Ha ha, so many of you are so misinformed. Granted SD and CF cards have limited write cycles, but if you do your homework and set Windows 7 up properly, a CF card will last longer then a week or even a month. Some people are reporting using their CF cards for over a year or longer. Windows 7 even comes with special software to extend the life of flash based memory, this includes SD, CF and SSD.
heh, i got a laptop on criagslist without harddrive or caddy. while waiting for the caddy to put my harddrive in, i installed linux mint 11 lxde onto a an 8 gig flashdirve. i have to believe this is a faster alternative than what i done as a temp. fix. i would not use either as a permanent option. though i believe there is no reason not to do this if you can get around page filing and things that write to the card very much. assuming you don't expect to much from the cf card.
2. edit your software 90% of this we did not need to see so cut it out
3. Compact flash cards are not designed for the level of data transfer that an operating system requires!!!! YOUR DRIVE WILL STOP WORKING
finally here is the deal with ram, your motherboard is only designed to take so much so check your specs before getting iRAM or you are just wasting money
You shouldn't install an OS on a CF card. CF is an old technology, and isn't always reliable. A more affordable, and slightly more reliable option is to use SD cards or SDHC.
Firstly, get some editing software. Even Windows Movie Maker will do it. Hell, your video camera will do it.
Second, CF cards are not made to be written to as much as an operating system will. Your card will die in under a month. There is a reason companies charge so much for SSD drives.
you can BUT you have to to disable disk write caching otherwise the write cycles on the CF will be used up fast. Nowadays the newest CFs have enough to last you about 5 years.
You are right that a CF card won't last as long as a standard HD, but it should last longer then a month. you’ll want to turn off virtual memory so it doesn’t create a paging file on the cards.
There's a limit to read and write functions to cards, but that limit isn't standard or written in stone, you can get more or less depending on what you are doing with it. By limiting the read/write functions of windows you can easily increase the life of your SD or CF card exponentially.
If you go with Transcend CF cards they have a life time warranty, when the CF card dies, you can just get a new one and Windows 7 only takes about 20 mins to back up.
CF's have roughly 10,000 number of write cycles, but some people are reporting using their CF as a HD for a year or longer without any problems.

mistake SSD s are designed for faster speed and more reads and writes
then a sd meaning that ya it will work faster then some HHDs but it will last a week to maybe a month before going to a dead stop or just dying out

Sim, até 4 Gb é financeiramente compensador, no entanto com estes adaptadores transferência de dados não é rápida.

your best off using an old 1 or 2 Gb CF as additional virtual ram.
