Yes Unfortunately money is wasted on far worsse stuff. I was refering to christians, and their use of money. In America its now typical that most large churches have a gymnasium and a work out center in them. I mean c'mon that a little too much. They should stop building unnecesary commodities and start supporting missions. Missionaries are scraping to get enough money to meet their basic needs, while money is being mismanaged in churches up here.
@TheBarcan You do realize that most churches are not 80 million dollars, right? And most Churches DO give a lot of money and have people working in 3rd world countries. But thanks for the input.
i am you are "Him". Nobody should eat an 8 dollar hot dog (or any animals homone-infested anus and testicles, for that matter) so few others can enjoy excess {and in some cases more hormones(steroids)}. If we do, the joke is on us. Every(partofthe)one should sow our own wheat...but i guess we need water to do that. Looks like we got some work to do.
The Israelites in the Old Testament thought that God was too big for one religion and they ended up in slavery to Babylon. Their temple was destroyed and their city was in ruin. God is very clear in His commandments about Who He is and what He expects of us. There is only one truth to believe. Christ's death and resurrection!!
I think that is the point. What are each of us going to do? We as Americans have the opportunity to feed, clothe, and house the world, but we don't. If every American were to send ONE DOLLAR to an underpriveleged country, in one decade there would be no more starving, suffering people. The average NATIONAL income is $5,000 a year. Anything above that is considered rich. 2/3 of the world lives on about $2 a day. 25,000 people die daily from bad water.
I think that is the point. What are we going to do about it? We have the opportunity to change the world. Instead we focus on self instead of others. If every American were to contribute $1, in a decade there would not be one single starving person or a person without a home or a person without medication. It would be that simple.
You all miss the point. A God who loves and cares about all of His creation cannot suffer the actions of His destructive children. All will be punished who don't show His kind of love toward our fellow people. We are an abundant nation and that's the problem. We could save the world and we don't. God is justified in making a hell. Yet His grace and love is shown in His Son Jesus Christ who can save us from hell.
I was pretty interested at the beginning when describing the data but when he said "god's children" that sorta made me cringe. You look like a smart and nice guy. You don't need to use god as an argument against people spending that much money on makeup. C'mon the numbers and facts stand for itself. that's a shitload of money to be spending on makeup.
arent' you pleased that folks throwing around the "God talk" are also talking social action and social change? Would you prefer the buzz cut Repugnican "screw the poor" paradigm? This guys light years ahead of THAT mentality--give credit where credit is due!!
i do give him that credit but i believe that a great argument (unrelated to religion) is better than an okay argument (related to religion). Look at the situation we are in right now. Wars over religion. If we just accepted each other's religion. Got rid of the differences (excluding one religion over the other) we would get some shit done. He's pretty much associated his religion with great facts and if he wants other people to relate just leave it at the facts.
The reason Christians choose to relate everything to God and His ONLY religion is because we are genuinley concerned about the fact that most people are going to hell because they don't know God! Or because they believe that He can be found by any other means than following His commandments. Whether the world hates us or not we chose to love everyone and try to show them the truth!
What if some1 honestly doesn't believe in God. Religions try 2 convert ppls just like u're doing, 2 "save us" Religion takes it upon themselves to control ppls that believe differently. I'm saying, we don't need saving, we need acceptance. thats y we're having so many damn wars. Ppls trying to change each other. Just let us be. BTW(if the bible was true)We're going to hell, only a few billionth person are let into heaven. So, Mother Theresa & the pope. We might as well go down w/ some fun.
A true Christian doesn't try to convert. A true Christian presents the truth to the lost because we genuinley care. A real Christian wouldn't participate in any war against another "religion". Defense would be our only motive for war. Christians are supposed to be pacifists. The main reason that people don't want to believe in God is because He is perfect and wants us to live up to His standard not ours. He wants everyone in heaven with Him, not a choice few. We make that decision!!
To understand Christ and the truth of Him, people need to be exposed to Him. The Church in general has ruined it's reputation and what Jesus had started. Jesus never started a religion. The religion you see now is a system of man-made beliefs. The same as all major religions. Jesus started something else. If people would return to the true worship of Jesus more people would believe. He actually started a peaceful revolution. The same needs to happen again!
i honestly can't argue with someone who can't think logically. It's like arguing with someone who truly believes that 1+2=5 and no matter what they'll still believe it.
My intentions are never to argue! If you try to argue logic about spiritual things, you completely misunderstand the things of the spirit. God and His things are much higher than logic. To speak of God "logically" is to bring Him down to our level. That is impossible. The reason Christians the world over are dying and suffering from persecution willingly is because Jesus Christ is real and true Christians have a relationship with Him. Not just a system of beliefs.
I also present Christ to you logically! A believer and non believer both have a 50/50 chance of being right. If I am right then I get to go to Heaven and be with our Creator. If I am wrong, I have been a good person and have caused no one any reason to hate me. I die a good man. If you are right, you have died and become compost. You have won nothing. If you are wrong, you have an eternity of suffering in a lake of fire.
this guys video was not to meant to be a debate on christianity. he's showing america of its frugal living. children are dying all over the world due to diarrhea, measles, and respiratory infections. they could be saved by 1) oral re-hydration therapy for the diarrhea, 2) $5 injections for the measles and 3) $0.50 antibiotics for respiratory problems. if only we'd start to prefer the people around us once in a while. i give this film 2 thumbs up.
No, we're not God's children. The notion of a caring God is ridiculous. Organized religion is the most destructive force on the planet. Aside from this fellow's pathetic delusions, he seems like a great guy. Read "The Ancestor's Tale" and play ball!
i hope this guy gets hit in the face with a baseball while doing a video....then he can spend 25,000 dollars on surgery instead of giving a kid with malaria the money so the kid can have live the rest of his life without having to do a damn thing....sounds like the makings of another video
Why are we trying so hard to rid the devil from this place if God GAVE the earth to the devil along with a portion of his angels? Aren't we technically trespassing on the devil's playground? Hmmmmm.....Christianity....it's a puzzler.
Do you believe that somone who creates something monstrous and evil is in turn evil themselves? Cuz, here's the question I will never understand the many answers to.....If God is good and the devil is bad, then why did God create the devil and allow him the chance to tempt us into unrighteousness?
I think if we left them alone they'd figure out how to farm and create their way through life like the rest of the world has instead of feeding off the hands of the gullible. Feed a bum once and you did a good deed.....feed him again and helping create laziness or sloth which is one of the deadly sins.....i guess what i'm trying to say is that helping someone is fine but not if you're gonna cause them sin.
So is God teaching us a lesson about hot dogs and baseball by allowing many to die from malaria? Should we give them all our money so they can continue to live in misery?
While the video's message is a powerful the logic of is extremely flawed. Regardless of how much money is given to poor nations billions of dollars in funds are continually misused or swindled away. You don't fix the problems of the world by throwing money at them, you fix the problems of the world by providing the proper infrastructure for these nations to sustain themselves... and until the corrupt are no-longer in power, the 8 dollars you send them will do little or nothing to enact change.
You're right. We can't just send money. However, there are groups that create the necessary infrastructure (for example, Living Waters International who provides pumps for clean wells in villages worldwide). These groups need money. That's the spirit of the message here. It's not that we should say "oh these countries will waste it" and do nothing. It's that our money can be so much better spent.
When you put it in that context everything we do could be "better spent." We could live better lives by not working meaningless jobs and simply going overseas to spread the word but that isn't what God always wants us to do. You can't be ashamed of living the life that God has laid out for you; don't feel bad for being blessed. With that said it shouldn't always be the responsibility of others to lift up these poor nations, at some point they should lift themselves up, enact their own change.
How do we know that that isn't what God wants us to do? Matt. 28 seems to suggest otherwise.
As for the rest, it's a very American and capitalistic mindset. "If they would stop being lazy or savage, then they could be just like us and improve their world." Well... that would be nice, except we should consider how their situation is imposed by nations of that very mindset and by nations that could easily solve the problem.
God doesn't put his works into motion to only benefit those not fortunate enough to be born in the US. Guilt tripping people about spending 8 dollars on a hot dog is the wrong message in my opinion. There are plenty of people right around your corner that need help and by help I don't mean money. When you give poor people money they tend to waste it, to enact true change you must lift up not hand out. Teaching people to sustain for themselves is the only way to truly change anything.
The best thing Americans can do to help change these lands is not to throw money or spend a week on a mission trip, it is to educate. Again, the concept of dollars is brought up in the film and that is the entirely wrong way to look at the problem. With the proper infrastructure in place an area can go from third world to bustling economy in one generation or less. When you throw money at a problem corruption will follow; see the aftermath of the 2005 Tsunami and hurricane Katrina for details.
So many international aide groups continue to fail miserably because they figure throwing money at the problems will solve all the issues and Christian aide groups are no different. For a look at what truly helps a nation read up on the works of the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. They choose to create entire infrastructures in these poor areas and not to throw money at them; they know the only real chance these areas have are teaching the children of today the right things to do for tomorrow.
You're right. We shouldn't put cash in a Hallmark card and just send it over. But how do things like wells and schools get built? Money. Chris does not advocate just handing money over to people. But good use of our money to solve what is solveable.
And as you said earlier, Chris would also agree that our help is not just for those overseas but to everyone. To be like Christ then is to be selfless and giving to all.
At some point the people you are trying to help must want to change, yet a good majority doesn't want to change; they are too busy fighting over what little power there is. Most of the homeless in America choose to sleep on the streets, obviously there are the helpless and the ill that truly need us but we can't confuse those with the ones who want to live in poverty or chaos. While the video has good intentions I just think it is going to rub more people the wrong way, especially non-believers.
If non-believers are going to be annoyed because we are helping someone who needs help, well... then I'll take that loss. I think I remember something Jesus said... something about well people not needing doctors I think... Furthermore, most in Africa are in poverty as a result of direct action from external sources. Remember? Imperialism? Just go watch Hotel Rwanda... result of Belgian imperialists.
Well said, pastor. I used to have a poor opinion of Christians, but videos like this tend to shatter this view of them I had. Thanks for an eye opener.
Again, this is not about the US helping other countries. It's about Christians helping people who need it. We should help them simply because of the fact that their 'leaders' don't seem to care. But of course we should also help them because most people in other countries don't seem to care.
please, find the part of the video where it says "ITS AMERICANS PROBLEM THAT OUR GOVERNMENT ISNT CORRUPT SO WE HAVE TO GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO HELP ANOTHER GOVERNMENTS PEOPLE WHEN ITS NOT OUR BUSINESS?" i havnt found that part yet.
Ah... but therein lies the problem. Christians shouldn't put any faith in the government or declare them to have responsibility. This is something that people should do for other people, regardless of borders. Now, if you say that you are better off because you are American, then that's another issue altogether.
thats retarded honestly. we should live our lives. help who needs our help when we can give it to them. to list stupid numbers and say "well if everyone in america donated their baseball game money to some stupid african then we are all good chrstians. A, Not everyone is a Christian. B, no one cares about some fucking african. C, refer to B and see that you prostrating pontificating MFers are the only people who give enough of a shit to do something about it. NOT. OUR. PROBLEM.
while I appreciate your alliteration, I have to be dismayed by your Amero-centrism. I'm not convinced that the people in this country should use their situation as an excuse to thumb their noses at those starving elsewhere or orphaned by AIDS. To do so, just goes to show just how truly warped our values have become.
You've clearly missed the point of the message. It isn't that we should subject ourselves to poverty, but how can we truly be decadent in the face of easily preventable sufferings?
If we consume, but never produce, then we all become financially and spiritually obese.
Another thing to consider... the average water bottle in America costs a dollar. This lasts what? A few minutes? That same dollar, put to a clean pumping well in a struggling village, will provide clean water to an individual for a whole year
flawed logic. in essence youre saying we give up our lives for the sake of others. Is it so bad that Father A who works 45 hours a week and barely gets to see his own children takes them out in his only free time to see a ball game and gets an 8 dollar hotdog? Would you rather him tell his kids "sorry Johnny, im sending this 8 dollars to cambodia"? Changing the world doesnt begin at Youtube, it starts in the white house, so write your congressman because this is falling on deaf ears.
I disagree, truth05. Any government is incapable of enacting change if the people are willing to support the status quo. We, even I, continue to unwillingly support the consumerism that Chris wants us to back off from.
So specifically regarding the hypothetical hotdog... I think it is so bad that this happens. If I eat a meal while a child starves, I am guilty of murder. And my consumerist and capitalist foundation teaches me how to sleep better at night and thank God that he blesses America and not the poor in Africa. Oh how arrogant it is for us to think that God loves us more and use that to justify any inaction.
Wait a minute. Are you saying the White House should be feeding the world? What are we supposed to write our Congressman about? World water shortages? What exactly are we supposed to tell our government to do? Empty words "truth05". Empty words. This video is fantastic and you shot at it because you're afraid.

Well said, pastor. I used to have a poor opinion of Christians, but videos like this tend to shatter this view of them I had. Thanks for an eye opener.

Rock on.

Again, this is not about the US helping other countries. It's about Christians helping people who need it. We should help them simply because of the fact that their 'leaders' don't seem to care. But of course we should also help them because most people in other countries don't seem to care.

please, find the part of the video where it says "ITS AMERICANS PROBLEM THAT OUR GOVERNMENT ISNT CORRUPT SO WE HAVE TO GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO HELP ANOTHER GOVERNMENTS PEOPLE WHEN ITS NOT OUR BUSINESS?" i havnt found that part yet.
truth05 4 years ago
Ah... but therein lies the problem.

Changing the world doesnt begin at Youtube, it starts in the white house, so write your congressman because this is falling on deaf ears.
truth05 4 years ago
I disagree, truth05. Any government is incapable of enacting change if the people are willing to support the status quo. We, even I, continue to unwillingly support the consumerism that Chris wants us to back off from.
houstonthewise 4 years ago
So specifically regarding the hypothetical hotdog... I think it is so bad that this happens. If I eat a meal while a child starves, I am guilty of murder. And my consumerist and capitalist foundation teaches me how to sleep better at night and thank God that he blesses America and not the poor in Africa. Oh how arrogant it is for us to think that God loves us more and use that to justify any inaction.
houstonthewise 4 years ago
Wait a minute. Are you saying the White House should be feeding the world? What are we supposed to write our Congressman about? World water shortages? What exactly are we supposed to tell our government to do? Empty words "truth05". Empty words. This video is fantastic and you shot at it because you're afraid.
