@LurellePiano Because its beauty is an austere and transcendent from that requires concentration and a certain gentleness of mind, a hesitancy to project strongly, to fully understand. For me the playful half-tones of KQ strain the conventions of harmony just as the genuinely alien behavior of the birds contrasts strongly with our recognition of their agency and their bonding, contrasted against a majestic, vast, and hostile space. I recommend Boards of Canada to you...
spaceseeker - good eye :) i think its a dodo bird, yes? dodos dont do their own nesting but plant their eggs in unsuspecting wren nests when the parents are out-n-about foraging for food. then the dodo chick hatches quicker, and proceeds to hoist the wren eggs out of the nest so the dumb parents end up feeding it instead. nature's a bitch, eh
No, spaceseeker means a cuckoo you dodo. Dodos have been extinct since the 17th Century. They also weighed about 40 lbs and were flightless, so hanging out in nests wasn't exactly their bag. Back to your ornithology 101 text! ;)
Ouch - quick check on wikipedia confirms scubjay93. dodos are indeed extinct and many cockoos are indeed 'brood parasites'.. thanks for contributing to my continued education :)
@mead2000 this is one of the oddest discussions i have ever seen on youtube, why would anyone ever correct someone so assuredly about something so ridiculous?
The cuckoo is programmed for murder before it can even see.
I am inclined to think human society is better than a state of nature; at least there are times and places where weakness is not death and we have at least the potential to restrain base impulses.
I remember this film. I had it from the DVD renter. I got it just on the moment my father came out of the hospital, after a perfect eye operation. He watched it with a smile on his face.
Video come from a French movie called "le peuple migrateur" by Jaques Perrin, who made "Microcosmos" and "Himalaya", two movies with incredibles images i recommend.
For the video presented, great association the music of Kronos Quartet and this images.
This is a wonderful piece of film, but try it with the sound down and play Von from the Hvarf CD to accompany it. Try it, it works! No disrespect to the Kronos quartet or the maker of this video intended.
I am a hardcore Sigur Ros fan, and I am really, really impressed with this. You didn't change the feel of the original but still managed to make it so very much your own. Lovely clip, too. Amazing job.
They may not play it like Sigur Ros, but they add as much as they take away from the song. It's hauntingly beautiful, triumphant. Thanks for the video.
kronos quartet are amazing - they keep popping up in the coolest places. check out soundtracks for pi and requiem for a dream (both darren aronofsky films)and others. saw them live in calgary perform with inuit throat singer - bloody osm!
does anyone know where this recording can be found? I mean what album is it on? Did the Kronos Quartet cover a full set of Sigur Ros music or what? cos that was real nice
NICE, try to watch my VIDEOS, click my name and watch the video entititled (Travelling:is it danger?) its about danger in travelling and pls leave comments!! thanks!! to all...
traveling within the seasons, expressions under the atmosphere, angels of nature flying in the skies, while we humans are doing daily bases in our own world, many worlds in each individual.
I took my father to a Kronos show in Seattle earlier this year, and this piece was played. Thrilled to see it in the program, but then to hear this version...one of the memories I will continue to indulge in when sentiment lays me out. Great night.
Great stuff. I like how they play it a little "dirty". The trained classical tone would not have worked on this piece. I have listened to Kronos for the last 15 yrs-fantastic ensemble!. (As is Sigur Ros!) Kronos play mostly contemporary classical (experimental) music.
this is one of my fav sigur songs aswel, really well done if u ask me, is this the band that sigur are always raving about on their pages? if so, where can i get some of this for free, or even online?
alrite fair does, but cant seem to find em in hmv and not exactly an internet shopper, bought all of sigur ros' albums from hmv so bit pissed off these guys arent there
è impressionante..il violoncello risuona come la voce di Jonsi Birgisson. Un trapasso emozionale...i sigur ros sono la piu grande rivoluzione musicale dei nostri tempi. onore ai KronosQuartet

"Sleepy little birds of a feather,
At the nests flock together;
In tiny branches hide from sight,
Good night!

The swan flies over the waterway
So in the reeds can stay.
May the angels be on your doorstep,
Sweet sleep! "Mihai Eminescu-Sleepy little birds
