It's kinda shallow to assume Asashoryu were disliked for his nationality. Most of the sumo wrestlers in last half century has been non-Japanese and they did not recieved such critisism. I know you guys look down on Japanese morals but if athlete from combat sports were to fight ordinary person, we consider him as a jerk.

I was a bit flabbergasted to hear the news. However I now have another thought since Asasyouryu was a Yokozuna, He should've disciplined himself. And the stable master is the one who take care of all the sumo wrestlers including Yokozunas. If Takasago master had faced Asasyouryu more strictly, Asasyouryu could have become a real Yokozuna. But instead he quit due to his actions. I think the his oyakata should have trained him better.

mmm, interesting. For me being a Japanese sumo fan, Ashashoryu's nationality / race / upbringing is not an issue. Yokozuna (the highest rank sumo wrestlers) are expected to have both physical strength and noble character, as a role model who has reached to the goal after hardships. This pretty much says that Yokozuna shall have dignity, discipline or that sort, and they shall be aware of such expectation from people.
