Favorite song off of this album. Was walking around the music store when I saw this album. I thought ``Why not``, needless to say it was my best purchase of 2010.
I don't even like this song. But I still listen to it. Why? Because there's something refreshing about getting something like this for free after listening to the same old stuff being played over and over again on the radio.
Don't get it why there are people who days DT is all God and this is simple. Listen individually man. Sfogli and Guillory are one of the best in the industry.
me and my boyfriend really loves DT.. when we first heard this song on sony walkman we thought it sounded like DT and the singer sounded like DT's vocalist... until i checked it earlier and found out it was really DT's vocalist, James... we really love this song! :))
FUCK I love this album. Its the most epic thing Ive ever heard. It is right up there with Metropolis prt 2, Other than that I think its better than any other dream album.
Thanks James I needed this song right now!!! Reminds me of someone very special to me.... Thanks for uploading this album also I have EoP but have'nt seen this one yet
Comparing this to DT is useless. They are two different monsters. Labrie's solo album is just plain catchy and beautiful, but DT is an all-star team of some of the greatest players on Earth. The music of DT is increasingly more complex and versatile than James' music, but James' tunes are candy for the mind. I love them both, but they are too different to compare.
@zooyorkkid85 Screaming yes, ofc it can hurt your throat, but growling on the otherhand is a technique and if developed and maintained as good as a "normal" singing technique its not damaging for your vocalchords at all. I know growlers that have been doing it for 20 years and still have the same range and power in their voices as before they started!
Although I like Dream Theater's music better than this, I still support James Labrie. If you are a true Labrie fan, you will support him whether his music isn't your taste or not, since he has to see something in it to be doing it. I hope Dream Theater stays around though, they are still the best!
This is by far the best song on the album for me! But unlike most of the people think I guess the lyrics are less about someone you have a love interest in but finding a person that you can appreciate in every way or something like a soulmate. Yeah I know it's about a chick and some lines suggest it's a about love and all but that doesn't prevent it from being about an intense friendship. And that's the great thing about music and lyrics, it can be interpreted in so many ways =)
Marco Minnemann (if he's actually joining DT) will handle the drumming duties with no problem whatsoever. The question is how will the band fare in the songwriting arena with his loss? As for this album- it's wonderful.
@08Revelator I'm talking about the Dream Theater discussion below. You just have to go back a page or two in the comments. Again, LaBries new album is wonderful.
Anyone else think the lyric 'I'll admit that she's a bit odd / no centrefold or a great bod / What's up with all that hype / Stick chicks, bulimic, ain't my type,' is a) lyrically a bit below his usual standard, and b) a really weird thing to say? I mean, this song is basically a heavy rock love ballad, in which normally the woman being talked about is painted as perfect in every way. So, to introduce a realistic portrait of her is both hilarious and odd: you're plain looking, but I like you!
@Maecenas22 I agree with you, it's in fact a hilarious piece of lyrics. I think, going away from the usual, "you're perfect, I love you so much" type of lyrics is a very good thing and adds another dimension to a song. As to the quality of how he expresses himself, I kind of agree with you, he is not being very poetic, but maybe he didn't intend to. I think it makes it sound even more honest the way he expresses it.
1. James LaBrie didn't write these songs. Matt Gullory (keyboards) did.
2. The screams add depth, a feeling of anger/anguish, and a completely new dynamic to prog rock/metal that LaBrie has yet to ever experiment with. Peter Wildoer did a great job...just GET USED TO IT.
2. The only thing the screams add is a generic mainstream sound that requires no tallent to produce. And I'm glad Labrie hasn't touched this "new dynamic" because his talents were put to far better use with DT.
another reason why the new drummer for dream theater needs to be peter wildoer bc hes a great writer also..he can do lots for dream theater if people would think about
A lot of his lyrics are amazing. Listen to "Disappear" and "Vacant". "Vacant" is about his daughter Chloe who fell into a coma and the doctors couldn't explain why. "Slightly Out Of Reach" and the lyrics he contributed to "Octavarium" (the song!) are also amazing.

@hyde78chan I can tell you... it will sound like crap... they committed career suicide by letting Portnoy walk. LaBrie is a awesome vocalist and i do like his solo stuff however he is no Portnoy! DT will sound just like LaBrie's solo stuff and how much fun is that?
@KemmiiS Well, I disagree with you. People on YT are talking as IF MP is responsible for everything that DT writes. You have to remember that MP does a lot but he cannot write the parts that JP, JR, and JM plays. He may have done more individually but it's DT, not MP Band. JP also writes lyrics as well as the JL. It will definitely be different on the next album and looking forward for the Change. It's too early to predict things for a 25+year old band.
@hyde78chan I NEVER said MP wrote it all but he had more control to saddle JL. My brother in law is Kevin (First keyboardist) cousin and they were all brats back in the day... we are older then DT members. MP did a lot as does JP... JL is a cocky little thing and he will have more free reins. JL is a great musician and tremendous vocalist i don't deny that fact but it will be a huge difference with MP gone because its not just the drumming its the tech end as well that will change.
@KemmiiS Yeah, I've been a fan since '94. And to be quite honest with you, I would've love DT more if Kevin Moore comes back. It's not about the chops, it's the Music. I guess the guys are aware of what they are going to lose when they agreed on the breakup and therefore will figure out a new way of handling things from now on. A lot has happened before, Derek Sherinian, Kevin Moore, Charlie Dominici, etc. The changes were quite obvious but of course MP is different. Still optimistic though.
@hyde78chan I... well my sister was around BEFORE they got together and Kevin was a brat... used to practice in the garage on Long Island. I was a professional drummer for 25 years and know how it can be when a crucial person is no longer there. I never met anyone in DT but my sis talked about them all the time but like i said she referred to them as brats LOL!!! She is NOT a DT fan but i am... they will go on but it will be different.
@KemmiiS Well, I guess they are described back then as brats but actually, they have totally different personalities. I attended a Bass clinic once by John Myung, He is kind of very reserved and quiet. Totally different from JP and MP. But somehow he is still in the band. I haven't heard anything bad about JL before, except that I read somewhere that he and MP have conflicts at times.
@hyde78chan They were described as brats because they weren't even full blown DT. Kevin and i forget which one of the founding fathers were playing together and they were high school kids and they were bratty high school kids HAHA!!! JL & MP does have tension... but JL has a cocky attitude much like most front men. I played drums and had problems with a front man and sometimes the lead guitarist.
@KemmiiS I'm a guitarist and have been surrounded by Orchestra and Jazz band instrumentalists as well as Rock and Pop Musicians. I know what you mean with Cocky front men/women as I had my share of experiences with them too. I find myself always in good terms for most of the time with drummers than Vocalists. I had several bands wherein I'm much like MP in the band, beyond my musical duties I do contact some people and do some arrangements for the Horn Section, etc.
@hyde78chan I think at birth when the doc smacks someone on the butt is when God decides this will be an awesome singer... here's the attitude!! Its a prerequisite for a vocalist. I got along with the bassist & when he died i left the band after 10 years. I did the Symphony Orchestra & Pit Crews since 9th grade... i was a closet nerd hahaha. I stopped doing the Symphony Orchestra about 25 years ago when i left the Knoxville, TN Symphony... i lost interest.
@KemmiiS I received classical training but The intention is not to become a classical Musician. In the end, I didn't finish it because I lost drive. But more than the experience of playing with an Orchestra or Jazz Band type ensemble, I played in a Classical Guitar ensemble. But overall, I want to play in band playing this kind of songs. little bit technical yet beautiful.
@hyde78chan Music has been like breathing for me since i was 3. Started with piano, then 6 & 12 string guitars, bass, Hammond B3 organ, keys, drums, ALL percussion all before 6th grade. I just picked it up never had to work at it. Won everything to win in Louisiana in drums/percussion.. full scholarship to LSU refused it and set out to be a star... ended up playing OMG i hate to even say it... Country PUKE!!! I didn't listen to my own stuff because i was into Heavy Rock.
@KemmiiS Well, I played in a Pop cover band before too, playing music by Usher and the likes. But to me they were great experiences though. It somewhat helped my playing. Now I feel confident playing with anyone (except for Jazz Players) because of my past experiences.
@hyde78chan Oh gosh Pop well lets see is that worse than Country hmmmm about equal i guess since i am talking old school Grand Ole Opry drumming. I should have stayed in Calif instead of moving to Tennessee haha! I did a lot of studio stuff.. i was popular for 2 reasons #1 female #2 i was very diversified and was adding a touch of rock to country long before country rock was in style.. i was playing country before it was cool haha! At 13 i played in a Chicago cover band in Ohio.
@KemmiiS Well, I really don't regret anything. Let's just say that even though in my Heart I'm a Rock/Metal guy, I really learned a lot playing something else and in turn made into a more versatile musician. But yeah I guess as far as American Country is concerned... no Comment! Haha.
@hyde78chan Being diversified is a good thing... makes you more valuable & that is called job security no matter how you look at it!! People think i am nuts for saying this but its true... Country is harder to play because its the most boring crap to play so staying on your toes and holding time is not as easy... however i was known for timing that could compete with a metronome. What they play now i refer to as CountryPop (all one word) there is no Country anymore.
@hyde78chan My son is the drummer in a band signed to Warner and gets along with everyone pretty much... one of the guys is annoying as hell but my son gets along with him.
@hyde78chan I can tell you what it will sound like.... crap!! DT committed career suicide when they let Portnoy walk. I like LaBrie he is a awesome vocalist and one of my favorites but he is no Portnoy. DT will sound just like LaBrie's solo stuff and how much fun is that?
@KemmiiS You know, reading this comment, and now that I've listened to ADToE, it really magnifies that you can't predict these things. ADToE turned out being their best album since 6DoIT
@RRioGio I still am not crazy about LaBrie's solo album in this thread however now that Dream Theater has put out their new album I can't say I hate it... its pretty damn good! I miss Portnoy and the influences he brought to the band as well as his style of playing but the new album is damn good even with its new feel to it I have listened to it many times.
@hyde78chan they only have to write 7 songs, if they're continuing they're song cycle, but who knows, Jordan, Myung or even the new drummer could get involved in the lyric process, or even better they can make an instrumental
@MitchMcMetal I previously didn't know that JL can write like this so I was really surprised. It will be great if Thomas Lang can fill in as the new Drummer. He not only plays the drums, he also writes a lot of stuff because he can play the bass and the piano. I'm pretty sure they can write as much songs as time allows, we're not talking about amateurs here. If they can write there own solo materials, they definitely can do a lot as a band. I think there won't be any problems, just changes.
@hyde78chan yer true, change is good, but of course, the DT fanbase is gonna be divided by those who either accept or reject the fact MP's no longer at the skins, so I'm hoping the guys use the skills they were blessed with musically and bring out something that rivals with Scenes or Images (if possible) or else they're gonna be hated, it's inevitable
@MitchMcMetal Well, after KM left DT the band's sound totally transformed, I would love to have KM back. So to make them sound as they were in the 90s might be far off. If fans love they're current albums with Rudess, why will the fans hate them for not technically outdoing themselves? Honestly, there are a lot of drummers that can equally match Portnoy if not better. I will buy there next album as long has it has Good songs, even if it's not technical in nature.
@hyde78chan yer true, Kevin was a great keyboardist, well, still is. He has the emotion and great lyrics but Jordan's got killer technique and skill, I'll definitely buy the next album, I'm just worried DT will use this oppurtinity in the wrong way and try replace Mike's sound, rather than get a drummer that will benefit being with these great musicians and add something special to their sound
@MitchMcMetal There is no doubt that JR is the most technical player DT ever had. But since I'm a DT fan since '94, the DT in my veins are the Images and Words and Awake sound. A Change of seasons is pretty close since KM was still part of DT when it was written. I don't know, more than being technical, I like Kevin's parts, very complimentary to the song. If there is one albumn I'd love to hate, it will be FII. I hope they get a Drummer that can nail MP's parts and bring is something new too.
@hyde78chan yer, dont get me wrong, I like falling into infinity alot, but for a DT album its weak, but if it were a modern day alt rock band it would shine alot better than it does. Yet, the odds were against DT during the FII stage, loss of Kevin, label problems, producer problems, James voicing being destroyed, but they still delivered
@MitchMcMetal I own the album which means I don't hate it to death. But to line up everything that Dream Theater has done, it will be on the bottom of the list. I agree, it was weak. The songwriting is totally different. "Scenes..." is good rebound though thank God.I don't know, it's just that KM really sounds great to me even if JR is a lot more skilled. To me his sound is very nostalgic compared to DS and JR.
@LOLERSKATEZZZ if you actually had life experience and sadness in your life youd relate to them more and have Real understanding for his passion your probably just a little mindless Kid not every lyrics has to be some Complex maze to be amazing...James has written so many Amazing songs sometimes basic can be beautiful to because it can bring back vivid memories and experiences that explain in depth what he stated with such simplicity...I dont know kids like you just dont get it.
Lolerskatez is obviously a troll, but he does have a point. I think LaBrie's songs written for DT are a lot better than these. It's just that you don't always need metaphoric or deep lyrics to express emotion.
John Petrucci does most of the song writing for DT anyway.
@LOLERSKATEZZZ his name is actually kevin labrie. he used his middle name to avoid confusion with kevin moore when the band started. and he writes beautiful music and lyrics and you should be shot in the dick for saying he sucks in any way.

KemmiiS 1 year ago
@KemmiiS Well, I guess they are described back then as brats but actually, they have totally different personalities. I attended a Bass clinic once by John Myung, He is kind of very reserved and quiet. Totally different from JP and MP. But somehow he is still in the band. I haven't heard anything bad about JL before, except that I read somewhere that he and MP have conflicts at times.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan They were described as brats because they weren't even full blown DT. Kevin and i forget which one of the founding fathers were playing together and they were high school kids and they were bratty high school kids HAHA!!! JL & MP does have tension... but JL has a cocky attitude much like most front men. I played drums and had problems with a front man and sometimes the lead guitarist.
KemmiiS 1 year ago

KemmiiS 1 year ago
@KemmiiS I received classical training but The intention is not to become a classical Musician. In the end, I didn't finish it because I lost drive. But more than the experience of playing with an Orchestra or Jazz Band type ensemble, I played in a Classical Guitar ensemble. But overall, I want to play in band playing this kind of songs. little bit technical yet beautiful.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan Music has been like breathing for me since i was 3. Started with piano, then 6 & 12 string guitars, bass, Hammond B3 organ, keys, drums, ALL percussion all before 6th grade. I just picked it up never had to work at it. Won everything to win in Louisiana in drums/percussion.. full scholarship to LSU refused it and set out to be a star... ended up playing OMG i hate to even say it... Country PUKE!!! I didn't listen to my own stuff because i was into Heavy Rock.
KemmiiS 1 year ago
@KemmiiS Well, I played in a Pop cover band before too, playing music by Usher and the likes. But to me they were great experiences though. It somewhat helped my playing. Now I feel confident playing with anyone (except for Jazz Players) because of my past experiences.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan Oh gosh Pop well lets see is that worse than Country hmmmm about equal i guess since i am talking old school Grand Ole Opry drumming. I should have stayed in Calif instead of moving to Tennessee haha! I did a lot of studio stuff.. i was popular for 2 reasons #1 female #2 i was very diversified and was adding a touch of rock to country long before country rock was in style.. i was playing country before it was cool haha! At 13 i played in a Chicago cover band in Ohio.
KemmiiS 1 year ago
@KemmiiS Well, I really don't regret anything. Let's just say that even though in my Heart I'm a Rock/Metal guy, I really learned a lot playing something else and in turn made into a more versatile musician. But yeah I guess as far as American Country is concerned... no Comment! Haha.
hyde78chan 1 year ago

KemmiiS 1 year ago
@KemmiiS You know, reading this comment, and now that I've listened to ADToE, it really magnifies that you can't predict these things. ADToE turned out being their best album since 6DoIT
RRioGio 5 months ago
@RRioGio I still am not crazy about LaBrie's solo album in this thread however now that Dream Theater has put out their new album I can't say I hate it... its pretty damn good! I miss Portnoy and the influences he brought to the band as well as his style of playing but the new album is damn good even with its new feel to it I have listened to it many times.
KemmiiS 5 months ago
@hyde78chan they only have to write 7 songs, if they're continuing they're song cycle, but who knows, Jordan, Myung or even the new drummer could get involved in the lyric process, or even better they can make an instrumental
MitchMcMetal 1 year ago
@MitchMcMetal I previously didn't know that JL can write like this so I was really surprised. It will be great if Thomas Lang can fill in as the new Drummer. He not only plays the drums, he also writes a lot of stuff because he can play the bass and the piano. I'm pretty sure they can write as much songs as time allows, we're not talking about amateurs here. If they can write there own solo materials, they definitely can do a lot as a band. I think there won't be any problems, just changes.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan yer true, change is good, but of course, the DT fanbase is gonna be divided by those who either accept or reject the fact MP's no longer at the skins, so I'm hoping the guys use the skills they were blessed with musically and bring out something that rivals with Scenes or Images (if possible) or else they're gonna be hated, it's inevitable
MitchMcMetal 1 year ago
@MitchMcMetal Well, after KM left DT the band's sound totally transformed, I would love to have KM back. So to make them sound as they were in the 90s might be far off. If fans love they're current albums with Rudess, why will the fans hate them for not technically outdoing themselves? Honestly, there are a lot of drummers that can equally match Portnoy if not better. I will buy there next album as long has it has Good songs, even if it's not technical in nature.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan yer true, Kevin was a great keyboardist, well, still is. He has the emotion and great lyrics but Jordan's got killer technique and skill, I'll definitely buy the next album, I'm just worried DT will use this oppurtinity in the wrong way and try replace Mike's sound, rather than get a drummer that will benefit being with these great musicians and add something special to their sound
MitchMcMetal 1 year ago
@MitchMcMetal There is no doubt that JR is the most technical player DT ever had. But since I'm a DT fan since '94, the DT in my veins are the Images and Words and Awake sound. A Change of seasons is pretty close since KM was still part of DT when it was written. I don't know, more than being technical, I like Kevin's parts, very complimentary to the song. If there is one albumn I'd love to hate, it will be FII. I hope they get a Drummer that can nail MP's parts and bring is something new too.
hyde78chan 1 year ago
@hyde78chan yer, dont get me wrong, I like falling into infinity alot, but for a DT album its weak, but if it were a modern day alt rock band it would shine alot better than it does. Yet, the odds were against DT during the FII stage, loss of Kevin, label problems, producer problems, James voicing being destroyed, but they still delivered
MitchMcMetal 1 year ago

@MyMytalMajesty definitely a possibility for him with Mike Portnoy gone.

Lolerskatez is obviously a troll, but he does have a point. I think LaBrie's songs written for DT are a lot better than these. It's just that you don't always need metaphoric or deep lyrics to express emotion.
John Petrucci does most of the song writing for DT anyway.

to say james lABRIES LYRICS ARE SIMPLE IS like saying that James labrie has no emotion when he has tons your a dumb ignorant fool
HeartOfMetalx11 1 year ago
@LOLERSKATEZZZ his name is actually kevin labrie. he used his middle name to avoid confusion with kevin moore when the band started. and he writes beautiful music and lyrics and you should be shot in the dick for saying he sucks in any way.
