im 15 and i was diagnosed with underactive thyroid december 2010. i didn't actually notice any of these symptoms, i just thought it was myself. i noticed a big lump in my neck and began to get worried. but after reading and researching the symptoms to an underactive thyroid, i realised that it was actually what i had. i am on 50 micrograms a day and have my tablet each morning. i find it hard to know i have this for the rest of my life... not great but atleast the weight hasnt been put on yet!
Im 17 years of age and recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, all thanks to myself. Take my advice from my experience - sometimes you just have to take your health into your own hands because from what Ive experienced the GP's are no help at all! Especially when it comes to hypothyroidism.
can anyone give me advice. I'm 16 years old, I had anorexia when I was 14 but that was only for 6 months. For a few though I have cut down on food. But I've been feeling tired, unable to concentrate, anxious, sad, low, and I've stayed the same weight I was when I was massively over-eating even though I excercise and eat healthily. I'm also sensitive to hot and cold, if it's warm, I'll feel like i'm boiling and I sweat/feel faint. And if it's cold, I'm freezing. Is this underactive thyroid?
My thyroid issue is main source of all my other issues. I have been having weight problems since I was 9 years old. I hated being fat. I have probably never been on a diet over 1500 calories a day. When I was 10 I ate half of what the other kids weight and was still double their weight. When they finally diagnosed me I was 20lbs underweight with virtually no metoblism. my thyroid issue has ruined my relationship with food forever.
reading about GPs not that helpful, I know what you mean, they stick you on meds with very little explanation about the illness or what can be done to improve it. Lets face it, they say, you have under active thyroid take these and come back in 6wks, Ok, whats this? this is new to me, then if you ask they explain what it is. Briefly though. So you leave with little knowledge of it. And end up having to find out yourself really thru others and sites.
I was diagnosed with under active thyroid about 2 month ago, swollen ankles, over weight, also have PCOS along with hypertension to. Doc put me on 25mcg for 6 months. I do more exericse to try and get weight down, I do get tired a lot as well
The Thyroid deserves Special Attion. but there more at work here then a shortage if Iodine. (Insulin, Thyroxin, and Adrenaline to Regulate the entire Metabolism.) The Big one is ENZYME INHIBITORS including Food additves, Like MSG, Artifcial Flavoors, Agriculture Poisons in our Food, The list is endless. Table Salt to Food Cosmetics. EVen our drinking water Even some Bottle Water. 99% of all CAN food are BAD for people with this problem. Because of the High SALT, HIDDEN MSG and more!
