BTW, since you mentioned it, I recently procured the LD box set of Star Trek 'The Animated Series' on laserdisc and I must say that it is a pretty sweet box. Glad I do not have to get it again on DVD. Thanks again!
Thank you for doing all of these BIG sets of material. I appreciate it more than you know! Your videos let me know how far I have to go to procure all the animated shows I loved from my childhood. Keep on kicking ass, Zaranyzerak!
I'm happy to report I've managed to get the entire He-Man series. They were really cheap as well. I now own episodes from my top 4 80's cartoons. G I joe complete series, Ghostbusters complete series & TMNT are the other three. I'm still waiting for TMNT season 9 and 10 to be out on DVD. When is that going to happen?
@DKrules9 No word yet. Since Nickelodeon bought the entire TMNT franchise a few months ago, there hasn't been a peep about future DVD releases. Hope it doesn't get stuck in DVD release limbo like the 2003 series was...
@Zaranyzerak That's weird, Wikipedia says that even though Nick bought the rights to TMNT from Mirage Studios, Mirage Studios does not own the rights of the 1987 television series, so Lionsgate, Fred Wolf, nor CBS are under no obligation to inform them of future releases. Nick expresse[s] intrest in acquiring the broadcast rights to the 1987 series. Though, I don't know if Wikipedia is accurate.
@DKrules9 If that is indeed the case, then I guess it's just a coincidence of timing. The only thing for certain at this point is there hasn't been any announcement of the final 2 seasons (or the missing 3 episodes) yet. I REALLY hope it doesn't get cut short so close to being finished...
@Zaranyzerak I was actually at WonderCon a while back and Liongate had a table. I actually tried asking them about it, but that was useless. The person representing Lionsgate didn't know they released the old TMNT show.
@Zaranyzerak I was actually at WonderCon a while back and Liongate had a table. I actually tried asking them about it, but that was useless. The person representing Lionsgate didn't know they released the old TMNT show. Do you plan on doingan indepth review of He-Man? Or did you already do one?
Is it possible for any of these shows, like He-Man to be re-released, since they were so successful? I understand it was acquired by Boomerang Media? Also, I heard that the pilot episode of He-Man is actually cut due to the master tapes being damaged.
@DKrules9 Neither of them have been released on DVD. BCI released everything they were able to get the rights to. Several Filmation shows are owned by other studios. The Gilligan cartoons, like Star Trek, are both owned by Paramount. So if they are ever released, it's their call.
Great overview, but I wish you had pointed out how wonderful the D+D animated series boxset is. In anyone else's hands I'm sure it would have gotten a marginal set release, but BCI really put a lot of love into it and it's a must watch in my book.
OH-Wal Mart as ST: TAS for $15.00 in most stores if you or anyone else are looking for it cheaper than their orginal $30.00+ asking price.
I did a full review about the D+D set a while ago - watch?v=8uaMJ6U4eDc
It's definitely one of my favorites of the BCI Sets, and I said quite a bit about it in the review. The series has been re-released since BCI went under, by Mill Creek. Sadly, it's a barebones release and all the wonderful extras and packaging of the BCI version aren't there.
No word yet... I know a lot of fans are dying for that one because it will contain "No Mutant is An Island," which is supposed to be watched right after the first Phoenix Saga...
Too bad. The UK releases are a bit more acurate, speaking of which, HMV has just released She-Ra volume 1 on DVD as an exclusive set of theirs, except the extras, but the episodes are present.
At this point i would say "You should get a girlfriend" , but you ruined the joke by having a wife xD xD xD just kidding , awesome collection. 5 Stars
The original series ran for two seasons, 65 episodes each. New Adventures was one 65 episode season. The 2002 series was 2 seasons - 1 of 26 episodes, then 13 for the last season.
The original series is 4 Volumes total, labeled as "Season 1 - VOL 1," Season 1 VOL 2," etc. New Adventures is just labeled as Volume 1 and Volume 2 and clearly says "New Adventures of He-Man", the 2002 series is slimmer packaging and is labelled as Volume numbers as well (3 volumes total). The art style is radically different for all 3 version as well, so that's also a giveaway. You can also read the fine print on the boxes for the original copyright dates, also a dead giveaway.
yeah Jem is missing the last set to complete the show idk if there gonna re release the whole thing again or what. would be nice if they put the last season of Jem i think Rosie would like it it had good messages for children and the songs were catchy to.
I wish I'd had the money to track some of those down....I have Ghostbusters and most of the MOTU related stuff except for She-Ra: S2 and The New Adventures of He-Man: V1. Those and Bravestarr are at the top of my list.
The jewel of my collection is the limited edition Comicon variant of the Best of She-Ra that was limited to 1000 copies-mine is #54. It has different cover art and a pair of unnumbered art cards that were exclusive to this set.
Cool, been a VERY long time since I watched it (although I did find a torrent of the entire series recently). What would REALLY help is if they would get off their arses and put it out on DVD already...
I'd love to get Jem (and many of the other shows Sunbow made), but I'm not paying those prices for Rhino's incomplete set. I'm holding out for a properly done re-release of that one.
Not my thing..... But I really respect that collection.. I know it must have taken a lot of determination to complete.. I love the way the boxsets come together with the larger picture... Brilliant..

i have a copy of he-man and the masters of the universe volume 1 on UMD for my psp bad news is it wont work for my psp because my psp is an american model and the disk is region 2 (UK)
Nice! That one seems to be fairly easy to find, and often quite cheap. Not as popular as the original and 2002 shows. Which is a shame, because taken on its own NA is actually a pretty darn good show! Love the characterization of Skeletor in that one. Such a coniving bastard, with some great lines.
I seem to remember that Genius Products recently re-released the Fat Albert holiday specials but they had yet to put out any boxed sets. That company also put out the The Archie Show and Sabrina by Filmation on DVD, since they're now owned by Entertainment Rights sibling company, Classic Media.
So did Zoro and the Lone Ranger go on adventures together in that cartoon?
Wow! So Sabrina the teen aged witch from the 90's was a remake of the 60's version?
I'm not sure if you'll get through watching all those DVD's. I think your going to replace a lot of them on Blue-Ray before you get to watch them on DVD. ^_^
Wow, those filmation guys really had a lot of work.
Nope, Lone Ranger and Zorro were individual shows that didn't crossover, they were just part of the same "Adventure Hour" type of show along with Tarzan.
Yeah, Filmation had a pretty steady flow of shows from their start in 1966 (with the New Adventures of Superman) right through to their last show in 1987 (Bravestarr). 22 years, and close to 50 different shows! Their stuff seemed to be everywhere when I was growing up, I watched a LOT of these as a kid. :)
Do you remember a movie that was siliarily themed to Ark II and even had those same jet packs? I saw it at the theatre but cannot remember the title:(
The only movie I can think of that had similar jet-packs was Thunderball (one of the early James Bond movies). But it was nothing like Ark II, so it was probably something else you saw...
