Love his teasing!! I agree; GOD what it took her not even a day and shes flirting with another man. "I'm in love with the best man in the whole world." YEAH right!! Doesn't look like it!!
You can tell while watching this narrative how Austen was compelled to create Elizabth & Darcy. When you look at the Tilney's it becomes very clear that the elder brother creates a far more interesting point of conflict than the younger one, given his pride & rudeness and we can see how the concept of a ignorant & prejudiced heroine is being hinted at here. Darcy & Elizabeth had to be given birth!
Goodness one wrong move and her nips would've been on display! lmao What a skank! Nothing against Carey Mulligan though, she played the part very well. lol
I've never seen that deleted scene before--I think it says a lot about Isabella's character, that she knows perfectly well what her brother is ("he'll say anything that comes into his head") and yet she's still pushing Catherine to marry him.
And the actor who plays Captain Tilney is so perfect. The way he sort of waggles his head when he's pleased with himself cracks me up every time I see it.
"I refused him for as possibly long as I could." I timed it. Four seconds until the next dance started. lol The Captain must have walked up to her and asked and she accepted. Yeah, she was forced! lol She's glad that the Captain is interested and that's it. James can go hang if she can attract the heir of Northanger. / Also fun that Cath reads Henry's looks so well. These two are decent people. Henry knows his brother. Cath is an innocent. Henry admits his jealousy. :)
@AVBKansas Yes! It's a kick that she gets him so immediately. And she also get what Henry is implying immediately so how come she doesn't get the Thorpes? Well, she's starting to now. I like it that Henry doesn't come right out and condemn Mr. Thorpe. I don't think Catherine realizes how much she trusts Henry. She can tell he's safe. Excellent actor who plays the Captain. I hate him all over the place! lol Seriously, it must have been powerful to be a young, rich man with "prospects."
This is one of my favorite Jane Austen books!! i am currently reading Udolpho-- it's quite an undertaking!! JJ fields (Mr. Tileny) is in a newish japanese vampire movie...verrry attractive in it to boot!
I do think I could have gotten into this a little more if they had used an older actress for Catherine. She's sweet, but I can't take 15-year-old romance very seriously.
i'm a bit confused on where i am in the film. i feel that part 8 to part 9 there is a big jump. it goes from her being in carriage after the ball to her getting kicked out of her friends house. so confused
@chesykin97 well compare it to 'posh' balls etc. nowadays: the men all wear suits, all very similar, while the women wear a wide range of colours and styles etc.
to be fair, at the time, all the women were wearing very similar dresses to dances, so :)
and might I add that I always love how catherine is dressed throughout? the costumes in general are lovely.
yea yea yea... "i'm in love with the best man in the whole world" whatever.. isabella.. the next thing i know you'll be having an affair with captain tilney.. bahaha..
@geevitha Yep. Is it just me or did you notice that Isabella seems to pick up her feet and hurry back to her line rather quickly? And good actors that can get the timing so right. Isabella ducks and the Captain smirks, all within a couple of seconds. lol Isabella has a lie ready, just like her brother. It's an art form with them./ Henry must have felt ackward when his father put's C's hand into his. The general thinks he's being so clever. Had Henry not liked Catherine. .
Hi, emilyshiel. I immediately found part 9 in the "Related Videos" section, on the right hand side of my YT screen. Hope and trust you can find the same.
I think that is part of jane austen film code: All villainesses must have a low cleavage. ( I probably spelled villainesses wrong so somebody please correct me).
Jane Austen wrote in the early 19th century - Taylor would have been going for a Shakespearian look, which was of the late 16th, early 17th century. Although, based on the lyrics of that song, I can't think that she paid much attention to particulars.
Oh i dont know, you had very handsome men back then that would fit in very handsome today, John Constable, Arthur Wellesley and William de lancey to name a few.
This is the first time that i have ever had the chance that i have ever watch any of Jane Austen books go come to the screen and I must that they really good. i thought that there was none as good as P&P which is my favorite of them all. I particularly like P&P 1995 version better.
The music from the beginning of this part was used in P&P. It's funny recognising the dance music of the time in different adaptations :) LIke Mr Beveridge's Maggot was in Emma as well as P&P, though the version in P&P was much nicer.
i agree but i think music is reused in these different movies is because they only found a number of 'songs ' i geuss u can call them from this time period im not sure but a theory.
Well, I did find a CD of popular English dance music from that period, and several of the ones from these adaptations are on there, but there were many more pieces besides them on the CD too, so I don't think it's because it's hard to find original tunes from that period. I assume the ones that turn up in these adaptations turn up repeatedly because they're the most well-known ones.
Isabella reminds me of my friend..well ex-friend. One time she dated a guy that she hated. I told her well then why don't you break up with him? She said i'll wait till after Valentines Day, I want to see what I'll get. -.- ugh!
I don't know why, but unlike with the other characters, I imagined Capt. Tilney a lot different (while with the other characters it was the complete opposite!)
I imagined him with a black and a little longer hair, taller, and with green eyes..
is this an extended version? i got this movie out of the library but it was missing some of the scenes i saw here. i was disapointed. could someone help me?
Anyone notice that the music during Henry and Catherine's dance is the same as the music from one of the dance scenes in BBC's 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice?? Haha I've clearly watched P and P too many times...
they do that a lot one of the songs in th 95 P and P is the same as the one in emma, with gwyneth paltrow, the scene where she and mr knightley are dancing
so funny when captain tilney says "charmed" in that bored voice! oh man i love this movie! and i love the book! it's my favorite out of all of austen's novels.
Love his teasing!! I agree; GOD what it took her not even a day and shes flirting with another man. "I'm in love with the best man in the whole world." YEAH right!! Doesn't look like it!!

Cinnamonstix, perhaps you saw the US version. They took some scenes out, including the 'most disturbing' ones about Catherine's daydreams.

Anyone notice that the music during Henry and Catherine's dance is the same as the music from one of the dance scenes in BBC's 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice?? Haha I've clearly watched P and P too many times...
