I highly doubt that The new drummer could even come close to come up with something like this....yes sure he could learn it....but to make a materpiece like this....no way!
TP is a beast, no doubt, but the beat on Eriatarka (especially the chorus) is absolute genius. It's both insanely technical and catchy as hell and I doubt I will hear anything better than this in my lifetime.
i'm shure he can get something more impresive and complex, he just needs to fit the smoking music TMV does,or TMV will replace the drummer...again XD, And hell yeah, this song is the crack on drums
would you mind a little explanation about what's a ghost note? I'm sorry but english isn't my natal language, and i'm not a drummer.. so it makes things harder... but since those Ghost notes are seen everywhere when it comes to de-loused, i'dd kill to know... sorry :(
Ghost note? .. best way to explain is to tell you to look at the video. Look at his left hand. especially during the chorus. you see the stick in his left hand doing an after roll after his main strong hit? that's basically what a ghost note is. a hit that you can barely hear but you know it's there. it's almost like a ghost note on a guitar. you know it's there but you can barely hear it. it's a really good effect on drums. but just keep on eye in his left hand the ghost notes stick out alot.
he's a student guys, you have to learn some technique or you can sound like a soulful piece of shit. heart and balls are great, but they are nothing without brains
I meant I have never seen anyone else play it that good other than Jon Theodore himself. It's funny how forgetting one word can totally change the meaning of a sentence.
hell yes man! if you did this well in 07, i bet you're really rocking now

Jon Theodore WAS the Mars Volta.
funkdrum5 3 years ago 2
give Pridgen 5 years and you'll be glad Theodore left the Volta.
He's just a kid up to now, give him a chance.
I know Theodore is a fucking god but still Pridgen can make up some tight things, and you'll see he'll get way better with time...

you should do your Thomas Pridgen research and prove yourself wrong, because you are.

TP needs to learn dynamics

He is a badass but this is true. I don't think he's nearly as tasteful a player as Theodore was. he does have some ridiculous chops though.

agree. btw i never noticed how intense the drums are for this song Nice job man!

@Defect8 That wasnt actually Thomas Pridgen it was Jon Theodore, their drummer before TP. Look him up if you don't know him; he's amazing

@gooberwestern No shit =D I was comparing how TP's got nothin when it comes to written parts like Eria Tarka.

its a drag, a ghost note is like a solid hit used to fill in empty spaces within rhythms and a lot more quiet than a normal hit

Look at 3:22 and 5:36. He's got all the soul in the world.
Seriously though, soul takes second place to playing right, especially when your playing to a recording.

He's got soul because he's shaking his head from one side to another.
