  • is that daves custom 914ce or just a 914ce?

  • Great fucking cover.

  • dmbalmanac has all the different openings for two step

  • where could I find the opening lyrics? can't seem to find them online anywhere since dmb changes them everytime but I like this version

  • @gvonderau i think its from listener supported, or i heard it somewhere at a show or made some of it up as i went along, i actually dont remember...I think its from Listener supported

  • @whobludaphot thanks! I found the lyrics.

  • @whobludaphot yeah the real lyrics are - so we're leaving Friends of mine brothers and sisters Hoping that in times of trouble And that we can lean a bit more But lately i swear nightmare dreams are welling in me And this ship is troubled all because this ship we're on is sinking

  • A cover doesn't have to be sung exactly as the original singer. Look at how Dave covers Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower." Everyone has his or her style. Your version has a soothing sound to it.

  • best cover on youtube... by far

  • Hey I had a quick question that hopefully you, or someone else here can answer for me. I have never owned an amp for any of my acoustics. I was curious what you use for one? And is the "Dave sound" something that you can get out of any decent amp without spending a ton of money? The ideal sound for me s the studio version of so much to say on the crash album. Thanks man and great job on all the vids

  • @bwatteful Im just using a tube pre amp into my board.....No acoustic amp

  • @bwatteful The "Dave" sound comes from a sloppy mixture of half palm muting and half not, which based on the style of playing Dave uses I'm sure he started off doing by accident and now it's just muscle memory. You'll notice he doesn't do it on Big Whiskey.

  • I think I know what MDon04 is talking about....I guess MDon04 think you're a bit off with respect to how Dave sings the song in the Radio City version with Tim Reynolds

MDon04....who gives a flying fuck ?!? If you're going to criticize then you do a better job....it's called a COVER for a reason

  • @obscurusvita lol, a lot of people forget that...lol well said

  • Wow, i cant believe how good this is!! I can tell that you're very passionate about this. If i could offer some constructive criticism though, try not to look so queer. It's good, you just look like such a dick when you play

  • How does this only have 26K views?

  • Beautiful cover. Doesn't this song make you wish you had separate brains and like...four pairs of arms so you could play all the parts at once?

You did a great job for one brain and two hands though. =P

  • if you don't mind me asking, what lyrics are you using?

  • youre a chad

  • Are you strumming the intro down down up down down up?

  • very good job

  • awesome.

  • i freakin want a taylor 914ce and a Martin DM3MD

  • They are nice guitars!! But I'd rather have his playing and singing skills than both of those guitars. This gent could play this on a piece of junk and it would sound amazing.

  • TEACH US!!!

  • sounds amazing! what kind of strings are you using?

  • its most likely his taylor thats making it sound that good hahah

  • ur verse would make dave jealous.

  • if you are referring to the opening verse, Dave wrote it. It's a popular older version of this song.

  • Watch "Listener Supported" DVD, the intro is from there.

  • this is ridiculous, amazing

  • you rock thou sock!

  • MDon04 i get what you're saying. Dave kinda just sings to no particular beat. Just sings it with real heart disregarding the music. It's tough to explain but if you watch dave live he just gets very into it and doesn't attach a certain chord to a word

  • love this song! and you covered it perfectly! amazing job

  • I've watched pretty much every one of your dave covers and I haven't found anyone that covers him better. Great work.

  • Dave doesn't sing to the progression of chords like most people do. It's really hard to cover any of DMB's songs because of this. I think you hit it pretty close though

  • I get what MDon04 means. You dont always have to wait for the chord to sing. Get that down and you will be PERFECT. Great job.

  • you're really good, but your only problem is that you can't sing the words outside the beat of the song. you awkwardly string out the words to go along with the chords you're playing, which is not how dave sings it

  • dont really know what u are talking about but ok......

  • don't think i worded it well... don't worry about it, you're pretty sick man

  • i think he's saying you suck, and should quit... but MDon04 must not know talent when he sees it

  • @whobludaphot I think @Mdon04 is talking about the "To give to me just what I" part... It's not that you sound bad at all. It's just different from the way Dave does it. With that being said, you can sing it in however which way you would like to. This is a cover, after all lol. Keep it up man

  • i get what youre saying man

  • @MDon04 not only is that a good observation, but that's very true.

  • @MDon04 You couldn't be more wrong, haha.

  • Gaw i love this song. Its the most interesting to play dont you think? Another great cover.

  • Sorry laxattack260... "liberyfalls" is my brothers username.

  • singing=INCORRECT

  • Dave sings a lot of his songs with different lyrics often.

    YOU=INCORRECT.

  • yea daves lyrics change all the time there is even a interview where he says that wen he gets sick of lyrics he changes them....he also always forgets lyrics lol

  • Very true. I just listened to a 1994 version of Two Step from a concert in Virginia, and it was one of the best versions of the song I've ever heard. Not too much different from the CD recorded, but very, very cool parts.

  • you=dumb

  • your wicked, five stars

  • pick up the pace :)

  • I honestly think this is one of your better covers so far... by the way, is that a Dave Matthews signature series?? Same inlays, same everything down to the sparkle on the outer-edge of the body.

  • Taylor actually doesn't make a Dave Matthews signature series guitar. Its (roughly) the same model as he has though. Its the 914c with the cindy inlay. I think i've seen this guy post some other comments about this guitar - and i'm pretty sure this one is slightly upgraded from the model that Dave Matthews uses.

  • Yeah I guess I never really gave it much thought but I would have heard of a signature series by now if they had one. Not a cheap way to go...props. I just bought an Alvarez AF60CK Dao Acoustic-Electric... im really excited to see how nice or not it turns out to be.

  • I think that Martin is the only manufacturer with a Dave Matthews Signature Series model... There is nothing on Taylor's website to suggest otherwise. I have the Martin version, very, very smooth.

  • Sorry but I think this is your worst cover of all your DMB songs. I'm not saying it's bad at all, it's pretty damn good actually just I expected better from your other vids.

  • did you cover this song, if so lets compare. i know i haven't because its a hard song

  • dude probably aint got a piece in a bit

  • shhh dont tell my girlfriend that.....lol

  • is this a 914ce?

  • Hey all - I've started a group on Facebook as a place for musicians that like/play Dave's, and the band's music. A good place for like minds to gather and discuss... NOT JUST GUITARISTS!!! I don't care if you exclusively play the pennywhistle! Join us! Search "MTL_DMB" in Facebook's search bar.

  • My favorite DMB song, and you nailed it.

  • wow this is pretty good.if u could get a violin backtrack or bass,it'd be perfect

  • is that the same model taylor that daves plays, because as far as i can tell from this video...it is. but im not 100% sure. is it?

  • lmao washington your a fucking idiot! funny to read tho....sick ass vid btw 5 stars

  • Clean the Shit out of your ears kid.....Who ever said dave if from CA u moron?? keep off your mamas computer...stay in school kid u might learn something..jackass

  • agreed washington your fucking retarted....

  • You're a very talented person.

You kinda resemble him in a way,

  • You sound real good man! The guitar sound is almost exact! Do you run the guitar through a DC-30 too?? If you're gonna play Dave you might as well play the same guitar he does even down to the Cindy inlay. Great touch!

  • fucking great!

  • Good vox bro!

  • sick dude....you ever need someone to rip a few solos inbetween you let me know

    peace, love, blessings.

  • YOu are incredible buddy, it would be cool if you could get another guy to play the tim reynolds part! that be awesome!!!

  • Fabulous job!!!! Very enjoyable, great job!

  • You need a Tim Reynolds partner

  • Joe, you are really incredible.

What part of L.I. are you from? Where are you performing these days?

  • do you hook reverb up to almost all your songs vocals because it sounds great

  • dave matthews wrote it you fucking idiots

  • haha...didnt even see all this for anyone that must know i think Dave sang that intro in two step at Giants Stadium years ago, i was at the show, and for some reason always loved what he did, and yes it just started raining.....

  • who wrote it then?

  • Very good cover, but you guys need to remember he did not write this masterpiece

    :)

  • who wrote two step?

  • Dave Matthews DID write Two step.

  • your a dumbass

  • who do you think wrote if he didn't?

  • amazing. that's like dave m... only with an actual singing voice.

  • dave matthews has an incredible singing voice...

  • Dude....are you F'n kidding me? I have been listening to Dave forever and I have never heard anyone cover his stuff like this. No doubt, I would pay to see you play in a second.

WTF, man..... asbolutely the REAL DEAL!!!!

  • Check this dude out too... he is pretty spot on

    Go to the channel-ReinierMatthews

  • Did he change the lyrics of the song?

  • i'm sure i messed them up...lol

  • not at all, i like the beginning alot more then the original. Good stuff.

  • No he didn't change the lyrics, he used the intro that dave plays sometimes live. I heard these lyrics from ants marching. Apparently there was an amazing show where it was raining and a lightning storm was happening while he was singing those lyrics.

  • I'd really like to know what kind of fingering that is you are using for the Dm and C in the verse.

  • can i get a tab?

  • nice 900 dude. this is definitely the best cover i've heard online. dave would be impressed for sure.

  • Best channel for covers of Dave, easily.

  • definantly a fan do you use reverb on most of your songs and what do you have your mic hooked up to

  • DUDE!THAT WAS FRICKIN' AWESOME

  • You must like Balls.....pronouncing every word...u must be retarded....thats the best thing u can come up with....lets see what you can do...dont hate cause my 1 finger has more talent that you can ever have buddy.....but thanks for the time out to make a dumb ass comment....

  • funny its always the ones that have no videos up with the BIG MOUTHS...lol

  • Haha, how true... Great cover by the way!

  • that intro sounds like the one from listner supported

not bad man, get wwys up there

  • You're the one that sounds like a total jackass. This guys is awesome! I'd pay to see this guy play anyday. Who cares about the pronouncing of the words, the bottom line is, it sounds great! More videos please!

  • dude ur amazing ive watched just about every dave cover youve made keep on makin more

  • hey man great job that was really good keep it up

  • that was sick man. i loved the listener supported intro

  • Holy shit, that was awesome! You even have the same receding hairline as Dave!

  • Haha, I agree on the awesome part, but I'm sure he's not too proud of the receding hairline part. Though if he's like me, he probably wouldn't really care. Most guys do though for whatever reason. In any case... great cover!

  • Funny thing is I dont care, and i've had the same hairline since I was a kid...lol Big forehead to fit my big brain...lol

  • one of the best that i've seen....dave would be proud.

  • Holy shit man! That was incredible! I love this song and i've never heard anyone but Dave do it better. I love your original stuff too..if you came out with an album i'd be all over it! Keep it up!

  • i like ur stuff. you change it up from the originals but you don't stray too far and butcher it like some people do. you do any original stuff?

  • Fantastic... but... there no matter how good you are, there will always be critics. You should learn to take it more gracefully.

  • u are 100% right.....Its just its always the ones that cant back it up, no videos, nothing, they are the kid in class shouting out the wrong answers and the teacher has to put them in the corner...lol

  • VERY GOOD!

  • very well done man..i like your spin...fuck missing chords..whats the point of covering a song and making it exactly like the real thing?

im with you man. keep it comin

  • Thanks man.....always get one knit picker, esp when he has no videos up...lol I thought the guy had a "how to " video to play two step...lol

  • People seem to forget that Dave himself changes the songs up fairly often. Yet, they don't bash him. Why knit-pick a great cover when the original artist sometimes does terribly? Always a fan of your work, Joe! Keep it up!

  • Thanks, and yes he never plays a song the same twice, people just like to put their 2 cents in all the time...lol

  • Even though most of them barely have a penny.

  • fairly often?

Hahaha how about all the time, tahts why hes one of my favorite artists/band.

  • im a chord cheater too. rock on

  • Decent voice, but you're missing a chord in the verse! When you go to "my" on the Say my love part, you need to get off that D minor chord and to a Bb, that leads into the C on love..and strum harder, its a two step.

  • Hey thanks for pointing out i'm missing ONE chord....glad you enjoyed it...I'll beat the crap out of my guitar next time I play it

  • Your vids are sick bro, such a good guitar collection. I love when people beek your vids, losers!!lol I wish i could find it but some guy left a comment on a John Mayer vid telling the guy he trys too hard to sound like JM, when it was him lol! I thought it was from live pre from Tower records in 01 but can't find it. Cheers

  • Yeah the big mouths are always the ones that dont even have a single video up to back anything up.....so who cares, they were the kid in the back of class yelling out the answers if they knew them, cause it made them feel better..lol

  • nice, badass taylor 914, wish i had that kinda money...

    good job though

  • Love the Listener Supported intro. Very good.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Another great one man...I am learning alot from watching you play these songs...way better than any tabs I can find. Thanks, Mike

  • Read that your from Long Island, You got any gigs set up?? Love to come check it out.

  • fuck man....you murdered that song......(in a good way)

  • thanks man good stuff

  • very nice! what kind of guitar you playing?

  • Absolutely Dave !!!! ;o)

Thanks for sharing your awesome talent ...

    Take care, Fab

  • You are the shit...

    5/5 man.

  • amazing... ull be hearing from me soon man

  • it was cool, I really loved the intro to two step on "the best of what's around", disc two the live one...I guess it was raining at that show. and I love the peidmont park intro, it almost felt like a whole another song, I really love the lyrics, so clear and thought through, I hope it does into a song. ha anyway, keep it up dude.

  • was that intro your own or did you copy dave a little( I know the riff is dave's, I mean the lyrics) it was so cool! dude you have yet to let us down...thanks for all your hard work, and for sharing it with us for free...I would pay to see you in concert, I'd kill to see a band backing you up to...

  • Thanks,it is from one of his live shows I have no clue which, he does a intro always in this song live, I think the first part is from 1 show and the second from another...lol

  • Nice Job

  • Dude that was fucking awesome....No one on here comes close to doing Daves songs as good as you...even the tribute bands I have seen couldnt hold a candle to your stuff

  • could you do crash into me... i would love to hear yours because every one of your covers does DMB justice!

  • Wow you are really really freakin talented
