  • The more I look at Sally Hawkins in this, the prettier I think she is... although, as everyone has said: HER HAIR! IT'S AWFUL!

  • Mr. Elliot isn't ugly at first until he opens his mouth and you see all his crooked teeth revealing a crooked person. He looks like a wolf about to bite you!

  • ann's sister reminds me of olive oyl from popeye

  • LOL, Elizabeth's face when Mr. Elliot kissed ANNE's hand was priceless serves her right for treating her like a maid instead of a sister!!

  • ahhh the same old Uther back again...:D

  • @MerlinandJesusrock ohh thank you! i kept looking at him and i was like i know that man! i just couldnt figure out who he was. haha i sat there staring at him for lik 10 min trying to remember what he was from. i feel kind of stupid now that i realize who it is since merlin is one of my fav shows!

  • @MerlinandJesusrock Aha! I knew I recognized him from somewhere!

  • damn that hat! it does absolutely nothing for her!

  • @misskennedyxo neither do her "bangs"

  • @shopppguril haha yes that too

  • Anne reminds me of an intelligent version of Harriet from Emma.

  • Anne is so sweet and considerate. I see why everybody likes her.

  • GURL MR. ELLIOT IS MACKIN THE SHIT OUTTA ANNE ASS.....LOL!!!

  • Anne seemed to be the only normal one in her dreadful family

  • I hope I get my own captain wentworth when I'm older ;(

  • @JasmineRAWWR Right there with you. I want one too. :'(

  • my gosh! her awful family are just selfish and greedy. her stupid Dad has money and still harriet walks around in those ugly outfits.

  • Her father is so dramatic!

  • "now, i am not matchmaker" no shit lady you advised her to reject wentworth in the first place!

  • 0:58-1:30...OMG too real :((

  • Elizabeth's face expression reminds me of the "OMG cat" xD

  • He cant even afford to live in his own house and he's looking down at people?

  • I'm pretty sure men don't talk so effusively about their feelings with one another like Wentworth and his boy were on the wharf o_0

  • I think I prefer Captain Harville to Wentworth.

  • Why is he after Anne and not Elizabeth when he could get her easier and his evil master plan would be complete!? Capt. Wentworth and Anne are just adorable together. :)

  • @littlebutterflii Because while he may be "evil" plan, he is also smart. If he were to marry Elizabeth he would be bored to tears. He actually does like Anne, aka. Anne is more interesting and smart while Elizabeth is superficial (like her dad) and dumb.

  • @juicyXD Well said. :)

  • I'M FRREEEEE!!!!!:) hehehe yeaaaaaa

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL Austen deserves to have her name spelled right.

  • GAH. her father is SUCH an odious man. and with that i say Anthony Head is a fantastic actor.

  • Why did she cry when she received the letter from her brother??

  • @lovehim4ever11

it's from her brother in law. she thinks that louisa is marrying wentworth.

  • @lovehim4ever11 Because he was hinting that Louisa is engaged and she thought it meant Captain Wentworth was engaged to her.

  • @lovehim4ever11 she cried because she thought louisa was marrying wentworth afterall wentworth n ann were lovers once

  • Ann shows where her heart is, she shows her caring heart towards others.

  • that lady with the nurse is named Harriet smith? like in Emma??

  • I AM A FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BBC Merlin fans ... I spy Anthony Head (: Uther as a frustratingly arrogant English gentleman.

  • @sierracademianut isn't he quite the same in Merlin though? he kinda likes playing those roles doesn't he? naughty boy! (though didn't you see a resemblance between wentworth and arthur? he looks like his cousin!)

  • @bbcseriesfan I know! Anthony Head is quite good at being annoying and arrogant. Stubborn guy. I wonder if he's like that in real life. :P Haha. Probably not.

I don't really see Wentworth and Arthur being related. Sorry! But they are both good-looking. Their hair is similar, I suppose.

Who's your favorite character in Merlin? :)

  • @sierracademianut no, i know they are not related i just think they really look like each other, and not just because of the hair... ^^

my favourites are gwaine and merlin ex-aequo

  • @bbcseriesfan Haha, Gwaine - what a charmer! What do you mean Merlin ex-aequo? Merlin is my favorite character, too, although Arthur and Gwen are tied at second.

  • @sierracademianut it's latin, for "tied" but as a french speaker, sometimes i forget you don't use those words... :s sorry and yeah, merlin's everyone favourite, though i think arthur might be second tied with sir leon, i completely adore him! :)

  • @bbcseriesfan Haha, Sir Leon! He's all right, I'm glad he came back after Once and Future Queen - although isn't he just a minor character?

Yes, I admit it, Merlin is everyone's favorite - but for good reason! :)

I'm still not sure what you mean. "My favorites are Gwaine and Merlin ex-aequo?" Merlin tied? I'm sorry about my uselessness with Latin. We Americans don't receive the best education!

Are you looking forward to Season 4? :)

  • @sierracademianut I am definitely looking forward to it and for once in my life I hate Stephen Moffatt for cutting Dr Who in two parts...

I didn't mean it badly, it's just a fact that we Belgians use a lot of Latin as expressions... "Ex-aequo" means "tied" so Merlin and Gwaine are tied first...

And I know that Sir Leon is a minor character, but I can't help liking him... Hope in season 4 we see more of him...

And finally, of course Merlin's everyone favourite, he's the cuttest of them all!!

  • @bbcseriesfan Haha, I know, right? Can't wait to see more of the Round Table in action. (I'm sure Sir Leon will be in there somewhere!)

Belgium, huh? Sounds really cool. I had no idea they speak French there .. well, I guess I had some idea, but I wasn't sure.

Yep, Merlin is truthfully the best.

Do you ship Merthur or Brolin, by any chance? Do you know what that means?

  • @sierracademianut merthur of course!!! and i know what it means... we do that kind of shipping too here you know... :) not sure what brolin means though, explain it please... ^^

yes, we do speak french, or at least a cooler version of french... :p and dutch too in the north of the country, but that's rubbish (not that i don't like the people, just the language).

anyway, waiting for it with great impatience!!!

  • @sierracademianut what´s brolin? *merthur 4 evaaaa* xD seriously, never heard of brolin. lin would be for merlin i guess...who´s bro?

  • @Lilithly Brolin is Bradley and Colin. So it's them in real life.

  • @sierracademianut oh my xD i guess i´m just a merthur shipper then. the possibilites of that happening are higher cause us fan girls can annoy the scriptwriter muhahaaaaa ^^

  • @bbcseriesfan He does play an arse in Merlin

  • @sierracademianut He's upset because he isn't king anymore :D

  • 1. Elizabeth's face at 00:12 was a glorious moment.

    2. Anne's entire family makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

    3. I know the story, I know how it ends, but still my heart weeps for this poor girl!

  • Aw when he said she was perfect I almost cried…so sweet

  • 2:50-3:10 i.e mrs clay, then goodevening.

    Dang! U go girl!

  • anne's dad: "Anne. Anne! ANNE!!"

i: "oh, SHUT UP and GET LOST, man!"

good lord. her family's like all annoying austen-characters together!

  • y are they all being such a wbitch to her?!?!?!?!!!!!

  • i get that they put Anne in darker colors to kinda go along with her unhappiness etc, but I do wish she at least had a wider variety of clothes.

  • I LOVE EVRYTHING ABOUT THIS SCENE OF CPT.WENTWONRTH'S BEAUTIFUL SPEECH.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*SIGH*

  • it seems like it would be easy to be swept out the sea walking along the cobb if the wave is strong enough.

  • who are the two women with Ann,s dad?

  • I like how Mrs. Smith's dress is more beautiful than Anne's, but Anne is higher in class!

  • "Of Course! Who else?" didn't that make you smile?

  • Her dad just needs to shut up!

  • Anne's dad needs a kick to the groin. Screw that, it's MY dad who needs a kick to the groin. -_-

  • I am not watching this, someone else is but im writing down crap so it looks bad for her

  • I want to kick Anne's father.

  • finally there's a scene where Anna defends herself and her actions!

  • Were they just walking in circles?

  • @Shufflertx2step Oh yes, the Aristocratic family's loved to walk around hall's in Bath and London, especially during the season to see who was out and catch up on any disgraces or news of anything and everything of the day.

Miserable load of snobs they were as well.

  • Sally Hawkins went to my current school. I have her old history teacher this year, and she told us a story about Sally that in her mock GCSE, she got the worst history result in the whole of the school.... EVER! luckily she's a brilliant actress :D

  • Wouldn't that be weird, if Anne married Elliot, her last name would remain the same. Talk about strange.

  • "She is perfection itself." *sigh*

  • i love how when she cries she really cries. not just dainty sniffils!

  • I wonder how many times they got splashed by water

  • 'I am no match maker'... Oh, yeah

  • her ink finished again.

  • Giles is SUCH a bitch in this movie...

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded you should watch Merlin xD

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded Giles AKA Anthony Head; or on Buffy Anthony Stewart Head

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded

You should see him in "Repo: the genetic opera"

  • "Perhaps she's not the only poor widow in Bath with little to live on and no surname of dignity." Damn. I had to give her two snaps for that witty response to her father. She left him speechless and looking foolish. I love how sweet and loving she is but it was really nice to see that she can be fiery.

  • @NoelleHarmony Unfortunately in the book, she just thought this and didn't say it out loud. Her saying it to his face made me go, "Yay!"

  • @NoelleHarmony I love that line from this move!! GREAT BURN; towards him; he deserved it!!

  • Lol I love it at 6:16. Its easy for me,as a girl, to imagine talking about guys to another girl. But this scene really shows brotherly love and friendship, I like hearing their laughter. I also like that he can describe her so warmly and lovingly and yet it dosent make him seem less manly. Kinda get a glimpse of a "Guy conversation".

  • The strings in the background as she reads the letter are heartbreaking....

  • what a witch her sister is!

  • OK! my heart's weeping for her now.. T_T

  • I love the scene where Wentworth understands that he is free from Louisa :)

  • LOL Elizabeth's jealous of Anne, ha ha haha ha:D

  • 5:03-5:35

    finally he admits it, LOL

the way he described her... "she is perfection itself" (sigh)

too bad, these men only exist in great novels =)

  • @jscbrea07 Sure there are few men as great as those in Austen's canon, but you forget there are fewer women who deserve them! Its evolution, you know, anything that no longer helps a specie in procreation must gradually vanish.

  • @jscbrea07 I dont know too bad they only exist in novels, what would a woman do if they did exist in real life! They certainly wouldnt be as obtainable as your usual run of the mill male today, they would still be very choosy.

  • @FellowTownsman They exist in real life. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. I know of at least two.

  • that's what i like about Anne's character, she's so simple and she still manages to capture Capt. Wentworth's heart

  • I don't like Anne's clothing in this movie at all! Or her hair style gah

  • @unrox oh i agree!! her hair looks soo bad!!!

  • The truth is that there are plenty of guys out there who are willing to factor character over looks in a relationship. But women must be reasonable and acknowledge that this guy might not be tall, dark, and handsome.

  • @RavingDissension couuld he be a little teeny bity handsome though please? :D

  • @Hot87Cold

    If you insist...

  • @RavingDissension

    super.....can he be rich too?

  • Anne overall has a melancholy aura about her, y? For 1 she's the middle child and you know how it usually is with such children, 2nd she's 27 and unmarried which translates to modern day as a wrinkly old woman( with plenty cats) living next door who you always see in nightclothes, 3rd the man who she loves is so close yet so far and finally Anne seems to move around a lot and gets her hands dirty-can you blame the girl for not 'prettying up' (there's nothing to celebrate)

  • Hey you people putting up rude comments about the way Anne looks... She's not that bad. And if you don't like how this Anne looks, what did you think of the girl in the 1995 version? ;)

  • i understand Anne's not suppose to wear fancy attire on account of her character being what it is but SERIOUSLY they didn't have to put her is SUCH ugly clothes.

  • God knows I love a Jane Austen novel but in nearly all of them the central female character will have waited years for one man, he will return, show his instrest then five more men will appear all doing the same at the same time!

  • @jaz88pa well you know what they say....you wait ages for a bus and then three come at once!

  • I know!!! I also like it because of the whole Love Lost; Love Never Left!!!!

  • Whenever I read/watch Jane Austen's works I always have to think of the great tragedies she must have endured in order to write such heart-wrenching and real novels

  • @btsmj sure she herself was not allowed marry the man she loved and never married cuz she cudnt be with the man she loved!

  • lol, giles, can't get over him yelling like that =)

  • She's perfection itself :) Oh my! that line just makes me melt over, and over (sigh....)Oh Wentworth!, your perfection itself...

  • Why is there always some one giving the main character the wrong advice.

  • wentworth:" then i'm free??", after he learns of louisas engagment, LMAO :)

  • The look on her face when she thought it was Frederick

  • @ElectricTabs...thankyou thank you!!! =)

  • I LOVE the music, and wish there was a soundtrack!!!! Let me know if any of you find it!!

  • @NeedaKomboskini here is where you can download it dear :) freshwap.net/forums/music/60321-persuasion-2007-soundtrack-martin-phipps.html

  • Comment removed

  • Rupert PJ as Wenthworth is PERFECTION!!!

I love this adaptation, it's so well done and the music is amazing.

I looked for the soundtrack but it does not exist :(

  • @Tele007 yes it does, here freshwap.net/forums/music/60321-persuasion-2007-soundtrack-martin-phipps.html

  • @Tele007 i know it's terrible there's no soundtrack. the only album Martin Phipps actually has out is for The Virgin Queen

  • i just think it's so odd how benick falls for louisa

  • @macdahet, keep in mind that Louisa suffered a brain injury when she hit her head from that fall. Brain injuries can change a person's personality. It's possible that after her injury, Louisa was no longer the happy-go-lucky girl that we see at the beginning of the movie/novel but was more serious & reserved.

  • @4DECO1

no, i think it's odd because his hearts just been broken.

  • @macdahet By the look of it she helped heal Benwick.

  • How can jane austen create two such different Elizabeths!!!!!!!!!

  • shes perfection itself awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :)

  • Can Mr. Elliot's hat be anymore ridiculously tall?

  • Why must Ann always wear the same plain dress?!

  • Oh God. Two hot, soaking wet men hugging. WHY ARE THEIR CLOTHES STILL ON?! Why must they torture me so?!

  • It's interesting comparing this version with the 1995 version. On the whole I think the 1995 casting better reflected the book; but in this version I really like the music, and Anne's looking into the camera is effective (if a bit overdone). Rupert Penry-Jones is v. hot, the thundering Lyme sea fits so well, and all Anne's relatives are v. v. annoying... though every time I look at Lady Russell I think of the Borg queen! Despite this, I'd still recommend it to get people to read the book!

  • Ugh. Mr. Elliot's voice gets on my nerves! He should just take a long walk off a short pier! Anyone else agree??

  • @irishgirln1

    I agree

  • @irishgirln1

    Maybe, but would it be...Providential?

  • wait whys she crying?

  • @ohmyclumsyheart Because she thinks that Louisa married Captain Wentworth - so her one and only great love cannot marry Anne anymore which means that all her hope is gone.

  • @ohmyclumsyheart because she thinks it for certain that Wentworth will marry, not just speculation, and she cries because she still loves him.

  • Comment removed

  • I felt like crying when she read that letter. I don't get why people are freaked out over her looking at the camera. She is connecting with her audience

  • @sanitythroughmadness well, they're "freaked out" because that is not a technique typically used in stage or screen acting (it's called breaking the fourth wall, tearing down the boundary between actor and audience). It can become uncomfortable for audience members, although in this case it is being used as a tool to emphasize the idea that the audience is part of anne's diary, and is thus privy to her thoughts, emotions and yes, even her determined staring at the camera.

  • Do they seem impatient always with Ann or is it me?

  • @Maria6237 Yes, you're right! The movie tries to portray the way Anne was unkindly treated by her family and maybe somehow overlooked by everyone. It was Jane Austen's intention in the novel to show how a confirmed spinster was treated by the society. Jane Austin was a spinster herself.

  • why does the title keep popping up?

  • @watusernameshudiuse because this was a tv drama and the title comes up when the adverts were on they've just been edited out

  • are we supposed to like lady russel? or not?

  • @shega

I think she genuinely likes Anne a lot even love her and has her best interests at heart, but she is prone in the past of the story to making wrong decisions and also be persuded easily by others who are not interested in Annes happiness.

But in answer to your question, yes, her heart is in the right place.

  • @shega in fact lady russel might be thought a representative of jane austen herself, who derived inspiration for the novel from her own experiences of "persuading" her niece not to enter too hastily into an engagement.

  • @jzen1398 I've heard, actually, that Jane Austen herself was persuaded not to marry some dude or other (forget his name) by one of his relatives, who was a close friend of hers. In that case, Anne is more likely representative of Austen than Lady Russell is.

  • Anne's reaction to the "news" of Capt. Wentworth's engagement, is so well done, you feel like crying for her! Here she has been trying to detach her heart and act like she's okay with what she thinks is inevitable, but when it finally happens, her heart breaks. Awesome scene and I'm glad they included it in the movie!

  • @serenitybee20 Exactly. Sally Hawkin's (Anne) emotions are so transparent and true. Every action is perfect with her heartbreak. And when her emotions are overcoming that she flusters as she blows out the candle. I just love this version of Persuasion. Its spot on. I must read the book.

  • Seriously! The look at the camera is really freaking me out!

  • @admirallily lMAO...I KNOW RIGHT!!!!!

  • why is anne wearing the ugliest clothes?! everyone else is wearing better dresses!

  • @crazybrunette23 Yeah that bothers me too! It sounds shallow but I just hate her clothes.

  • I so love the pier scenes, where in God's name did they find such a beautiful beach.

  • Sally Hawkins is a fantastic actress. I can't think of anyone who could have played the role of Anne any better.

  • i dont like how Anne sometimes looks directly into the camera...freaks me out.

  • @o0xiahness0o IT'S FREAKING WIERD....it's like she's looking at u

  • what is her problem 0:30???

  • @jobabeeful It' jealousy towards Anne, the competition, I mean in her mind of course. Elizabeth saw that Mr. Elliot was interesting in Anne, but not her. She thought that she has a chance with since he lost his wife (she died). Seeing that Anne was alone, she thought Anne was with him. That's why she 's acting that way towards her sister. Anne is not interested in Mr. Elliot. I understand why she's not married yet, she is just like a father. hey are made for each other. LOL!!!!!!!!

  • Some people do annoying so well that I'm convinced if I met the actor/actress in real life, I would want nothing more than to poke his/her eyes out.

  • @Sarah921pep Hahaha, that is funny your comments. But you are right though. Lol!!!

  • @Sarah921pep lol

  • hahaha, Frederick is so happy that Louisa's married :P I'm free, I'm free!!!
