It's never like Illaiyaraja or AR Rahman..! Rahman is highly creative and talentedly manupulates any raaga...! Which is different with Illaiyaraja coz most of his song reveal true colour of the carnatic raagas. if you learn a little bit of carnatic music you'll get to know the differences.! composition of his film songs satisfying both audiences carnatic music listeners and film music listeners..! i think that's simply a gods gift.!
My God. Radha is stunning. I would go on to say she is the most beautiful actress to have acted in Tamil films ever. God's perfect creation. Even though I am a 20's guy I can say none of the present day actresses can stand upto her
OMG! Ilayaraja + mayamalawagowlai...it's intoxicating to say the least! Listening to this song is like a 'thalaattu'...puts me to sleep! AR Rahman's songs take time to grow on you, while IR songs floor you the first time you listen to it IMO!
@livordie4eelam NO. U listen ARR songs 25 times. Slowly we will like ARR songs. LOL!!! IR, first hearing he takes you to the top. Hahahahaha and stays for ever.
why do we have to compare legends.. i have older people who absolutely love MS and not into ilayaraja.. then my generation - love ilayaraja.. next gen in mr. ARR no doubt.. everyone one of them were awesome.. but in terms of 'instrument range' - ARR rules.
ilayaraja considered the best but ar rahman has his own style of music. ilayaraja cant do ar rahman music neither do ar rahman , he cant do ilayaraja music
Why do people keep talking about rehman when Illayarja has achieved more things?? Is it similar to the fading status of jimi hendrix, led zeppelin status to the hip-hop and jazz culture? I'd appreciate opinions because I am a guy still into the 70's music
I'm 20 and I love A R Rahman's compositions, and would listen to that rather than Ilayaraja.
However Ilayaraja never seizes to amaze me. If you say he achieved more than Rahman, I believe you.
They're style is evidently different, and they're both genius of their art. Ilayaraja's songs, I feel takes a more mature mind to enjoy though. That may explain younger generations' preference of Rahman.
lovely song

I just love the alternate ascent of all the charanam lines...
notice the variation in
"eppothum ena kathaaga ana... enthegam edaachu..."
"manjal kulikayile, nenju kizhiyuthu enna konjam anachu kollayya...."...
and then kalyan kacheri eppothu... unakku...
the variation is always in three swaras.... and so symettrical!!!
and on top of that symettric allitereation lyrics.... notice the "nja" rhyme in the manja kulikayile .. line .... classic!!!

@pankyled Jazz has been around much longer than rock music, but stays due to its timeless nature.
