i had my tonsils, abnords, and yuvilla (however you spell it) taken out 8 days ago and this is terrible. i'm getting flu like symptons, can hardly swallow, and havent eaten since the day before the surgery. i'm suffering big time and had to go back to my job which requires lots of labor. does anybody know how long all this lasts or what i can do to get better?

It's not that bad. I just came out of surgery a few hours ago. The anesicia really knocked me out. After that, all I remembered was waking up in the recovery room. The pain was minimum, it's not as bad. They gave me Morphine and before u know it, I felt no pain(: you'll be fine.
I'm getting mine out on 2/15/12 I'm so freakin scared that doctor was telling my mom it may bleed I felt like I was gonna die I'm like so scared but u showed me not to be scared so I'ma go through it hopefully pray for me lol :(
I have tonsillitis right now and after all of the inflamings over im going to go to a throat,nose, and ear doctor to get them checked out and get my tonsils removed, im not really scared and im happy that i will be getting them removed,(:

I got my tonsells out at 10 (My current age) and on the first day of summer. I hated it because for 3 weeks I couldnt do anything like hangout with my friends and got frestrated with everyone I could only eat 2 foods for 3 weeks mashpotatoas and macorani (it was so bland) but in the end it was worth it to get them out;)

I had my tonsils out on May 22 2008 when I was 11 yrs old it does hurt like crap!! I can't eat and drink cause it painful!! i'm 13 and today is 5 days after i had my surgery. the stage you were at in this video i was at maybe the 3 day mark. the docters told me it is worse when you get older so if you are like around my age it is awful for probably about a week then it isn't too bad.

@TheMurray904 Hey, don't worry honey. I had mine out when I was your age & the only part that was yucky - was feeling really tired after the anaesthesia, but that wore off over the next day. Its not a difficult surgery at all, I woke up feeling fine, no pain at all. You might feel like you have a cold or the flu, or something. The back of your throat will feel scratchy & you probably won't want ice or ice cream because of that. If I had to to it over, I wouldn't even get butterflies! :D Peace
@TheMurray904 I had my tonsils and aneoids out! Beware..it hurts like hell afterwards...When you first wake up from anestia your throat feels fine. But a couple hours later when you go home it feels like your choking on the punching bag thing in the back of your throat. And for the next week or so your in soo much pain. And everybody says "oh well you get to eat icecream and whatnot" but it hurts way to much to even eat anything! Just warning you. Lol goood luck(:

@quint2000410 N actually now my tonsils and strep throat is completely healed. I realized that taking out your tonsils is not the best? Why? Reason being when u take out your tonsils, you will still get strep throat and other common colds and stuff. Theres no stopping it. And at that, your tonsils can not prevent it from happening so haviing no tonsils at all will be even more of a struggle.

I just had my tonsils removed less then 24 hours ago. I am 14 almost 15 (birthdays in a month) and the reason I had to get mine out was because I was constantly sick with Strep Throat I had it ever 3 weeks. My tips for anyone getting their tonsils removed is if you can get a pillow pet (I know sounds silly) but it makes you feel better because you can cuddle with it and prop your head up so your throat doesn't hurt so bad.Another tip is if you feel like your going to throw up sniff a alcohol wi

@aparker884, well I have had some intestinal surgerys and they did a colostomy and they did kidney surgery and I have had alot of face surgery and I had some ear surgerys and eye surgery and I even had a distraction osteotomy on my face where they put this device on called a RED device and I'll have jaw surgery this summer wich will make 40 surgerys and then they will reshape my nose in a rhinoplasty.

i had mine taken out along with my adenoids August 28, 2008 when i was 17. I had strep throat 5-6 times a year so i had to. I had a very hard recovery. From what my doctor told me the older you are the worst and longer your recovery is. After my surgery i wasnt doing well at all. i couldnt even drink without getting sick. i was admitted to the hospital for 3 day. I ended up missing 2 wks of school because of it and it was the start of my senior yr. i lived of icees for a wk plus.

@smokin231 hey i got my tonsils and adn's taken out i must say the surgery is not bad its the after math, be aware that the meds they give can give u turble poopn and if you dont eat enoght may cause u to have really bad problems. i myself went to the ER 5times because i had not poopn in 4weeks and because when i tryd it got st in my butt... ways to help prevent that from happening eat as much as u can try to not take to many pain pills. drink... hope u recover well!

I got mine taken out on the 21 of May this year and I have barely used any pain medicine but am taken Amox. The pain was not too bad and I am at the age of 26 going on 27 soon. I started eating on the very first day. I ate a popsicle, pudding, jello, cut small pieces of ham but realized I had trouble swallowing since my uvila was swollen. Then I ate ice cream afterwards. Next day, I ate vienna sausage winnies, macorroni, mashed potatoes..stuff like that.

@lisagrayz , it stayed swollen for about...2 or 3 days. I felt discomfort when waking up from the surgery and the feeling of being unable to breathe lasted less than a minute for me. I'm a non-smoker so that might have helped. As the days progress I still had issues with the uvila b/c it was still swollen but once that starts to pick up then you will sleep and wake up better in the morning.
the older u r the worse it hurts... i was in severe pain for 2 and a half weeks... had to be put on so much liquid codeine that i slept about 18-20 hours a day ... the longer u wait to get it done.. the worse the healing process... trust me on that lmao
I haven't had mine out but by the sounds I'm not going 2 either because of the sound of pain (pain is so horrible to make it worse I have overly sensitive skin) I'm never having it done but if you open a can of coke or anouther type of soft drink would it hurt your throat?
@justsean01 I had my surgery 8 days ago and it wasnt that bad, for me anyway. I was taken aback by a scab "coming off and bleeding" that was pretty gross. And I literally cried, on the 7th day post op from pain. I currently still have scabs though. But the web is a scary place, lol.
i get a sore throat like 2 times every month. my doctor looked at my tonsils and said they were the size of golf balls xD lol well im getting them taken out next week. hopefully i wont sound different o.o
my tonsils are hewg and i am not kidding thay are massive i am 15 and i had tonsilitas a lot as a baby and now i have it again so my mum is going to see if i can have them out i have less than you pinky finger gap to breath through and my tonsils are narly tuching.
Getting your tonsils removed sucks, its been a week and the pain still hasn't gone away. The best way to eat something is right after you take your painkillers and it kicks in, eat some hot ramen or soup. It definitely feels alot better than any other food. Milkshakes and smoothies are also really good, especially when you take big gulps. Hope this helps.
@SupfreshGabby don't drink milkshakes and smoothies... may feel good but it sticks to the wounds and makes them feel worse after.... and ice water can really hurt ... room temperature or slightly chilled felt better when i had mine out

@TheMurray904 Hey, don't worry honey. I had mine out when I was your age & the only part that was yucky - was feeling really tired after the anaesthesia, but that wore off over the next day. Its not a difficult surgery at all, I woke up feeling fine, no pain at all. You might feel like you have a cold or the flu, or something. The back of your throat will feel scratchy & you probably won't want ice or ice cream because of that. If I had to to it over, I wouldn't even get butterflies! :D Peace

@TheMurray904 I had my tonsils and aneoids out! Beware..it hurts like hell afterwards...When you first wake up from anestia your throat feels fine. But a couple hours later when you go home it feels like your choking on the punching bag thing in the back of your throat. And for the next week or so your in soo much pain. And everybody says "oh well you get to eat icecream and whatnot" but it hurts way to much to even eat anything! Just warning you. Lol goood luck(:

I may have to have this done, SO not looking forward to it. I am praying to almighty GOD that these antibiotics do the trick instead. My tonsils are like bloated balloons right now. This really should have been done when I was a child (am 33 now).

I just got my tonsils out yesterday..I'm eating kinda..like mashed potateos and stuff. Tho cold feels better. My uvula is all white and swollen. Was anyone else's white? I almost think they cauterized it. They have me on tylenol with codine. And oxycotin for pain. So far so good.

i got mine out on friday and all of saturday, its the worst pain ever!! it sucks ass.. and im 16 yrs old, i can barely drink water it hurts so bad but u just have to force it. and im also the top offensive lineman in the state im 6'0 280 and im already down to 270. im hungry!!!!!!!!

@quint2000410 N actually now my tonsils and strep throat is completely healed. I realized that taking out your tonsils is not the best? Why? Reason being when u take out your tonsils, you will still get strep throat and other common colds and stuff. Theres no stopping it. And at that, your tonsils can not prevent it from happening so haviing no tonsils at all will be even more of a struggle.

Im going to have mine out on march 4th at 6:30 am 2011, im 23 and im jest worried about what could go wrong during my surgery.Im not afraid of the pain jest the being put to sleep part and not waking up): I have the holy ghost from the only one that can give it jesus.But I jest dont like the being druged out part.This vid helps to know other people go through the same thing.

I just had my tonsils removed less then 24 hours ago. I am 14 almost 15 (birthdays in a month) and the reason I had to get mine out was because I was constantly sick with Strep Throat I had it ever 3 weeks. My tips for anyone getting their tonsils removed is if you can get a pillow pet (I know sounds silly) but it makes you feel better because you can cuddle with it and prop your head up so your throat doesn't hurt so bad.Another tip is if you feel like your going to throw up sniff a alcohol wi

you know I have had 39 surgerys but I never had a tonsillectomy before. I am not sure how painful it is but my brother had it done and he had a hard ti. you know I have more surgery on the way.

@aparker884, well I have had some intestinal surgerys and they did a colostomy and they did kidney surgery and I have had alot of face surgery and I had some ear surgerys and eye surgery and I even had a distraction osteotomy on my face where they put this device on called a RED device and I'll have jaw surgery this summer wich will make 40 surgerys and then they will reshape my nose in a rhinoplasty.

i had mine taken out along with my adenoids August 28, 2008 when i was 17. I had strep throat 5-6 times a year so i had to. I had a very hard recovery. From what my doctor told me the older you are the worst and longer your recovery is. After my surgery i wasnt doing well at all. i couldnt even drink without getting sick. i was admitted to the hospital for 3 day. I ended up missing 2 wks of school because of it and it was the start of my senior yr. i lived of icees for a wk plus.

@smokin231 hey i got my tonsils and adn's taken out i must say the surgery is not bad its the after math, be aware that the meds they give can give u turble poopn and if you dont eat enoght may cause u to have really bad problems. i myself went to the ER 5times because i had not poopn in 4weeks and because when i tryd it got st in my butt... ways to help prevent that from happening eat as much as u can try to not take to many pain pills. drink... hope u recover well!

haha i got mine out when i was like three and all i remember was laying on a bed then i went into a dark room and they put a blue clothespin like thing on my finger, i fell asleep and when i woke up i was sitting down eating the most popcicles ive prob ever eaten, then i left the hospital and my mom was holding me while i was crying like crazy..... but now i dont snoar so i guess it was worth it?

wen igot mine out. it felt like i was drunk for about 5 seconds then i remember waking up and it felt like i got punched in the throat lol. but i remember eating frys and shit like 4 days after my sugury and that fucking hurt so bad. lol. but you did pretty good ima dude so i sounded like a little girl for about a week and a half lol. but all in all it wasnt all too bad except for the pain in the middle of the night making it hard to breathe lol. but it all workd out and im back to normal

I had tonsillectomy (and had part of my uvula cut out, and they took out my adenoids), they injected the medication into my body through iv drip, woke up and due to the fact that I had a BAD cough before surgery i spent 2 weeks in the hospital under urgent care...fml....

I got mine taken out on the 21 of May this year and I have barely used any pain medicine but am taken Amox. The pain was not too bad and I am at the age of 26 going on 27 soon. I started eating on the very first day. I ate a popsicle, pudding, jello, cut small pieces of ham but realized I had trouble swallowing since my uvila was swollen. Then I ate ice cream afterwards. Next day, I ate vienna sausage winnies, macorroni, mashed potatoes..stuff like that.

@lisagrayz , it stayed swollen for about...2 or 3 days. I felt discomfort when waking up from the surgery and the feeling of being unable to breathe lasted less than a minute for me. I'm a non-smoker so that might have helped. As the days progress I still had issues with the uvila b/c it was still swollen but once that starts to pick up then you will sleep and wake up better in the morning.

the older u r the worse it hurts... i was in severe pain for 2 and a half weeks... had to be put on so much liquid codeine that i slept about 18-20 hours a day ... the longer u wait to get it done.. the worse the healing process... trust me on that lmao

I haven't had mine out but by the sounds I'm not going 2 either because of the sound of pain (pain is so horrible to make it worse I have overly sensitive skin) I'm never having it done but if you open a can of coke or anouther type of soft drink would it hurt your throat?

@justsean01 I had my surgery 8 days ago and it wasnt that bad, for me anyway. I was taken aback by a scab "coming off and bleeding" that was pretty gross. And I literally cried, on the 7th day post op from pain. I currently still have scabs though. But the web is a scary place, lol.

Getting your tonsils removed sucks, its been a week and the pain still hasn't gone away. The best way to eat something is right after you take your painkillers and it kicks in, eat some hot ramen or soup. It definitely feels alot better than any other food. Milkshakes and smoothies are also really good, especially when you take big gulps. Hope this helps.
