A fine song inspired by Bono's visit to a display of artworks by Japanese atomic bomb survivors entitled 'The Unforgettable Fire'. The 'actual' video for this had some memorable images which played upon that exhibition too.

This was all Brian Eno, fellow U2 friends. U2 had no concept of making a song like this until they begged Eno and lanoi to be their producers after War. I'm not complaining cause I wouldn't want to hear a War part 2. This to me is the best song on an album that seemed to be unfinished.

Anyone know the meaning of the lyrics?? Someone must have told me years ago it was about the stardust tragedy in dublin because i always thought it was. And yet it was only the other day when i did a bit of online research did i discover theres not one single trace or mention of that link. Every great band has at least a few songs that werent their biggest chart topper or well known at all (probably never released as singles) but really is a classic, when you dig in deep. I think this is one for U2. A masterpiece of the mid80s to mid 90s era for them.

Grew up with my parents being big time fans of U2.
