This song creates a positive euphoric atmospere too me, probably because when I first heard it was when I was 6 back in '96 or '97 and I use to play this game all the time and everything was nice back then. Now that Im older and I listen too it, it ruins the magic of the song kinda because all those nice things are gone now
I listened to GOw 1, Deus Ex and Skyrim's OST and thought....wow. What Epic soundtracks. Then I listened to this again, and was amazed by how much BETTER this is, even though it's not orchestral or heavy rock or anything.
the 90´s where the best, awsome music, greats cartoons, and epic videogames.
today is fucked for the kids, the music is soo fucked up, with jb, and lady gaga, the tv is awful, these new cartoons are all just disgusting and has no sense, and the games, wow, all the kids talks about call of duty, grand theft auto and shit like that thatt are all the same, and somehow, easy, i dare any of the kids who finished gta, to finish dkc 2 at 102%, that was a real game
When I listen to this, I can hear myself in it. I can remember things I don't want to, and I can think of people I want to never forget. There is something about this music that feels completing: a lurking sadness when I'm happy, a secret joy when I'm unwell. I try to keep my mind here -- attentive, humble, and open to care -- but it's hard sometimes. I'm trying though, and I'm thankful that I have this tune to help me.
@Navahinueve I know just what you mean! This song touches on so many different complex mixes of emotions, on top of serving as a wonderful memory link to far away times (Chrono Trigger reference). I've been listening to this song for going on 16 years, and I have yet to grow tired of it. There are few songs I have heard in my life that I can say that about.
@Navahinueve I agree with you in probably every way possible. This song does open up joy and sadness in my heart, but the most memorable part is when I lost someone close to me. As for the joy, it was the first time I made it to Arctic Abyss.
@advancedpillow yeah, I know he composed this! But i meant all old games composers. Guys like Koji Kondo, Junichi Masuda, Allister Brimble, Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka and others from many games I played at my childhood... :D
@advancedpillow I feel the same way. I always knew that somewhere out there, there were people who cherished the sacred game music from the Golden Era of Gaming as much as my brother and I do, and the internet has made it possible to find and form a community with such like-minded, "like-spirited" people. The hallowed game soundtracks are the best conduit to the most wonderful parts of my life growing up. Things were so simple back then...
@couvepodre It seems like game designers did a better job when they had more limits. I mean, look at Square. They have all the flashy production values anyone could ever want, and yet their games nowadays have no soul. It's sad, really. Oh well, at least we'll always have this.
I remember the days of racing home from school just to play this game, the level for this song was my favorite, I would sit there for an hour just listening to it.
I miss the games that had such beautiful sounding music, the games of today can't compare with games of the past. My younger brother who loves the new games thinks the old games suck, I almost slappd him when he said that.
Without games like this one and classics like final fantasy 2 and 3, what new games would there be? NONE!
@Deathofblades They're in the same key, the drum pattern (and sounds) are very similar, the melody is also similar in places. Hell, even the title suggests some sort of reference to Antarctica
@matthehat I've noticed the same drum pattern but no same key or sounds. Both have the same themes but I've heard a bunch of island themes that sound alike and are called island themes. No biggie.
Music reminds me of playing on my N64 and my cousin's SNES as a child. Super Mario World, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask. It seems like video games were so much more magical and meaningful back then. I would give anything to be 6-11 years old again!
I remember the first time i heard this theme on the game, I just don't moved out Diddy and Dixie from the starting position cause the music was to good and i wanted to hear it without any effect.
This is nice :) I'm actually in search of another DK music piece I know it plays in an ice level, possibly inside an ice cave but I'm not sure which game it's on I know the girl is available on it. It's a piece a lot like this very calm and peaceful sound. If anyone has a clue let me know!
i think that the most beuatiful and expensive music created in the world is in the games...
Just remember the sound tracks of rare... bring me a faith... also the beatifull themes golden eye and killer instict 1 and 2... good job for the humans...
I gotta say this song, along with others, hint at a deeper sadness. I wonder what inspiration David Wise got for these songs. They just sound a bit personal if you ask me.
@OctillianODS ya I get really sad when I listen to this song...it's very touching, whether they are personal though or just genius renditions of music i'm not sure
@OctillianODS Like it might just be the reaction to the coldness of the piece in general. Every sound in the atmosphere of winter perfectly. I just picture fields of snow when I listen to this.
You know, I always thought that this era in gaming was great, but it would be sooo much better in 3D! I was always so excited as a kid about what the future would bring. Boy was I in for a rude awakening. This era of games to be, is truly the zenith of gaming and this game is one of the best from that era.
@Imake80k I too have been rather disappointed by the direction the game industry has taken. What I imagined the game industry becoming as a kid/teenager bore very little resemblance to the current landscape of gaming. It's sad......
@zenjiros Yeah, growing up on classics like DKC, and Final Fantasies 1-9, basically any game on every system up until the end of the PS1 where Music and Story were at it's peak. I would just imagine what would come next. But now it's just an OVER-saturation of shooter games everywhere. I still play them, but it really does suck. At least I had the privilege of growing up during the Golden Era of Gaming, besides I can always pop in a classic and enjoy it just as I did back in the day. :D
@streetskater03 dude same here, exactly the same, i was a happy "gamer" like, litterly happy and i was a kid, and i saw the evolution of technology and going oh man this must be badass now the deal is who has more games (theres a trillion) and 1st shooters, i buy a gamer finish it the day i bought in 8 hours, they're cool and stuff but somehow...the old games REMAIN epic because it was part of me

Time really flew by like our parents said it would. I really miss those days. Song definately has an impact. Brought tears.
@jackle9 Just take a break for a weakend. If you don't have to work on weekdays then just stay home and be a kid again. No shame in that. I'm not a grown-up yet, but sometimes I just like to make some popcorn and take all the snacks i can find out to my garage with my brother and just sit and play through all my SNES games all weekend with him. Its good to keep some of your childish self inside of you. It can really help you in the hard times. Plus it keeps the memories alive. (=
@rootbeer543 My two friends and I play games on PC and PS3. We team up on Call of Duty, COD: Zombies, Left 4 Dead, and many others. No shame in gaming. Still, I miss the old games. I'm sure somewhere down the road I'll pull out my Super NES and play them again though. ;)

Wow, I miss the days when good videogame music was all around you in every game you played. Now, a good track comes every once in a while, but not as much as it used to ;_:
@PeyserConley its a really relaxing song but i wouldn't say most ever, i like aa better than this track but i think this is more relaxed. it dont even got a kick!
@brandflake11 Agreed. There are others as well from DKC3, like Frosty Frolics. I also find the oft-referenced Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 to be nice and relaxing.
WOW!!! this is crystal clear quality sound! thanks man, this really took me back! oh man i cant explain the feeling i got just now. i was right there in front of my super nintendo, old tv, along with my brothers trying to beat this amazing game.
@BenjaminTapia1 Hell yea mate! I totally feel the same ! good good old times ! im so happy I could be there in the 90's look what we have now as games to beat the crap out of each other :( kinda sux this brings back they old and good memories ! best of best games every DK!

@galamotshaku I'm a big fan of Vangelis work and this music fits as the perfect homage to him.

Wow, I miss the days when good videogame music was all around you in every game you played. Now, a good track comes every once in a while, but not as much as it used to ;_:

Aquatic Ambience (the underwater theme) from DKC 1 for instance. It's one of the most relaxing songs ever.

@PeyserConley Pokey pipes from DKC3 (SNES) is also a relaxing song. It's a little more darker though.

@brandflake11 Agreed. There are others as well from DKC3, like Frosty Frolics. I also find the oft-referenced Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 to be nice and relaxing.

@PeyserConley Forest Interlude puts me in a nostalgic lullaby.

@ApostleHash I like both of those and also the Forest Interlude probably best. My opinion changes about every 5 seconds.
