There's something about this track that touches a deeper part of the brain. i'm 28 years old and to this day I still get an awesome sense of reverence and legacy when I here this tune. In some ways this is the best piece of music ever put to a movie scene.
Literally, every time I see that moment when Atreyu after a hellish journey of pain, discovery and courage sees that tower. I literally get goosebumps on my arms and a shiver down my spine.

Gmork said the Nothing was caused by humans loosing dreams and wishes (I vaugly remember in II the bookstore keeper saying it changes each time you read it). Is this all based on Bastian? Would it be different with someone else reading it? (Never did like II and II; in III Falcor looked and sounded TERRIBLE)
See, really the Tower is actually gone now, but the Orin represents the Soul of the "real" boy that still has hope and dreams. It's the soul of the boy that Ateyu calls upon to bring him to the Tower. Pretty amazing.
Original theme? it is the only theme that I remember, it has a dreamy feel, just right for the movie. Was the music different in the American release?. I would like to watch both versions for comparison. Some films seem to work better in one language than another, Mon père, ce héros, was made in French in 1991 and in English (My Father the Hero) in 1994 when it just didn't seem funny. Maybe it was just my beer going flat.
yea..I heared this one was a remade version of the original one heared on the soundtrack. They changed it and put it in the movie as we still remember it till now.
Man, I see no reason to not include this wonderful piece of music along with the soundtrack!! why they couldn't put it instead of that synth piece of shit?! :( they just don't know any better... I'm also respecting Klaus Doldinger, and all of his music works in the film. But, as I grown on the American version, Giorgio Moroder's "Ivory Tower" piece is better for my opinion. It's like those circles on the top of the tower used as the bells sounds in the music piece of it :) Always felt like that.
@Strekoza Amen! I've been looking for this version and yeah, this is much, much better than what you called 'that synth piece of shit'. I agree completely. This one fits the scene and pretty much impresses the audience of the majesty and grandeur of the Ivory Tower.
@Strekoza Aren't you mixing it up? The piece you can hear here is Klaus Doldinger's, which I could not find anywhere in any of the soundtracks I have bought. Instead, they've put Moroder's one, qhich is more modern and with a lot of synth. I personally like this one faaaar better. Does anyone know where I could get it?
@Volodioso Nope. The first seconds IS Klaus Doldinger's (track no. 14 on the German released OST - Flug Zum Elfenbeinturm), the latter (0:22) IS definitely by Giorgio Moroder (a version which absent off the American released OST - watch?v=e48CINCrIJM).
@Strekoza OMG!! Thank you so much for the link which led me to a downloadable mp3!! I know it had beed 2 years, but I have been looking for this theme sooo desperately!!
I am 24 and this music still gives me chills and brings me near to tears....its so beautiful! And the images even tho they are as old as me are still great!
i dont think its real i thnink they just use pcs or somethin like that. i dont think they would kill elephants just to make something for their movie. x x

Purely epic.

The Ivory Tower looks to me like it could been inspired by the Paradise tower of the painter Hieronymous Bosch.
