  • Catholics vs Protestants in the 20th century eh? What a sad lot we are!

  • How come they don't talk about the five thousand british troops and a new headquaters for mi5 in county down, hollywood, ? ? Is there really peace ? That American money goes thru the banks of london, and the banks make there money. If peace sells who buying ?

  • no more! do not let more innocents die.i dont care if you disagree with whatever side.all we want to do now is move on and live in peace, brits or no brits we are sick and tired of being sick and tired

  • Hi, my name is Jacob Bebbington, and I'm currently gathering peoples accounts of the troubles as inspiration for a memorial piece. All going well this will be situated in a N.I city, and part of the N.I Arts Fair. I am working with professional designer Jonathan Barnbrook in this project and am also hoping to work with the N.I community. If you have any personal or family accounts and would like to be part of this please message me back on this account and i can provide an email address. Thanks

  • Some of the comments here prove that some people will never be strong willed enough to resist the brainwashing that goes on in this country. Life is too short to get caught up in petty squabbling over who has rights to what. I was born and raised in Northern Ireland. Am I catholic? No. Am I Protestant? No. Do I give a damn if ireland is united? No. Do I give a crap if it isn't? No. The only thing I want to do is just live. And everyone has a right to that.

  • hahaha.

    Ireland is our future colony.

    They study English.

  • frankieireland really \couldnt have said it better myself mate you said wat im sure every irish man and woman thinks when british reporters run about the north proclaiming how similar it is to the rest of the uk forgetting that most of us still want to see those pricks fuck off id love for one of them to approach me in the street id soon let them know just wat the irish think of them and their just like the rest of the uk comments

  • Northern Ireland is a very nice place. I was recently in Belfast actually, and it's now a buzzing place that's growing in optimism. The younger people up there are wonderful and will be the making of Northern Ireland in the future. Both communities of NI need to realise that they are actually similar and should co-operate and learn to trust each other more. The reality is, both communities will have to get along and live side-by-side in the future, whether it's still in the UK or part of a UI.

  • Ireland unfree shall never be at peace!

  • It'll never stop until Ireland is a free country, every other country would rebel

  • THE LIE IS THAT THE UK IS A NON-VIOLENT, PEACE LOVING COUNTRY1 Look at the statistics of violent crime in London & large cities in the UK. IT'S worse than MANY in the USA. All the gun-control & laws didn't change human behaviour.

The biggest lie is that laws concerning objects (guns, drugs, or liquor) can change a society. Social ills are remedied at the root causation; not at the inanimate object, that is a symbol that rallies votes from the uninformed & fearful.

  • Yeah, "just like any other city in the UK" is the kind of insensitive comment that still rankles. Also saying simply that the IRA were just trying to kick the brits out is inaccurate, maybe they don't know in the UK, as they conveniently forget to teach it in their schools, but it was a total disregard for irish nationalists' civil rights just like apartheid which inspired the IRA resurgence. How do these people get on TV??

  • ''Now this is like any other city in the United Kingdom''.

Feck off . . just cos the British have pissed on it doesnt mean its not Irish land . . it always was and it always will be.God gave it to us . . not them.

Also . . 'Ireland unfree shall never be at peace'.

. . call me bitter of you want . . but that little philosphy there isnt turning out to be quite so true . . just hope people havent forgot . . tíocfaidh ar lá le cunamh Dé . .

  • Time to get past this nonsense. One people one world. Tribalism is the past. Get on the train before it leaves the station you small-minded twit.

    RP Oakville Ontario Canada

  • easy to say when you live in canada

  • It's not "one people", you Canadian moron.

Unionists have no claim to the land.

  • Good report, i'm from Dublin. And there's only one Ireland.

  • One Island two countries.

  • i also hope for a united ireland, but not under a republic!! under a united kingdom with great britian as it all once was before all this sectarian bullshit!

    god save the queen!

    long live ireland!

  • Hey Fuck the Queen

  • Really good synopsis of what happened here! The cameraman got some really good shots too. You make this place look beautiful!

  • Good to see Belfast getting back on it's feet, economically.

  • Well maybe someday I hope they will be united, perhaps the economy will help do that.

  • But having two different currencies might NOT help....

  • the ira will always be around ,,victory to the ira ,,victory to the people ,,,brits must go home first ,,,tiocfaidh ar la

  • What ever happened to the IRA? Are they still around?

  • Sort of

  • Only dissident ones. Generally, the IRA and Loyalist paramilitaries are on the decrease. Communities dont want them anymore and have come to realise that they are not protecting communities, they're exploiting them.

Mentallity is still the same really, but people are finding better ways to express this without resorting to violence. But then again, this is the start of the riot season, so we just have to wait and see i guess.

  • may more sucess for Ireland now and the future

  • not go back until..heh heh

capitalism rules BUT for how long..

  • Let us hope that the Irish example will bring hope to other regions throughout the world currently in conflict. There is hope.

  • Bless the people of Ireland . and all people around the world.

  • God bless Sinn Fein !!

  • "progress"*

  • Thanks for making this al-Jazeera!
