  • too bad they cross there fingers when they say it now.

  • Obama can't even get the oath right

  • fred vinson's voice is so damn freaky

  • 1/20/01 theday america fell

  • I don't think Chief Justice Roberts feels unduly embarrassed over it. He made an honest mistake and the whole thing fell off the rails, but they redid it the next day and it's not like it actually changed anything. Mr. Chief Justice apologized and they all got back to work.

  • ONE LOSER DISLIKED!!! xD

  • Only reason Im Here Was To See President Jimmy Carters Oath___ Reason:Lil Wayne (President Dwayne Carter) ;) <3

  • Notice that Truman kissed the bible. I think a lot of those old guys really considered that oath sacred. Politicians today are sad jokes. I've sworn a few oaths and to me things like that are sacred. I don't think they are though to most of today's politicians.

  • @heartfire451 it was a tradition that george washington started but eisenhower broke it. truman was the last one to kiss the bible after the oath.

  • Me thinks Chief Justice Roberts must really hate the existence of YouTube

  • I honestly thought every president did perfectly fine except for Obama. Some of them stumbled a little bit, but Obama was appalling. He was the only one who completely screwed it up. It made America look bad. Yet it’s no surprise based on this atrocity we call his presidency.

  • @NodnarbResierk uhh no the chief justice said it wrong. and obama was like wtf

  • @JoePlaya87 haha I did :p

  • Good: Rooosevelt Truman Eisenhower Okay: Clinton LBJ JFK Nixon Bush1 Carter Ford Bad: Obama Reagan Bush2
  • thumbs up if you came here because of lil waynes president carter

  • what a good video

  • AHA!!! the constitution never says the presidential oath of office shall include the words "so help me god", and if he wanted the president elect does not have to say it. but good luck gettin re-elected if you dont. thumbs up if you think this is unfair...

  • I can't believe Roberts messed up Obama's oath. To watch the whole video and then have the last one be messed up is kind of a letdown.

  • I wish Truman's first oath had audio! That would have been cool to hear.

  • Warren Burger was the best at saying the oath.

  • none of them said united states of america! pay attention

  • @braggs619 Yes because the of america was never in the oath PAY ATTENTION!

  • FUCKING LIAR, U MOTHERFUCKER BURN IN HELL

  • Our Presidents

  • I would say Roosevelt=bad; Truman=good; Eisenhower=good; Kennedy=good; Johnson=bad; Ford=good; Carter=bad; Reagan=good; Bush 41=good; Clinton=good; Bush 43=good; Obama=bad

  • @rollingthunder1982 You forgot Nixon in your listing, although I assume he'll be good for you. idk

  • @rollingthunder1982 Roosevelt = C, Truman = B+, Eisenhower = B, Kennedy = C, Johnson = F, Nixon = F, Ford = C+ (had to clean up Johnson and Nixon`s messes), Carter = F, Reagan = F, Bush 1 = D+, Clinton = D-, Bush 2 = F, Obama = D- (and getting worse).

  • Roosevelt = Good president Truman = Bad President Eisenhower = Good president Kennedy = Bad president Johnson = Bad president Nixon = Bad president Ford = Bad president Carter = Bad president Reagan = Good president George H.W. Bush = Bad president Clinton = Good prsident George W. Bush = Bad president Obama = Bad president
  • I think Warren Burger had the best voice of any Chief Justice.

  • Last real president was John.F.Kennedy latest are just puppets

  • John Roberts' botching of the oath of office is proof that arrogant federal judges do not read the Constitution. The text of the oath is in the Constitution, and there is absolutely no excuse for a federal judge not knowing the text of the oath.

  • Fucking Roberts can do a simple task.

  • why are you guys arguing about who messed up, Obama or Roberts...who cares lol

  • @oboy8904life Roberts messed up.

  • Other flubs besides Roberts. Eisenhower said "the office of THE president of the United States" on both his oaths, Bush almost spoke out to soon before Renquist, Clinton opened his mouth to soon on both his oaths, Bill Taft said "Preserve, MAINTAIN and defend" to Hoover.

  • @JDUB73EB Those presidents who almost spoke too soon, the thing is if you'll notice, it varies from one inauguration to another how many of the words the chief justice says at a time before each pause. If you look at the '05 swearing in for Bush's 2nd term, Chief Justice Rehnquist could barely speak as he was talking through a trach tube and so his was the most broken up of any of them--only a few words at a time

  • Comment removed

  • Nick, where'd you find these, and the Johnson oath sounds like it came from a dictation machine or something.

  • Most of them come from a website called "American Presidents: Life Portraits".

  • @bjr43 yes, the johnson oath was taken on a dictation machine.

  • @bjr43 what do you expect? he took the oath on an airplane after Kennedy had been shot...

  • George Herbert Walker Bush and Bill Clinton both went a little fast too. But I think Obama should have repeated it the correct way. At the time it looked as though Obama made the mistake and not Roberts.

  • Seeing as Roberts was speaking first... how is that possible? I don't fault either man. I've heard that Roberts was so nervous he could barely get his robe zipped up.

  • @mapboy78 Compare and conclude. Roberts fucked up.

  • I noticed that like Obama, Bush Sr and Clinton cut off Rehnquist at the beginning, but at least Rehnquist didn't fumble the rest of the oath like Roberts did.

  • I think that's pretty much the main reason for this vid, obama's oath.

  • Obama went too fast first, but Roberts completely fucked it up saying the complete opposite of what he was supposed to say and obama shouldn't have repeated the wording mistake

  • hey Obama got the main part right to "preserve protect and defend the constitution of the United States."you can just put a big fat word LIAR on when Bush and Nixon say it.

  • Okay, both Obama and Roberts messed up the oath, however history will record that the oath was repeated to get it correctly

  • Was FDR even raising his right hand at all?

  • Good question! Maybe the raising of the right hand was latter.

  • The raising of the right hand is not in the Constitution, but has become traditional. Because of his paralysis, FDR had to keep one hand on the lectern, or he would have tipped over.

  • The text of the Presidential oath of office is set forth in the United States Constitution. The fact that Chief Justice Roberts bungled it proves that federal judges (especially those on the Supreme Court) do not ever read the Constitution! They prefer to make up the law as they go along.

  • Epic Fail....very sad lol

  • It's always been my dream to be President, and I will take this oath someday.

  • Someone said let go of the race thing, but one thing I couldn't help but notice cause of the contrast. The soldiers who administer the 21 gun salute. I am sure there is someone who has a say on the matter when planning the ceremony, but if you notice, all the people at W's salute were white males, and if you see video of Obamas, there are women, blacks, etc, I just thought the contrast was weird seeing from Inauguration2001- Inauguration2009. You might need to see other videos for better pic

  • This really is a wonderful video.

  • Comment removed

  • Obama took the oath a again just to make sure.

Every President gets is a 21-gun-salute on inauguration day.

  • Actually, Chief Justice John Roberts messed it up. Obama was repeating the words after him, and he bungled them.

  • Comment removed

  • wrong, obama messed up first by cutting in on justice roberts before he finished the first phrase that every other justice repeats the exact same way. in fact, the justice swearing in reagan paused there and reagan knew not to jump in. obama messed up first...and justice roberts bungled the entire speech thereafter.

  • Say whatever you want. I really don't care anymore.

  • Obama didn't mess up, Cheif justace Roberts did, and Medeasbiggestfan is right about every president getting a 21-gun salute on inauguration.

  • Thanks man, I got it

  • i'm sorry, i love me some obama...but he cuts in on justice roberts before he can finish saying, "...do solemly swear"...he messed up first and justice roberts was just too stupid to stay on track!

  • you are right! he cut in on roberts first. but then roberts bungled the entire thing.

  • @ActiveAtlantic I'm no Obama fan, but in fairness, it was Chief Justice Roberts who botched the oath, and then Obama was clearly at a loss for whether to repeat the words incorrectly ordered as Roberts said them or change the order to make it right but then appear to be correcting the chief justice

  • @ActiveAtlantic The new chief justice actually messed up, and Obama seemed to recognize it. But he tried to be diplomatic. It was a train-wreck of an inauguration, but this was both men's first national and constitutionally important moment. So I bet they were very nervous.

  • @ActiveAtlantic Obama did not screw up, Chief Justice Roberts left out "Faithfully" so when Obama came to that word he paused, so Chief Justice Roberts could correct himself. Because the Oath is one of the most important speeches in all his presidency. After he finishes his sentence, he becomes a senator to the President of the United States of America. He didn't mess up, he wanted it to be successful and honorarily, like a real president.

  • still waiting on a undoxed birth certificate

  • The guy who gave Obama the oath of office messed it up.

  • Actually, Obama interrupted Chief Justice Roberts first; then, the Chief Justice botched part of the Oath.

  • They both screwed up at the same time. It's really annoying how every Justice changes the location of the breaks in the oath--they should have the breaks set at specific places so the president isn't left guessing when the oath is being read.

  • If they'd just take their time, their wouldn't be a problem, but both we're nervous ofcourse.

  • yeah with millions of people listening to them

  • actually, if you watch all of them...they ALL break at the same point there, after.."...do solemnly swear" justice roberts didn't pause after obama's name...he maybe took 1/4 of a breath but obama cut him off.

  • wtf?

  • umm Obama didnt cheat so i dont know where you are trying to go on this but its clear the speaker seemed to mess up on purpose. not cool

JFK definetly wanted to change things, very confident man

  • Greatest ones.

    2:34-3:07

    5:40-6:25

    8:19-9:10

    10:02-10:55

  • Jimmy Carter - really?

  • yes i think he was its not his fault about the economy it would of happend to Ford if he won.

  • @Medeasbiggestfan Jimmy Carter LOL

  • @Nacho2333 i bet ur black

  • @1945joshuaruiz what does that have to do with it? Im mixed.

  • You know Obama should've done like FDR and said the Oath without cheating. ;)

  • Eww, what's with that nasty shit on Dubya's shirt that was dripping?

  • idk maybe slush hehe

  • fyi truman says I Harry S Truman instead of I Harry Shippie Truman

  • His middle name was S, not Shippie.

  • whos middle name is S lol on wikkipedia it even says his full name was Harry Shippie Truman

  • No it doesn't!

  • not on his profile if you look up the oaf of office and the people who had to take it again it said Truman did it because the man swearing him in said Shippie

  • Truman didn't have to take the oath again because he corrected the Chief Justice.

In any case, his middle name was S, not Shippie.

  • "Oaf of office" -- that's a good one, even if it was unintended. ;-)

  • Harry Truman never had a middle name he just put the letter S. I read it in a book

  • US chain of command is Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Inoye and Clinton. Of the top five, only one is your basic white guy.

    cool.

  • What does gender or color have to do with anything. Let go.

  • Lol Nixon is the person who had more appearances during the video...

  • Chief Justice Earl Warren, who administered the oath of office for President JFK in 1961,was Governor of my State,California from 1943-53.Anyways great video,I love history.

  • Hey, I have seen a video of FDR inauguration and in that video, Chief Justice Hughes showed he administered the oath and said the following:

"You Franklin Delano Roosevelt do solemnly swear (or affirm) that you will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of your Ability to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Why is it not showed here?

  • YouTube videos are limited to a maximum length of 11 mins. So Chief Justice Hughes wouldn't fit.

  • Very nice to see all the inaugurations. Obama had to redo his do to the mistake, but I cut John Roberts some slack because it was his 1st inauguration. I wish Obama the best of luck.

  • I like how with every new President, the quality of the recording gets better. Technological progress!

Is it me, or did JFK not have his hand on the bible?

  • No, a Bible is not even required to take the oath.

  • I noticed that too, SuperTrekNerd. It seemed he was just standing over the Bible and his left arm appeared to be at his side.

  • It's a Catholic thing apparently. During the sermon on the mount, Jesus says oaths are often bad things.

  • @SuperTrekNerd Yeah I noticed that too. According to the history books, President Theodore Roosevelt is the only president that was never sworn in with a bible, but rather with an uplifted hand. Another interesting thing is Truman is the only president in this video to have kissed the bible after being sworn in. The tradition dates back to the 1st president, George Washington all the way up to President Franklin Pierce where it was just the placing the left hand on the bible instead.

  • I like the way Eisenhower pronounces Constitution.

  • I like Eisenhower's period, his was the best; and Chief Justice Warren E. Burger does a beautiful job reciting the Oath

  • He used notes unlike Roberts.

  • Nice video!

  • Did Judge Roberts screw up the oath intentionally or accidentially?

Either way Judge Roberts is a douchbag!

  • Comment removed

  • it does not matter. The constitution says only: "I do solomnly Swear" even the name of the president to be or president elect is NOT required. So it's ok

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the clarification!

  • Funny polish joke about Obama:

    How many balls has Obama?

    Oba (both) ma (has) :D

  • harry truman had no middle name the s was added when his political carrer started

  • his parents must've been too lazy to give a middle name

  • It was our wonderful Conservative Chief Justice's mistake, not his. Jesus. Ignorant moron.

  • Notice how the guy asks "So help you god" instead of saying So help me god, for him to repeat.

  • He did it again in the re-taking.

  • Very interesting. I wouldn't trust him if I where Obama.

  • If any of you have time, look for a video of LBJ taking the oath as VP in 1961 and as President in 1965. Also anyone remember how Dennis Hastert mangled the oath he gave Cheney in 2005?

  • What a shame to see how these great men were able to flawlessly take this sacred oath of office up until both obama and roberts look like bungling idiots trying to execute and otherwise simple act, and obama first important act as commander in chief. Hopefully its not a premonition of things to come under obama.

  • yeah exactly even though the man paused in a different spot and the man READ it incorrectly to him. Obama knew the quote and knew the man had read it wrong.

  • Great video. May I have a question ? I really don't know too much of the political system of the USA, but what would happen, when the president & the vice president both dies, before the end of their term ? Who would be the "president" in that case ? And what a pity to see JFK's wife near Johnson. It was surely a hard moment for her..

  • In the event of the President and the Vice President dying, resigning or being removed from office, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (currently Nancy Pelosi) would become President.

  • If both Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden cannot be president, then it would fall upon Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house. If she cannot then it would go to the president pro temp Daniel Inoye, if he cannot, then it would go to Sect. of State Hillary Clinton. Of the top 5 people in the US government, only one is a white man.

  • Nice catch.

  • Barack Obama retook the oath of office in a private ceremony on Jan 21,2009 at the map room inside the white house. And this time the Chief Justice got the oath right without any mistakes

  • It would be nice to have a video that included former presidents and Obama's second oath.

  • If you want to be the President then you better join the Freemasons.

  • Bring back Warren Burger!

  • In 20 years I hope to be one of the many men who gets to take the oath to preserve, protect, and defend our country.

    -Future President Donald Newton

  • YES!! Are we going to have to start doing Obama-isms like we did with Bush and the others?

BTW, my favorite presidential-ism: "A Thousand points of light!"

  • woah wait...everyone's flipping out cause Roberts missed "Well and Faithfully".. well right there in the first one, FDR missed "well" too

  • Whoa, wait yourself there, codarkstar. I suggest you go read the oath of office yourself. You're way off base.

After all, if new presidents had to swear that they'd execute their presidential duties "well", half of them would end up being impeached for perjury. ;-)

  • I have a sneaking suspicion that if Obama wins reelection, he may just decide to take a page from FDR's 1933 swearing in, and entirely eliminate the Chief Justice's role as prompter, LOL.

Roosevelt probably knew, if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

  • Oops, I have to correct myself. I just heard a more complete audio of FDR's 1933 swearing in. In actuality, he was indeed prompted -- but the Chief Justice read the entire oath without pausing, and then FDR repeated the entire oath.

Hey, 39 words -- it ain't exactly rocket science.

  • And you can always have a teleprompter. They seem to help.

  • America and you, America and Me! Watch my video please. I hope you like it!

  • I'm going to guess that you're not a Democrat voter. Am I right?

  • Party affiliation has absolutely nothing to do with my comment, as I watch your video on all previous Presidents and want to cry. I hated Clinton and Nixon and Johnson. The coup d'etat was successful in 1963 in Dallas. We lost our country then. Somehow young people need to study the facts and stop being led to the slaughter like this.

  • "Roberts 'fluffed' these lines because in his heart this psychological slip was the only way to handle his own guilt."

Unbelievable! You're quite wrong, hymnsing. Roberts is 100% on board with the NWO conspiracy. I was there for his Skull & Crossbones hazing, his Freemasons induction, his Council on Foreign Relations initiation, and his Girl Scouts... err, ah... OK, we won't go there.

Why don't you join us, hymnsing? Comrade Obama says we can always use more pilots for the black helicopters.

  • Crazy people are awesome. Don't ever change!

  • lol, i watched the thing at school live but i guess i couldn't hear him blunder when he talked since everyone was talking.

  • he didn't blunder, he was letting revie warren correct himself. feeble attempt to make him not swear in properly. he's not a natural born citizen by definition, so whats up with that?

  • lol it's like Roberts is asking Obama "so help you God?"

  • Oh god, Hillary looks like a salt shaker.

  • what does that mean?

  • shouldve rehearsed

  • They did, but the Chief Justice decided that he was gonna go without the oath in front of him.

  • I was quite exited at first when you showed both of Truman's Oathes of Office but you didn't show LBJ's '65 Oath of Office, which I think you should have. The oath he took on Air Force One Takes away from the rest of the film, if you show it you should have shown all of them, including; Ike's 2, Nixon's other oath, etc..

Cool initial Truman Video though, I hadn't seen that one & I am a Presidential Hisory Junky, as well as:

    Caffine, Poppy's dang do I love POPPYs,lol

    Thanks Cool Vid

  • I wanted the video to show the 'moment' they became President. I put on both of Truman's because they didn't record sound for his first one. Also, YouTube limits videos to a maximum of 11 minutes, so all the oaths since 1933 wouldnt have fitted anyway.

  • Truman was done under other circumstances, mainly it being a WAR going on during that time..... It was called WII. and they needed him fast in the oval office, to give orders to strike Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

  • They had a Wii back then? Damn, and here i was thinking it was a next-gen console.

  • LOL! Weirdo...no offense, even I laughed...

  • I see you changed the date for Nixon. Everyone was giving you crap for the last video. Good job! Didn't think the new one would be out this fast.

  • Awesome, go Obama ^_^ !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how come theres no audi for the first truman one

  • They didn't record any.
