  • Go New York Giants!! R.I.P. Maurice Gibb.

  • good decent people hardworking dedicated and fantastic singers who deserve alot more respect than they get what they dont know about music you could write on a stamp

  • What a classic! My favorite pre Saturday Night Fever Bee Gees song.

  • One of my favorite songs by them!!

  • ahhh the mdinight special. great music. thats why i wanna go to the 70s

  • Great song!!! tn

  • @jeanethe1 Oh yes! Nice music from The Bee Gees. They were a great pop and disco group from the '70's. But it didn't matter that they were a disco group. Their music was so nice and great and it will live forever and ever-Amen.

  • Man I played the hell out of this album! This is still my fave by them along with Lonely Nights Lonely Days. From ACDC to Earth Wind & Fire I just loved so much of the music of the eclectic 70s. Great stuff man. Maurice had some great straight ahead rockers which always made me wonder what he would have sounded like in a solo career. Hard to imagine Robin could pass which would leave only one brother left! Loved Midnight Special but even better were Concert & Rock Concert! Thanks for sharing!

  • I love these guys, but to me, Maurice was the greatest of all! Miss you!

  • to Robin - good thoughts and be well !

  • Robin, prayers are with you. Thank you so much ... to

you and your brothers ... for decades of fantastic music. Everyone has their favorites and Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' are 2 of my favorites; but I really loved all of your songs from the 70s. In the 80s I loved "One." Your songs/hits in the 70s bring me back to a time a time full of happy memories, my high school years.

  • The best to you Robin. what good is all about in music. z.

  • Prayers and good health Robin.

  • No lip synching here! this is the real deal

  • Robin Gibb - we're all thinking of you and wishing you well.

  • this song is so good. the way it just come in is so tuff

  • i love the music vid stayin alive this one rocks to

  • Nobody can deny that the the Bee Gees are one of the most talented groups that ever played music. They are so talented that they transcend stardom. They go beyind that into Superstardom!!! Every time I see them perform I am awestruck!!

  • I wish I could meet Robin & Barry in person someday.

  • wow this song takes me back when i was a kid, thx for the post !

  • Man! They were great. Love this song. Love the Bee Gees!

  • I can see bashing them for the disco stuff. But this is an incredibly well-structured and sharply performed pop song. And no lip-synching or dubbed in instruments. It was rare back then for musical acts to actually play and sing on TV shows.

  • IM BARRY EFFIN GIBB

  • robin's voice...golden voice..

  • why does Robin cover his ear during his part?

  • @nothingleft777 It helps singers to hear themselves better so that they can hit the note right. that is why the singers have ear phones now days...

  • @nothingleft777 It was before they invented the inner ear device to help singers to hear themselves so that they wouldn't go off key. Play some music rather loud and cover your ear and sing to check out what I mean... :) Robin sang very different harmonies so he had to keep track of his pitch.

  • why is the host wearing a bra? hahaha

  • flawless performance

  • IM BARRY EFFING GIBB.

  • Oh yeah, this is just about them at their best. Their harmonies were always great. It's a strong song.

  • The Bee Gee`s were in a class by themselves

  • This has been 1 of my favorites for a Long time. Haven't heard it in yrs till now.

    Unreal the memories.

  • I watched an interview with Maurice, he said he could not sing falsette and he only did high harmonies. He is greatly missed!!!

  • @RandyandCindy225 I think I saw the interview you're referring to, and I don't know that Maurice ever said he COULDN'T sing falsetto, just that he DIDN'T. The thing about 'Nights on Broadway' (and most of their other songs going forward) is that they used multi-tracking when they recorded it in the studio (meaning one person could sing overlapping parts), which presented a problem when the song was performed live. Here, Maurice is definitely singing the falsetto part (or lip-synching to Barry).

  • @hshinault No this is totally live and Maurice is doing the part at the end not lip synching at all. obviously someone had to take the part. Maurice could have probably taken Barry's lower part at the end with Barry doing the ad libs at the end but Maurice did it instead. It is obvious this is different than the studio version

  • Robyn has the best voice ever!! I love to hear anything with him. Barry and Maurice of course are great!

  • Couldn't find the long amp cords Ha!.... Great Tune!

  • Robin INVENTED the 'Elaine dance' .

  • Never stopped loving them. Never will.

  • Here we ARE:... this is a classical one, no more words but THANK YOU.

  • 2:40 Robin doing the Elaine dance from Seinfeld.

  • @pazure HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH .. great pick up :-)

  • Fuck me , it was Maurice who provided the falsetto towards the end of the song. Way to go , Maurice! And that was 1975 before the disco hits!

  • @yeoldcap In this concert Maurice indeed did the falsetto, however on the album version it was Barry. This was the track where he discovered the falsetto voice.

  • I really like the music of the Bee Gees but I think they are 3 impossibly egotistical dip-wads. I saw them in person at the Forum, in L.A., in December, 1976. It was their last live show for many years. The "Brothers Johnson" (get it?), a bunch of no-talent bozos, opened the show. Their lead singer had 6 baby raccoon tails hanging from each shoulder. The Bee Gees opened their set with this song, with a mirror ball. It was great. They literally grabbed each other's ass for the rest of the show.

  • the one who could hit the high notes, they're is a name for that style of singing, does anybody know what it is called

  • @IrrepressibleGuile Falsetto.

  • @theoriginalbadbob thanks.

  • Crazy good, crazy three part harmonies, and muscianship.

  • yea Bee Gees were a all around great group, known for their awesome harmonies.Don't listen to the haters in the 80's.I love their music,it will stand the test of time.

  • flavorina i love you

  • The Barry Gibb Show is funny

  • The Bee Gees sounds better live than most studio bands - this is one band with universal appeal ...

  • Listen to the baseline Maurice is laying down - Pure freakin' GOLD baby!

  • At one time they were known for having the most songs to hit the top 10 (not sure if at the same time or lifetime).

This song is amazing with headphones.

  • They have sooooo many realy nice songs. Love the music they made.

  • TALKIN' IT UP!!! ON THE BARRY GIBB TALK SHOW!!!

  • @TheDarthEddie I'm Barry F-ing Gibb

  • this song has been in my head all day for some reason. anyway, this video is quite impressive. these guys were for real. i never knew.

  • @pedsed ... never too late to discover how talented the Brothers Gibb are /were. Their harmonies cannot be duplicated or imitated, and Barry is strong a lead singer as anyone needs. One of the best bands of all time, how can it be denied?

  • Love this because we get to see Mo show off his falsetto!

  • ビージーズ最高ファンキー優秀曲~ブロードウェイの夜~1975これまた懐かしいヘレン・レディー、彼女のテレビショウにて

  • this is a great song, bee gees wrote some classic stuff, this would be a good song for a heavy band to re do,

  • the heart and soul of Superbird43. This song is like walking in greatness.

anyone who has something special can appreciate this song. when i lived

in Portland Maine when I was Younger. i heard this song and my whole body

would light up. My girlfriend used to cry when she heard this song. To this day

this song would always take me home to Portland Maine. The Bee Gees are

in a world by themselves and absolutely beyond amazing

  • Bee Gees at their absolute best .... this is a kick ass song ..... brilliant.!!!!!!!!

  • this is their best song.

  • Huh. So this is the tune on The Barry Gibb Talk Show on SNL... Nice.

  • onecrazyzat51: I was sailing across Lake Michigan 4th of July weekend 1975. Most got seasick bit I did not, so I volunteered togo below deck and get sweaters, binoculars, drinks. The captain "came about" suddenly and I was throw hard against a wall. One day after 6 wks in ICU, my girlfriend brought me a radio and first song heard was "Nights on Broadway". It uplifted my spirits so I could get up and walk again!

  • There is an episode of Seinfeld where Elaine is dancing. Now I know where the inspiration for that scene came from.

  • Talkin' it up, on the Barry Gibb Talk Show!

  • Back when celebrities still had real teeth! ;) One of my FAVORITE songs of all TIME! I LOVE the Bee Gees, and was really heartbroken about Maurice. Also really disappointed there was so little press on his death or accomplishments at the time. This brings me back to when I was 12 and had such amazing dreams.

  • Their music is becoming real timeless pop classic...Great band !

  • They truly are talented musicians

  • "IM BARRY EFFING GIBB"

  • Do you think we all get to be Barry Gibb in heaven?

  • lol sorry for spam, didnt update, thot i wasnt posting

  • this seems to be the only version where we get to see maurice sing his falsetto, other versions ommit it or they bring in back-up singers for it... just flat out amazing how good they were live... make every day count because none of us get out alive :(

  • this seems to be the only version where we get to see maurice sing his falsetto, other versions ommit it or they bring in back-up singers for it... just flat out amazing how good they were live... sux we all have to die

  • this seems to be the only version where we get to see maurice sing his falsetto, other versions ommit it or they bring in back-up singers for it

  • I just googled this video as Im watching the One Night Only dvd and wanted to watch the whole song = )

  • They used to record down the street from my house when I was a kid (Criteria Studios). I ran into them a couple of times, they were really nice guys, even invited me in once to play pinball.

  • Ahhh listenig this song i feel the magic of the good music

  • Ahhh listenig this song i feel the magic of the good music

  • @msdemos Pretty sure it's set in the present. I think a recent guest was Rachel Maddow. And I think Barry almost karate chopped the CEO of nokia a while ago... Hilarious!!!

  • Barry is not HOT;;;;; ";HES MORE THAN HOT"

Hes OUT OF THIS WORLD ! !

  • Man, if a group could capture the lyrics, voice and musicianship today. The end of the rainbow would be where they walked.

  • wow great song i wish i was there

  • is this where Nichole337 gets her inspiration from? TEEETTH

  • "Talkin it up...on the Barry Gibb TALK SHOW...talkin 'bout ISSUES...talkin' 'bout REAL IMPORTANT ISSUES!!!"

  • @imperialprobedroid

I was never a huge Jimmy Fallon fan, but that particular SNL bit with Justin Timberlake helped win me over, and never failed to put a smile on my face....a silly, somewhat odd concept but one that, for whatever reason, just worked !

What I could never figure out though, was why did it just include Barry and Robin, but no Maurice ?

I know he passed away, but isn't this piece supposed to be set 'back in the day' (given their 70's suits and hair) ?

    Anybody know ?

  • OMG at :40 at first I thought Robin was naked! Lmao!

  • What fantastic harmony!

  • oh, I saw this the night it came on in 1975, on tv, of course. I was already listening to it on 45 round the clock! I NEED the mellow they give. They are the ultimate sound. I remain...crushed & loving them--

  • Simply classic

  • I'm old (69) but still 26 in my mind. In 1975, I laid in a hispital bed for several weeks not knowing if I would survive, A friend brought me a radio and first song I heard was "Nights on Broadway". It was then that I knew I'd survive. Happy time!

  • @flavorina I'm 65 and I say if we still love these guys we're still young. In Feb. 1964 I was in a car wreck that nearly killed me. I was in a Hospital for 4 months and in a full body cast later on. The Bee Gees were just one of hundred Rock groups that kept me going. Live On and Love On !

  • @flavorina Lots of peace for you**

  • @flavorina im 23

  • I just realize that Maurice was a bass player.. As you all know, at the 90s he played guitar and keyboard while singing..

  • BeeGees.. I cant say anything about this family and band.. Just.. The greatest memory was brought to me by this band.. :)

  • Que voces Dios mio , voces de ángeles . Gracias por tanta música maravillosa .

  • Uh, pre date disco by 40 years? They were right in it at this point. Saturday Night Fever came right after this. Hated disco, but somehow the BG;s made it a bit better by the strong vocals and class.

  • @wpollock1 Finally a true Bee Gees fan. Most people only know them from disco and Saturday Night Fever, they started performng when they were children. What most people dont give them credit for is how many songs they wrote for other artists. They are a talented bunch of guys. Maurice, and Andy will be missed. I wonder what more they could have offered to us if they hadn't passed.

  • @jwk290 69 is not old

  • @jwk290 : much more! :o}

  • Notice the funk and soun music tinge in this song. And they call them a "Disco" Band . They pre date Disco by over 40 yrs.

  • For the Biggs..

  • Barry Gibb is so hot!

  • @sum12see. I was thinking the dame thing! He even did the hitchhiker thumb I think! JLD flat stole his dance!

  • I like how they slowed it down a little. Seems like most times they played this live they would speed it up too fast and I hate that.

  • Awesome singers!!!

  • Super

  • There talkin it up on the barry gibb talk show.

  • LOVE this song and the Brothers Gibb- it's hard to find video of them actually singing live, too. I love how the harmony comes through and hearing Robin's voice clearly in the bridges. I love everything about the 70s - Carpenters, Bee Gees, Elton John, Chicago - today's music just doesn't cut it because it's mostly churned out crap with no real instruments nor artful songwriting.

  • say what you want......they were great.

  • When I was in high school ('75 - '79) I rejected anything resembling disco and made fun of the Bee Gees. Ten years ago I was looking for some music with lots of bass to test a speaker system. I "discovered" this song and have been a fan ever since.

My favorite is 'I Started A Joke'. It's as good as anything ever recorded by the Beatles.

  • @trekohio.....interesting point, I've been picking up 70's dance/disco/soul compilations and listening properly to arrangements & actual musicianship...gotta tell you some of the bass playing really kicks....chic, sister sledge..even going back to Love Train by the O Jays..just listen to that bass playing. As for Nights-to me a real fave-better than Jive talkin' and most anything that came after.

  • @MrByrdbath Just a quiz - do you actually know what instrument was playing the bass part in this song?

  • @melomane2010......good question...just had a listen on cd...mmmm...I'd say a synth keyboard or maybe a fuzz bass played through a keyboard....def not like actual bass, say on SOS Band-Just be good to me(long version)....let me know.

  • @MrByrdbath It's a Minimoog. You can see the second keyboardist playing it at the start of the song.

  • @melomane2010.....Yep, was geting close with synth/keyboard. Great "healthy" exercise-def beats some of the bitchin' & insults I've seen on these pages. Anyway cool song...still have this and Jive Talkin on single/45.

  • @MrByrdbath I'd say in addition to the Minimoog, some of the bass (in the bridge particularly) actually came from Maurice on his Fender - it wasn't entirely there for show, but added accents here and there. This is a live band playing extremely complex music with a feel and on top of it all, singing with the most gorgeously powerful 3 part harmonies ever tied to a song of this type. You can say Motown et. al., but the Bee Gees, on this tune, brought some serious vocal power and prowess.

  • @MrByrdbath Oh, and it's my pleasure to have polite discussion with you. It's pretty simple, really - you can choose to be an ass given the anonymity of the internet, or you can choose to take the higher road. Most people make the easier, uglier choice.

  • @melomane2010....thanks, so maybe a "silver" star to me, and yes as I listened to cd(not vid) did feel the mid section did have actual bass.....anyway still recommend u have a listen to Just be good to me SOS Band - 9 min. version for some hot bass - the phat type.

  • This was my music once upon a time.

  • Bottom line: they wrote great songs. period.

  • might be my favorite Bee Gees tune, brings back some great memories

  • Robin looked good for once., look he had broad shoulders and muscles??? I'm shocked!

  • this didn't age well I'm afraid...

  • tFor the longest time, I thought it went "Livin' it up, on the nights on broadway"

  • This was pre- Saturday Night Fever when they considered themselves R&B.

  • still lovin the 70's......

  • I remember as a kid all the disco craze with the Bee Gees always at the top of the charts but it wasn't until I watched this that I realized what an incredible live talent they were also. They sound amazing in this video.

  • Yes, your absolutely correct. Maurice does actually do the Falsetto on "Nights On Broadway" and a fine job he does at that. Actually it's the most I ever heard Maurice sing in a song out of all of their songs over the years. Maurice seemed to be more of the instrument player and he always kinda laid back in the singing department. Although he did contribute backing vocals on most songs, he was rarely, if ever a lead on songs. He did do a wonderful job on "Nights on Broadway" RIP Maurice

  • Talking it up on the barry gibb talk show.

  • Without a doubt the Bee Gee's greatest achievement musically was "Nights on Broadway" with Barry's Falsetto voice coupled with Robin's wavering voice and Maurice's high notes, this song has it all coupled together in an incredible beat, this was true magic that catapulted them to super stardom.

  • @joevs21001 Maurice actually did the falsetto voice. Barry started doing falsetto after this song, hence the high lead vocals on later songs like "NIght Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love".

  • "On the Barry Gibb Talk Show" Talk to your brother Robin. I'm Barry f***ing Gibb!

  • @rockabillycat1954 *Robin* No I don't wanna!

  • WHERE ARE MY SKATES?

  • All I can say is awesome!! What harmony!!! Bring back disco and the Bee Jees...these are my childhood tunes!!!! :D

  • High school daze music.

  • This is when music was done right. No effects,no lip syncing,no bullshit, just great live music by a great band .And to think, they didn't even hit their prime yet!!

  • Excellent tune sung by the ever brilliant Bee Gee's

  • I like how Maurice sings falsetto at the end.

  • six people have no taste in music.....

....singing them love songs, singing them straight to the heart songs....

    love it!

  • @rhiann0n1 Six people are idiots.

  • And THAT, children, is what we called music in the 70's. Powerful stuff,

  • Great video! Thanks so much for posting!

  • How could you not like this song???? A timeless classic. I guess I will always be a 70's girl!!!

  • first time Barry used his high pitch voice, the falsetto, all because the producer asked"can you give me somethint else at the end, something surprising"and Barry reached a voice he did nit know he had haha;-) later it,s all they,re known for for many years, sad!!!

  • @Choefoe

This is their 1st song, where the falsetto came in...

    The producer was Arif Mardin.

But the real pearl of "Main Course" was another song:

Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)-A real classic!

  • @Deltamaster1965 Love that song too;-) it,s in my BeeGees list

  • Consider...this was BEFORE Saturday Night Fever. These guys had been huge for years and then did their magnus opus.

  • They don't have music like this anymore "well I had to follow you...though you did not want me to...that won't stop my loving you...I can't stay away..."

They had real warmth and desire for women.

  • @999marydoll --Yup, they were great. I posted earlier that I got injured sailing across Lake Michigan in 1975. I laid in the hospital for weeks and listened to this song -- it revived me. I lived in Chicago then and my two surgeons listened to the Bee Gees with me. It made what would have been a sad time into a good one. It's amazing what music can do!

  • it doesn't get any better than this... Bee Gees = Beatles

  • Great. I think back when I was a soldier in Denmark and meet my vife.Thanks.Love you. Leif 99.

  • This song will always remind me of midnight bowling in 1975.

  • Barry's voice is a powerhouse.

  • In 75 when I was eleven I taped this from the radio and played it a lot.Thought I would let you know.

  • I so in love with this song! And Barry looks really hot!!

  • with sales toppins 2005 million albums they are one of the greatet recording acts of all time. One of a kind.

  • I'm sure that this is the best bg's 70's live song ever... stunning...

  • I had a giant size of Barry on my wall. Pretended I was married to him . lol. I loved their music. This video brings back memories. I miss them all together.

  • Now I know were Elaine from Sienfeld got her Little Kicks Dance from...LOL!!! But seriously, what a great tune, and timeless classic...What a talented family....

  • Here we are.... Talking politics.... and the issues of the day..... ;-)

  • Here we are, in a room full of strangers Discussing politics and the issues of the day And I want to talk to you Though you may not want me to I'm still gonna talk to you I don't care what you say Talking it up on the Barry Gibb Talk Show We're talking 'bout issues We're talking 'bout really important issues Talking it up on the Barry Gibb Talk Show We're checking out politics In this crazy, crazy to-wn Oh yeah, oh yeah SNL
  • @Drunksonic I LOVE THAT CLIP!!! I must watch it now. THANK YOU.

  • Robin kicks ass here! you go Robin!!

  • Love this song and love Helen Reddy too so that was an added bonus.

  • Love this song and love Helen Reddy too so that was an added bonus

  • With all respect to the Jacksons perhaps the most musically talented family ever.....as Michael was the majority of the talent and these guys were equals and that's not even factoring in Andy Gibb.....
