Obvious race choice is obvious. We want to see races that are debate able. Jeez it wouldn't be able to call itself a 40k game without spahce mahrens in it. We want to see nids or dark eldar or necrons, because you know, we want to see the races that are less obvious. Still, I would by an expansion if it added nids, but I want them in from the start. We were left out of DoW for to long, and I won't want to see them pit every race but us in again.
Maybe I'm just jaded but I'm just not anticipating much. The company hasn't released anything amazing, the last Warhammer MMO had allot of potential, but lacked accessibility and a fine coat of polish. The 40k genre is refreshing though, as I think were all tired of killing bandits with fireballs. I do love the franchise though, so I think the watchful eyes of the Inquisition will force me to keep playing for at least a few months.
I think the technically weaker players (guardsmen etc) might be able to have npc's with them as a unit or something, as marines were all alone or in small groups in that vid

If this game wants to follow the fore in any way, shape or form there will not be a traditional "order vs disorder" set up, as that is just not the way the 40k universe works.
As far as the Imperium is concerned if it isn't human it is either a Xeno, a Mutant or a Heretic, and the correct response upon encountering either of them is to purge it.
@SuperRetroZombie That's not entirely true. The Eldar and Imperium have worked together several times before to defeat the Necron or Chaos Marines. The Tau seem to get into fights with the latter two because they are extremely friendly expansionists, but if someone was incurring in their homelands I can see them turning to the lesser of two evils. Imperium, Eldar & Tau VS Chaos, Orks, & Dark Eldar or maybe Tyranid / Necron. Dark Eldar are the more relate-able of the three so that's my bet.

Thats kind of what I see happening if its a traditional mmo setting (with TPS controls obviously). Tech Priests will specialize in (basically) spell casting. Space Marines will have a lot of abilities related to their equipment and battle armor. Then the Guard will most likely have and AI squad (basically pets).

I'm not sure if this trailer is fully legit....I've seen parts of these clips on other games/stuff about 40k on youtube. The game is legit, but this trailer doesn't seem to be so.
Shooting and slashing will be mostly directional, like a 3rd person shooter/action game - not single target like most MMOs. Imagine how epic it will be to be an Imperial Guardsman on a platform of a burning skyscraper arcology, firing rounds indiscriminately into the mass of enemy players and npcs below. I think we've all been dreaming of technology to progress and allow for a game that captures the feeling that 40K art has.

I play Space Wolves TT (Puppies to those that find humor in the name) and I think thus far they haven't utterly ruined it. As far as why there seem to be Eldar working on the Order side and Orks on Chaos side, I think they're going too into Light/Dark or Order/Chaos, as done in Warhammer Fantasy Online. So it's wait and see for me. Thus far, it's looking decent overall, not sure I'll play. Hoping to.

I have a feeling people who are guardsmen are gonna be raped. It looks pretty cool, but when I heard about a 40k MMO I was hoping for something like Dark Heresy. There are gonna be more Space Marines than actually exist in the 40k world. In my opinion a million Acolytes of the Inquisition would make a lot more sense.
@jpddude I think you're underestimating how many are going to join the banner of Chaos, especially if they let people play characters dedicated to one of the four Chaos gods, or all four like the Word Bearers.
@jpddude It looks like Black Templars will be the chosen chapter for an MMO. Looking at their lore, that's the perfect choice for a chapter in such a game.
The Black Templars are highly disorganized, don't follow the codex at all, and no one knows what their true numbers are, save that its probably 3 times the recommended number (again, its still very disorganized). As they are on the constant move with their crusades, they simply pick up recruits and skip the scout phase altogether.
@TheTrueHolyDarkness Still...it might be weird seeing more Marines than there are guardsmen. But the fact that you can be a techpriest will probably curb a bit of the problem. :)
Not only would it allow an all female selection that would be nearly on par with the all male one but fluff wise make sense as the Ecclesiarchy would be sending its own delegates and armed forces to make sure that the Adeptus Ministorum isn't left out of what would surely affect them sooner or later.
Besides, someone needs to keep watch on those mutant Astartes and those Heretical Ad-Mech.

@pnelad14 I don't see any mention of a "good vs. evil" system in the medusa campaign, only that all armes had their own agendas. And there are plenty of games with more than 2 factions. Planetside, DaoC, EVE, it can work, and it makes the game more creative. And who wants Eldar seers dancing on imperial mailboxes, and out of all the chapters, the black templars are allying with eldar?....dont think so.

Like you said they have their own agendas, doesn't that mean they will simply work with eaach other towards their own ends? They don't have to be all loving with their allies, they could just be a means to an end, nothing more.
So IF we are going to have two factions (I suppose Order and Disorder *does a lousy imitation of vomiting*) then at LEAST they should allow us to BEAT your allies accordingly (like open PvP even when you are basically allies, Ork can smash a heretic and a Space Marine can fill some Eldar with lead.) @Soothfish Meh, honestly, the Guard appeals to me more. Space Marines are cool and all but the Guard is just your average Joe with a t-shirt and a flashlight staring down horrors fresh from the Eye of Terror. That takes balls (and a Commisar with a loaded pistol behind you)

@HueyOoeyKablooey You are right. It would be impossible to implement. It would make no sense to play the "life" of something which has no free will or personality. It would only work if you could play a Ctan or Norn queen and summon the hordes. Then you'd have to balance that properly. Impossible task.

I play Space Wolves TT (Puppies to those that find humor in the name) and I think thus far they haven't utterly ruined it. As far as why there seem to be Eldar working on the Order side and Orks on Chaos side, I think they're going too into Light/Dark or Order/Chaos, as done in Warhammer Fantasy Online. So it's wait and see for me. Thus far, it's looking decent overall, not sure I'll play. Hoping to.

I have a feeling people who are guardsmen are gonna be raped. It looks pretty cool, but when I heard about a 40k MMO I was hoping for something like Dark Heresy. There are gonna be more Space Marines than actually exist in the 40k world. In my opinion a million Acolytes of the Inquisition would make a lot more sense.

@jpddude It looks like Black Templars will be the chosen chapter for an MMO. Looking at their lore, that's the perfect choice for a chapter in such a game.
The Black Templars are highly disorganized, don't follow the codex at all, and no one knows what their true numbers are, save that its probably 3 times the recommended number (again, its still very disorganized). As they are on the constant move with their crusades, they simply pick up recruits and skip the scout phase altogether.

What, no Adepta Sororitas; Sisters of Battle?
Not only would it allow an all female selection that would be nearly on par with the all male one but fluff wise make sense as the Ecclesiarchy would be sending its own delegates and armed forces to make sure that the Adeptus Ministorum isn't left out of what would surely affect them sooner or later.
Besides, someone needs to keep watch on those mutant Astartes and those Heretical Ad-Mech.

So far, Vigil has confirmed a two faction system in DMO...But it is not too late. Go to the Vigil Games facebook page if you are a fan of the lore and want the true Warhammer 40k scene to shine.

@gobgoble Every one who doesn't want a 2 faction system needs their heads testing! A 2 faction system is fluffy, need I remind you of the medusa campaign? Which games workshop did. Also do you know if you had it your way, balance (or should I say lack off) would fuck the game right up! There is no-doubt that over 60-70 percent of people who play this are going to play iconic races (orks,chaos,eldar,IoM) and if players like me want to play Necrons how do you think we would stand up to them?...

@pnelad14 I don't see any mention of a "good vs. evil" system in the medusa campaign, only that all armes had their own agendas. And there are plenty of games with more than 2 factions. Planetside, DaoC, EVE, it can work, and it makes the game more creative. And who wants Eldar seers dancing on imperial mailboxes, and out of all the chapters, the black templars are allying with eldar?....dont think so.

So IF we are going to have two factions (I suppose Order and Disorder *does a lousy imitation of vomiting*) then at LEAST they should allow us to BEAT your allies accordingly (like open PvP even when you are basically allies, Ork can smash a heretic and a Space Marine can fill some Eldar with lead.) However, if they continue with the "lalala-we-are-holding-hands-&-dancing-with-our-adversaries-because-we-are-in-the-same-faction" kind of thig... Holy Throne of Terra! Emperor inspire them!

I think i know who would most likely ally wtih them and like wise. the Eldar dont get me wrong imperium and eldar hate each other. but the Imperium has been known to work togeather with the Eldar from time to time and if Gabriel is leading the Space marines we will most likely see Farseer Macha leading the eldar due to Gabriel and the Farseer are on good terms

Now I would like to say that making a MMO based on WH40k is VERY ungrateful job, because if you screw up you would be lynched, cursed and made a laughing stock of by the veteran Warhammer 40k TT players and gaming enthusiast altogether. BUT if you do the job right (every race an ALIANCE FOR THEMSELVES! So if you have Orks, Imperium of Man, Chaos, Eldars, Dark Eldars, Necrons, Tau, Tyranids you will have 8 alliances. No cross mingling) you would be praised & glorified like the Emperor himself!!!
