  • Whoever added the final fantasy 8 themes to the video needs to never do it again, and if it was Neph, then he needs to be sued for using copyrighted music.

  • @omegaheartless "Whoever added the final fantasy 8 themes to the video needs to never do it again"

Guilty as charged. The guy's a loon, and I wanted something equally "out there" as background music for his portions of the video... I realise not everyone will like it, and I get it.

  • @FSAthe1st Oh no no, it was just goofy and, I'm quite a fan for that particular game, so I thought it was rather weird that it was there.

  • @FSAthe1st The BGM from the game was one of the few things that made me finish that game.

Also, it's rather sad that Nephilimbraaaaaains lacks the ability to act like an adult and not make such asinine ad-homonym attacks and actually research the bullshit that he spouts and actually try to understand or, at the very least, acknowledge what his opponents say instead of plugging his ears and calling bullshit.

  • It's actually difficult for me to listen to NephilimFree because of how incoherent he is. I have to listen to segments a couple times to try and understand what he's getting at. I hope I'm not the only one.

  • Well I guess in a way we are lucky there is so many different beliefs that the creationist fight among themselves or it would either be like Iran and Iraq that kill or fire educators that do not mention Allah did it,or they would not only be blowing up clinics in the USA they would target colleges and science facilities.

  • I know this is off topic but about species,I do not remember where I heard it from but supposedly there are species that we still do not know of.How does science go about discovering these"new species"where do they start looking and what species or kind do they have for comparison if any.Do they start at something random they happen to come across or do they know what a new species (from research of course)should be?

  • Correction: I enjoy all the final fantasy music in here.

  • I like the chocobo music

  • 2 hours well spent.

    Excellent video.

  • Outstanding video. It's about time that somebody took the time and effort to thoroughly debunk nephilimfree in this way.

It's obvious that he talks rubbish but the sheer number of logical fallacies needed pointing out step by step just to show exactly how poorly he does it.

What always gets me is the sheer number of assertions that he makes without evidence, 'just can't happen' and phrases like that.

  • Let us crown NephilimFree as the King of the Dunning–Kruger effect.

  • Biggest complaint: The parts where you're talking are very quiet, and then suddenly when the first "Hovind chart" comes up you play EXTREMELY loud music. Can you make the audio throughout your video closer to the same decibel level next time please?

  • @AylinIsAwesome Fair criticism. My apologies, I should have toned down the music a bit more.

  • Why does my college biology book use the terms, "microevolution" and "macroevolution"???

  • @platypus4242 "Why does my college biology book use the terms, "microevolution" and "macroevolution"???"

Questions generally only need one of these "?".

Further, a college textbook is NOT a Peer-Reviewed Journal.

  • FSAthe1st, He's trying to steal all your ?s as a reprisal for speakers of British English hording all the Us, thus leaving us unable to use them in words such as "harbor".

  • (as a side note, it appears I am unable to spell hoarding properly without 2 cups of coffee)

  • @JustAnotherMutant But... But-But... I want my ?'s back!

  • @FSAthe1st I understand, but it seems unsettling to me that these terms have creeped their way into educational systems.

  • @platypus4242 I don't like it either... But it seems to make it easier for educators to distinguish between within-species evolution and speciation.

FWIW I never heard the terms Macro and Micro in any of my Biology lessons when I attended school in the UK.

  • @FSAthe1st

I don't really see the problem with even peer reviewed journals using the terms "macro-" and "micro-evolution", as long as the terms are well-defined and explained. It is only the creationist assumption that there is some qualitative difference between the two, after all; biologists are well aware that they are both effects resulting from the same causal mechanism: evolution.

  • @XGralgrathor I think it's precisely because the Creationists tend to misuse the terms, and because they stem from the same biological process, that I don't like their use in the public domain... But they are used in the public domain and so we're kind of stuck with it.

  • @FSAthe1st

« they are used in the public domain »

Actually, I just did a quick search on google scholar, and it would seem that the term 'macro-evolution' is not unheard of in peer reviewed publications.

I understand the objections based on creationist misrepresentations, but on the other hand, I don't think the scientific community should be bothered with what a bunch of tinfoil hat wearing fruitcakes are saying.

BTW - a two-hour video! How long did you spend assembling it!?

  • @XGralgrathor "Actually, I just did a quick search on google scholar, and it would seem that the term 'macro-evolution' is not unheard of in peer reviewed publications."

In that case, I stand corrected. Given that they are no longer really meaningful from a genetics point of view, should they really still be used?

"a two-hour video! How long did you spend assembling it!?"

Not as long as you might expect. I had some time to kill the last few weeks. It was maybe 2-3 hours a day, maybe a week.

  • @FSAthe1st

« should they really still be used? »

Like all jargon, I assume they're terms used to abbreviate elaborate notions. Mind you, I've seen the term 'macro-evolution' used in various different contexts so far, not all of them indicating evolution including speciation.

Anyway, I've long ago given up on the issue. These days, I merely caution the creationist to specify whether he means the emergence of new species, or the emergence of major taxa. After all, both are evidenced

  • @XGralgrathor "These days, I merely caution the creationist to specify whether he means the emergence of new species, or the emergence of major taxa. After all, both are evidenced"

I'll have to remember that question if I find myself dealing with a Creationist in the future. It's a good point.

  • @FSAthe1st

BTW2, Re-encoding and uploading might be a nice idea next time you plan on hitting town or visiting family. It would be appreciated, at least by me. Of course, the video is amusing enough as it is... I think NF must be the original inspiration for Poe's Law.

  • @XGralgrathor " Re-encoding and uploading might be a nice idea next time you plan on hitting town or visiting family."

Unfortunately that's not possible now. I deleted the project files after uploading the video and I've just realised I have since emptied the trash file. I also deleted the copy that was on my Laptop so I have no original copy anymore.

    Otherwise I would consider it.

  • @FSAthe1st

Ah. I hate it when that happens. I deleted an entire VM dedicated to a systems integration project I was working on the other week. And of course, backups are for pussies - so I didn't have any.

  • @XGralgrathor "And of course, backups are for pussies-"

Yeah... That attitude has cost me many a project I've worked on in the past... You'd think I'd learn by now.

  • I like how creationists bring up the "genealogy" of Jesus. A genealogy, which cover's the lineage of Joseph and not Mary. Depending on the "interpretation" of the New Testament, Jesus and Joseph were not actually blood related.

  • such is the double edged sword of the internet. before the internet, nephillimfree would be stuck in his house masturbating to porno magazines. now, people spend their time making videos to refute what this complete imbecile has to say. i understand why it needs to be done, but it's sad, nonetheless.

  • Yo dawg, I heard you like critique videos. So we put a critique video inside a video critiquing a critique video, so you can see someone getting critiqued while critiquing a critique.

    I miss ExtantDodo and cdk007

  • @whybag not sure what you mean. Can you explain?

  • Comment removed

  • @FSAthe1st

Simply upload the last minute of the video as "title" 1.5 ? or something close to that

    Uploading is always a pain,

  • This guy really thinks that the Earth's human population was 3 billion 150 years ago? Or 1.5 billion 300 years ago? The Earth's human population was 3 million only about 50 years ago... We can just look back a little bit to see that this is WAY off.

  • @theguruofreason sorry, 3 billion*

  • Cont..

Most importantly, I like that you mention in your video that the likes of Nephi are beyond hope. It's important for people to know that videos like this are not targeted toward nutjobs like him, but toward the countless silent masses who will watch, and learn.

    Thumbs up.

  • After watching this video, a few thoughts: Nephi is not only the Crown Prince of the Dunning-Kruger effect, he is the King of the ad hominem attack. It is painfully clear that he makes his videos for the sole purpose of giving some tiny bit of meaning to his otherwise empty life, and yes, he is a serial liar. I love the expression "word salad." Listening to his own music in his video had the gradual effect of making him the brunt of his own ridicule.

  • Is Nefaglimfree still going on here?

  • I always enjoy your videos.

That said, I think this one is more palatable in small doses.

It really is hard to sit through Nephillimfrees lectures. Mostly because there is so much quote-mining and misrepresentation of science that it's hard to begin refuting him (even you missed a few of his glaring BS points), but also because he is incredibly difficult to listen to. Just so creepy.

I may finish watching this, but it will take me a few days.

  • I approve of the Final Fantasy tunes used, but equally saddened by being reminded that a Final Fantasy 7 remake will probably never happen.

  • Why did ExtantDodo stop their videos? They were my initiation to the science vs. anti-science "debates" (term used loosely) on YouTube.

  • @CSHallo "Why did ExtantDodo stop their videos?"

I've really no idea. I'd like to know though. It seems they just disappeared one day.

I like their format (which is why I use it here in a fashion). It's a shame. I was looking forward to more Hovindism videos from them too.

  • @FSAthe1st I'm 90% sure it was because they got too busy with grad school. i was in touch with the main guy since he first started... used to proofread his slides for grammar and spelling before they went public. Nice guy.

  • @lennyhipp ...last i heard from him, i think they were also in the middle of some lawsuit with the EFF (on their side of course!) about some DMCA matters

  • @FSAthe1st Maybe they wanted to take more time concentrating on their doctorates than YouTube videos.

  • @redlion7277 Very likely... In fact you might all be right. I haven't gotten a college degree (yet; I'm considering going back to get one though it is beyond my means financially at the moment) but I have enough experience with the university system to know it takes a lot of your time. I can only imagine just how much more intense it is to go through post-grad study, especially at Ph.D level.

  • @FSAthe1st as a guess because they got there qualifications and went their separate ways with them.

  • @ScubaSctimpy That's also possible... But I think it's less likely, since either one of them could keep the channel going if they wished. I'm leaning toward the both of them being busy.

  • "Otherwise you will notice a significant degradation in the quality of the material from NephilimFree."

I realize you were referring to video quality, but I still had a good laugh. I didn't think Nephi's material could sink any lower. ;)

  • @photodube When you say it like that... It's pretty funny!

And yeah his material really has gotten worse since this video was originally made.

  • All you need to do is put on a lab coat, and everybody thinks you're a scientist!

  • @Akira625 Yup... Mr Pendleton got that trick from Kent Hovind ;-)

  • @Akira625 It's how I get away with most of the things I do. Toss a lab coat on and shout "For science!" when anyone questions what you're doing. One example of things I might need to excuse is why I'm wearing nothing but a lab coat.

  • Well, made it through the first hour. I don't think I can take any more. Nephy simply keeps missing the points. He's remarkably consistent at it too.

But yea. Can't handle another strawman right now.

  • YES! a feature length video from FSAthe1st! this will be fun!

  • @Paxmax The CA of What The Bleep looks like it'll be longer... And continuing in multiple parts given that the original video is over 2 hours long. Hope you've got plenty of popcorn ;-)

  • @FSAthe1st Don't worry, I'm ontop of that problem! at the moment I'm laughing at Nephis aquifiers!

  • This is a master class of fallacious arguments. He manages to drill just about every kind of fallacy. This would be a great tool for teachers to use in the classroom to teach critical thinking. It is so loaded with fallacies, students would understand all of them by the end, lol.

  • It really offends me that he uses the Chocobo theme. >_>

  • @Gaawachan Sorry... That is my fault. I wanted something that suggested how cuckoo this guy is and it breaks up the monotony of the video by introducing music to various sections.

  • @FSAthe1st Oh, good! For a while there I thought I actually had some common interest with... that... x_x

  • 2 Hours? DangI like a Good Nephy bashing as much as the next guy but 2 hours is a tad much

  • As if Nephilimfree cares about Fair Use or censorship. And YouTube will always side with the good Christian instead of the GODLESS atheist Commie!

  • Looking very good.

As for how the tower of babel goes, the people building the tower of Babel don't actually think, or want, to get in to heaven. It is said that they wanted to build a tower so tall so as to pierce the heavens (figure of speech) and glorify themselves with a tower so tall.

This 3rd generation computer console music is deeply irritating. I hope it stops soon.

  • @oliverscott2007 How do you know it was a "(figure of speech)"? :)

  • @juggaloryan3

    I don't actually.

There's nothing in the bible I read about the idea of humans being able to break in to heaven. I feel that skeptics have sexed up the reference, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

  • @oliverscott2007 Do you mean nothing in the bible, other than the tower of babel story where it explicitly says thats what people were trying to do?

  • @juggaloryan3

I checked again, and it says 'let us make a tower that will reach up in to heaven.'

I don't know, it seems a stretch to suggest they thought they could actually break in to and occupy heaven. If it said that it would be a better and more humorous story, but it appears not to.

  • @oliverscott2007 I am kind of confused now. If I said I was going to build a bridge that reached into your house, would I not be breaking into your house? Please tell me where I am mistaken with my line of thinking, because it seems to me that if you read it literally (which I dont know why you would not) then that is exactly what is going on there.

  • @happysplodie Yeah... It takes 4 times as much time to debunk bullshit as it does to spout it... Nephy's original video series was 50 minutes long to begin with.
