  • I think everyone should start calling them Magwa.....this is how you say it....Ma (like the MO in molly)...g (like in gas)....wa (like the WA in wash)...Magwa!!!!

Its a word that says it all...friendly, intellegent, huge(MEGA), funny, and cute!!!

but MAGWA is for female...ROGWA is for males!!!

  • ...Ancient postcards? 1900-1950 is far from ancient

  • What a wonderful breed. Too bad we have seen two in the last two weeks show up at our shelter - one of them in terrible shape, a victim of hoarder behavior by its owner.

    Nice video!

  • i got 1 hes soo cute his name is fuzz and hes 3 LOVE YOU fuzz heres a apple :)

  • I love these dogs I have one of my own his name is Lukas and he is the BEST dog I've ever had he is so gentle with my 3 year old & he is the best protector. Luv U LUKAS:)

  • Go tell it on the Mountain...

  • The music makes you want to dance with a Pyrenees

  • My daughter brought her week old baby over. I was fasinated by the way my PYR took so much interest in the baby. She sniffed and sniffer and nose butted the baby. And growled at my granddog (my daughters Corgi) when he got too close to the baby. She tolerates the baby, and maybe wants to protect him, but not the granddog. LOL

  • Thank-you for this film. We are new owners of a rescued Great Pyr-- had him only 2 weeks and he is such a love, protective of us already!

  • Beautiful! it's sonice tosee someone who doesn't think Pyrs have tobe all white! These photos are proof! I am SO glad Ifound this video! Best breed in the world hands DOWN!

  • I have 2 male Saint Pyrenards, the Great Pyrenees and the Saint Bernard, they were originally bred in the 1600's with a Bernard from St Bernards Parish famous Bernards and a Pyrnesees from the Pyrenees Mts, they were called Lionguarts for a town whose crest was a Lion and the Burgermiester wanted a dog that Looked like a lion, he then several years later bred in a different breed which no one is sure of what it was.

  • i have raised my 3 pyrs to pull and used them in a forth of july parade with a miniature home built buckboard as my daughter would drive the wagon i would jog beside the wagon and parade watchers would throw us water i have very long hair which i keep wet and use as a radiator to cool me in hot weather.for three days i had diarea[heat exaustion] my pyres recoverd after 1 day.we took home a trophy that meg is still proud of.3 pyrs will kill a brown bear and yet meg learned to walk behind one

  • I have a lovely female Great Pyrenees --- she's so gentle yet quite a loud barker which is something I wanted. I live alone and feel more secure knowing she's keeping the wolves from the door.

  • I have a black Great Pyrenees. (Only black one I've ever seen, even in pictures.) Such a great dog. Gentle, smart, loyal, obedient, cute. Best dog ever. =)

  • we have had two litters and have had several blacks, they have white feet and some other white markings. we thought another dog was involved but this is interesting to hear you have one too... do you know the lines on your dog? could you send a picture for us?

  • would these be a good companion dog?i want a livestock dog that can protect me and my house yet i want one that is a good companion also, and are they strong?i want to make sure i get a strong dog.they look like big dogs or is that just all the fur?oh and i might start travelling alot in hot AND cold weather so does this breed have stamina and can it adapt to different climates?

  • Yes, the Great Pyrenees is a perfect companion dog. They would sit in you lap if they were small enough. Although be careful with children because the GP is a lot bigger than it thinks it is. You might want to et a good litter because of their size their back legs can be weak. So be aware of that. And yes, they are very big dogs. It would be best to have them in cold weather. If in the heat I would advise having a cool place for them to lie down.

  • oooh okbut my uncle had 2 GP's and they lived in the outback of australia which is desert,he said there coat reflects alot of the sunlight so not as much gets to there body.

  • Yeah it's sort of like an air conditioning unit for the GP. All I know is that my boys are WAY less active during the summer time and all they wanna do is lie down in the garage.

  • lol ok

  • My great Pyrenees, Andy, loved this video, in fact at time index 1:34 is what my Andy looks like exactly. Thanks for the vid.

  • wow my dog has a history!!!!! go gp's

  • great pyrrnees are a wonderful breed and that video was great.

  • Great video.

Great Pyrenees are the most beautiful and local friends a person can have, thank you.

  • Than you, merci, what a great video! You are really making me want to go and get a new Pyr...

  • Great video!!! Love it

  • A great tribute to a great dog! Our Pyr was a stray, so it was great to see similar dogs that were breed standard. He showed up 2 weeks before my son was born, funny since I told my husband that when our son was older I wanted to get a Pyr pup to grow up with him. God must have sent him though as he has been a great sense of security during the late night feedings and during the day while my husband is at work!

  • Wow! That is a miracle indeed. What a wonderful occurence!

  • @jollyranger83 A dog os a gift from god

  • they lock like Tornjak and bucovina, intresting?

  • Wonderful video! Thank you for posting.

We have a 10 year old Pyr who is lovable, loyal and the favorite of all the other 5 dogs and 2 cats! There's nothing like a Great Pyranese!

  • I had a Pyrennes for over 13 years what a dog

I have a Novia Scotia Toller who is great. Somehow though, once you have a Pyrennes the others just dont ever measure up

  • so true

  • I have eight Great Pyrenees. We started out with two but then they mated and the female, BabyGirl, got pregnant and had six of them, Otto, Milli, Zoe, Roxanne, Castilian, and Skittles. By the time we got the pups spayed, we got too attached to them. So now we have eight. The BabyGirl and Rufus are five and the pups are four.

  • wonderful Video. Wonderful dogs. I have 3 Great Pyrenees to guard my foals. Great to see these historical pictures!

  • Schitterende foto's van je hondjes.

    :) Bedankt voor het sharen!

  • Leuke vid.

  • This was a wonderful video, thank you for sharing!

I have two Pyr's, Luna & Pilot. My "babies" are 140 pounds each now, at 1 1/2 years of age. There's not an ounce of fat on them, as they are working dogs, guarding my goats.

Amazing how athletic they are. Great gentle white giants. Love those Pryenees!

  • Thank you for this wonderful tape!Every time I get to it,i will vote 5 stars for it!!!!!!

  • Your video is the best I've seen on this site! Fantastic Pyr history....They're the best, most intelligent dogs in the world. Yes, I share my life with one ~ 10 year old "Bear"...He loves everyone, but would give his life for his family. He is more honest and loyal than any "human" friend. My cats (Bombay & Maine Coon) adore him, too!

Keep up the good work! Hope to see more~~~ CC

  • great video!!!5 stars!

  • you sure you didn't accidentally included some pics of Pyrenean Mastiff (with the mask) in the vid? Nice video though!

  • Could be possible. Don't forget that in the past they used all the Pyrenean Dogs without looking for a "pure" breed. But it is a fact that in the past the Great Pyrenees usually had more mask than nowadays.

W#hat you see is a collection of postcards from the beginning of the 20th century till about 1950.

  • You're definitely right, and P-mastiff is originally a mix between pyrenean and mastiff, and if the photos are that old, no wonder the similarity. I have myself a pyrenean mastiff here in Finland and it's always great to see some history of the breed. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

  • dig the music...what is it? :)

  • the song is called: viens sur la montagne

    the singer is Marie Laforet

It's a french version of the song: go tell it to the mountains

    © 1964 Disque Festival

  • lol that's so damn cute! Nice work on the vid :):)

  • thank you!!!

  • i'm instantly in love w/ the music. very nice although i don't understand it. the video is also amazing. nice work!

  • viens sur la montagne - Marie Laforet

(it's a translation of the traditional Go Tell It To The Mountains)

  • Great Five Star Video of the history of Great Pyrenees dogs. Wonderful!
