Yes - Mr. Callenbach was/is brilliant. In the most down-to-earth, practical, substantive sort of way. I knew this as soon as I began to read "Ecotopia" about 8 years ago. Was astonished by his vision, his foresight, etc. Perceived "Ecotopia" as a handbook by which we could dramatically begin to live differently (and vastly better!) starting ...tomorrow! How I regret I did not know of his (work) decades ago - and how regretful that so few of us still do - or are so resistant.
and the host sits there looking very much...uhh...yeah...what the hell is this jocosely looking guy babbling about? and after the show he probably got out of the studio, hopped into his full-size v8 buick, drove off and forgot the whole thing.
Yeah, pretty strange how these characters in the 1980s were so far "ahead of their time." Now that the world is really changing as they predicted, we need their advice and ability to imagine the near future that's to come next...
