congrats to Dr. mainzer she is such an intelligent woman ..love this video
but what really worries me is that this video has such a few viewsit so sad to see that people are more interested about stupid things rather than SCIENCE. New generations gotta learn about how important is knowledge in our lives. XD
"Corn syrup and ammonia" -- lol, this clip reminds me so much of the 'poisonous popsicles' me and my friends made when we were young. Also, look at 01:50 - gotta love her childlike enthusiasm!
She amazez me! She knows about everyting! Imagine that all (or at least bit more) women were that inteligent and interested in science rather than stupid tv shows and such. I'd love to live in that world! :D
After mixing it up, the dry ice flashfreezes it to make it a solid 'comet'. As you can see it actually looks like a comet although dr. mainzers comet also contains some stuff not readily found in the solar system. But generally it is a pretty close match.
This was by far the COOLEST thing I have ever seen on The Universe. And there are lots and lots of cool things on that show, as we all know. Nice work, Dr. Mainzer!
lol i've never meet anyone in the science field that looks like that
what a bad turn of luck for her to be beautiful and a astrophysicist. that must really be a pain for her to deal with. lol shes more attractive then most models i've seen. we will be seeing more of her in these tv shows i think
I'm glad the people at The Universe asked you to remove those creepy comments. Anyway, I must say, I found this very informative and interesting, and I am a huge fan of The Universe, along with Michio Kaku, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and yes, Amy Mainzer. I will definitely not shy I way from saying she's beautiful... but its not just because she looks it, its because she is (or so it would seem) extremely intelligent. And that is beauty at its finest.
I wonder if comets could be used as interplanetary fuel stations. If a space craft had a fuel leak and patched, I am wondering if they could do electrolisys on water on one of those "dirty snowballs."
A great instructional demonstration which is both fascinating as well as informative .... Thanks for posting and look forward to more..... Have a "Stellar" year.
Producers of "the universe"have asked me to remove all inapropriate comments on these clips, and i have complied. Please do not post dumb comments that are offensive to dr. mainzer or i will have to close the comments section. Thank you for your consideration.

Awesome. So simple and yet so fascinating, teachers in schools everywhere should be like that.

guys, what does dr. Mainzer add after the dirt?
I can only hear something like "corn syrup", but... it's not it, right?
pepemanshon 2 years ago
YES its corn syrup,
- Water (most is made out of H²O, not liquid but ice)
- dirt (minerals, iron, other 'contaminants')
- corn syrup (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and aminoacids)
- windowcleaner (ammonia mostly but smells less evil)
- Dry Ice (very cold carbon dioxide)

I like her approach. Despite of the fact she is beautiful, she is also very comprehensive and interactive

Would love to see her on the Big Bang Theory as a guest star. I'm sure the writers could make it very funny.

No kidding. She'd be perfect as a guest star. :)

yeah would be great, i think sheldon would think she ie below his level
that would make great comedy, but i think she wouldnt accept, she want to be respected as a scientist
