I got sprayed by FOX for certification with a Z-pattern across the face (streamer).

3 second activation time and I just stepped in place and used tactical breathing until it wore off. Neither me or my partner used any water. Although my partner was on the verge of freaking out.

I was a little disappointed in this spray given its internet reputation. Then again, OC doesn't affect me as much as most people. If you ask me I would rather be sprayed with OC than CS. CS tear gas hurt me more.

I didn't mind getting sprayed with the old stuff (PepperMace 5.5% OC), sure it burned and hurt like hell to try to open your eyes, but I could fight through it (it took about 20 seconds to kick in on me) and do the obstacle course. Believe me, I couldn't resist it. If I made it look easy, let me assure you it wasn't. It took me about 2 and a half hours to decontaminate, and my eyes were infected for a week afterwards.

This stuff instantly burns and makes your eyes slam closed. If you can't see, you are at a major disadvantage in a fight, never mind the fact that it burns like hell and you can't really concentrate on anything except trying to relieve the pain. One of the most painful experiences of my life.

This is a very good non lethal option. It may not totally incapacitate in all cases but you should be able to remove yourself from the attacker. That being said I am very confident in this stopping an attacker.

That is called a bullet, pepper spray may not completely neutralize an attacker but Fox will disable them enough to get away from them. It's good for times/ places that you can't have a firearm.

I wouldn't even keep my eyes open if I expected to be squirted with water from a squirt gun... would you? It's a natural protective reaction. However, I DID make sure to blink really big to get the stuff in my eyes.

It doesn't matter one way or the other. The stuff is more or less instantly incapacitating. I had to walk away from the impact point just to get out of the cloud of mist so I could breathe, and after I blinked, I couldn't open my eyes anymore. All I saw was orange.

I've sprayed someone at point blank range with CN tear gas with their eyes wide open. The guy screamed, covered his face and fell on the ground. right before he fell down, he yelled "argg.. the F**cker maced me." his friend tried to move in to help him, so i sprayed him too. 2 months later I had to spray him again. A few months after that, I had to warn him off with my .45 ACP. Never saw him again after that.

So yeah, the element of surprise is very important in deploying OC.

I bought a few cans of DPS spray(stream and cone)for testing. Its junk compared to Fox or Sabre Red. It might have a 1.0 crc level, but the quality of OC they use must be a low grade. I fired the stream against a piece of glass in my garage and then walked over to it and wiped a huge drop onto my finger and then licked it. It hardly burned compared to Fox/Sabre. I then repeated the procedure and same results.  I fired the cone spray and it gagged me, but NOTHING like Fox/Sabre.

To top it off, both the stream units were half filled. All 4 cans had an odor of OC even before they were fired, indicating they were leaking. They didn't come out with nearly the same pressure/speed as the Sabre Red DPS. J&L Products wouldn't return my emails/calls about returning them either.

I noticed it says "Stream" on the side of the can, but it looks like a tight fog when it comes out. I also noticed the nozzle has the tighter stream type looking nozzle inserted. Fox stream products are usually a heavy "splatter" stream.

Fox 5.3 is for me! The aerosol effect makes this stuff super wicked! The pain is one thing but the choking and gagging feeling make it MUCH worse. I tried it on myself from about 3 feet and I actually did throw up in the end (I REALLY shouldn't have eaten beforehand : ) I also felt like I could not breathe at all for about 15 minutes and it was scary as hell. Even though I knew full well I would not suffocate, the panic response doesn't care about facts! The test sucked, but I feel safer now : )

I tried Fox 5.3 cone fog on myself from about 3 feet and aside from the insane "OMG my face has sulfuric acid on it!" pain, I found that because it was aerosol, my nasal cavities and throat also felt like they were going to burn away, mucus poured from my nose and mouth, I genuinely felt like I couldn't breathe (even though I could in reality :) and I was gagging so bad that I actually puked! Even the people standing around me were coughing and gagging for about 20 minutes after. Fox is wicked!

Some police agencies use this spray, yes. But that does not mean civilians cannot own it! Check your local laws. Most states allow pepper spray, some do not, and some allow only a certain level of concentration and/or quantity.

I sprayed myself with Fox 5.3 also just to make SURE it was powerful enough to save my life. It really feels like someone has thrown acid in your face. Your nasal cavaties burn like you just had them cauterized, you feel like you are choking and can't breathe and are completely blind for a few minutes miniumum. and the severe burning all over the the surface of your face is not removed in any way by water. the second the water is taken away from the skin the burning is back with a vengeance!

Doof, You should try the Sabre Red DPS (non H2O) spray. The Fox Labs has a CRC level of .66, while the Sabre Red DPS has a 1.33 CRC. The Sabre Red DPS has twice the active ingredient of the Fox Labs spray. I think its the carrier in the Fox that makes it so effective. I think either one is enough. I own both, but im afriad to spray myself with either!

I've done some crazy stuff like this with co-workers. I've been sprayed with - MSI 5.5% Peppermace, MSI CS/OC, Mace Pepper Gel, CS tear gas, CN Mace and Freeze+P CS/OC. I dont know if I want to try Fox 5.3, even though I personally carry it (either Fox or DPS OC). Of the sprays i've been hit with MSI CS/OC and Freeze+P were the worst. You should try something like Freeze+P and make a video. Cool Vid!

Ha. It was the stream. I'm quite sure the cone fog would have worked quicker, but this stuff was pretty much instant either way. Instant involuntary lacrimation. I couldn't see, and could only open my eyes for short periods. It really worked fast, and was hard to breathe in the mist created on impact. Water was amazing, and all I felt like doing was swimming afterward. Running helped a little. Any flowing air or water seems to help.
