My dad is part-owner of a small engineering firm with about 50 engineers. They work all around the world. His firm as a a small office in UAE. I was down there and then we enter Saudi Arabia. I understand why people love the Arabian Desert. It is a very fascinated culture. The people is a bit fucked up but if you live in a compound it is all cool. II would really like to try in Saudi Arabia. UAE is not so exotic and fascinating as Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, if your mind is closed and you do not respect anything that is different from yourself, you fail to see the beauty in anything other than yourself.
I suggest you stop running to Saudi looking for "opportunities" and "financial gain" tax free if you hate it there so much. It just doesn't make sense. Every where you go in the Earth is not going to cater to "you" and "your lifestyle". Don't you get that?
I do not understand why "some" Americans go to Saudi and then complain about the culture. If what drove you to go to Saudi was "money" than I suppose you were willing to subject yourself to "Saudi culture" long enough to receive "Saudi money".
The other thing I don't understand is why Americans (not all) fail to understand diversity. Americans believe they hold "The Standard" to everything and expect all other societies to live accordingly otherwise they are "this and that". Grow up!!!
i stayed the entire past year in Jeddah and i gotta say wat a dump! Im frm America and ive lived there 13 and 3 years in England and 1 in Jeddah can u imagine last December it rained just a bit and the entire city was flooded and Saudi society is literally fucked up Men cannot enter malls without women smoking is legal everywhere, women cannot drive or must wear this black dress that covers them frm head to toe and lastly racism is everywhere so in the end i do NOT recommend anyone to go there!

I wish to do hijrah to Saudia Arabia in sha Allah in the next few yrs I was born in England have lived here for 30 odd yrs my family migrated from Pakistan in the 60s i wonder if the stereotypical view is still around In Saudia were they look down on non Arabs. Jeddah's a very advanced city where many areas where women are in fact not required to fully cover their face as well as some beaches where they can dress in anyway they want. I don't think the old parts of Jeddah plays a good representation of the whole city itself. I think you should have took your camera to the rest of the city, not the oldest settlement you could find

Well I am a female and I live in Jeddah.. my friends and I walk with our heads uncovered and we wear makeup and perfume .. we have more rights and fun than males do here acutally and I have lived 8 years in Europe and another 8 in North Africa and now I have been here for the past 13 years.. this is the only place I found respect for females of all the countries I have lived and traveled to :) I love it here and what you said is not the full truth ;)

I wish to do hijrah to Saudia Arabia in sha Allah in the next few yrs I was born in England have lived here for 30 odd yrs my family migrated from Pakistan in the 60s i wonder if the stereotypical view is still around In Saudia were they look down on non Arabs. That is one disappointment I have in these sort of places.

Jeddah's a very advanced city where many areas where women are in fact not required to fully cover their face as well as some beaches where they can dress in anyway they want. I don't think the old parts of Jeddah plays a good representation of the whole city itself. I think you should have took your camera to the rest of the city, not the oldest settlement you could find

Here specially in Jeddah the government provide all type of necessitates to males and females to make them successful in education ,media ,sports etc.
For example the first woman team in soccer in Saudia Arabia is in Jeddah.

Well I am a female and I live in Jeddah.. my friends and I walk with our heads uncovered and we wear makeup and perfume .. we have more rights and fun than males do here acutally and I have lived 8 years in Europe and another 8 in North Africa and now I have been here for the past 13 years.. this is the only place I found respect for females of all the countries I have lived and traveled to :) I love it here and what you said is not the full truth ;)

If you don't like it, I think there are plenty of international airports that could safely transport you to where you feel better. Saudi Arabia has rules, just like any sovereign nation and doesn't have to justify it to you, just like Saudis aren't offered a justification for "random" selection in European and American airports. You don't have to like the rules; you just have to follow them if you are there.

The elections were held in three stages: the first on 10 February around the capital city of Riyadh, the second in the east and southwest on 3 March, and the third, in the north, on 21 April. There were approx 1,800 municipal councilors with primarily consultative tasks nationwide in KSA. U said that men & women alike couldn't vote. I'm not saying it had n e drastic change on the constitution of Saudi Arabia but it was a step nevertheless. & bout women driving let me REPEAT myself 4 the third time 4 u! It is only a matter of time & is inevitable that women will b driving in KSA. Besides most Saudi women think that it's a PRIVILEGE being driven around by hired chauffeur!

Women voted. 2 Saudi women were among 12 successful candidates voted onto the board of Jeddah's chamber of commerce and industry. Seventeen women stood for seats on the board. It is only a matter of time & is inevitable that women will b driving in KSA. Besides most Saudi women think that it's a novelty being driven around by hired chauffeur. These drivers have the opportunity 2 make more money than they would in their country of origin. Besides Saudi women r driven by their male relatives.

For me It's not a big deal i don't think they really need it . And Teenagers including me are driving like crazy here . the usually thing we do is picking my friends and just driving to no where and sometimes for chasing girls for real. so if we find a women driving it will cause a big problem and maybe an accident.

I was watching the tallest buildings in the world, specifically from Dubai, Arabe Emirats and the architectures in Saudi Arabia many from England, europe were proposing in building the tallest building in the world in Jedda, how true is that, cause they are building the tallest in Kuwait, 1001 m a km. high, but the one in Jeddah will be 1.6 km. one mile high how true is that??? can someone verefy that for me thanks

Oooookay, clearly these comments are just gona raise my blood pressure, and I can't correct each one of them. So, I'll go on record saying that I am a proud female citizen of Jeddah KSA <3 and women are neither opressed nor put down here, not by our culture and CERTAINLY not by our religion. Islam is a wonderful religion, wonderful is a huge understatement, there are no words to describe. It honours women and holds them high in society and household. I suggest looking into Islam and Saudi Arabia

White Muslima, we're not talking about the poor, we're n talking about Saudi women in general. Besides the fact that they choose to be driven around, sure there are women who want to drive themselves, but that is porhibited in Islam, but all good muslim women would choose to be driven around by a Mahram (blood relative, who they CANNOT marry) at the same time women voting is something that is permissable to do, but since when did women make the decision in a household.

I am guessing you are one of the visitors who has been given a chance to visit the city, i lived between jed and Manchester/UK..enjoying living in Jed more.. driver, car, low cost of living, no Tax as the gov pays it, good income, nice helpful people, saved alot of money as I don't spend alot in nightclubs or opera or any attraction and secured my family's future more, my kids are growing up in a more controled way, i saved for their univ...etc..give me a break..

what??! who said that men and women can vote right now?? If you mean the Municipal Council half of the council are selected by the government and they extended the council for a year. In addition, women did not vote in that election.
