she is a great talented artist to say she writes bland music is just too harsh it is very very difficult to write a song yet alone a hit or whatever I think it's great she takes risk..that is what a TRUE artist is..to see the world as they see it and interpret it as they see fit and not fitting a mold YOU ROCK JEWEL and any artist for that matter!!!

Jewel really changed her image from the days of her first album. Her album, This Way, was better fit to be performed and produced by a Hollywood hack like J.Lo or Beyonce. This new music also has way too much emphasis on commercial success. She needs to return to her roots, and start by listening to Laura Veirs, Linda Draper, and Elvis Perkins.

i think the problem is not with her trying to be commercial. i think the problem is she just forgot how to write good songs. she's lost it. her first album was nothing short of genus but this is just bland unoriginal crap.

Fair point, but to meet or surpass the genius of her first album is a difficult feat for any artist. Perhaps you're right, though, everything that came after is, as you say, bland unoriginal crap.

I saw her a few years ago on a show celebrating female "pop" artists. When Jewel came out dressed in a celeb-gown I almost fell off my chair. Ugh.

most of the songs on her more recent albums had already been wrote before even pieces of you.

of course she cant beat a 12x platinum album but she is just experimenting with new styles ie. country. Goodbye Alice in Wonderland is the closest shes come to POY. That is a fantastic album by any standards. Admittedly, This Way and Perfectly Clear were quite weak but all good artists have relatively poor albums.
