I was looking for the songs that came out in Dancing with Danger's 1994 movie with Cheryl Ladd., and I found i-tunes has them . but I'm not sure that they are the same ones as in the movie...Anyone know? Thank You !
heard this song before, and now again seeing the trailer for an oldish film, Pieces of April, the song is stuck in my head - which is not a bad thing. How old is the song?
The ghoulish nature of this *tic* is remarkable. Hearkens to Sam Phillips' pernicious and so-called legendary anger. How much juxtaposition really is necessary, anyway? I'm convinced the pain is real. The substance of the music is so lacidaisical as to be shocking in its own right. Personally, witnessing her cuddling with a teddy-bear would be sufficiently cathartic.
I like the songs on this record but almost all of them have a Beatles Revolver-ish feel. This is a dilemma because I don't like overtly derivative music. Someone on this thread should tell me I should buy it anyway :)
Sam Phillips is one of a handful of truly amazing singer/ songwriters performing today. I had the priviledge of seeing her perform live a couple of years ago and it remains one of the best concerts I've ever seen. She is a brilliant and original voice in todays music.
She is right she needs God not the political church.......the church was rather cruel to her at times, they are not perfect....but God is mightier than people, we cant trust people only God
Well thats for you Leslie should you read this.....Ive been praying for you for 15 years now
I know Leslie and she is soooo sweet....I knew her in her Contempory Christian years...Last talked to her in her "The Turning" days .......wish she would come back home
..Oh and by not being good songwriters I am talking melody not so much lyrics. Melody is everything unless it's Jewel sappy kind. I love the hate mail .. keep it coming.
(cont) Merchant, Laura Nyro , Sarah McClaughlin , Stevie Nicks and then the well runs dry. And those I name only wrote a few great songs. The women I know all love Amy Winehouse and Bjork (wretched) and Joni Michell who once could write way back in the 60s. Hey sorry for this rant.
YIKES!! What a creepy Vid! Like some Unholy collaboration between Joel Peter Witkin & Helmut Newton. Here's poor Sam, singing about how she needs love,
in a Freakin' MORGUE( I Guess!) and singin' to a Cadaver (!!?). What a twisted mind the Director must have. Great tune.... shame the sound is so tinny.
You are right about the tinny sound though but it's Sam's best song. She's not singing to a cadaver .. just you vivid imagination got the best of you.
Sorry man but I guess I didn't watch the vid closely or it seems not at all? All I remember is 10 years ago I bought this lousy CD with only this one great song and every song started and middled and ended with a Beatlesque buzz which is OK but not one other song was nearly as good. I really think women can't write. I could name 100 great male composers of pop or rock or classical or whatnot and where are the women. Go back to Carole King at the Brill Bldg or Chrissy Hydne or Natalie
I saw this vid in the early 90's and fell in love with Sam Phillips. This is still one of my all time favorite videos and singers....she is beautiful and talented
Loved the song long before I saw the video. The more I see the video the more meaningful it becomes. So many layers and layers of symbolism that it's hard to catch it the first few times!
@bluetulip333 hello bluetulip, I've watched this video a few times and I'd love to hear what you make of the symbolism, as you seem to have got so much out of it, I'd like to understand it better myself and so, hope you don't mind if I ask you to share your insights with me.

She was better when she was doing hillbilly music in the early 1990's. She is probably the best yodeler in AMerica today. Keith Kahn is probably the best yodeler in the world today. But, if he is playing a gig where he is required to drink a glass of stout or porter, he goes into a farting jag. Sam always said that if you are going to drink beer, don't yodel, you'll crap your pants and not hit those high G's and before you know it, your singing for irish funerals, "God love you ...
She is one of my favorite singers...not a classic great voice but a cool singer....like Dylan and Neil Yoiunfg it isnt about technique...itts about the song and the emotion...and Martini's and Bikini's is a great pop album full of great hooks.....
I was drawn to Sam's voice from this song, years ago, the very first time I heard it I liked her pleasing and haunting voice. The band Sixpenonthericher did a version of the song , It was not nearly as pleasing to the ears as Sam Phillips voice, her style completes that song .
@britanniaboy This is exactly where i first heard this song. They used to play the long version of this commercial in theatres way back in like 2002. It took me years to find out the song was used in the commercial.
I have been searching for this song ever after Down To You starring Freddie Prinze Jr & Julia Styles showed in the movies! Owing to old reruns, imdb and U XttraVid, I finally found it after 8 years.
Lol it took you eight years to find this song, the3spirit? You should have just typed a line from the song into Google or Yahoo, and it works every time.
I only held the melody in my head, but not the words. And humming into a mike wasn't really an option back then (although on some music sites one can even do that today! :D). I wasn't completely actively looking for it. Let's just leave it at that.
Thanks for posting this vid. I love Sam and loved her when she was Leslie, too. Too bad that she and T-bone divorced.
Interesting fact is she acted in Die Hard with a Vengeance. I guess you could call it acting -- they made her a mute assassin. I guess her high voice didn't quite fit what they were going for.
One thing that I have always thought about Sam, even when she was know in the Christian world as leslie. She is always about 7-10 years ahead of the curve. Her album Cruel Inventions sounds like something that you would hear now-a-days on the radio. Always ahead of the curve.
Because this song shows how she went from the safety of "religious rock" into the masses and scored something that is eternal...his song came along at a very diffucult time of my life and made me re-think Jesus and my relationship with him. SHE IS CONTEMORARY AND SWEET....CHUCK
Did you even listen to the lyrics? "I need God not the political church" is turning away from God? This is a person who want to seek truth and see God for who he really is. Christian industry paints God as a white blue-eyed militant republican (John Mccain)....hmmm I wonder why those who seek truth cannot stand Christian music industry.
Sam has not become distant from God the Father or God the Son (Jesus). In this very song, she states, I need God, not the political church." She still worships the God who is revealed in the Incarnation. She is simply not part of the "Christian music machine" anymore.
I had never seen this. I knew about her and this song but never saw the video. I didn't know she was so pretty! Wow! Wonder why never became more famous.
Not enough money for her??? Her Christian music sold far more than her secular music ever did. She was dropped by her secular record company because one cd sold less than 30,000 copies. She left Christian music because she felt stifled and dissatisfied with the direction her record company was moving her.
Does anyone know what happened to the clip of her singing this song on Conan O'Brian show? I saw it on Youtibe last year but it is not there anymore-I really liked her singing this song live.

maybe coming back to a better understanding of who she really is - search for truth - not judgement from others - accountability through mercy.
Who does want a political church - love speaks volumes - love takes faith and can take us through eternity...

For a non talented little tramp who is a poser, she pretends she's a celebrity, but
if she was, she wouldn't be such a loser.
Sam, has an extremely smelly body, only fags
and people who have had their olfactory senses
destroyed, like Sam. Sam, once got the award
for being the 'best shit hanky'.
Sam is a degenerate, who when she isn't killing kittens and puppies, is killing butterflies, she's a real "Nazi", and the
best part, she is not even a girl, she is
a cross dressing, fart!
