@otacs2 BOTH OF ROC AND PRC ARE TWINS BROTHER HOOD OF THE SAME PARTIES FOR POWERS NOW AND THEN. NOT FOR PEOPLE, SO CALLED "FREE" IS ENSLAVE, "DEMOCRACY" IS ONLY ONE PARTY ITSELF.
@CommunistPowers Can't really say. This is still a heavily debated subject, I can only say that it is a series of unfortunate events which brought upon the fall of the RoC.
@CommunistPowers Can't really give an effectiveness based on a scale, especially when the RoC military was very dissaportionate in terms of combat effectiveness. The only thing I can say is that immediately after WWII, the RoC military was still stronger than the PLA. That however did not last very long, with the American Embargo effectively crippling the RoC military and Soviets training and supplying the PLA, it was only time before the PLA became the stronger force.
@LiouTao Please. The KMT was so corrupt and ridiculous. For the US to give more money and arms into that hopeless sinkhole would have been just a waste.
Don't blame the US for everything, even though it is so in fashion nowadays...
@TheLoyalOfficer I didn't blame the US for everything, my view still stands that the US made up of at least half the reason why the mainland was lost.
Much of the KMT was corrupt, yes, however the RoC still maintained a military superiority against the PLA after WWII, it wasn't until later that the military superiority flipped and the RoC started losing battles after battles.
@LiouTao At least half of the reason? And yet you are "not blaming us"? Read what you are saying!
The KMT was a ridiculous force. They totally screwed up the war with Japan. They were too busy stealing to fight effectively - whether against Japan or against the PLA.
You need to look at YOURSELVES. YOUR PEOPLE lost China, not the Americans!!
You should thank God daily that we supported the rotten KMT at all!
@TheLoyalOfficer There are several reasons why the RoC lost mainland, it was not one. At least half of those reasons are directly attributed to the US. US Arms embargo of 1946 which was not lifted until 1948. Forced Ceasefires with the PLA despite being on the verge of victory. US agreeing with the USSR to allow Manchuria into USSR control. American support for the RoC? Historyical evidence points strongly to the contrary, the US provided little if any support to the RoC during the Civil War.
@LiouTao The KMT did not DESERVE our support! They STOLE most of the money and arms and supplies and equipment. Mao said: "The Americans are our biggest arms supplier." That's because the KMT stole and sold thousands of tons of equipment to the Communists.
How was Manchuria under USSR control? It was returned to China by the USSR after Japan surrendered.
The KMT was full of corrupt pigs. Their pathetic performance against Japan proved that.
@TheLoyalOfficer KMT corruption did not sold equipment to the PLA, and I can find no sources of Mao saying that quote. The PLA was primarily supplied by the Soviets and leftover Japanese equipment. There was no US equipment to be 'stolen' because of the embargo in 1946. USSR did not hand Manchuria back to the RoC, they stayed to allow the PLA to take refuge in Manchuria.
As for WWII, pathetic performance? As if you can do a better job? Don't talk about something you don't understand.
@LiouTao Perhaps it was Cho En Lai then that said that. Anyway, look at the Chinese Revolution documentary here on You Tube - in the last episode it says it.
And the KMT performance in WW2 was RETARDED. General Stillwell almost pulled his hair out dealing with Chiang's theiving, moronic and incompetent generals and officers. We did a much better job - we destroyed the Japanese Empire!
KMT performance in WWII retarded? Over 3 million military casualties, and you say we're retarded? We threw in everything we had at the Japanese, it is OUR troops who kept the Japanese in China. Japan's 1 million strong kwantung army, their best trained and equipped army, we're the ones who prevented them from pulling those 1 million out to fight the Americans in the Pacific, it is us who gave the Americans a chance at fighting the Japs.
@TheLoyalOfficer Stillwell was a tool, all he wanted was complete control over the NRA and have them throw themselves into a suicidal and meaningless assault at the Japanese. Chiang refused to listen to Stillwell, and got Stillwell replaced by Chennault. Stillwell pissed at losing his job starts spouting rumours and lies about Chiang and the KMT. For ten years, the NRA fought and held out against the Japanese WITHOUT American aid despite all the disadvantages, we are NOT incompetent.
@LiouTao Horrendously so! Chiang was too busy fighting Communists to attack the Japanese and his officers were too busy STEALING our aid to fight properly against them. Plus, Chiang allowed the Japs to roll right into Manchuria in 1931. He was a tool. The KMT was a joke.
Chennault hated the KMT too and complained about its corruption and hopelessness. Defeat to Mao was inevitable. Don't blame us because you sucked.
@TheLoyalOfficer Stealing aid? The United States did not provide aid until LONG after the Xi'an incident. Chiang did not allow the Japs to enter Manchuria, he had ordered Zhang Xueliang to defend Manchuria, which Zhang chose not to do.
Defeat to Mao inevitable? Several times during the Civil War the Communists could be wiped out, even after WWII, had the US not sent Marshall to China forcing ceasefires with the PLA, the Communists would be gone.
@Liou Chennault may have like Chiang, but not the decrepit KMT officials and generals around him. Again, check the doc. for the quote from Cho/Mao about the supplies. It also details the utter starvation of KMT soldiers during WW2 because of KMT officials and officers STEALING everything they could get their hands on (US, Chinese, Japanese, or from wherever.)
KMT = pathetically corrupt and ineffective force and performance. I believe the doc. is called "The Chinese Revolution 1925-1949"
@TheLoyalOfficer China in revolution 1911-1949 - that's the one. Take a look at parts 7 through 10. The quote is in there. Enjoy. Or, rather, I don't think you'll enjoy. After all, it confirms what the rest of the world knows: that the KMT sucked and was a bunch of corrupt, ineffective thieves.
@TheLoyalOfficer I watched part 8 (part 7 was useless, in fact part 8 didn't even reach the end of WWII). I don't have time to watch the whole thing, because I've to go work, I'll finish it up later today. From what I've seen so far in part 8, it's done nothing but confirm what I've already known and deduced. Only thing that I was wrong was that Stillwell was replaced by Wedemeyer, not Chennault, I got their names mixed up.
@TheLoyalOfficer And have you also missed the part where KMT officials and officers themselves were also starving as well? China was going through hyper-inflation, where the already small salaries of officials were now reduced to zero. Many officials had no choice but to resort to graft for the sake of survival. Wedemeyer himself admitted that he doubt he would be incorruptible if he had to live on the salary of a Chinese general.
@TheLoyalOfficer "The KMT was full of corrupt pigs. Their pathetic performance against Japan proved that."
The US seems to be full of corruption too. The US performance in Iraq and Afghanistan proves that. ;)
The US troops are heroes, but it seems that you are saying that the millions of Chinese killed by the Japanese were nothing. Typical American thought.
@TheLoyalOfficer "That's because the KMT stole and sold thousands of tons of equipment to the Communists."
Why would you sell equipment to the enemy? I have seen many dumb comments on youtube, this ranks with one of them. Then again, the US is sending aid to Pakistan.. and they faithfulness towards the US is not clear at best. Your statement is ironic isn't it?
@8mmzzs Exactly my point! Thank you for making it for me! Yes, just like Pakistan, our great American generosity was lost in a shit storm of incompetence and corruption in China.
@TheLoyalOfficer "The KMT were a pack of crooks. Deal with it."
And the US government too...spend and spend and spend and throw money and give out favors to benefit the few. Deal with it.
The Communists are just as corrupt. Without their big empty cities that people can't even live in, no wonder they became the 2nd largest economy in the world. If they wanted to, they can manipulate the data and become no. 1, but they are modest. The US will fall to China someday, I hope soon.
@TheLoyalOfficer Funny that nobody around the world like the US these days lmao. Blaming the US is the norm now.
Communism seemed to be powerful in the minds of people, even so, many Americans believe communist sources enough to actually support the CCP. Plus, having communist spies in the US government in the 30s-?? can help.
The US isn't really strong when fighting communism.
Korea... Vietnam... Cuba..? FAIL
The Soviets were playing dirty, while the US thought of playing it clean.
@CommunistPowers Nah, they were never BFF, especially when Chiang was in power as he doesn't listen to them. Relationship between the RoC and US were cordial at best. The Americans constantly sabotaged RoC efforts throughout the course of the Civil War. Politics isn't black and white like you think it is, it's very complicated.
Dunno, if the RoC won Huaihai, they might be able push to the Yellow river and stall the communists and try to rebuild. I'd say most likely a stalemate would happen.
@CommunistPowers That was in late 1948, when the first batches of American military equipment since the embargo reached the RoC. The RoC pooled their best Huangpu armies into the battle. The PLA was by no way underequipped, by then they were sufficiently trained and equiped by the Soviets. The PLA also had high level moles in the KMT and were able to act according to their intel. Eventually what happened was that the RoC armies were encircled, and were destroyed when they tried to break out.
@CommunistPowers They didn't lose their effectiveness because of the lack of training, it was the lack of ammunition and equipment. After WWII, the US clamped an arms embargo on the RoC and as a result, the RoC was unable to buy any ammo from anyone. They could only produce 7-8% of their necessary ammunition, so basically from then until 1948, the RoC were using what was left over from WWII and what they can salvage. They initially outperformed the CCP, but as the war dragged on, meh...
@CommunistPowers Yes, those were trained during WWII, not post-WWII. An average NRA Army has 10k-15k troops, average NRA division is 5k-6k. If you add that up, that's actually less than 39 divisions, those were probably the few divisions which were actually trained. Regardless, after WWII, the US cut all military aid and placed an arms embargo
Usually, 'aid' is free, but for the Chinese, 'aid' is sold, not given.
I can't really compare, because the US trained were Huangpu
@CommunistPowers As for US trained troops, it's probably referring to WWII and later supposedly trained troops. Per agreement, the US were to train and equip 39 RoC divisions, which was broken in 1946. The few divisions trained were not allowed to acquire ammo from the US. An arms embargo was placed on the RoC and not lifted until 1948, during those years the RoC was unable to acquire 1 round of ammo from any nation.
And BTW, 'aid' to the RoC was not 'free', all 'aid' was sold to the RoC.
@CommunistPowers You do know that the cited source for that info is the same as the one which states 4.3 billion in arms aid, right? The 4.3 billion which I just shot down?
US troops were sent to hold specific places, they were not allowed to invade communist held areas, they were all withdrawn by 1947. As for the transports, it's part of the Lend-lease agreement where RoC troops were transported to Japanese held areas to accept their surrender.
@CommunistPowers What part of an Arms Embargo do you not understand? What part of running out of ammunition do you not understand? Yes, initially The RoC did well and had the CCP on the run between 1945 and 1947, but starting in 1948, RoC was running out of ammunition, that's when the RoC started losing battles, and it was straight losses one loss after the other. Post WWII, the US did not do any training nor did they produce much military supplies to the RoC.
ROC lost due to corruptions, mismangement even they are supplied by US and better eqquiped compared to PRC . Heck during this war, chiang's regime is not even democracy. it's more faccist , generalismo
@ayamkampung Lol, the RoC was barely supplied by the US, one constant issue the RoC faced in the later years was the lack of ammunition. The US placed an arms embargo on the RoC until 1948, and continued to drag their feet on shipping equipment/ammo thereafter. On the other hand, the PLA was constantly supplied by the Soviets, first with Japanese arms captured in Manchuria then Soviet arms themselves.
@LiouTao Please check from wiki " Within less than 2 years after the Sino-Japanese War, the KMT had received 4.43 billion dollars from the US - most of which was military aid."
@ayamkampung That was Sino-Japanese War, not the Civil War, I can't even believe you got the two mixed up. Immediately after WWII ended, the United States withdrew arms aid and placed an arms embargo on the RoC.
And try to read something other than wiki. I'm not saying it's not accurate, but it's not the only source out there.
@ayamkampung That's impossible, even Acheson's claim isn't that high (2 billion), which itself is BS. According to the White Paper, post-war aid includes 799 million economic and 797.7 million military aid, which adds up to only 1.6 billion. Of the 797.7 million military aid, 338.8 million was post-war lend-lease for repatriating Japanese soldiers, therefor is WWII expenditures, not Civil War aid. I'm not going further, because I'm out of room, but you get the idea how BS the 4.3 billion is.
@ayamkampung The military aid the Chinese received were uniforms and moldy cigarettes. Nothing to fight the communists. Most of the aid was the cost the Americans charged the Chinese for transporting troops and send the Japanese home. The Americans actually charged the Chinese more for the aid than the cost of aid sent to Europe to fight the communists there! At times, IIRC, it was 3x more! I think today, the US is glad China is communist... who else would buy so much of the US debt!!

The KMT was hardly the paragon of democracy and virtue.
One of the biggest reasons Taiwan has a large independence movement is because the KMT ruled Taiwan as a conquering army and an occupier from 1945 to the 1980s and the Taiwanese people haven't forgotten that.
@lukebccb thats bascically true. but consider the alternative. would you rather have the commies ruling taiwan?? they wouldnt be any less militaristic or firm. they'd be much worse. so taiwan thankfully got the lesser of two evils. but mainland china didnt.
@USFullOfLies 30 million means the number of Chinese killed in its 14-year war against Japan (1931 - 1945). The rape of Nanking is only a small part of it.
@USFullOfLies you misunderstand the rape of nanking caused over 200,000 deaths alone. but over the years from the late 20s to 1945 were millions more of troops and civilians. they werent all killed outright but that was total casualties.
CCP brainwashed it's own people by teaching Anti -Japanese education
presenting it's people bunch of fabricated fake photos of massacres, to make them believe and force it's people to deal with it's low wage labor system.
That is how Japan apologized and to many countries in Asia only not to China.
WAKE UP Chinese people, are you still going to get enough being a slave of a communist group like CCP?
@USFullOfLies Liars. The japanese commited GENOCIDE in China. They murdered over 30 million people! You are disrespectful to the people who died. Go to hell.
@USFullOfLies how the hell does massacres have anything to do with low wages? you pathetic piece of shit. You are just making up shit to put on anger on China. Get a life
@USFullOfLies hold it. i dont think youre using the wrong word. its deception, not fake.. people were massacred. the point is that they use those photos to manipulate and redirect the blame on others rather then themselves. in order to make themselves out to be above all that and therefore the better choice. but its all a deception not fake. you can never trust the commies. they are masters of lies deception, sabotage and confusion. they operate that way to manipulate everyone else.
I don`t know about Nanjing Rape, but I know about Nanjing orgy and the Japanese soldiers has a lot of fun with Chinese prostitutes hahaha
BTW, too bad Japanese didn`t finish the job, they were doing AN EXCELLENT WORK, sadly USA stopped Japan, they should have let them fuck the dirty Chinks more because it was FUNNY :)
Little Tawianese bich Im going to find your ass protesting and mob you with everyon i can get from chinatown
@unizob no, its not that. the concept of democracy or any other is only as good as the people who administer it. and democracy cannot happen overnight. i know its been years already but it may take longer than we know. the key is having the desire in the leaders, and the people to want to make it happen. its a journey, not an instantaneous reaction. patience is far more required than desire.
people are unwared of KMT's brave resistance against the invading japs troop with so meager equipments and so little war supplies and thus being weakened badly after the WWII ,meanwhile Mao's army however, had regained their strength. Also the left-wing western intellectuals and the Soviet spies had already infiltrated into the US government and hence produced wrong China policies which alone with the Soviet's invading Manchuria and reinforcing Mao's army caused China fell into commies' hand.
1. The KMT/NRA was gravely weakened by the Japanese. 2. many so called KMT defected to the CCP with their weapons. 3. Oh yeah the USSR giving all the captured Japanese equipment in Manchuria to the CCP did not help. 4. Chang Kai Shek while being an OK military man did not know anything about conducting a decent counterinsurgency war. he did not apply hearts and minds into defeating the commies but relied on the kill all method,,,,this did not work and made the peasants go to the CCP.
From 1927-1937, the KMT had the CCP on the ropes and the if the fucking Japs did not invade then the KMT would have obliterated the CCP and China now would be in a even better shape than it is now...Capitalist earlier, a much better economy and a US ally and westernized. Oh yeah the commies won how:
what's so great of civil war? Jap killed 35 millions of us, I guess that wasn't enough, so we have kill another 10 millions of our own, just because those leaders can't talk to each other. there is no glory. any Chinese with brain will get sick by watching this. anyway, since everything is measure by money back China now days, I wonder how many Chinese still has a brain.
It called " 亮劍" produced by mainland China to describe Civil War of China. In the movie General 楚雲飛 represent ROC amy to fight with Communist army bravely !
@He101A Defections wasn't it, that only happened later. Defections happen only when you're losing, we didn't start to lose until a couple years later when we started running out of ammo. There's a book, The China Story by Rita Utley. That bull about the Americans giving us 'billions' in aid was a bunch of BS. The Americans placed an arms embargo that wasn't lifted until 1947. We were literally fighting with what we had left from what the Germans sold us 6 years ago to fight the Japs
@He101A If the Japanese didn't attack China, the CCP would have been wiped out by the KMT. Even after WWII ended, the KMT also almost annilated the CCP, but then the Americans butted in and forced us to sign a bloody ceasefire, allowing the CCP to regrow again and restock. Sure, initially after WWII, we were still 'better armed' then the CCP, but that was only initially, the Americans put a bloody arms embargo on us which wasn't lifted until 1947, we literally ran out of ammunition.
I'm a exchange student in american. we just taught WWII, and a little bit about Civil was of China....but she(my history teacher) even didn't know that Taiwan is a dimocracy country. I was so shocked....she already taught that Chiang Kai Shek fled to Taiwan...but she didn't our government were also move to there.....so I told her....but still felt so down.....even a history teacher didn't know who we really are!
If The ROC was attacked, I would valunteer for the ROC Army. No Free people will be subjugated on my watch, I will break their resolve, or die trying.
@posteriordepression1 "One shinning moment..." --- one of my favorite songs. How relevant this song is to reds' historical moment that had passed. I Wish you get all four right.. You're alright. man.
But there are things Western media blew out of proportion. Tibet is prime example. Yes, Chinese policy toward tibet is brutal. Yes, it's very unfair and brutal.
So is Brits in northern ireland, America toward native americans, Soviets to Chechnya, Congo, Rwanda, Serbs in Bosnia, the list goes on.
Imperialism has never disappeared, and international politics is nontheless ruled by power and might.
But originally, I was just commenting on military strategy.
@posteriordepression1 A flexible and positively evolving strategy that was shaped by neo-real time human intelligence; and right or wng that had everything to do with politics. The pendulum of history has long swung away from the struggling reds. What's inal four of this year?
Politically Mainland is at an extremely fragile stage. While improved slightly, reds still have human rights issues and enormous corruption problems. That's not including environment damages and growing age-skewing toward middle to old age (chinese baby booms).
Olympics was a nice show, but China faces deep problems heading into 2010s.
Thats all I was getting military strategy. I highly doubt any country would admit to a Iraqi resistance group leftover from the Baathists with Al Qaeda.
Finally, if you think commie propaganda drove Chinese victory, OK whatever. Commies had better propaganda then and sadistic maneuvering in politics too.
I'll admit to one thing, Commies won strategic victory. but policies were borderline insane 1957-1976. Combat victories does not erase the great leap forward and cultural rev
I guess cloertotruth simply cant stop talking about politics. Im no politician, and Im guessing ur prob not one either. KMT exists CCP exists, yeah politics. So what. Maybe in 100 years unification happens maybe not. What average people in Taiwan and PRC prob want is some peace, that's prob all. Nobody wants a goddamn nuke war.
But, for convention warfare, today in mid east Iraq has studied elements of Maoist/Polish survivalist military strategy.
I dont care about Korea, I dont care about politics.
I respect the military strategy employed by the reds. The only thing I have really talked about was military strategy. BTW Liaoshen was not a rebellion, rebellion would mean that there was a central government, but KMT controlled only 40 % of NRA. You dont want to hear me say it, go to CIA factbook or to Langley, Virginia open archives and look at US intelligence details on the war.
@posteriordepression1 Don't care? Politics dictated supports to ANY militaristic execution; and usually that means human intelligence desperately needed in the battlefield. CCP was riding the Red Tide enjoying intelligence from sympathizers all over the places, which hd nothing to do with mao or so-and-so having ESP-like military geniuses. Isolating strategy from a cult-like fad that made people enthusiastic is like attempting to walk on the water.
@posteriordepression1 No central government? How conveniently to explain away an act of treason aided by proximate old Russ. And, in long 14 years, mighty Imerial Jap had been out-lasted by a 'weak' shadow of China's non-central governmnt? Furthermore, then you're saying UN was founded by USA, Great Britain and France only? Not until 1972, ROC had represented China as the only legitimate Chinese government. Have you ever questioned your source of infomation even once?
@posteriordepression1 Riding a then-seemed faddish and invincible Red Tide, as all other fellow commie countries around and in the vincinity of mother Soviet, CCP did enjoy supports reaping the benefits of Goebbels style propaganda. On the other hand, many in KMT camp fell victims to such cult-like influence and stopped resisting CCP's advances. Time has already told that CCP and mother Soviet was a bad fad in history at a great cost to people's sanity and lives.
@posteriordepression1 Arse-kicked? Oh, that's sickening arousal of a twisted pride when you consider a hidden fact that, at unimaginable high cost, KMT had resisted Jap's onslaughts and occasionaly kicked Japs' arse day in and day out for at least eight years while CCP, like warlord, as documented plicies shown, had conserved and preserved and developed strengths. CCP's own disatrous deeds in post-49 years pretty much leaves 'perfect' war record as the ONLY bright spot as their history.
I dont care about mainland politics. Mainland politics is crappy, and Taiwan does not offer much better.
But, my point was the commies had the perfect strategic plan to combat the KMT, at that time a large and partially mechanized army.
The top Commie commanders Su Yu, Lin Biao, Chen Yi, Liu Bocheng, Peng Dehuai were much more competent than Du Yuming, Liu Chi, Fu Zuoyi, Chen Cheng, etc. Bai Chongxi was a competent KMT cmder, but he had personal issues with Chiang
When the KMT massacred CCP in 1920's, Soviets did not care. CCP long march, no russian support. Liaoshen campaign, no Soviet support. Huaihai, conventional warfare, no russian support. China did not have more than 500 K dollar russian support until after 1950. First Soviet support to commies was post-1950, mostly technical support personnel for industry.
The fact is, both Soviet and USA tried to conciliate with KMT, at the time world's largest army, as a buffer zone.
@posteriordepression1 Hmm... why attempting to create that imaginary distance from mother Soviet? for alleviating chronic legitimacy issue? Chronic censorship and media monopoly and a once textbook fabrications of KMT's non-involvement in Sino-Japanese war are proof enough to a liar choked in conflicting lies created by self. About Liaoshen rebellion, did Russians take ALL Japanese modern weapons that
... were designed and prepared for years to fight mighty Russians? Can your mind handle what facade means when tricks were practiced among players in history? Were Russian MIG-15 pilots among PLA's Airforce attack echelons in Korea war? Were PLA's uinits among North Vietnam's engaging american forces? especially air war theater? You do't seem to have a mind to begin with, let alone get out of it.
@posteriordepression1 Phew, no this no that and clean like a whistle? Too good to be true? like a cult would like you to believe? LOL. You must know this old truth- "opposition is the path to truth." When an opposition-banned regime insisting on practicing censoship and media control and even judicial manipulation, I, and anyone owning intellect, would very much think there is something crucial to hide. You seem to enjoy that cult-like 'seamless' explanatory history.
@posteriordepression1 Oh yeah?! Let's see what was the real story: having signed away those afore-mentioned privileges(i.e. Japs' industrial assests etc) before securing mother Soviet's pivotal assistance, CCP was riding a then-faddish-now-faded Red Tide together with all other Soviet-raised Eastern European commie brothers.
To raise an army with ample fresh supply of recruits, CCP launched land reform in Manchuria promising peasant's land ownership. As a choking irony, 64 years later peasants had long been stripped of such ownership for over 50 years. What a hoax that was and, peasants today still have the lowest living standard. Media control and censorship and dependent judicial remain necessary measures to put up a facade of all-is-well. History of Soviet serves as a crystal ball alright.
can kmt fight back to mainland is what on my mind now???? can it be done??? or it's mission impossible?anyone comment?dun joke please.i want good answer!!! i support and fully support kmt to rule china mainland one day.bring sun yat sun 3 principles to china, bring democracy to china.only then can we bring real peace to the world.not to say that communist china is going to rule the world now, but seems like they are getting from bad to worst in their corruption and also morality.
As nice as it would be to see the blue sky white sun red earth reign over all of China, I have to be realistic. The changes in China are already a sign that the 3 principles if not the flag are making a comeback on the mainlaind. The free market is flourishing and aside from Beijing and Hunan, there are more monuments to Dr. Sun than to Commie Mao. Corruption and immorality? That's a work in progress. Remember that the KMT had its share of problems too in the 30s and 40s.
Indeed USA was helping to CCP, they didnt like so much Natioanlists cause Chiang seems like a kind of Nazi, USA Hypocrisy. Chiang died hoping the great helping from USA wich never came, what a Senselessness.
communist propaganda film. It talks about a communist officer and a nationalist officer fighting the Japanese together and eventually fighting each other.
@CaptainCool07 it is not propaganda if you actually read the book, but this film is a little bit because they cut off the cultural revolution part off
we should have adopted democracy after the war with japanese that way comunist and KMT could get along and not have war. Then there will likely be ONE CHINA to this day. democracy is in the 3 principles. Thats the way it goes :)
why nationlist government army so imcompetent mainly lose every battle, nationlist army have superior number, more advance weapon from the support of us yet fall city after city to the reds so easily, such weak army and ill planning no wonder china was communist
You are an idiot. The KMT were superior until the WWII, when the Japanese came over and wiped out the KMT's best troops. After WWII, most of the KMT's "elite regiments" were annilated, the government was basically bankrupt, and their supplies were exhausted whilst the CCP used WWII as a chance to build up their strength. Why the hell did you think Chiang wanted to finish off the CCP first before taking on the Japanese? Exactly for this same reason.
its just a fictional character in a show. After the nationalists lost 3 decisive battles involving millions of men on both side, there was nothing stopping the communist. It signifies the defeat of the nationalist on mainland.

TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer There are several reasons why the RoC lost mainland, it was not one. At least half of those reasons are directly attributed to the US. US Arms embargo of 1946 which was not lifted until 1948. Forced Ceasefires with the PLA despite being on the verge of victory. US agreeing with the USSR to allow Manchuria into USSR control. American support for the RoC? Historyical evidence points strongly to the contrary, the US provided little if any support to the RoC during the Civil War.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@LiouTao The KMT did not DESERVE our support! They STOLE most of the money and arms and supplies and equipment. Mao said: "The Americans are our biggest arms supplier." That's because the KMT stole and sold thousands of tons of equipment to the Communists.
How was Manchuria under USSR control? It was returned to China by the USSR after Japan surrendered.
The KMT was full of corrupt pigs. Their pathetic performance against Japan proved that.
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer KMT corruption did not sold equipment to the PLA, and I can find no sources of Mao saying that quote. The PLA was primarily supplied by the Soviets and leftover Japanese equipment. There was no US equipment to be 'stolen' because of the embargo in 1946. USSR did not hand Manchuria back to the RoC, they stayed to allow the PLA to take refuge in Manchuria.
As for WWII, pathetic performance? As if you can do a better job? Don't talk about something you don't understand.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@LiouTao Perhaps it was Cho En Lai then that said that. Anyway, look at the Chinese Revolution documentary here on You Tube - in the last episode it says it.
And the KMT performance in WW2 was RETARDED. General Stillwell almost pulled his hair out dealing with Chiang's theiving, moronic and incompetent generals and officers. We did a much better job - we destroyed the Japanese Empire!
CORRUPT PIGS
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Which documentary? Gimme the link.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Stillwell was a tool, all he wanted was complete control over the NRA and have them throw themselves into a suicidal and meaningless assault at the Japanese. Chiang refused to listen to Stillwell, and got Stillwell replaced by Chennault. Stillwell pissed at losing his job starts spouting rumours and lies about Chiang and the KMT. For ten years, the NRA fought and held out against the Japanese WITHOUT American aid despite all the disadvantages, we are NOT incompetent.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@LiouTao Horrendously so! Chiang was too busy fighting Communists to attack the Japanese and his officers were too busy STEALING our aid to fight properly against them. Plus, Chiang allowed the Japs to roll right into Manchuria in 1931. He was a tool. The KMT was a joke.
Chennault hated the KMT too and complained about its corruption and hopelessness. Defeat to Mao was inevitable. Don't blame us because you sucked.
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Stealing aid? The United States did not provide aid until LONG after the Xi'an incident. Chiang did not allow the Japs to enter Manchuria, he had ordered Zhang Xueliang to defend Manchuria, which Zhang chose not to do.
Defeat to Mao inevitable? Several times during the Civil War the Communists could be wiped out, even after WWII, had the US not sent Marshall to China forcing ceasefires with the PLA, the Communists would be gone.
And BTW, Chennault had a high opinion of Chiang
LiouTao 5 months ago
@Liou Chennault may have like Chiang, but not the decrepit KMT officials and generals around him. Again, check the doc. for the quote from Cho/Mao about the supplies. It also details the utter starvation of KMT soldiers during WW2 because of KMT officials and officers STEALING everything they could get their hands on (US, Chinese, Japanese, or from wherever.)
KMT = pathetically corrupt and ineffective force and performance. I believe the doc. is called "The Chinese Revolution 1925-1949"
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer China in revolution 1911-1949 - that's the one. Take a look at parts 7 through 10. The quote is in there. Enjoy. Or, rather, I don't think you'll enjoy. After all, it confirms what the rest of the world knows: that the KMT sucked and was a bunch of corrupt, ineffective thieves.
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer I watched part 8 (part 7 was useless, in fact part 8 didn't even reach the end of WWII). I don't have time to watch the whole thing, because I've to go work, I'll finish it up later today. From what I've seen so far in part 8, it's done nothing but confirm what I've already known and deduced. Only thing that I was wrong was that Stillwell was replaced by Wedemeyer, not Chennault, I got their names mixed up.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer And have you also missed the part where KMT officials and officers themselves were also starving as well? China was going through hyper-inflation, where the already small salaries of officials were now reduced to zero. Many officials had no choice but to resort to graft for the sake of survival. Wedemeyer himself admitted that he doubt he would be incorruptible if he had to live on the salary of a Chinese general.
LiouTao 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer "The KMT was full of corrupt pigs. Their pathetic performance against Japan proved that."
The US seems to be full of corruption too. The US performance in Iraq and Afghanistan proves that. ;)
The US troops are heroes, but it seems that you are saying that the millions of Chinese killed by the Japanese were nothing. Typical American thought.
8mmzzs 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer "That's because the KMT stole and sold thousands of tons of equipment to the Communists."
Why would you sell equipment to the enemy? I have seen many dumb comments on youtube, this ranks with one of them. Then again, the US is sending aid to Pakistan.. and they faithfulness towards the US is not clear at best. Your statement is ironic isn't it?
8mmzzs 5 months ago
@8mmzzs Exactly my point! Thank you for making it for me! Yes, just like Pakistan, our great American generosity was lost in a shit storm of incompetence and corruption in China.
The KMT were a pack of crooks. Deal with it.
TheLoyalOfficer 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer "The KMT were a pack of crooks. Deal with it."
And the US government too...spend and spend and spend and throw money and give out favors to benefit the few. Deal with it.
The Communists are just as corrupt. Without their big empty cities that people can't even live in, no wonder they became the 2nd largest economy in the world. If they wanted to, they can manipulate the data and become no. 1, but they are modest. The US will fall to China someday, I hope soon.
8mmzzs 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Funny that nobody around the world like the US these days lmao. Blaming the US is the norm now.
Communism seemed to be powerful in the minds of people, even so, many Americans believe communist sources enough to actually support the CCP. Plus, having communist spies in the US government in the 30s-?? can help.
The US isn't really strong when fighting communism.
Korea... Vietnam... Cuba..? FAIL
The Soviets were playing dirty, while the US thought of playing it clean.
8mmzzs 5 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer "For the US to give more money and arms into that hopeless sinkhole would have been just a waste."
Isn't the US doing that in Iraq and Afghanistan??? Throwing money into a hopeless sinkhole? Funny that history repeats itself.

@CommunistPowers what's the rating on?
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers Nah, they were never BFF, especially when Chiang was in power as he doesn't listen to them. Relationship between the RoC and US were cordial at best. The Americans constantly sabotaged RoC efforts throughout the course of the Civil War. Politics isn't black and white like you think it is, it's very complicated.
Dunno, if the RoC won Huaihai, they might be able push to the Yellow river and stall the communists and try to rebuild. I'd say most likely a stalemate would happen.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers That was in late 1948, when the first batches of American military equipment since the embargo reached the RoC. The RoC pooled their best Huangpu armies into the battle. The PLA was by no way underequipped, by then they were sufficiently trained and equiped by the Soviets. The PLA also had high level moles in the KMT and were able to act according to their intel. Eventually what happened was that the RoC armies were encircled, and were destroyed when they tried to break out.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers They didn't lose their effectiveness because of the lack of training, it was the lack of ammunition and equipment. After WWII, the US clamped an arms embargo on the RoC and as a result, the RoC was unable to buy any ammo from anyone. They could only produce 7-8% of their necessary ammunition, so basically from then until 1948, the RoC were using what was left over from WWII and what they can salvage. They initially outperformed the CCP, but as the war dragged on, meh...
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers Yes, those were trained during WWII, not post-WWII. An average NRA Army has 10k-15k troops, average NRA division is 5k-6k. If you add that up, that's actually less than 39 divisions, those were probably the few divisions which were actually trained. Regardless, after WWII, the US cut all military aid and placed an arms embargo
Usually, 'aid' is free, but for the Chinese, 'aid' is sold, not given.
I can't really compare, because the US trained were Huangpu
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers As for US trained troops, it's probably referring to WWII and later supposedly trained troops. Per agreement, the US were to train and equip 39 RoC divisions, which was broken in 1946. The few divisions trained were not allowed to acquire ammo from the US. An arms embargo was placed on the RoC and not lifted until 1948, during those years the RoC was unable to acquire 1 round of ammo from any nation.
And BTW, 'aid' to the RoC was not 'free', all 'aid' was sold to the RoC.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers You do know that the cited source for that info is the same as the one which states 4.3 billion in arms aid, right? The 4.3 billion which I just shot down?
US troops were sent to hold specific places, they were not allowed to invade communist held areas, they were all withdrawn by 1947. As for the transports, it's part of the Lend-lease agreement where RoC troops were transported to Japanese held areas to accept their surrender.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@CommunistPowers What part of an Arms Embargo do you not understand? What part of running out of ammunition do you not understand? Yes, initially The RoC did well and had the CCP on the run between 1945 and 1947, but starting in 1948, RoC was running out of ammunition, that's when the RoC started losing battles, and it was straight losses one loss after the other. Post WWII, the US did not do any training nor did they produce much military supplies to the RoC.
LiouTao 6 months ago
ROC lost due to corruptions, mismangement even they are supplied by US and better eqquiped compared to PRC . Heck during this war, chiang's regime is not even democracy. it's more faccist , generalismo
ayamkampung 6 months ago
@ayamkampung Lol, the RoC was barely supplied by the US, one constant issue the RoC faced in the later years was the lack of ammunition. The US placed an arms embargo on the RoC until 1948, and continued to drag their feet on shipping equipment/ammo thereafter. On the other hand, the PLA was constantly supplied by the Soviets, first with Japanese arms captured in Manchuria then Soviet arms themselves.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@LiouTao Please check from wiki " Within less than 2 years after the Sino-Japanese War, the KMT had received 4.43 billion dollars from the US - most of which was military aid."
ayamkampung 6 months ago
@ayamkampung That was Sino-Japanese War, not the Civil War, I can't even believe you got the two mixed up. Immediately after WWII ended, the United States withdrew arms aid and placed an arms embargo on the RoC.
And try to read something other than wiki. I'm not saying it's not accurate, but it's not the only source out there.
LiouTao 6 months ago
@LiouTao , it's after the sino-japanse war if u read it correctly , which is the civil war.
ayamkampung 6 months ago
@ayamkampung That's impossible, even Acheson's claim isn't that high (2 billion), which itself is BS. According to the White Paper, post-war aid includes 799 million economic and 797.7 million military aid, which adds up to only 1.6 billion. Of the 797.7 million military aid, 338.8 million was post-war lend-lease for repatriating Japanese soldiers, therefor is WWII expenditures, not Civil War aid. I'm not going further, because I'm out of room, but you get the idea how BS the 4.3 billion is.
LiouTao 6 months ago

My point is, Commies kicked KMT ass in civil war.
Against a superiorly numbered and armed enemy, CCP command scripted a nearly perfect strategic plan.
posteriordepression1 1 year ago

The fact is, both Soviet and USA tried to conciliate with KMT, at the time world's largest army, as a buffer zone.
posteriordepression1 1 year ago

@closertruth
Soviet support? Are you out of your mind?
Soviets stripped Manchuria clean, moving all industrial and most japanese artillery pieces into Russia, before vacating it.
Commies won manchuria in the Liaoshen campaign, go ahead and read the CIA fact book, as it was the first major campaign in civil war post-1946.
Soviet support? Nigga pleaz.
Soviets had more vested interest in supporting KMT. As they had given them so much financial support before WW2, during, and after WW2

US did help, a lot actually.
400 million dollar investment, unadjusted for inflation, with approx. 50 US armed trained divisions = 1 mil troopers.
The communists had to quickly campaign in Manchuria, even though it was stripped bare by Stalin, and then proceed to rest of China.
KMT made grave personnel errors failing to centralize command under EFFECTIVE generals. Then lost Huaihai, and the rest is history.
posteriordepression1 2 years ago
@posteriordepression1 Oh yeah?! Let's see what was the real story: having signed away those afore-mentioned privileges(i.e. Japs' industrial assests etc) before securing mother Soviet's pivotal assistance, CCP was riding a then-faddish-now-faded Red Tide together with all other Soviet-raised Eastern European commie brothers.
closertotruth 1 year ago

@cheowyonglee
Remember that the KMT had its share of problems too in the 30s and 40s.

we should have adopted democracy after the war with japanese that way comunist and KMT could get along and not have war. Then there will likely be ONE CHINA to this day. democracy is in the 3 principles. Thats the way it goes :)
