  • How high does this stuff run up your electric bill? And how many times have you blacked out the neighborhood lol

  • Great video - thanks - what are the nails for at the top of the Jacobs ladder?

  • That is nice! Did you touch the coke can? Is that alright?

  • Cool

  • touch it!

  • Two friends of mine and I did this with a neon sign transformer and some copper pipe once.

  • ca you make it with a car starter

  • no, use a neon light transformer

  • @Keetch13

No. The starter doesn't have the proper components. You need a transformer that is able (by means of a coil) to ramp up the voltage to a high level while keeping the amperage (relatively) low. A starter is an electric motor, not a transformer

  • fake?

  • what chaffel3 meant to say was ''i am a gay faggot who thinks everything that is kool is fake''.

  • Ha,Put that Under Audio Preview :P

  • @chaffel3

Moron. That's electrical engeneering, not a fake!

  • How did you make it purple? It's really nice looking.

  • i think its the camera pikking up infrared

  • Aw, man, that's a shame. Though you could probably actually make it a nice shade of purple by sprinkling potassium salt on the electrodes. After all, it's like burning potassium salts, isn't it? In both cases, the colored light should be emitted, since the electrons are gaining energy (either from electricity or fire) and then returning to ground state, releasing light.

  • how can this not kill you wean 220 AC volts can ????

  • It's the amperage that's can kill you, not the voltage. That being said, most of these NSTs do put out more than 20-30 mA, which is the point where cardiac arrest tends to occur.

  • cardiac arrest occurs at 6mA not 20-30.

  • its not the Voltage that is killing. Its the amps

  • ok thank you

  • np :)

  • Yes, but you have to note that volts allow more electricity to flow through the body. Consider Ohm's Law, V = I*R. If you increase the voltage and your skin resistance remains constant, the amperage that flows through the body has to increase. Dry skin normally has a resistance of 500k, and wet skin about 1k. So while touching a 3V 10A power source with dry skin might not be deadly, touching a 125V 10A power source (US grid power) most definitely is.

  • @shadowdude77

Of course, it's dependent on body mass and size of the person touching it. I'm a 160 lb male and I accidentally got in the field of my 10kv/15A Arc Generator and it threw me back out of my chair and left me stinging for more than a few minutes. It was enough to make me give up work for the day. These are NOT to be trifled with, even if it's below 3kv.

  • some one shuld make a jacovs ladder metronome....

  • good ideer! :)

if you ground 2 "contacts" in the sides of a box, and then make the "pendull-swinging-thing" the high voltage, it will arch when it touches (right before acctualy) and make a long arch when it swings back...

maybe i'll try that, and post a vid?

  • uhh...ok.

  • i acually ment the sound of the jacobs ladder as a metronome.

  • oh, see. my brain just started imagine a hight-voltage swinging pendull-thing :D

    i feel stupit :o)

btw i dont know why the "if your unlucky, and don..." message came here? it was an reply for an other vid on youtube. Have a nice day

  • damn this shits CRAZYYY! i used a cold cathode inverter to power the LCD screen on my laptop! works like a charm! but needed an extra switch to on and off the backlight lol. cheap way to replace the LCD inverter if yours has broken or wont work. :)

  • ive used the spark to cut glass

  • smell that ozone.... mmmmm

  • Ok today is oct 24 and my dad come home with a micrwave that works so I took it apart and I want to make a jacobs ladder do you just put 120v to the mot and them then thers your jacobs ladder?

  • MOTs (microwave oven transformers) are MUCH more dangerous than NSTs, they have virtually no current regulation so can pump you full of way more energy. If you want to use it, read everything you can find on HV safety and about MOTs. It could work, but NSTs are much safer (lower current), and provide higher voltage. Call up local neon stores, you might be able to get a used NST for 20-30 bucks.

  • Aw thanks man. I was worried about the HV becuase it is very dangerous. I will find some neon transfomers.

  • I change my mind im only 13 but my dads going to help me he has a degree in electronics so its all good there. another qustion id like to ask is the microwave has a HV capictor and I going to use it but how do I put it in the circut and were?

    Thanks JP

  • what a coincedince im only 13 and i like hi...aww hell i love high voltage! check some of my vids if you like.

  • Ok thanks will do.

  • Be careful with the mot, it will kill you. Its voltage is too low for a reliable Jacobs ladder. I got mine to work ONCE, but it quickly blew the 15 amp breaker. BE careful with this stuff!

  • so that would kill you?

  • if your unlucky, and dont know what your doing... yes you could die, at least it will smell like fried chicken when you wife gets home XD lol...

  • Amazing. You should see all the Related Videos YouTube put up next to your post. I could spent all day on ladders.

These are thousands of cycles and not as dangerous as low frequency plasma ( or aether - my term for all those invisible currents and voltage that make visible sparks) .

  • Zim804

What happens when you put your finger in between of the Jacobs ladder? lol

    You Fry.

  • What happens when you put your finger in between of the Jacobs ladder? lol

  • You'll only get 'a little' electricity trough your body. Thats all ;-)

  • cheers bauerb2,love your tesla vid too.

  • lol nice. i did the same thing you did with the wires at the top and i got a huge flaming arc. nice video.
