nah i think its the other way around. If you ever saw g1 megatron or soundwave you would see them mass shift down in size when they transform. So Tidal wave probably just did that so he would fit with megatron's size.

If you are talking about tidal wave, then my guess is that because TAKARA produced this series, only they have the rights to certain characeters. That, or Hasbro thought it would be better to have a more colourful character. If oyur Talking about Megatron, he became galvatron after his mini-con leader 1 gave him a power boost while fighting an evil ptimus prime. (Nemesis Prime). I hope this helps.
