Why is this guy pulling back on the slide? Does it not have a slide release? Also I see a lot of people using "two" fingers to rack their slides. I would practice using the entire hand. If you ever did get into a gun fight your nerves are gonna be on edge and little detailed movements go out the window.
In my opinion, the 9mm sub-compact has sufficient knock-down power for a conceal weapon. I own the XD .40 4'' model and its almost overkill in its size and power. For concealing purposes 9mm is the way to go. Otherwise they are both really nice, accurate, and well made semi-auto pistols.
I've taken my XD SC .40 to the range 3 times and what I've found is that it shoots very low. I have to align the sights "point of aim" style at the top ring of a 12" target at 25 ft to consistently hit very close to the bull's eye. Have you noticed this with the 9mm? Since the sights aren't adjustable AFAIK I'm not sure what I can do aside from just adjusting my aim. BTW-so far my XD shoots every super-cheap ammo brand I've tried with no malfunctions; I've heard differently about similar Glocks
The point of aim issue might be grip angle-related (assuming you're talking about double taps or rapid fire), in which case you might want to try a Glock -- it should shoot a little higher for you. I've read/heard nothing but good things about even subcompact Glocks, so I don't think reliability would be a big issue. Anyway, just an idea.
I know that it's been 8 months since you posted this, but I would send the pistol back to Springfield. If it's shooting that far off they'll fix it for free. Best customer service ever.
I like the Springfield sub-compact, but Im not sure if I want the .40 or the 9mm. Ive heard the 9mm is more accurate with less recoil, but the .40 offers more stopping power. Any suggestions?
9mm is fine. Get large-grain hollow-points for it. Pistol caliber is not something to be overly concerned about. Proper training is far more important.
i took that leap for my first handgun. I had to choose either a 9mm black model or od green .40-both sc. I went with the 40 and feel like im waiting for xmas to get here!
Oh Lord. You've opened a can of worms now :).40 vs 9mm has been argued since the beginning of time. The correct answer is shoot whatever you're more comfortable with. Personally I have (and recommend) a 9mm because rounds are cheaper and looking at FBI ballistic test data I found that 9mm rounds performed as well if not slightly below their .40 counterparts. I'm no expert, but I suggest you look at ballistic penetration and expansion as a guide and if possible shoot both and see which you prefer
Lastly matt99unc if ANYONE wants to tell you that the 9mm is a useless self-defense round (as is the case at the Bass Pro Shop near me), you ask them to stand down range and prove it! :) Happy shooting.
I think it is always a matter of preference. It always helps to be able to go out and shoot with a variety of weapons to see what feels best for you. I do prefer the Springfield over the Glock but that does not mean it is better. Glocks are well known for their reliability but they do not feel right for me. I try to go with friends to shoot with and try their weapons. I tried a Kimber, great gun, but at $1400 I didn't think it was alomost $1000 better.
I carry a 1911 my wife carries the XD Sub 9. Given the choices for us they are prefect. I have practiced that if I clear leather the safety goes off. If she had to deal with a thumb safety her mind would over power her hand and she'd not shoot when she needed to. Given the choice of XD vs Glock, the safety features of a XD are MUCH better than a glock. It's all in the user. The main safety is the nut behind the trigger at the end of the day.
I actually have nothing negative to say about shooting, stance etc. My beef is with the choice of target....What did Freddie Mercury ever do to you???? :)
Just for the record, I own several 9mm, they are great to shoot, and I do carry one as a backup when Im not using the 38 special hammerless featherweight :) I just dont choose to carry it in service or for home protection. When I qualified for my firearms courses I used and STILL use a 9mm. I especialy love my model 17 Glock. damn, i think ill go shootin today lol
i dislke 9mm,here at the base we have conducted several tests and trials with 9mm, .40,.45,The ballistics on the 9mm was less that expected, unless you hit someone "on the spot" you run the risk of his attack continuing, not much stoppin power. I have met 4 people, either law enforcement or criminals that have been shot with 9mm and lived, but ive never met anyone thats been shot with a .45, and lived, plus the 9mm couldnt go through a crown vic's driver door, a .45 went through both
i have one of these they are accurate easy to use and great for personal protection i have never seen one of these jam in my life what amazes me the most is how this gun was torture tested it was frozen in a solid block of ice caked with sand stripped and degreased and ran over with a truck and fired nearly 20000 rounds without a problem
Do yourself a favor and drop your 9mm bud, unless your using it for cheap plinking and such. I do not trust the 9mm for many reasons. Ask any federal agent, not a single agency carries the 9mm. and for good reasons. Upgrade to a .40 or .45 for protection. nice XD compact....

I just bought one of these in OD green. Only have 100 round though it though so can't comment on reliability yet. It's really easy to shoot since its a 9 and recoil is about nil. Double taps r cake. Accuracy wise, it's very accurate IMO for such a small gun. I got the 9mm since ammo is cheaper and its going to be used as a BUG. I was also considering a glock 26 but the XD felt better in my hand and I liked the other extra features (loaded chamber indicator, striker ind., grip safety, ext. mag)
Hey sedated12, why don't you post a video of you shooting so we can talk shit and call you a retard cock suck. I'll even throw in a can of green gas and bb's for your airsoft gun that your mom bought you.
capnkirktm is correct. Especially in the fact that the glocks are a little dangerous. They are constantly misfired. Thus being very dangerous for concealment carry. Also thanks for the correcting on the price ranges. I was too lazy to look them up.
Can anyone give advise. I am buying either a springfield xd 9mm subcompact or glock 26 or taurus milinium? I read some bad things about the taurus, I actually had one on hold at the gun shop and told them I needed more time to think about which one I want.
Hmm... I don't own either a Glock 26 or a Taurus, but I own a springfield XD 9mm and it it EXTREAMLY reliable. I put 2,000 (Two-thousand) rounds through it and had no jams, no misfires, And I didn't clean it! Very Good gun.
XD's are amazing, i have never shot a 9 but the .45's rock. dont waste your time on the taurus. Glocks are cheaper i beleive and i believe they also carry more rounds. XD's are more accurate. If you are not too experienced with uns i reccomend the glock 26. The XD is a little more complicated and more expensive.
you can't go wrong with either the glock or xd, both excellent guns. Try renting both at a range and see what you like better. I would go with the xd because springfield has the best customer service around and has a lifetime warranty AND comes with a mag loader, belt holster and double mag holster. Plus they are just more sexy lol. I also feel safer carrying it around. I feel like glocks are kinda dangerous.
when did they start coming with that, as I have a 2 year old xd and one purchased today, came with a cheapo case and a cheapo lock and a bore brush 2 mags. Thats it. Maybe your gun shop is throwing in things, or you got the .. I forget what its called, but they sell a kit with some special edition.
I dunno. as far as i know they always came with the extra goodies, if you buy them new. Go to the springfield website and it will fill you in. maybe the gun shop ripped you off. hope not! My xd45 that i bought in JAN. came with it.
I went to at least 4 Firearm stores and they told me they chose the XD to the Glock 2 to 1; I have an XD, it's more recent than the Glock, and I'm happy. I put almost 1000 rounds with no problems. You can put an XD or Glock buried in the dirt like an AK47 and when you dig it back up,yet it is still functional!!!
this gun is really fun. my buddy has one. as far as comparing it to other guns i have only shot this and a glock 23c .40. the glock actually has less recoil because it has a compensated barrel but i like the looks of the springfield.
If you watch any of the real cop shows, most people are killed by .22s. Shot placement. Good ammo + a well placed shot = stopping the threat. I use 9mm myself. I have an Xd 9 sub compact with Hornaday TAP ammo.
I've noticed that too. "victim died of .22 calibre wound to the neck/torso/leg"... whatever.
people underestimate how quickly one can go into shock and bleed out with a seemingly "minor" gunshot wound.
Maybe that guy who's angry at you would keep coming where a giant calibre round would break bones and slow him down. I try not to piss people off that badly that I need to kill them to stop them from killing me. Average mugger/looter/jerk isn't looking to get killed. Draw and he's gone.
as if 9mm dosnt hav enough stopping power! what, a clip of 9mm isnt gona stop someone if u get even 50% hits? pfft. if someone shot me with a .22 id be fkd.
My g/f wants to get that same gun, as soon as she gets back from a li'l trip w/ the Navy. I guess my Colt 10mm is a bit too much and my PT101 is a bit thick in the grip for her small hands. Why didn't you show your target? I wanted to see your grouping.
probably because every couch warrior douche on youtube would be like I'm a way better shot than you. I love how everyone on Youtube is like the expert in everything.
Here's an idea. How about some intelligent conversation. Let's hear some comentary on the gun itself. I'm trying to figure out what handgun to purchase. How does this gun compare to others you have fired?
I have an XD45 service and it's the best gun I have ever fired. Smooth trigger that breaks nicely and unlike a glock it feels great in your hand. Not knocking glock but the xd is much better.
He doesn't have to worry about a piece of paper killing him in this case. Hell, you make it sound like the paper is going to eat him unless he shoots faster.
watchwis, he's not shooting a fucking airsoft like you're used to. there is a little thing called recoil. it would be better to have 2 well placed shots then 15 all over the fucking place, possibly not hitting the target at all.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Security, you sure as heck do not shoot yourself. Airsoft is for pussy like you - since this is the first thing that came to your empty head. Recoil? What - is he shooting a shotgun? Double tap is the term you should learn, dummy!
lol. you're nothing more than a troglodyte, watchwis. accuracy first, speed second. i can just imagine you now... get into a real life "gun fight" and unload all 13+ (or however many you happen to have) and miss every single time, since you're so stuck on the speed aspect of shooting.
if you put 2 in the chest and 1 in the head as, swat and special forces is trained to do, it will stop anyone...read up on it, normal officers carry 40's but majority swat and special forces carry 9mm due to their effective training...learn to shoot your pistol better and a 9mm will work the same
Stopping power comes into affect when debating effectiveness of a 9mm versus a 40 or 45.f
In the Marine Corps we should the M9. Sure, it's a good pistol with the max effective range sitting at around 50m, but a majority of Marines you'll talk to would rather fire a 40 or 45. Stopping power = Important.
For me the subcompact is conceal gun so it should have some stopping power to put your life on. a 9mm isnt that round out of a 4or 5 barrel let alone a 3" one. the xd-40 subcal has some power and accuracy. mine will break 2x4s holding target posters at 25m. the kick isn't bad at all. the extended mag is preferable though.
The 4" models in 9mm and .40 S&W are called the service models. The 5" are the tactical models. In .45 ACP, there is the standard 4", full-sized grip called the service model, but there is also a 4" model with a shortened grip and that is the XD45 compact. The tactical models are also available in compact and full-sized grips.
I have the xd 9mm subcompact. It is 3 inch. The 4 inch is the compact. I wouldnt get the .40 in a subcompact, too much bullet in so small a package really kicks hard and rough. The .45 compact may be a better choice, they just came out with a new one that has different size mags to change the grip lenghth like they do with the sub.
I'm not really sure... That was my dads gun, it was the 3" version. I believe that the same model come in 3 1/2" and 4", but i think that the 4" is just considered compact. Do a google search for the Springfield Armory website, It has some pretty good descriptions of the XD's fetures. I like the Sub-Compact 9, But i'm going to be getting the .40 cal sub-Compact.
The 9mm xd comes in the "sub compact" which is short grip, 3 inch barrel, and "service" which has a 4 inch barrel and a full sized grip, and i believe a "tactical" which has a 5 inch barrel and a full sized grip.
.45 comes in "compact" which is 4 or 5 inch barrel, short grip with extended magazine also included for full sized grip, "servie" and "tactical" which are full grips with 4 or 5 inch barrels.
Despite it's size this gun is very accurate. People, you need to spend your time and money and get your lazy asses to the range.

If you watch any of the real cop shows, most people are killed by .22s. Shot placement. Good ammo + a well placed shot = stopping the threat. I use 9mm myself. I have an Xd 9 sub compact with Hornaday TAP ammo.
peeringthrough 3 years ago
I've noticed that too. "victim died of .22 calibre wound to the neck/torso/leg"... whatever.
people underestimate how quickly one can go into shock and bleed out with a seemingly "minor" gunshot wound.
Maybe that guy who's angry at you would keep coming where a giant calibre round would break bones and slow him down. I try not to piss people off that badly that I need to kill them to stop them from killing me. Average mugger/looter/jerk isn't looking to get killed. Draw and he's gone.

as if 9mm dosnt hav enough stopping power! what, a clip of 9mm isnt gona stop someone if u get even 50% hits? pfft. if someone shot me with a .22 id be fkd.

see what did I tell you. This is why he didn't show his grouping because of "expert" douches that know everything
vampov 3 years ago
My g/f wants to get that same gun, as soon as she gets back from a li'l trip w/ the Navy. I guess my Colt 10mm is a bit too much and my PT101 is a bit thick in the grip for her small hands. Why didn't you show your target? I wanted to see your grouping.
Nomad5O2 4 years ago
probably because every couch warrior douche on youtube would be like I'm a way better shot than you. I love how everyone on Youtube is like the expert in everything.

Haha your so damn right.

Yeah, 10mm might be a bit much.

Here's an idea. How about some intelligent conversation. Let's hear some comentary on the gun itself. I'm trying to figure out what handgun to purchase. How does this gun compare to others you have fired?
derkaiser40 4 years ago 5
I have an XD45 service and it's the best gun I have ever fired. Smooth trigger that breaks nicely and unlike a glock it feels great in your hand. Not knocking glock but the xd is much better.
capnkirktm 3 years ago
15 shots, good gun, just fire quicker so i can see if jams. i hate guns that jam

Too slow, dude. By the time you took your first shot, you should of been dead.
watchwis 4 years ago
He doesn't have to worry about a piece of paper killing him in this case. Hell, you make it sound like the paper is going to eat him unless he shoots faster.

You shoot as you trained. What is he trying to show? No speed observed, no accuracy visible. Waste of time.
watchwis 3 years ago
watchwis, he's not shooting a fucking airsoft like you're used to. there is a little thing called recoil. it would be better to have 2 well placed shots then 15 all over the fucking place, possibly not hitting the target at all.

Security, you sure as heck do not shoot yourself. Airsoft is for pussy like you - since this is the first thing that came to your empty head. Recoil? What - is he shooting a shotgun? Double tap is the term you should learn, dummy!
watchwis 3 years ago
lol. you're nothing more than a troglodyte, watchwis. accuracy first, speed second. i can just imagine you now... get into a real life "gun fight" and unload all 13+ (or however many you happen to have) and miss every single time, since you're so stuck on the speed aspect of shooting.
security1769 3 years ago 2
watchwis, you're a dumbass. Have you thought about working on accuracy first, then speed?
Airickf 3 years ago
You're gunna be deaf in a few years if you keep shooting without ear protection :)

he has earplugs you can just barely see em

if you put 2 in the chest and 1 in the head as, swat and special forces is trained to do, it will stop anyone...read up on it, normal officers carry 40's but majority swat and special forces carry 9mm due to their effective training...learn to shoot your pistol better and a 9mm will work the same
twiztedmusky 4 years ago 2
Stopping power comes into affect when debating effectiveness of a 9mm versus a 40 or 45.f
In the Marine Corps we should the M9. Sure, it's a good pistol with the max effective range sitting at around 50m, but a majority of Marines you'll talk to would rather fire a 40 or 45. Stopping power = Important.
BColby17 4 years ago
stopping power doesn't mean crap if you can't hit the target. Having more bullets might be beneficial for some people.
vampov 3 years ago 10
9mm isn't enough stopping power
avalizan 4 years ago
Maybe not but it's plenty enough and I'll spend 30%-40% less on ammo on my frequent trips to the range.
rudysmustache 4 years ago
For me the subcompact is conceal gun so it should have some stopping power to put your life on. a 9mm isnt that round out of a 4or 5 barrel let alone a 3" one. the xd-40 subcal has some power and accuracy. mine will break 2x4s holding target posters at 25m. the kick isn't bad at all. the extended mag is preferable though.

how much is a xd 9mm
rodrigoelgu 4 years ago 2
The 4" models in 9mm and .40 S&W are called the service models. The 5" are the tactical models. In .45 ACP, there is the standard 4", full-sized grip called the service model, but there is also a 4" model with a shortened grip and that is the XD45 compact. The tactical models are also available in compact and full-sized grips.
jtkratzer 4 years ago
I have a sub-compact in a .40 and it doesn't bother me too much.
I also have two XD service models, 4'', that are .40s as well with the 9mm conversion barrels.
Good gun!
adamdude2004 4 years ago
I have the xd 9mm subcompact. It is 3 inch. The 4 inch is the compact. I wouldnt get the .40 in a subcompact, too much bullet in so small a package really kicks hard and rough. The .45 compact may be a better choice, they just came out with a new one that has different size mags to change the grip lenghth like they do with the sub.
buckmulligan23 4 years ago
hey man is the xd in 4 inch bigger than the sub-compact
zodiacguys3 4 years ago
I'm not really sure... That was my dads gun, it was the 3" version. I believe that the same model come in 3 1/2" and 4", but i think that the 4" is just considered compact. Do a google search for the Springfield Armory website, It has some pretty good descriptions of the XD's fetures. I like the Sub-Compact 9, But i'm going to be getting the .40 cal sub-Compact.
JStebbins27 4 years ago
The 9mm xd comes in the "sub compact" which is short grip, 3 inch barrel, and "service" which has a 4 inch barrel and a full sized grip, and i believe a "tactical" which has a 5 inch barrel and a full sized grip.
.45 comes in "compact" which is 4 or 5 inch barrel, short grip with extended magazine also included for full sized grip, "servie" and "tactical" which are full grips with 4 or 5 inch barrels.
