I saw a graph on Engadget, which showed the interest/demand of consumers of both Windows Seven and the new snow leopard OS (through volume of google searches). And Windows Seven was not only CONSTANTLY higher over time, at the highest point it was more than 11x higher than apple.

Apple are starting to get pushed out of the market they recently really started pushing for.

Same thing with the xbox 360 and ps3, i predict same thing with Zune HD and ipod touch

All that said, Vista's a disaster everyone saw coming years and years ago. They really need to build the next OS from the ground up, or at least make a much lighter version of Windows for ultra-portables (Moore's Law ain't gonna bail them out again). Unfortunately, I suspect this won't actually happen - that they'll depend on multi-core chips (along with advances in multi threading algorithms) and GPU outsourcing to deal with all the bloat.

I agree with most of what you said, but I think MS learned its lesson with Vista (especially since businesses aren't touching it) and Windows 7 will be leaner. After the disaster of ME, MS came back with XP, so even MS can learn from their mistakes. You could very well be right though.

Vista is indeed bad (and a disaster from a PR standpoint). The guy in charge of designing it (Allchin), even wrote Ballmer and called it "a pig." Not a good sign :)

Still, Vista is by far their most secure OS...

Ballmer's job is first and foremost to make shareholder's happy and to create an aura of, well let's call it inevitability for Microsoft's domination of various markets. This is what the majority of Microsoft consumers actually want, especially companies who've built a lot of infrastructure (physical and intellectual) around their previous products. Unlike Apple, which depends on a lot of collaborations, being a good neighbor isn't so important for Microsoft and is perhaps of dubious wisdom.

I would have to disagree. I think the job of a CEO is to run his/her company in the best way possible (in a way that ensures that the company is functioning at the highest level possible and is profitable and competitive). I may be splitting hairs here, but I just don't like the idea that a CEO's job is to placate shareholders. If the company is being run well there will be no problems with shareholders. With that said, it is nice to find an intelligent Youtuber to discuss this with. Very rare.

Sorry, I am kind of hampered by the 500 character limit thing, but I also wanted to mention Microsoft's stock since Ballmer became CEO (2000). I believe it has lost half of its value since then. If I were a shareholder, I wouldn't be happy, especially given that Microsoft owns the personal and business PC market :)

With that said however, Microsoft is a strong buy, as its profits are good, its P/E is good and as mentioned, it owns the PC market. Things will only get better with Windows 7 too.
