Can't say that I love Microsoft over all, but I feel for Bill. He must be clawing at the walls of his brain attempting to talk tech with an technically incompetent lawyer.
I still think in the whole apple bs microsoft, despite apples success, there's still something about them where all The products don't have an over all use e.g I pad. And any one saying bill gates is a nerd needs to learn - this bloke knows his shit, very smart man
@Blastbarnacle Since you enjoy copying and pasting, I shall follow suit:
@Blastbarnacle You mean the company Microsoft helped to resurrect, and the man who is a good friend of Jobs? Pathetic that you use his death as a platform for your uneducated ramblings.
@Blastbarnacle The last operating system that Microsoft produced with Bill Gates as CEO/Chairman was Windows XP. It is arguably the greatest operating system ever created (as evident by Macs having a "compatibility mode" that runs XP). Bill was not involved with Windows Vista, and the problems that came with it, or Windows 7. The fact that Bill had to retire, and even then years later, for Apple to surpass Microsoft in market share only shows how suckish Apple, Steve Jobs and the new hierarchy
@IBeAWizard24 at Microsoft is. Apple's high market share is predominantly made up from its iPod and iPhone. Windows is still by far the most commonly used OS in the world. Steve Jobs was not "victorious" over Bill Gates, he was just successful in the mobile phone industry. You are ignorant, sir.
This lawyer is going about this all wrong. He starts out by wrestling with a smart witness over semantics that the court won't care about in the end. Instead, he should be exploring the internal history IE's development by letting Gates tell a story and then pinning Gates on the parts that help his case.

@azaz911c, That probably would not have worked either because, as you suggest, he's a smart witness, trying very hard to make sure he doesn't concede anything that can be used against him.
Gates is AWESOME!!! TOOK THIS GUY TO SCHOOL!!! who did this guy think he was going to be talking today the class of his 6 yr old daughter...the very computer you used dip-shit to pull up your info for this depo, this man created the software..lmao
Notice how Bill NEVER, EVER, NEVER gives a direct yes/no answer to interrigator. Because that would limit his choices with argument in court. He's clearly taking take for calculated answers that are based on vague descriptions that opposition can't use against him. VERY CLEVER!
My econ teacher back in high school told us about how Bill Gates was brilliant during the US vs Microsoft trials, by extending the trials out over longass periods of time and just by being brilliant. Now i understand xD
The guy gets the release date wrong, classic. He was probably trying to lead Bill to say "yeah, November" so later they could convict him of lying. IE1 was released with Windows in August. IE2 was released in November.
Sounds like he is pulling a Bill Clinton definition of 'is', but I find this to be educational. The way he carefully examines statements to make sure he is not putting himself into shit is great.
"we created a set of bits" -referring to the unix and mac version of internet explorer. LOL, this depo always makes me laugh at how evasive is was for no reason whatsoever.
The reason Bill takes a contrarian view to each definition is because the attorney intends to use these definitions against Microsoft.
The US attorney is going to try to argue that web browsers and operating systems are distinctly separate entities and that by combining them (shipping windows with internet explorer), Microsoft tried to monopolize the browser "industry".
Bill knows this and argues that these definitions are too simplistic (which they are for a court of law!).
He needs to be smarter than the judge on every subject because he wants to show how intelligent he is in his own field. When infact It made him look like a fool in some cases.
all i mean is that he gets soo detailed in the wording that what he says is right, is basically the same definition that was stated in the first place.
He is a smart fellow i will give him that, but he needs to really take his ego out of the equation.
He is smarter than the person asking the questions. But that's not the point.
The point is that the person asking the questions is engineering his questions to try and draw the conclusion that he wants, while Bill Gates is engineering his answers to ensure that conclusion is not drawn.
Bill Gates seems to have issue with the judge on everything. Interestingly, Gates seems to have redefined every computer-related term. LOL He is certainly evasive to rather straight-forward questions. If he asks your opinions, then give your opinions not others and don't put "statistical" flavor into it.

I would not call Gates as a clever person from the deposition videos, he was rambling, veering away from the topic the whole time, really made no sense, so his genius i cannot see, lol.
there is nothing clever about his answers, he simply avoids answering the presented questions in a clear way, instead muddling everything and making us all feel confused.
Gates wants to be evasive, but ends up giving the questioning lawyer the exact affirmative answers he wants. Gates can try to obscure the definitions all he wants, but these are simple 'yes' or 'no' questions.
There's no grey area here, just his ego telling him that this shouldn't be happening to him.
Yes, adjusted for inflation it's Rockefeller. At the time this was recorded Bill Gates was the richest person in the world, and both him and Rockefeller gained their wealth from overseeing monopolies (Standard Oil, Microsoft) .. go figure.
@fleetwoodsucks According to Forbes: Top 10 (Richest People in the World) Carlos Slim Helú William Gates III Warren Buffett Mukesh Ambani Lakshmi Mittal Lawrence Ellison Bernard Arnault Eike Batista Amancio Ortega Karl Albrecht

Netscape...Apple Computer....the list of victims that Bill Gates left behind in his wake is astounding.
As of 10/12/2011, 12:49 PM CST, Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) market capitalization: $376 Billion at $406/share.
Microsoft's (MSFT) market capitalization: $227 Billion at $27/share.
On his deathbed, I can imagine Steve Jobs had one, overriding feeling about Apple when concerning Bill Gates and Microsoft:
Victory
[Apple Inc.'s value/worth exceeds Mobile Oil at the time of this posting]
