  • Only a retard would shoot from that far

  • @Yagutah Don't make this gay.

  • What was the silver guy trying to do?

  • @Yagutah He was trying to "shoot" at his legs? Basically grab them and knock his opponent off balance.

  • very different way to how we sprawl, i tend to sprawl into guillotine, i like this method though i might try it

  • @WASTEDgameplay

Yeah, this type of sprawl allows you to either punch or knee stomp him, to go for the anaconda choke or just stand up. So I think most of the time it's more efficient, also because you'll end up on the bottom if the guillotine fails.

  • puta

  • mbmjhb

  • WOW the silver surfer does mma???

  • coollll

  • As a kickboxer and karate guy, all I can say is that sprawling saved my fucking life when I started sparring with amateur MMA guys. I train in BJJ now, but even before that just knowing how to sprawl will really put you ahead of the game. 80% of the time someone is going to double leg you when they go for a takedown. Anyone who dosen't train in grappling should learn how to sprawl. It will definitely put you ahead of the game.

  • @thegrassisgreenhere - I hear you! The first time I sparred an MMA fighter, I was on my back in seconds. My first reaction was to get out and up, which landed me in more trouble. I would say within 30 seconds he was landing punches on my face. Not hard it was just sparring, but letting me know I was done.

  • @thegrassisgreenhere Glad I know throws and clinch takedowns, sprawl proof all of them.

  • @ThePinkMan

i spar with my brother sometimes but never actually fought anyone

anyway, you dont explain how it makes it easier, that you just know...

i still think a knee in the face is the better alternative, i mean the sprawl is good, but you need to react much faster to move your legs back and put your body weight all on top of the persons neck. it'd be easier to aim your knee and brace for impact.

then again. neither of those moves will work wsince they take you down wen u least expect it

  • @Varencilator Dropping to both your knees limits your mobility while your opponent is still driving forwards with his feet. By dropping down, you're basically putting roadblocks on your legs and allowing him to run right through you. Also, the idea behind takedown defense is to keep him from having a stable grip on your legs and to stretch out his grip. If you're on your knees, he can pull your legs into him.

In short, it's just not a position where you have a lot of power.

  • @Varencilator Anyway, all I can tell you is that you should find a highschool wrestler or MMA fighter willing to spar you so you can test out your knee. As I've stated before, it always sounds better in theory than in reality.

  • @ThePinkMan Ya true, sprawls arent very effective against a good wrestler, theyll just cut the corner sooner rather than later, but if you sprawl with your hips and knees all the way down it can stuff a takedown for a few seconds, which is all you need before you start puttin them in headlocks and start workin to get their back.

  • @ThePinkMan Oh haha nvrmind i saw what the other guy was sayin, he literally meant just getting on his knees with his back and torso standing straight up. i thought you were talkin about sprawling with ur knees flat and ur hip flat and pressuring his head haha. ya that guys a fish if he thinks he can stop a good wrestler with one knee, cause we get about 30 of those every practice by mistake and it dont phase us one bit haha

  • @Varencilator knee is much harder you must aim and shoot and you must notice since the first second he rushes at you. Sprawl can be done before you lose your balance, even if he already got hold of your knees.

  • Guys the key to a good takedown is surprise and technique. Trust I have been takedowned and as soon as you even think in reacting you are already loosing your balance. If you focus on punching, you are takendown easier. In order to be able to defend, you must realize what is going on since your opponent crouches. The problem is that if your opponent throws a punch he may distract you and use that chance to go for your knees. The takedown- sprawl battle is won by the smartest fighter.

  • @ThePinkMan

I don't fight at all and have never been in a real fight. I do have pretty good instinct though and if I go down on both legs, my center of mass would be more towards the floor and harder to take down. The extra time needed to take me down allows me to strike or get the person in to an actual submission.

  • @Varencilator How do you know you have good instincts if you've never been in a fight?

You do not know or understand the mechanics of a takedown. Your useless theories about how you would stop the takedown will not help you. If you go down on both knees, you only make it easier for someone to take you down. I know this because I actually have experience with takedowns and KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.

  • @ThePinkMan

-i wouldnt try to kick him, just stick my knee where his face would go and see if he would still go for the tackle.

-i would also crouch down with him to make it harder to go down.

-so basicaly step back a little with one leg with my other knee out where the users face would be.

-and if he still manages to grab hold of 1 of my legs, i could just knee him in the head with the other

-or if he grabs both ill go down on both knees and elbow his body

-inda vid, dat guy has bad instinct..

  • @Varencilator The guy in the video is Bas Rutten, Muay Thai and MMA legend. He is a much better fighter than you, or your instructor for that matter. It didn't work for him, it's not going to work for you.

The big problem is that you have no concept of what it feels like to have someone try to take you down. In your second to last point, for instance, you say you'd go to both knees if he grabs both your legs. That is one of the worst possible reactions you can have to a takedown.

  • OR you could stick your knee in his damn face...

  • @Varencilator Doesn't work. I have this discussion a lot, so I'll give you the abridged version of why the knee defense is less effective in reality than in theory:

    1. It's a lot harder to land than you think when someone's quickly taking out your legs. Odds are you won't land a solid shot and end up making it easier for him to take you down.

    2. Even if you do land a solid knee, there's still a good chance he'll take you down anyway:

    sdO2mGcd6oU

    ^ Video to illustrate point.

  • Afterwards, It would be very awkward because I wouldn't know what to do next.

  • It's funny how people think this is gay, and when the other guy messes you up, you all of a sudden are "sorry." Come on guys, fighting is limitless, and this DOES work. But you won't need to worry about it cause people who think moves like this are "gay" usually can't handle the pressure of fighting "real" opponents.

  • press 3 and hear hipster , and a gray guy fucking a gray guy in the head

  • keep pressing zero to see ghosts!!!

  • hmm and someone please tell me when youre gonna need any of this brainwashing crap for everyday life? Isn't it sad what we have come to? We all sit around worrying about self defense and being attacked (even though it'll likely never happen to any of us) instead of LIVING our lives lol. So sad. this isnt Ancient Rome

  • @bazarro44 Why are you spamming this on every martial arts video? That seems a lot sadder than what you're criticizing martial artists for. Most of us don't even worry about self defense.

  • @bazarro44 people get attacked every single hour of the day my man. btw you will need this when some dumb thug trys to grab your legs at the atm machine.

  • This is so gray...

  • I fought this kid that was way bigger and i fuked his shit up

  • why are they naked ?D:

  • since when in a fight is it been a good idea to try to hug your opponent's knees?

  • @Ashcombeguy If someone you're fighting goes for your legs, this is what can happen:

    AYvYTvCG0Cw

    And also this:

    oJeoaYv03NE

And even if you're bigger than him, it's still dangerous:

    G8N9SnQX47M

  • @Ashcombeguy moron its MMA which has a lot of wrestling incorporated into it - this was a verry sloppy double leg takedown which u will see quite often in MMA and the sprawl is one of the simplest and best defenses

  • @Ashcombeguy Because rushing into the guy's body knocks out his centre of gravity, allowing you to knock him to the floor. Where, obviously, you will use your superior skill to win the fight. Watch j2IkeMZPSOE (Bas Rutten vs Ken Shamrock) and watch all the times Ken uses this strategy to knock Bas to the floor (bear in mind Bas is primarily a striker whereas Ken is a submission specialist).

  • learning this is crucial in a street fight

  • @awwfulwaafffle Thank you for the illuminating words, sensei.

  • @PBLero Thanks chief

  • i tried to tie my kid's shoe laces the other day and he did the sprawl on me

  • @IlovelouisDTV

our child is destined to be a great warrior.

  • @IlovelouisDTV

    lmao! i meant *your

  • Failllll xDDDDD

  • bad

  • he could just move away from you..his head is not placed on the floor

  • @DjayJohn Sure he could move away, but he's not going to get up as long as you stay on top of him.

  • your kitten man i would try my move on my cat named sniffles the cat that always follow people around this small town.

  • lol, this is one of the most basic and necessary moves to be a good fighter and I see lots of people saying "why would i need to know that". Makes me feel good about being able to stomp the average dumbshit. :)

  • ummm.....no

  • wow i just got a nice load of ass crack from that video

  • y do they have vaginas xD kidding kidding

  • whos the fuck will charge on u with his head?? o.O

  • @IamIlay someone who wants to take the fight to the floor where they'll end you if they're trained in jui jitsu and you're not.

  • this is usefull in rugby when some one tackles you from the front >:)

  • 0:02

why would anyone jump at me like that???

  • @ahmad2117 Nobody would. It's an exaggeration of a failed takedown attempt. In real life, people will try to tackle you from a closer range and drive through you instead of just stopping. The sprawl is still an effective defense for that.

  • a chick wanted to gimme a blow job the other saturday.

    i said " WTF?? " - and gave her a sprawl.

  • @Jack11017 PMSFL!!!

  • @Jack11017 that would make a great porno. it would last 49 minutes, with you as the main star of course. the whole movie consists of a chick trying to give you a blow job while you sprawl away, the whole 49 minutes.

  • @Jack11017 im loling so hard hahahahahah

  • @Jack11017 lolllllllllllllll

  • i done that on my sensi the other day! :D

  • vulnerable unless he's eduardo telles Turtle Power!

  • Man fuck this in a fight its so diff

  • @MrZombieskiller depends on situation, i wrestled, this is instinct if someone shoots in

  • What? So this needs the opponent to decide to do the smartest thing in the universe: crouch down and dash towards your genitals.

This is indeed the most useful move ever. -Sighs-

  • @weidrake youd understand if you did wrestling

  • @weidrake No, it's when an opponent shoots in for a double-leg or a single leg. He's not going down by choice. He's trying to commit to a takedown, but you stuff them to the ground.

If you've never wrestled, you won't understand why this is necessary.

  • @rockos414 True that brutha.

  • Just hold your opponent's neck, sprawl all the way down, and make him tap with a Guillotine!

  • Looks like a ready position for a buttfuck

  • Am I the ONLY one who understands the equations and formulas in this video?

  • @TenteixSaigo You probably are one of few, everyone else just says it's bullshit to make it look more scientific, which if you actually read it, it's does make sense.

  • @BlueEonApocalypse it's says "force = f of bodyweight times acelleration of gravity minus the resistance of opponent." Simple enough, right?

  • @iAnimeGuy yea because you can do that while i guy is taking a shot ?? you dont know anything....

  • now i'm a wrestler, but this video was hard to watch, really history channel, is it to much to ask for you to animate some cloths on these guys

  • Im sure they could easily slide out of that!

  • @ARdotSTEALTH The problem is that a lot of martial arts classes are watered down. Martial arts classes need to have full-contact sparring like in boxing for the techniques to be effective. If you find one with that kind of sparring, then it is good.

  • @ThePinkMan

Drill and drill and then pick a fight. Training old school. lawlz.

  • @ARdotSTEALTH What you need to realize is that these videos are just for demonstration. You're not supposed to try and learn from the videos.

If you go to a real martial arts school, then you can use techniques in real fights.

  • @ARdotSTEALTH Are you talking about the double-leg takedown in general or the one shown in this animation? Because I've already made it clear that the animation is not correct.

People use the double-leg in streetfights all the time. It'll send you some videos to show you.

  • @ARdotSTEALTH The problem is that your technique is purely theoretical. As I've stated before, I've seen numerous streetfights and no-holds-barred matches. The elbow never works, but the sprawl has been proven. Plus, it'll also driven your opponent's face into the concrete when you do it on the steet.

If you want I can PM you and link a bunch of videos so you can see how this looks in real life.

  • @ARdotSTEALTH This animation was exaggerated to demonstrate the sprawl. In real life, people drive through you when going for the takedown instead of jumping in front of you.

They won't need to dodge any attack you make. When he's going for a takedown on you, he's going to be disrupting your base and you won't be able to generate the kind of power you need to stop him. Even if you manage to hit him, he's going to pay you back with dozens of punches after you hit the ground.

  • @ARdotSTEALTH Relying on the one hit knockouts is never reliable. I've seen numerous streetfights and no-holds-barred matches where this takedown (It's called a double leg takedown) is used, and the elbow to the back of the head never works.

  • @ThePinkMan I'm with you on that one.

  • I place a face down gray guy in defense mode!

  • afterwards CROSSFACE!!! u wrestlers know what im talking about ;)

  • @axelles4455 wizard arm, crossface lol or post his head

  • This really shouldn't be named MMA. He just leaves his hands on top of the guy. In MMA, no hooks = no control.

  • damn! i had wrestling in PE 1 week ago, it was meant to grab the opponents leg. I could use this technique and win!! but i forgot to use it

  • for all of you that say this is hard, join a wrestling team, this is one of the first things you learn. It is not at hard as it looks at all.

  • @roofmantheroofman THIS. I was a state alternate from doing nothing but sprawling and cow catcher

  • This should be under free style wrestling, not MMA.

  • nice this so hard

  • Thumbs up if you use it on people and they get pist off after you let go!

  • @pepsiarabia1 At a gym sparing and after i did this a few guys pulled me aside and told me not to do that cause it wouldve broken his neck :\ lesson learned lol

  • @rugby2413 Generaly you are right but my trainer is also an american who did submission wreseling and i specificaly asked for defences agaist bodyslams and he mentioned the sprawl hope i cleared some things up. :)

  • @rugby2413 I do Judo which is derived from jujitsu. Also i know lots of standing fighters who use this move because it counters a low body tackle.

  • @rugby2413 I'm a brit whit a blackbelt

  • everyone press 0 and tell me wtf is that

  • This is American Wrestling 101

  • for a stand up fighter...this is your most useful move you can ever use against a ground fighter...

  • very useful to counter fatasses that rush you

  • Ya, this move is good if someone trying to rape you in jail.

  • @youngstunna79 you could use it and have other people rape him making him vulnerable to many number of attacks lol.

  • Good sprawl but crappy takedown. My technique in wrestling was to dodge it and make them

    Pay for it!

  • This is just stupid, the guy doing the takedown puts both his knees on the ground three feet away from the sprawler's feet, if someone tries to take you down like in this simulation, all you would have to do is leap backwards. This is why when training takedowns and takedown defence, both guys need to go full throttle to learn the correct technique. After the shot the guy defending the takedown usually has to go for double underhooks, because the other guy will keep on pushing forward.

  • t-bag lol

  • So next time I go to football practice, if someone tries to tackle me, he will receive this

  • "vulnerable to a number of attacks"

    yeah an ass raping

  • this takedown is so shity.

  • HOLY CRAP THE GREY GUY WON THIS TIME!

  • Throw a front head lock and flip him on his back o and under 2 seconds that needs to be done

  • Good, now work the three-quarter, stuff the head, and get behind him for your 2 points!

  • @apollothemighty or get your crossface ankle spin behind take the 2

  • i wish they would have made the sprawl look like how it does when you see it live on the mat... when you see a pro do it right it doesnt look like that, it looks more like a guy shoving his hip/thigh directly ont the bottom buys head causing exciating pain to the nose and neck.

  • @Duskstorm150 no this is flying

    its a toy story reference

  • Meh, i'd prefer to pull a C-Clamp on that guy instead...

  • this is what we do in westing! that where it from

  • Hes do him a blowjob WTF .. you gay grey dudes

  • The Gilloutine is my favorite submission from a sprawl

  • @jagdjohn96 mine is the d'arce choke. flashy and effective yet very easy to apply.

  • @liverfaliure I wish it was that easy.

  • @Theyellowma its no that hard dude

  • @SavvasO4 Maybe it's not that hard to learn and perform the mechanics of the move, but to actually perfect your skill in it to the point where you can stop an experienced grappler takes a shitload of practice just like any other technique.

What people also need to realize is that takedown defense is a broad skillset that extends way beyond just stopping the initial shot with a sprawl.

  • @ThePinkMan ye usually if u mix it with a gelatine chock then its very effective and causes your opponent to think twice before trying to take you down

  • @Theyellowma it is easy. Sprawling is about as easy as doing jumping jacks...

this video made it look like sprawling is some advanced MMA technique that must be mastered but its actually a basic move that 10 year olds learn in wrestling. so i think anyone can do it after about 10 minutes of practice

  • @SergeantCrunch Oh course the biomechanics of the move are easy to learn. You could say the same thing about any technique, even a punch or a kick. The thing is, it takes a Hell of a lot longer than ten minutes to develop the timing and intricacies of the sprawl to actually make it work against someone who knows how to shoot for a good takedown.

Sprawling without a partner is as easy as doing jumping jacks; sprawling against someone who's good can be like trying to stop a train.

  • @ThePinkMan ... very true and well said.

  • @Theyellowma actually it is, im only like 115 and i manage to do this to my fat 230lb friend ( but he was all fat) try this with a front on guillotine instead of your physical weight and lift theyre neck up towards the sky so they have limited back muscle use

  • @Theyellowma hella easy

  • @Theyellowma it is that easy :D

  • @liverfaliure lol

  • @liverfaliure No I wrtestle in high school and i was a fighter for a while it is alot tougher lol trust me

  • @liverfaliure if u where a wrewtler u would under stand.its much more effective.

  • @liverfaliure No dumbass, you have to push your body down and usually your hands push the opponents head down as well and then slide your feet...if you don't sprawl out your feet, they grab that and slam you staight to the fuckin ground! I learned the sprawl in Wrestling and it's an amazing technique that works if you're really fast and technical.

  • @AMAURIS966 i said lol you pilchard

  • This is from wrestling so they should have a human weapon for wrestling

  • Lol at Dogbonez i cant belive its the same guy i found on a forum posting retarded comments like this. (Had the same name)

  • You can also try grabbing him under his armpits.

  • @OffalAutopsy no. bad idea. he can get into your legs easier. punisht the head. make him kiss the mat.

  • wrestling ftw :)

  • the purple guy always kicks the grey guy's ass...

  • then what?

  • wow MMA fighters are easy as fuck to troll on the internet.

inbetween the internet tough guy bs some of you had some good shit to say. looking into that pu-ket thai school you mentioned jack. surprised though, USASOC let you go for 3 months? you mentioned pricing though meaning that you paid yourself? who signs off on something like that? perk of being NG or perk of being USASOC? both? niether?

  • @PawnshopID Both. Being Tier 3 or above really helps if you want permission to do something. Asymmetrical warfare involves a lot of variables, and any advantage is crucial. I have several buddies who got permission to go to Australia just to learn their style of rappelling. And as my battalion is NG, I wouldn't miss much by going (3 weekends and a jump were all I missed. I lost jump pay, but got it back after the next jump) and yes, I had to pay myself. They weren't THAT happy about it.

  • @PawnshopID If you look at the prices though, it's actually an excellent deal. It ended up being cheaper to get the full package, 2 pivate lessons a day, a bungalow, a meal plan, and rent a motorbike than to pay my monthly rent.

  • @jack91x

you didn't happen to look into surfing while you were down there did you? is it year round, or seasonal?

@ 1000 USD/mo ~7hr/day training and the cost of living, i wouldn't bother with the bars, but how were the restaurants? and where's the cheaper food at? what do the locals eat?

  • @PawnshopID I didn't look into surfing because honestly, I suck at surfing. I would guess that the tidal patterns are pretty similar- spring and neap tides should be on the same days, and with the weather, i'd guess that only the rainy season would be bad for surfing. If you do the 3 month special, you can get classes for 440 a month (no private lessons though). The Tiger Grill was pretty cheap, but street vendors have some AMAZING food for literally pennies.

  • This weapon is totally USELES!!!!!!!

    TOTALLY WASTE..

  • Haha if this was in Pride, that person woulda ate so much knees.

  • @Jack91x i got an orange belt in judo / ja-mi-wa karate and i've been doing sanda / kickboxing for 1,5 years now and before that i used to do Jodo / kendo and i actually got fat cause of an intestine decease but i doubt you'll believe me XD but it actually is the truth though and natural body type is not a myth rofl

  • @TheObelix876 I believe that a disease caused you problems, however, I do not believe in "natural body type" because that would imply that no matter how you diet or exercise, you remain at the same weight. It may be hard for you to lose weight because of a slow metabolism ( I myself have seen the scale skyrocket up to 250 before) but that just means that you have to be more active. You have the potential, you just need to work at it. I recommend starting a strict diet and exercise plan.

  • Fucking tools. Shut up and watch.

  • so how about that sprawl, guys no nobody

  • Guys chill out, it's a Youtube video. Congratulations.

  • What they don't tell you is that you can easily go from a sprawl right into an eyegouge. Off course, in competition this knowledge is useless, but on the street it will save you the trouble of having a long and tiresome fight on the ground. Maybe there will be other opponents, or maybe your opponent is better skilled on the ground, it's better to use a sprawl as a platform for either punching the back of the head or engaging an eyegouge.

  • @Anandfulness Eyegouge is pointless against multiple enemies unless you manage to actually rupture the eye. Why poke him in the eye when you you can just break his arm or leg?

  • @jack91x No, eyegouge is normally faster than breaking the arm. Especially from that position (when you eyegouge from sprawl with the index, middle or ring finger). Your fingers need to be trained though. It's not as simple as just poking he eye. You need to find the eye with the finger and stick it from the side so you can rupture it (or at least damage it in another way). You can practice this on a dummy. In sparring you can somewhat practice this with facemasks but it's not the real thing.

  • @Anandfulness Why waste your time with an ineffective attack that has only a slight chance of success, when you can just go for omoplata by switching your hips and shooting the leg? It's not even a question of speed at that point- his own forward momentum will either break the humerus or dislocate the shoulder, rendering them combat ineffective.

  • @jack91x Oh, that's what you mean. Heh, you can try to do this but it's totally useless against someone who knows how to grapple. This sort of technique works if you have an idiot who doesn't know when he's lost the takedown. He will break his own shoulder. But this is really beginner stuff. After a while you know when it's coming.

Against someone that actually has some experience against the sprawl, it's better to surprise them with an (effective) technique that they rarely ever face with.

  • @Anandfulness thats not necessarily true good wrestlers can push through the sprawl and grab a takedown. in wrestling we're tought to never give up on the takedown

  • @destroyer919 : Trust me, if you have a serious eye- or throat injury, you will give up. Off course, if you go by MMA-rules, then it's different. You could still have a chance against someone that isn't trained enough in the groundwork.

  • @destroyer919 Unfortunately for us jiu-jitsu guys, you wrestlers DO have excellent position control, good takedowns, and are an absolute pain to grapple with. The only consolation (at least in my mind) is you wouldn't see me setting up Flower Sweep to Americana even if someone told you beforehand. One day wrestlers will just have to learn some submissions. Guys at my gym with a wrestling background tend to not practice because they already dominate- until one day they get absolutely thrashed.

  • @jack91x ya i agree a lot of wrestlers are like that but i try to mix in some jiu jitsu to further my grappling ability my personal favorite is the anaconda choke

  • @destroyer919 I personally don't like arm triangles. They're easy to escape, and while you have both arms occupied, he has a free arm and can easily place his ankle outside of yours- which is the easiest way to escape from mount to guard. Once you're on the bottom, you don't have the weight or leverage to finish the choke, and you're likely to have 3 outcomes- he stacks you and goes for crush choke or armbar, he runs the knee and goes to knee-on-belly, or he "jiujitsu killer"s to side control.

  • @jack91x An arm triangle from the bottom guard is rather stupid imo. If one's able to get the opponent in top guard's arm isolated I say to either go for a.) omoplata, b.) arm-bar or c.) try to get butterfly guard and sweep his entrapped side. An arm-triangle from the top, however, is an entirely different story...

  • @TurdFurginson Are you saying from the bottom or top? As in, you're trapping the arm of someone who has the dominant position or do you have dominance?
