  • lol lookin at the gas guage it moves down lol

  • Dude of course ur challenger could smoke that! They're cars smart which Is less weight but they still got high motors

  • those gold old 454's sound badass

  • My 2000 trailblazer v6 4.3l runs a 10.

  • @IllegalStreetRacer95 I thought Trailblazer's had 4.2 straight 6's... Hmm...

  • @brasmussen81 Later trailblazers, I think 2002-2003+ had the 4.2L L-6

  • you can see the gas gauge go down lol

  • I saw the gas guage drop :O

  • 0-60 in 8 seconds....not bad at all considering the shear mass of that thing!!!

  • That was the sound of about a gallon of gas being burned lol

  • This is the reason I miss having a V8 just a nice smooth solid power and torque curve. No waiting for the power to kick in.

  • Your gas gauge moved the quickest out of all of them

  • I had to drive like that once in my 97 SLE. I miss that car.

  • Wow thats crazy. My 6.5 suburban isn't that fast. I didn't figure there was THAT much difference between the two.

  • Thats real nice! Like that deep sound:)

  • This engine sound is amazing ^

  • My 95 with a 350 is about that fast and I get 13 mpg.

  • 10 seconds is decent for a 2 ton suv.

  • I had a 97' SLE with the 5.7 and got better mpg than my Landcruiser with a 4.6 six cyl. I miss that Chevy.

  • @tambunansumlang I know what your sayen about mpg i have a 98 4x4 surburban and i get around 23 mpg on interstate thats real good for a huge ass bus on 35 inch mudders

  • @SOUTHERNANDPROUD1861 i have a 96 tahoe 350. i get 9 mpg around town

  • @BowtieLS6 I know all about that kind of mpg when my bro was bad on luck i bought him a 96 4x4 tahoe and he was out in the country and his mpg was about 12-13 mpg then he moved in town and it got to that 9 mpg but on a long trip the 96 tahoe will get 22-23 mpg on interstate driven.

  • lol ...lucky for me mine is so old i dont have a gov. but then again i dont rly care about going faster than 100 anyway

  • i have an 02 lt with the vortec 350 my gps says it governs at 98

  • Damn that thing kicks ass!!

  • @05front kicks ass my ass! That shit only goes 100mph wow where you gonna get to in 100mph so cool!

  • @anythingtahoo you can remove the limitor and it weighs more than 7000lbs

  • can you see your fuel meter drop while doing this?

  • As the speedometer goes up, the gas gauge goes down!

  • Bet that 454 is pretty gutsy, I drove an old like '95 F-350 crew cab with the old 460 and some 36" tires, and it would peel out like nothin....

  • i forgot about that. when i worked at a chevy dealer a few yrs ago, the 2007 corvette was EPA rated at 26hiway/16city. lol

  • Hold on to that vortec 454. They're becoming rare now days

  • i looked at buying a 98 3/4 ton chevy xcab long bed 4x4 with a 454 and theyre supposed to get 13-14 mpg avg, but i dont see how

  • @bobcats330 I've heard they actually did get better mpg than the standard 350 (5.7L) engine. For one, the 350 came standard with a 4.10 rear vs a 3.73 in the 454. And the 350 would have to use more power to move a larger truck like that so it would burn more fuel where as the 454 didn't need to use much power to move the truck so it would burn less fuel. Make sense?

  • @WillieWonka928D Most people think the bigger an engine a car has, the thirstier it is. Not true. Regardless of engine size, it takes the same amount of fuel to move the same weight the same distance in the same time. One engine might be slightly more EFFICIENT than another, but CID is no way to determine fuel economy. How ya think the '98 Corvette Z06 gets 28mpg hwy? And yet a Toyota with 1/3 the power can only muster 36mpg MAYBE?

  • @yellowmusicfreak well with a heavy 454 your using more gas just moving the engine then you would with a 2 litre ricer engine just because the engines weigh more.

  • I love a big lazy v8 that can't even do 5k. So much torque.

  • what a slug

  • @chris000089 Considering that Suberbans are not very aerodynamic and the engines have ALOT of weight to push through the air it's pretty fast.

  • the speedometer went up faster than the tac

  • A stock gm truck/suburban had a speed limiter which kicks in at 100. Unless you truck is not stock it did not "peg"

  • @cdsnds31 Exactly. It hits 100 around 3800 RPM, falls down to 95, then goes back up to 100.

  • Comment removed

  • @UndoneHaddock dood my impala ss will smoke that, espically my srt8 392 hemi challenger

  • @cdsnds31 can you remove the govenor?

  • take it out of over drive leave it on 3 once it gets in 2nd put it in 2nd and leave it you will reach top speed much faster or at least thats how it works with my z71 i can go much faster in 2nd than 3rd 3rd hits the speed limmiter at 100mph 2nd will let me go 108mph

  • @DRNEGOLICIS

Straight to the transmission shop, no doubt. :p

  • @Jerkwad152 i dont get it?

  • did it come with that engine or did you put it in?

  • I could see your gas needle moving down almost as fast as the speedometer was moving up. :D My 99 Tahoe is terrible on gas too even though it has a 5.7 Vortec.

  • not bad for a big ass burban

  • What kind of mileage you getting ??

  • @sldl04 you can order the 454 crate engine ready-to-run off jegs.com. It'll cost you a left ball + processing and handling lol

  • Woops, I meen 454ever

  • 454 forever

  • @stlchevy95

I know....too bad they don't make them anymore, though. Great engine.

  • why do people cut it off, drive you vehicle till it dosnt pick up speed any more

  • @shaneroycrombie A few reasons...

    1. The truck can only go 100.

    2. Takes longer and more gas :(

    3. Lazy, but I might go film one in the next couple of weeks.

  • @UndoneHaddock oh i forgot those have governors on them. will you got me beat i should post a video on how slow my ranger is.

  • @UndoneHaddock theres no way that truck can only do 100, thats just what the speedometer says, i got a 89 chevy silverado 5.7 liter 350 and i've gotten it over 115 mph or more. if you got a gps, then you could see how fast it will go, cause you do weigh a little bit more than mine, but you have far more horsepower, i know it can go faster than 100

  • @UndoneHaddock oh ha forgot to say NICE NICE haha

  • @UndoneHaddock

Definatly true for #2... my 3500 7.4 only gets about 12mpg driving normal let alone droppin 4500rpms

    \

  • @UndoneHaddock im pretty sure it will go fast than 100 lol get a gps and try it out

  • @UndoneHaddock it can go faster than that and idk why but they made the spedometers cut off ine reads 85 and the truck actually went 145

  • @UndoneHaddock im sure it will do more than 100. i've had my silverado 350 pegged off the gauge a few times.

  • @UndoneHaddock #2??? does gas matter when ur driving a 454??

  • @shaneroycrombie 1. sometimes its hard to find a road that lets you go 100 mph

    2. have you ever driven a truck? they get squirrelly around 80

    3. its 0-60 test not a damn top speed run

  • @chinchillawrangler

    1. Hard to find roads? where do you live at? there's freeways, country roads, ect. Not hard to find.

    2. Are you just a shitty driver? I have no problems controlling my truck at high speeds at 100+MPH.

    3. 0-60 runs are just bored to watch, not sure why i wasted my time watching it to begin with.

  • @shaneroycrombie 1. i live in anchorage, ak. we dont have freeways. most of the roads here are fucked up; not straight, bumpy, curvy, filled with thraffic. or just not long enough. id have to go 45 miles out of town to find a good one.

    2. unless you drive a trophy truck or ford raptor then i think youre full of shit.

    3. 0-60 runs are just the standard test man

  • @chinchillawrangler 2. well we live in totally different conditions then, i can see your point. I live in central valley ca, nothing but flat straight empty country roads.

and no way in hell my ranger is a trophy truck, its a pos.

  • this is what i say fuck these rice burners.they are only rev engines.they don't have the cubic inch's to sound good or run worth a damn.it doesn't matter how much top end you have because the other guy driven a big block v8 is already across the finish line.hell do all the top end shit to a v8 you easily push more horses and torque.

  • Oh god that's so awesome!!! I bet he drove straight to the gas station!

  • @88BroughamLS I'm actually driving away from the gas station en route to the next one.

  • @UndoneHaddock i used to have one befor i bought my duramax got 10 mpg. doesnt help either with a 40 gallon tank

  • @UndoneHaddock Tell me about it. I got a '76 with a 454. One of my past times is driving to school and watching the fuel gauge slowly go down during the 8 mile trip.

  • @88BroughamLS hahaha ive done this there geared really low so u cant go that fast soon as u hit 80 u can watch the gas gauge drop lol

  • the only vortec engine that is worth the shit is the 327 5.3... the vortec 350 and 454 are a joke compared to the old ones, chevy dumbed down the horses and and torque because they both had to much stock. the old carb 454 and 350 would smoke any of these vortecs

  • @bigblockpower09 Agree, Those vortec 350's were dogish in Yukons and Suburbans as were/are the Vortec 4.3 in Blazers and Silverados, not to mention the Vortec 4.8 which is kinda dogish too. Don't know why GM put hitch on them, they barely have enough power to move empty.

  • @640101vh i have a 98 Z71 X-cab chevy W/ vortec 350 and 3.42 rear end and have pulled 11,000 lbs with it, its a half ton. it was a heavy load but still pulled it and i have big hills to go up.

  • Even with all of the weight and shit in it, 8 second 0-60 is perfect. Great vid.

  • Damn that pretty fast, I guess it wouldnt be a very good question to ask what kinda MPG? Probably bout 4!

  • thats such a phat power band its pullin so hard at 2000 rpm

  • Too bad its not a Ford, You seem pretty defensive over your truck. Have a excuse for everything.

  • @fordwillkillyou actually I see that as a good thing. (lol dont hate me for it I just felt like writing something)

  • that's pretty decent for how heavy that is...sounds nice too...and im a ford guy...but im kinda like the 454, I got a 36' foot motorhome with a 454 and i can do 80 on the freeway no problem, other than getttin 6 miles to the gallon, with the wind ha

  • mine has 290hp and 410 foot pounds of touque

  • had a 2000 chevy blazer. 4.3L. And I could get 0-60 in 7 seconds. Shifting at 4500 RPM's Instead of 5500

  • @truetoheart44 Funny how that works when it weighs 3000 lbs less.

  • @UndoneHaddock yea my 99 c2500 454 weighs 6,895lbs

  • @truetoheart44 wow man thats awesome you had a v6???? never heard of it!!!

  • @truetoheart44 And sorry, but no person who wants a real truck would be caught dead in a Blazer.

    1998 Suburban 2500 tow capacity- 10,000lbs

    2000 Blazer tow capacity---------------5,900lbs

  • @truetoheart44 Liar.

  • that 454 moves your truck pretty dam good for being a 3/4 ton

  • @lespaul12001 yes it does its amazing i have a 30 foot enclose car trailer and it freakin moves it up mountains like nothing

  • need help please! , i live in scotland and theres a seller down in england selling a 2001 suburban 5.3, i was wonderin if anyone could tell me the performance figures of that model, cause most 4x4s in britain average an apauloing eleven to thirteen seconds to sixty. so for me it would be great if anyone could help thanks.

  • @smitz94 it could probably do it in about 10 stock with bolt ons you could probably get down to 8

  • @1985k20silverado thnks bt too late now it sold :( lmao

  • i have a 99 suburban 454 2500 and its got great pickup and tons of power, im very suprised how good the pickup is and how it drives , i just got it weighed the other day and it weighs just shy of 7000lbs

  • BEAST TO SAY THE LEAST!!!

  • holy crap that was quick

  • LOL gas gauge moving.

    Nice 'burban dude

  • I have a 1998 suburban 5.7 and its fast but yours its a monster now i want one of those heres a question i dont know this model in México did you mod the engine or its from stock?

  • For those of you who dont know chevy gas gauges are know for moving alot with acceleration and braking. I own an 86 camaro 95 chevy 3500 with the 454 and a 96 blazer all three of them I can vary my gas gauge by 1/4 to 1.2 a tank just with acceleration and braking

  • Damn this beast must have 4.10 gears. NIce

  • wow did any one see how he lost alot of gas!!

  • 454 baby I had a 2002 Burb with the 454 Built a tad and it would smoke all those gay ass honda/integra Lovers

  • watch the fuel gauge move.

  • @azannor it actuually did move lmao

  • Wow thats pretty quick for a suburban. See the vid of my 96 doing the same thing with a 6.5 diesel.

  • lol i think i saw your gas guage go down, damn my k2500 suburban with a 350 has alittle more accel than that thow but not much torque

  • dont get me wrong im a chavy truck person too but we nee to see it on the road that was only dash view now can you put it on the street?

  • I had the video up for a while, but I just linked it as a video response if you're interested.

  • not bad at all

  • i got a chevy suburban with a 454 in it and its awsome!!

  • You'd be surprised how many rice burners this thing would eat

  • @bradley26inch Lmao my 'Rice burner' Would fucking rape this shit bahaha...

  • @truetoheart44 fair enough. but another fair question, what could your rice burner as you put it, carry, or pull if need be?

  • @bradley26inch I dont think anyone would be suprised... lol

  • wow, right around 8.0, not bad at all!!

  • Holy hell, that's a fast time for a big heavy SUV.

  • @Elliotfan09 i agree with you because the empty weight of one of these bad boys if around 7000 pounds! thats alot of weight to go that fast!

  • my 1996 chevrolet sububan hits 0 to 60 in 9 seconds and i dont have a 454 i got a 350 lol so i though a 454 would be a lil faster then dis

  • Well this is a 3/4 ton pickup, so it weighs more...

  • do all 2500 suburbans come with 454's? i got a LT.

  • Naw they usually got a 350.Or 305's.Dont know much about em.

  • @oreilly335 never heard of a 4.8 suburban. I have a 02 yukon xl with the 5.3 and I was told that's the smallest they came with. I know the yukon and tahoe had the 4.8 tho. pretty good motors

  • Nooo man theyd be stupid to put a 4.8 in that haus..I was answering that guys question he asked if all 2500 suburbans came with 454's and isaid no i didnt think so..But btw a 305 is a 5.0 not a 4.8 hehe. I think thats probably what you were asking but i think the 4.8 liter is like 294 CI..

  • lol i did forget about the weight differcent ya mines is 1500 and yours is 2500 lol

  • Very nice. Any work done to the motor?? Also I've wanted to put a flow master or banks exhaust set up on mine. Did you yank the cat out?? Or just run the set up from the cat back?

  • what kinda mileage does that thing get

  • if you look real close you can see the gas hand going down to E

  • Cuz the gas is moven nigga - dont be that dumb come on now

  • yep movin right into the intake on that sucker!

  • duceGz iv'e done a 100 mph in a 35 mph zone like nothin in a 5.7 suburban

  • I like a big fat rat under the hood. :)

  • Comment removed

  • yeah for your car... maybe you should try going 100 mph in a SUBURBAN.

  • not in a truck this size you fucking idiot

  • are now dead suburban with 4.11 gears ad 7.4 454 got 4mpg city 11 freeway at 75mph with cruise control set.the 42 gallon tank in spring 08' cost !!!!!!!!!!200 dollars to fill up !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its probably under 2000, I cant really remember the RPMs around the speed limit, only way above. For example, the limiter kicks in at 3.500 RPM which is 100 mph, and 80 is just around 3,000.

  • Thats not bad at all. A Suburban is a vehicle Im looking into buying next. I know I can get a 350 1500 but I cant do that knowing there a 454 option =P

I know this things bad on gas but how bad? Its not going to be my daily driver or anything

  • Its pretty awful. I average about 9 MPG to the tank, that's country roads/highway, and very minimal city driving. I am a bit of a lead foot, but even with cruise control on the highway at ~75 it gets around 14 or 15 MPG.

  • Oh also, if you want the 454, then you have to get the 2500, it wasn't an option on the 1500.

  • I would be more then happy with 15 highway.

Im looking into the Burbs because I was looking into buying an inexpensive minivan because I do charity work but then one day I got bored and noticed Suburbans with the Vortec engine are in the 2500-5000 range easy.

Theres a few 2500 454s within 300 miles of me less the 5 grand.

I know a minivan is more practical, hell a 350 is more practical but the car guy in me wants a 454 =P

  • lol i agree with you, and when you think about it. a good 90's suburban will last you forever, we have a 99 suburban with a plain old 350 in it, and she will still hit 0-60 in about 10-12 seconds, not bad for something that weighs right in at 6800 lbs dry. and when you compare safety, obviously the burban wins, also if you are doing charity work you are going to find it is a better work truck than a mini van will ever be. anyway that's just my two cents.

    ~Frankie~

  • I'm still saving for one. I will get one in the next 2-3 months my heart is set on having one now =P. I figure a Suburban will be a lot of fun to. I always been a drag race type guy and I want to expand my hobbies into the off roading relm and with a 4X4 Suburban I'll have a nice road trip/charity/light off roading vehicle more fun then I can have in a minivan.

  • yea, i hope when you get you're burban, you take good care of her. and she will reward you, also there are alot of people whom of which will actually 6-7inch lift kits on them some rear lockers and heavy duty shocks rollers and tires, and the end result.[i big ass tank that can off road rather good].

  • If you take a peak at my channel you'll see that I love my cars. When I get a Suburban it'll be in very good hands. I actually dont want to lift it too much maybe 2-3 inches and stuff the biggest tires I can in it. I heard too much of a lift with Independant front suspension isnt recommended. Dont know why I'll do more research when I get mine. Im hoping to buy one already lifted since liftings expensive.

  • yea, lifting is really only for older suburbans like 70-89 suburbans. but yea man. since you are good with cars, i think she will run for a very long time, ours only has about 140,000 miles on it but she has alot more in before anything will have to be done. in fact since the 3 yeas of owning it we have only had to replace the fuel pump and u-joint. u-joint was already bad when we got it and the fuel pump wen't out because it was only the second replacment in the trucks life, and winter.

  • Is the fuel pump the Suburbas weak link ? A lot of owners seem to replace the fuel pump. Easy fix?

If I end up enjoying off roading a lot I'll probably do a solid front axle conversion.

  • yea, if yea off road then go with the conversion, and as for the fuel pump. if there was a real weak link on the suburban, then yes it would have to be the fuel pump, luckily the 90s model suburbans fuel pumps are really easy to get access to and fix if needed, they usually don't break unless under certain condition like winter abuse or sometimes off-road, now they are cheap and any mechanic will fix them if you simple choose not to do it you're self. but they are an easy fix.

  • My 93's still running like a champ.

  • and btw if you have not already bought you're suburban the 454 will actually get you decent gas mileage. so i would not worry about it to much, our 350 gets us 18 highway but still hauls ass. and the stock independent suspension should be fine if you only lift it by about 2-3 inches like you had stated. reason being is because of the way it is designed the more lift, more unstable it becomes and more likely it is to actually flip over, anyway hope you get one soon.

  • What RPM at 65 mph? If its under 2000 maybe it can pull off better then 15 if you set cruise at 65?

  • if you look up the 0-60 time it sounds slow but it looks pretty fast but then again the gauge only goes up to 100

  • it hit 0-60 in 9 seconds, and that is very impressive considering it weighs about 6800+ lbs, and who are we joking... its a 454 of course it hauls ass.

  • @fr34kaccident no 7.8

  • Comment removed

  • 454, is a 7.4 liter... lol

  • @floppycock9 the 454 is a 7.4 but it hit 60 in 7.8

  • sorry, amateur mechanic in the learning process, trying to learn all there is to know about all Chevrolet engines.

  • wow. that thing sounds so awesome

Time for a tune and maybe an intake :)
