  • I ordered the part from Amazon-- it cost $65

  • hey do you know what the problem would be? My Tv shows more of a yellow color on it and I dont know what would it be? Sometimes it looks fine but the rest of the time it has more yellow than anything. Can you help

  • Thank you sooo much for this video.. The lamp died a few hours before a big football game where I was having lots of people over, and I was able to get a new lamp and install it in minutes-- you saved the day!!!!!!!

  • @JimTrimingham please tell me where did you get the lamp. thank you very much

  • Sony had a class action suit against them for this TV, we got a new 55" flat screen out of the deal. If it is overheating...unplug the TV and take the back of it off, get some canned air and clean out the dust that is probably built up around the cooling fan...the stuff turns to hard cement on it after time, and if anyone smokes the tar builds up on it as well...blow the whole thing out really well, replace the back and then give it a try...ours was fixed that way....

  • hey i have the same tv as in the video . my problem is green and grey vertical lines going down the screen . it's weird cause every 20 mins or so it will go back to normal then back again . you can still see the picture but with lines through it . any suggestions on what the problem could be ? thanks

  • hi i need HELP.. i just replaced the lamp in my tv but still not working :( .. i did the same thing as you :( HELP

  • also sometimes the same thing happens and the picture will come on for a split second then the TV will turn off. This means your cooling fan is shot. More than likely it is the fan. I replaced my own fan real easy. Been working great every since I did that and after Sony replaced the optical block Via the class action law suit. I'll never buy another rear projection again. Even though this TV still today "Jan 2012" has the best picture of any TV on the market.

  • Thank you very much. My wife is going to be so happy I may get lucky tonight

  • hey guys my tv (sony kdsr60 ) started blinking 4 times(4 times blinking) every time instead of 3 times . After searching found this site. The fan in lower left back is out or needs dusting also easy to do. Here is link to site

  • hi

  • Have no fear when replacing the lamp. ANYONE can do it in 5 minutes. Its plug and play really. Whatever you do, DONT cheap out and buy a Lamp you will regret. Spend the extra cash for a Quality housing / lamp combo. Its worth it in the long run...

  • I got the same tv but it's a 50in. I got a replacement lamp for $65.00 but it didn't work it kept blinking 3 time on the power/ standby red light. Can it be the lamp or could it be something els with the same code? Help please.

  • @grandson306 I had the same exact problem. 3 red blinks means that the lamp module is not getting power. The power connector is at the bottom half of the lamp module when it is in the TV. Take it out and put it back in and give it a good push at the bottom, where the "PUSH" labels are. Make sure it has a good solid connection, and try turning the TV on again. I did that and had a working TV 30 seconds later.

  • Where is the reset button?

  • Just wanted to say thanks! I'm going to do this now, but I feel WAY more comfortable after watching this!

  • thanks :)

  • Glad I saw this as I have been trying to yank my light bulb out of the TV (never got an owners manual, bought a floor model) and the little handle thing to pull the old bulb out was something I would not have pulled up on as you did. That might work. Sadly, I did not get another housing, just a bulb and I have to take the bulb out of that housing to do it. I'm a bit scared to do that, but seeing you take that housing out did help me contemplate what to do next.

  • Worked perfectly- glad I saw this before I paid $400 to the local sony repair guy.

  • I've got a Sony Wega KP-FS57. It started to play up few weeks ago. The annoying green lines on the screen, then last night, rainbow lines appeared. Can you please tell me what lamp number is required. I am in New Zealand. The Sony people here are not service supportive, unless I phone the Japan HQ which I did last time when this tv started to play up, was under warranty.

  • THANK YOU....saved me lots of money.....

  • i got mine in 06 This TV is the best replaced the lamp once works like new, Sony fixed the green chip problem for free. If you can find one its a must buy

  • @MasterJBAll Hi, my SXRD is green too. I called Sony but they didnt help. Should i just replace the bulb? will that fix the problem? thanks!

  • this saved me $300.00

  • my doing that right now thank it help me save money

  • my replacement lamp isnt working its still flashing red. is there such thing as a "defective" replacement lamp, but of course mine is a different kind of sony tv its a lcd projection tv.

  • thanyou for save me money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • where did you get your replacement lamp?? tnx i really need it badly!

  • Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I almost threw out the 60 inch Sony and now I'm sure it's only the bulb, thanks to you. You did a lot of people a big favor by posting that video. All the people with that Sony sxrd that turned green got a new tv out of the class action suit so tell all of the others to file for one.

  • @ladypatm Sony will fix the green problem for free, they did for me.

  • @ladypatm Hi, my SXRD is green too. I called Sony but they didnt help. What do you suggest?

  • @paulperez99 Well, Its not a lamp problem, its a problem with your green chip. you have four chips RED, Blue, Green, White. You need to talk to a TV repair man. That's what i did and he dealt with Sony and fixed it. Good luck with your problem.... The Green blob will spread until it covers the screen. I dont know how much it will cost you cause my was still under warrantie.

  • @paulperez99 Sounds like the optical block...this happened to me within the 1st month of purchase and sony replaced it for free. Out of warranty it will cost you a bit.

  • Thank you sooo much

  • Thank...I appreciate it....

    God Bless

  • otalucard do you still have the lamp if yes how much

  • Comment removed

  • @OTAlucard do you still have the lamp? how much is it? I am a 69 yr old handicapped lady in an electric wheelchair and can't get out of the house to buy things and I don't have that much money to get a new one. The tv was given to me because it turned green but I have cataracs in both eyes and didn't really notice it but the 60 inch let me see the tv good. please contact me at: ladypatm@comcast.net thanks

  • Thank for the video it was really useful. i have the same problem with my T.V. Where can i get the lamp. thanks

  • Thank you, thank, thank you!!!

  • Thanks man...... you rock! I paid $277.00 US to have the bulb in my TV replaced a few years ago. The repair guy was here for 10 minutes and the labor portion of the bill was $100! I knew at 10 minutes it had to be fairly simple, something I can do myself!

Fast forward 4 years and my bulb needs to be replaced again, at least now I can do it myself and save some money. Very important in this economy. Thanks again for the video :)

    Thumbs UP!

  • I always knew this would be fairly simple to complete. Watching this video makes me happy. This guy wasn't even careful.

  • OMG! THANK YOU! my tv has been out for a few weeks. i took out the whole back panel out (not knowing how to find where the lamp is) and thanks to your video and youtube, i know EXACTLY how to fix my tv. i just hope i can find a cheap xl-5100 in my area. thanks again!

  • Hey man where did you get the bulb? I got one form online and it was a piece of shit. It went out aftr having the tv on for 6 hours.

Please get back to me, I'd appricate it man

  • @robinX21 - only buy bulbs from sites that offer at least a 6 month warranty on the bulb. hopefully that means you're gettintg a decent bulb. also - only by by bulbs with the housing and from an OEM (orignal equipment manufacturer) .

do NOT by an OEM equivelant.

  • Thanks to you and your video, I was able to get the job done unassisted. Want to add one thing, though, and you might find it worthwhile to put this info in a balloon box on your video: I tried to test the lamp before replacing the cover and got the depressing flashing red LED again, at first making me think the new lamp was bad. However, I noticed it was now flashing just three times -- sure enough, it won't work without the cover in place. Also, I got mine from mwave.com for just under $75.

  • i have a sony 48" projection tv in my room i just got and the picture looks good like the blue and the green are inline but the red is off some.. on the left of the screen theres a red shaddow below everything and on the right of the screen the red curves down like to the corner of the screen, i tried adjusting the lences and everyone says to get new convergences but do you think that is the problem? only the red is messed up is there an easier fix for my problem?

  • Can anybody point me in the right direction please guys????!!!!

my Sony KDS-R60XBR1 is acting up, tv won't turn on, i just get a continuous flashing red blinking where the lamp signal is. My tv never got any green blobs or anything that will ever affect the picture...it just stopped working.

Will replaceing the lamp solve the issue? what brand to get if so?

    Thank You people.

  • @LocuraBoy2010 - This video tells you precisely the answers to your question. Did you watch it?

  • @LocuraBoy2010 - bulb should solve the problem. sometimes the tv will come on and shut off on it's own and that's a bad bulb too. it could also be a power surge of some kind - unplug your tv and leave it unpluggd for 3 full minutes - plug it back in and see if it works. most likely it's the bulb, though.

  • I just rescued one of these last summer... The owner had just placed it curb-side that morning, citing "Bulb-failure" as the problem. He said it cost a lot to get it repaired last time, and the repairman said the life of the lamp is about 8hrs. daily, for 3yrs. (Do the math!) I feared it would be difficult to do myself, from what I've seen in servicing the optical-block, but now it looks easier than changing the plugs on my truck. Thanks, man! Now to go do it!

  • I have the sane problem but I need more help putting in the new lamp. Will you please help
