The rich don't want more competition. Generally the capitalist class is interested in raising the plight of the poor from subsistence to minimal self-sufficiency. With a working class securely embedded within a proscribed hierarchy, anti-competitive collusion by the capitalist class ensures an oligopoly on power, opportunity and structure. The obvious fact is that meritocracy is rarely more than a myth.
Well, all that sounds well and good except for the fact that the game is rigged, the fix is in. The system is designed for you to fail. You sit there with that oh so disingenuous smile saying "just.. just WORK HARDER!" It is analogous to the slave master beating the drum for the rowers on a ship. Most people struggle to have the simplest things in life and yet when we ask for a level playing field we are labeled with an entitlement mentality?
The real issue here is that the wealthy want to go out and buy their yachts and mansions and live like useless socialites that do nothing but party.
AKA Martin Sheen, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears.
Meanwhile, hardworking and bright individuals that have nothing to their name would die for just enough money to go through college and make a meaningful contribution.
The rich are only crying because unequal tax brackets means they STILL have to work. Get over it!
Are you REALLY going to tell me that poor Paris Hilton EARNED a dime?
You're crying about stealing the incentive to be bright, creative, and hard-working. Can you really tell me that keeping that tax money in Paris' hands will even get her to do something meaningful, other than getting drunk and appearing on camera sucking dlck?
Equal tax brackets only serve to keep the lazy offspring of the wealthy, wealthy, and the hard-working kids of the poor, poor.
The quality of education and political connections which secure good jobs are very different between the wealthy and the poor.
Some of the brightest and hardest-working individuals come from the lower class. And some of the dumbest and most useless dead weight comes from the wealthy (e.g. Paris Hilton)
Unequal tax brackets pays dividend by putting a little money in the hands of those who need it to go far, by taking it from those who will waste it (e.g. Paris Hilton)
Clearly, our country needs some regulation and some freedom. You can go right (no regulation with corporate greed as a guide) or total regulation (the government tells everyone and every business what they should or shouldn't do). Either way, the answer is in the middle......some regulation and some freedom. Hmmmm...sounds like the buddhist philosphy of the middle way rather than the "strive for perfection" and "run from imperfection" ideals of Christianity which obligates you to choose one!
Please... The American Dream is myth propagated by the owners of the means of production. They tell you you can get anything you want by working hard. Tell that to the people who work at Wal-Mart who work until they die for pennies. Tell that to factory workers who work until they drop dead because fair wages and human dignity are a threat to the owner's profits. The people propagating the lies are people who are rich because they play the stock market instead of working!
@commissarusa I agree. The dirty secret of Capitalism is that collective labor power or more generally capital gains are commodities that can be owned, with the right of exclusion. Often capitalists will deny the existence of a Common Good while at the same time exploiting creative production, state legislation and the capacity of the environment to absorb inefficiencies. To get a real sense of the methods of capitalism, we must first do a full cost accounting of a particular market.
We dont start out equally. Your diatribe would have to resolve this fundamentally problematic issue. And, holy shit, a supposed PhD, cites Ayn Rand. Pathetic indeed. Not exactly part of the cannon of American political intellectualism. This tragic dipshit is quoting Rand. Oh my god.
Paulson's idea works something like this: We are all born equal and should not be taxed for dying. The one with the most cash at the end wins. What he fails to tell you about the game is that some people get to start on third base while the rest get to start on home plate - without a bat. Call it "Just-Us"

Hey asswipe:
While you're crying about the unequal tax brackets, there are
(a) Financial corporations who drive us to the 'Great Recession' and should no longer exist - but do because of our tax dollars
(b) Car companies who should have gone out of business, but didn't - because of our tax dollars
(c) multi-billion $ corporations on 'corporate welfar' who do not have to pay taxes - like General Electric this past year.
But YOU're crying about tax inequality?

Earning gets you no where. That's why they call it a road-that-leads-to-no-where- dead-end-job.
