Ahhhhhh! So, THIS is the Pen Pen dancing thing that my friend told me about. I'm not the least bit surprised. She's done TONS of things out of the ordinary, but not to a point where she would REALLY get herself in trouble... as far as I know.
1. That room couldn't sit half that many - hell, the attendence was only 1600 that year, IIRC.
2. If you think otaku are that kind of nerd, you must only know narutards and DBZ freaks. Many anime cons have to try to stop people from doing hall cosplay in body paint and pasties. (or less - one year at Acen a teenage girl cosplayed Rei in her "towel and panties" getup from one episode, until made to go back to her room by con staff and hotel security).
Is this what cons were like back then? I'm going to my first one this January because all of the vids I've seen on YouTube make cons look like a lot of fun...but do you mean to tell me that they had stripping women back then!?
Wow. It's like ALL the eva VA cast, sans Asuka, are totally different people than their character's. Gendo is a jolly fat guy, Shinji is a black-belt who hates whiny people, Rei has no reservations about stripping with a giant penguin... Need I go on?

If it wasn't for the game Oni I wouldn't even know who that crazy penguin-strippin' middle-aged lady is. I hate anime but I gotta admit there's quite the interesting freaks in there. :3
Yeah, and that's true. but she was quite the hellraiser back before she became a mother. Then again, there were a lot of American guests of the male variety that made Amanda's Acen antics tame by comparison. For example, the one Amerimanga artist that routinely invited people to sleep in his room, and gave out "I slept with _________" shirts to those that did (and the definition of "slept with" varied from person to person).
Said shirt was actually made out like a "Concert tour" shirt, with all the cons the artist in question had committed to appearing, on the back - and he took several of the shirts to give out at each convention....
Then of course, if you can find the tale, there is the infamous "Vegetarian Haggis" incident of Anime USA (early to mid 90s, not sure of exact year).

Oh, yeah. I have THAT t-shirt that you're speaking of. Actually, it was a friend of his that had those shirts made as a joke. He thought it was funny, and went along with it. :)

The fact she voiced the stoic and enigmatic Rei Ayanami who was the key to Instrumentality makes this even funny than it all ready is.
