@Paddabult1 yes! It's strange that in the DVD extras, Wim Wenders says that "this location, this bridge does not exist anymore, it's been torn down and been replaced by a modern bridge"
I first saw this movie in San Francisco- I was so stunned when I came out into sun shine, I almost didn't know where I was. I went back at least one more time and now own it on DVD. Absolutely the most poetic and beautiful film I have ever seen, and one of the most hopeful, not to mention funny in so spots. The scene where he 'falls', waking to colour is one of my favorites in the film.
good old BERLIN!! This is the town i grew up, but unfortunately it changes into a city of turist and yuppies which have to much money =(. The alternativ cultere dies slowly
Wim Wenders at his best with Der Himmel uber Berlin", Wings of Desire, Les Ailes du Desir, reminding us of many things, including that there was a moment when there were two Germanies, two Berlins, two worlds in a cold war and, in this scene, that there are so many gorgeous things in our lives to remember...
My favourite scene in this movie ... amazingly rendered by Wim Wenders. Sends chills down my spine whenever I watch this. Extremely touching. I *LOVE* Damiel's soliloquy as he tends to (and then leaves the scene of) the motorcycle accident victim and begins traversing across the bridge: "The spots of the first drops of rain." "The sun." "The bread and wine." "Hopping." "Easter." "The veins of leaves." "The blowing grass." "The color of stones." "The pebbles on the stream's bed."
One of the most beautiful, moving scenes in any movie that I've ever seen - heartbreaking and affirming at the same time.

The Selling of Self
(Or who is it by?)
Who -
Who, indeed?
That is the quest for you and me.
If I were but a shadow fall,
Would I say anything of me at all?

Final Collection
Ebbing of a life -
Waning of weary strife -
Weaving paths of portraits.
Beauty in and out of line,
In the crossing of the straits -
A recollection - mine
Till total tumbling of time,
And an end to life's debate.

Love this scene. Perhaps the best in the movie. Pure poetry, both words and film.
