Early on in the cartoon, both the Autobots and the Decepticons are known to the human race. Seeing them becomes more of an everyday occurance, than a surprise for the humans, after a while. The humans are also on good terms with the Autobots, allowing them to build Autobot City in the 12 year interlude after Season 2 and before the Movie.
Actually, in the cartoon, humans appeared regularly in the plot, but apart from Spike, Carly, Sparkplug and Chip they were often guest characters like the Mayor or a random Scientist. However, more character focus was on the Transformers. As for the whole WOPR detecting the Autobot City Battle, they likely did pick it up, but decided not to get involved as it was the Autobot's fight and there were no nearby human cities Civilians to protect. Concluded in next comment.
It's hard trying to take various elements of various transformers cartoons and movie try to make it realistic and cool as you can and make a cool movie. Bay deserves a 7/10 on that.

The only thing I disagree with in this review is that the Transformers 1986 movie had a couple season to develop and tell the stories of the personalities of characters, so cramming them all in the movie was fine. Where in the 2007 movie much of the audience didn't know too much about the G1 Cartoon so cramming them all into that film wouldn't work because it would be too hard to develop them all. So it's really not fair to compare the two.

The writer, Roberto Orci said in an interview that he would like to introduce Unicron in the third film for scale's sake (notice each film gets darker and bigger, what with Revenge of the Fallen introducing the Fallen and Devastator). Michael Bay is interested in introducing a transforming aircraft carrier, (I know awesomeness!) but personally I have high hopes for an appearance from Astrotrain! Bay wasn't keen on the Dinobots, but knows that they're fan favourites, so who knows.

The only problem I have with your analysis is that you're comparing one film to the other, but really you needed to look at the first 3-parter of the original G1 cartoon and draw your parallels. By the time the animated film was released there had already been 2 seasons of back story released.

They fixed the illogical physics but made an illogical story with illogical robots that illogically vanish during the story which basically doesn't exist. Bay only does action. Orci and Kurtzman are just generic Hollywood writers. Combine the together and you get Unicrap. Sadly this movie should be called Teen Boy Trying To Get Laid (Robots Included) or Megatron Becomes A Sympathetic Pussy. The REAL Megatron would've just killed the kid, took the cube, and won. Thats not true, Optimus pulled a piece of the all spark out of Megatrons chest when it was all over and they could easily make something of that if they really wanted to. You also see Starsceam zoom off into space during the credits, wasn't he always the ambitious character? I'm sure that the humans not actually destroying the bodies can play a significant roll too, even if they've supposedly been crushed.

Yeah but the action didn't really occur until after 80 minutes. The real fight took place first with Optimus and another decepticon which lasted for 5 seconds when Optimus just thrust his sword into the decepticons head. If I wanted to see heads flying, I'd watch Aragorn kill Orcs or Spartan fight Persians.
The action sucked. Half the time you could tell who was who and where they were being hit. Fergie's boyfriend and his entourage were killing most of the autobots.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Optimus died before Megatron turned into Galvatron. Hence, as far as I know, there is no way Optimus could have showed up at a battle with Galvatron in the 1986 movie.
That was great review. Especially part about Megatron (Welker would be better, and design was worst in the whole movie). And it actually was a prologue to next movie as reviewer said.
Devastator was a big ass robot made up of all the Constructicons together in the original. Brawl was the tank, and he was a Combaticon - that group that formed Bruticus.
I also wanted to say that they should have taken a page out of Floro Dery's book of transformer design and created faces that looked a little more humanoid. Something people can see a little of themselves in.
That was one of the unrealistic things about the old TV show. Take Arcee. She could be perfectly imitated by a transfan in a weird suit, wearing white makeup. Of course, they could have given the robots holographic faces, as in i, Robot, but maybe Michael Bay was to busy making THE ISLAND and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR to see i, Robot.
First of all, I really like the preview review. I think it was really on the money.
I just wanted to say that I don't think people realize that the same technology that could make robots sentient beings could probably allow them to travel through hyperspace or rearrange their molecular structure to take on smaller or larger shapes. So it would be totally logical for megatron to turn into a hand-held weapon.
Truth is, for me, I knew very little about the Transformers before I saw this movie (except for the Autobot symbol, which I thought was something exclusive to Optimus Prime at the time). At any rate, the movie was a great thing to watch, and it took me quite a bit to look up old Transformer cartoons on Youtube to watch and I was suprised at how good the original cartoon was.

I was thinking what you said if they would have taken Optimus out of the movie. If they would have done that, then named the movie "Go-Bots", then it probably would've made like 10x more money at the box office.

I didn't go to the theaters to see this movie, though I grew up on the Transformers. But I wait for movies like this to come out on DVD. 3 years and 6 months isn't long to wait.

They fixed the illogical physics but made an illogical story with illogical robots that illogically vanish during the story which basically doesn't exist. Bay only does action. Orci and Kurtzman are just generic Hollywood writers. Combine the together and you get Unicrap. Sadly this movie should be called Teen Boy Trying To Get Laid (Robots Included) or Megatron Becomes A Sympathetic Pussy. The REAL Megatron would've just killed the kid, took the cube, and won. This Megatron ball dicks too much.

The G1 cartoons had the same thing. Transformers in disguise on Earth. But you see the Transformers 90% of the time on screen and human characters for 10% of the time on screen.
The movie is suppose to be about them. Not people. There was a scene with "masturbation talk" What the fk does that have anything to do with Transformers????

but anyway my main point is that they COULD leave the movie like this, its not an open ending, starscream could have been just getting the fuck outta here, and YES, the deceptacons were DESTROYED then DROPPED into the fucking ocean where they were CRUSHED more and FROZEN
now to me.......that doesnt sound like a setup for a sequel, but they are still making one i guess

Thats not true, Optimus pulled a piece of the all spark out of Megatrons chest when it was all over and they could easily make something of that if they really wanted to. You also see Starsceam zoom off into space during the credits, wasn't he always the ambitious character? I'm sure that the humans not actually destroying the bodies can play a significant roll too, even if they've supposedly been crushed.
Hollywood likes to leave open ends for sequels all the time =P

Yeah but the action didn't really occur until after 80 minutes. The real fight took place first with Optimus and another decepticon which lasted for 5 seconds when Optimus just thrust his sword into the decepticons head. If I wanted to see heads flying, I'd watch Aragorn kill Orcs or Spartan fight Persians.
The action sucked. Half the time you could tell who was who and where they were being hit. Fergie's boyfriend and his entourage were killing most of the autobots.

their history is waste (but in my heart, g1 transformers is the only real history (ok, forget about all the errors... but they are good for a laugh ;)
i'm kind of disapointed by the movie, we can barely see the robots and when you see them, it's dark or it's close up or either they are at full speed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Optimus died before Megatron turned into Galvatron. Hence, as far as I know, there is no way Optimus could have showed up at a battle with Galvatron in the 1986 movie.

Devastator was a big ass robot made up of all the Constructicons together in the original. Brawl was the tank, and he was a Combaticon - that group that formed Bruticus.

That was one of the unrealistic things about the old TV show. Take Arcee. She could be perfectly imitated by a transfan in a weird suit, wearing white makeup. Of course, they could have given the robots holographic faces, as in i, Robot, but maybe Michael Bay was to busy making THE ISLAND and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR to see i, Robot.

First of all, I really like the preview review. I think it was really on the money.
I just wanted to say that I don't think people realize that the same technology that could make robots sentient beings could probably allow them to travel through hyperspace or rearrange their molecular structure to take on smaller or larger shapes. So it would be totally logical for megatron to turn into a hand-held weapon.

Truth is, for me, I knew very little about the Transformers before I saw this movie (except for the Autobot symbol, which I thought was something exclusive to Optimus Prime at the time). At any rate, the movie was a great thing to watch, and it took me quite a bit to look up old Transformer cartoons on Youtube to watch and I was suprised at how good the original cartoon was.

Transformers 2007 was awsome! Effects top notch, story good - and when people say it sucked - how can it - the story is about cars and planes turning into robots and beating the hell out of each other!!! lol
