I find both american and british version really funny. I love Ryan and Colin, but episode without them can also be a grat one. And Tony is just brilliant! Maybe not exactly in this one, but generally.
you have to understand this was before the american version. this type of stuff had not been done before, it was new ground on telly. A newer british version would also be better; all comedy in the 1980s was a bit hit and miss, as there was a new breed with "the young ones" etc who were completely different from the traditional crap sitcoms and gag-telling standup. It's like comparing "the office" to "the golden girls"
90s comedy was fantastic in the UK. Panel based shows like this, Have I Got News For You, Shooting Stars, They Think It's All Over and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. It's very much a British sense of humour because it tends to make fools of those on the show, unlike the American one which would pair up Ryan & Colin endlessly, and make Wayne sing because it was their strengths. The US version doing the same themes and having the same 6 or 7 guests was what killed it.
What's here is quite funny, especially the "To Be Or Not To Be"-song and the arrogant "I've been in the business FORTY YEARS!"-actor. As hilarious as the US version is, I can't say I've seen anything quite like this on that show...
Eh... There not as good as the US Version.

He's only won awards for Best Entertainment Presenter and Personality of the Year. Obviously there's something likeable about him.

@Jakerinthebox that's Michael McShane, he's done alot of things but whose line was definitely his best.
