A suggestion, if you continue: once you know the Romanian for something, don't bother repeating the English to yourself. You already know it all in English, and every time you switch back to English you risk losing the mindset of being "in Romanian mode." That's my experience, anyway.

romanian language is not a mix of old latin words,it does have words that are derived from latin like all the romance languages(italian,spanish,port­uguese,french,romanian) he has slavic influences but there are very few words and they aren't used very often.

i don't undesratand anything from serbian,bulgarian,ukrainian,ru­ssian and the other slavic languages but i do undersatand italian very good,some spanish and portuguese,a little french.

If you like Romanian it will be easy for you to learn Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, french and even Latin :). Romanian language has warm sounds and that makes it pleasant to hear..

Step one, meet a Romanian girl in America. lol Well, or a guy.. lol Actually, to be honest, one thing that has really helped me is listening to a LOT of Romanian music, and just practicing a lot. Get yourself a English-Romanian dictionary, and just try to learn new words a lot. It takes a lot of practice. Pimsleur makes a Romanian audio course, and there are some others. Rosetta Stone would be great if they had it. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you would feel comfortable or not but you can google a romanian church in your area and call and ask if they have a romanian tutor or professor in their community, I'm sure you'll find someone that would be glad to help you (especially an American!) and wouldn't mind making a few extra bucks. :) Or make a Romanian friend- there are thousands of us in America. We're scattered all over America (in packs, most likely :). haha

Actually UraniumMan, I think you are right. Though I've never heard anyone say "bre" it says in my Romanian dictionary that it is used to address people, to get their attention. However, it is more common to say "măi" which is like "yo" in English
