  • i know neil probably didn't mean it like this but when i listen to hey hey my my (electric version) i think of it being about music, but when i hear this version even though the lyrics are the same i get a feeling that it's about life

  • one of the most moving pieces of music i've ever heard. nothing to me has ever been as simultaneously beautiful and gut-wrenching as this song. everything neil says is prolific and carries weight.

  • I didn't know Roger Waters can play Drums in this song!? Wow

  • Everything dies yet it goes into something else... Formed yet formless.

  • How the fuck is this not the most viewed song on youtube?

  • Which harmonica do I need to play this great song...

  • 93 people faded away...

  • Hate to say it, but Rock&Roll IS DYING. We need more artists like Neil Young. save rock and roll.

  • 93 People were gone ... but not forgotten !!!

  • @limbo10000 , your close , 93 people are fucks!!

  • Bless you Sir

  • When Neo freed me from the matrix, this was the first song I heard...so this is what real music sounds like...wow :)

  • _____________< (insert comment about how im young and like old music)

  • I just like to listen to this song with my old dog sitting at the foot of my chair.

  • The irony is he introduces himself, see.

Anyway, this song ALWAYS tears me down and builds me back up. Matter and anti-matter in song.

  • This is music.

  • Justin Beiber hired 92 people to dislike this :(

  • any sauce?

  • prefiero la de la renga

  • This song is awesome!

  • so fucking good its scary

  • Unfortunatly Neil, rock has died :(

  • @MrRonique It hasn't died. Anybody watching this video is proof of that. I know plenty of people who listen to old rock too.

  • Neil caters to fools

  • @Syzygy60 Your either confused or a troll.

  • I realized I was wrong

  • IU used to be a Neil Young Deciple

  • neil lies rock can die...why should we listen to more when he proved he is failable?

  • bring it on!

  • sons of anarchy send me here

  • THINK ABOUT THIS if we needed and had a farm aid in a couple of years , would it be justin beiber and kesha?? if it is, then kill me! HEY HEY, MY MY, ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE!!!

  • @LambOfGod752 took me here, cheers bra :)

  • 92 people have misstyped youporn

  • "It's better to burn out

Than to fade away" - Kurt Cobain, on his suicide note... Phrase taken from this song.

RIP Cobain and Hail to the Grunge Godfather and Guitar God Neil Young!

  • AWESOME CHANNEL!!! ROCK ON NEIL! YEAH!!!!

  • what key is the harmonica in?

  • @jarden69, music evolves.

  • @emmarose3005 evolution it means it gets better..music today is just changed its going down...the max point was reached now its declin

  • That's PURE TALENT tight there.

It saddens me that Neil was wrong...Rock & Roll is dying, if not dead already with these kids today and their music. So few are struggling to keep Rock alive, but it's telling that the popular acts today are the bands I grew up with in the 70's. WHERE are TODAY'S Led Zeppelin's? Aerosmith's? Bad Company's? Van Halen's? They do not exist

  • @jarden69 Today the huge music corporations that signed those bands only sign bland, cookie-cutter acts that won't be the catalyst nor van guard for counter-culture movements, thus today ALL of the talent is in underground music.

It's also hard for mainstream rock to continue on when Nirvana, Sublime, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and other similar bands from the 90's all either burned out or had their wells of creativity dry out.

  • @btuc401 you obviously havent listend to backspacer by PJ then. and STP's last album was awesome. Foo Fighters. just a few example.

check out a new band called CAVO.

  • @musiclover2161 I respect your taste, but those bands just don't do it for me anymore ( their old music from the 90's always will, though). I don't just like a collection of riffs with drumming and vocals, I like creativity and direction in music, especially albums, so PJ, STP and Foo Fighters just don't cut it anymore. All three of them have dried up, in my opinion, and the latter has gone far too commercial and generic for my tastes. I prefer raw, thought-invoking music, hence the NY video. =]

  • @btuc401 u be an ass

  • @7146533 truth hurts, doesn't it?

  • @7146533 How so?

  • @btuc401 Well said man but you forgot The Cult.

  • @btuc401 There is also great music being done today by artists signed in major labels, think arcade fire, the national, modest mouse....

Music corporations have always signed more the safe bets (the bland ones), this isnt anything new.

  • @thoracitor "I prefer raw, thought-invoking music, hence the NY video."

  • rotten johnny ; *

  • they fergit yer name...

  • 最高だ。自分のJ200で唄いたい。

  • muito bom..

  • best artist ever..

  • La renga sounds better than this version

  • @Edikosh It must be a joke. Get back and keep listening to watchiturros. Stupid argentinian soccer fan.

  • Probably another bogus charity "FarmAid", just like the FBI statistics, that crime in 2011 is going down. Its all about the money, as it was back then, its even more so today, Nothings Changed, except The Government Mafia (italian Mafia, Russian (Jewish) Mafia, American Mafia morphed into 1 Mafia), got much more corrupt!. in 2011!!! When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. Thomas Jefferson

  • Says it all when ppl still commenting on it. Man is a legend... Also Noel Gallaghers version is gd

  • God bless you Neil.

  • johnny rotten in his lyrics i think doesnt mean the sex pistols singer, it's like a term.. like maybe 'peeping tom'? i thought this song was for kurt cobain.. and the johnny rotten he's talking about his kurt if im not mistaken.. i dont know.. dont be jumpin at me if im wrong you lil youtube faggots peace

  • @shyamurai It was written before Kurt, but he made more of a emphasis on the lyric "Once Your Gone You Can't Come Back" when Kurt died. But its is Johnny Rotten from the Pistols. "The Kids Gone But Not Forgotten" is about how John Lydon got rid of the sorta Johnny Rotten name and persona. The Johnny Rotten persona being the "Kid" but the image never forgotten

  • @shyamurai

no its about the famous Johnny Rotten. The whole song is about struggling to stay in the eye of the public while being a musician,

  • I'm 18.. i don't give a shit about any thing.. this is a MASTERPIECE!!

  • I was there. First row

  • How can one man be so F***ing good ???

  • One look in his eyes

and you can tell that's true.

  • he's so grunge

  • Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), singer for the Sex Pistols is very much alive.

  • The voice...right through your heart...

  • God Bless Neil Young!

  • started getting chillls at the 3 minute mark

  • damn, where's my lighter? yeeeeeeaaah

  • what a good lyrics, its better to burn out than to fade away!old sodiers never die,

  • since i was 13 .loved him,now 40 still same

    power

heroin addict,so what, look what he did

    good example

  • i like this song by neil young i seeing him in moblie la a few years back when i was driving truck i was an asshole to him cause my truck broke down but know im goin to say sorry again

  • @ geflad ~ you are delusional to think Noel Gallagher's version of anything is better then Neil's version...AT ANY AGE! I get goosebumps at the 2 minute mark of this version every time I hear it. That said...glad to see the youngins discovering real rock.

  • This song is so great I just called 1800farmaid and donated my whole paycheck. whats amazing is that a masterpiece like this is still giving goosebumps 40 years laters, and people like me are STILL shaking their heads in disbelief of how someone could possess so much talent.

  • I want this sung at my funeral. I will always love Neil.

  • fucking BRILLIANT

  • you gotta hate americans. they just can't shut the fuck up. not even once.. screaming idiots.

  • @swunt10

    Someones an ignorant prick.

  • "My my, hey hey

Rock and roll is here to stay

    Hey hey, my my

Rock and roll will never die" :)

  • The acoustic version, which this is, is called my my hey hey.

  • yeah its hey hey my my but still awesome

  • Sooo soooo goooood......

  • i'm pretty sure it's called, hey hey my my. not my my hey hey

  • γαματος

  • Absolute masterclass, a genius at his most pure.

  • hello music this is fan. please bring back the harmonica k thx.

  • this guy is so soulful, aware of problems in life, smart as all get out, building a FAST car, and he sings to my ears better than anyone. I love his pronouncing of R's.......he's cool...

  • love this song

  • Hey Im 14 and I like this song..arent I the greatest? I like to broadcast my age to the whole youtube world in a quest for recognition and acceptance..I beg you..please pay attention to me!!

  • @Drew00621 you know what im only 20 and take pride in the fact that im not sucked into todays meaningless music, if anything you should be happy that theres still some hope left with the kids like us.

  • @JXN091 Im pleased that young people appreciate great music. Just dont know why they feel the desperate need to broadcast their age.hey do you know where I can find a studio version of this song on youtube?

  • gran cancion!

  • Why is there an American flag next to Neil's name? Neil Young is representing the Northerners from CANADA!

  • @hpbn92 That's the Farm Aid logo...

  • I just posted a version of this song

  • cool song

  • I was at this concert... a senior at Purdue University at the time (what seems like a million years ago), made a road trip with my frat brothers to the concert. Amazing show. And I specifically remember this performance Neil Young is an american classic. Not the best "singer" in history, but a true classic - singer, songwriter, poet. God bless you, Neil

  • I love this, but I can't help thinking Noel Gallagher's version is better.. I suppose it's more because of my age (17), but I suppose that's one of the great things about artists doing covers 'cause before I heard Noel's version I'd never heard of Neil Young, and now I'm a massive fan!

  • @geflad it is amazing oasis did a great job but i love the original acoustic my self

  • @geflad probably had something to do with noel gallagher had a band with him. im personally partial this..

  • @geflad different? maybe, better? impossible. the only one that makes better neil young versions, is neil young. covers arent better, they are different. that applies to all.

  • neil young is a god!

  • Großartig!

  • obviously this was written before Kurt's suicide but I can't help think about him when I hear "the king is gone but he's not forgotten."

  • @FeelingEternal I always assumed he meant Elvis

  • @terryfink well it's not Kurt for sure, it's just how I like to hear it :p

  • @FeelingEternal no I know! haha.. I'm not even sure I am right, that's just how I hear it. :)

  • wow.

  • it's better to burn out than to fade away

  • fuck, every time this song make me cry.

  • Happy Birthday Neil!! Beautiful Song.. Thank you for the years of beauty.

  • Neil Young will always be remembered for his outstanding performances...he is a poet of music!!!!!

  • He has a dark soul, just like me, but he's trying some companinions to go with him... will leave that for a while...

  • tremenda

  • baller!

  • muito foda

  • Funny how we have to have Farm Aid to save the average American farmer who is just trying to get by, when we give agriculture giants like ADM, Cargill and others billions in subsidies to put him out of business so that they can buy the land cheap.

  • It really is brilliant.

  • Easily one of the best live videos I've seen :D

  • This guy has inspired so many artists

Maybe you will also like "Back on the Road" by Dan Sabathie

  • If this doesnt make the hairs on your neck stand up, you have no soul!

  • @officermahoney1182 It probably would if I could hear it. T_T

  • @officermahoney1182 Actually, it means they have no hair.

  • @officermahoney1182 it would when it would be a better quality :/ there was one on yt but now its gone heh.. copyright bullshit..

  • @officermahoney1182 Chills. I have chills watching this amazing performance.

  • @markoskar75 I got the chills too. espically when he uses the harmonica

  • Great!

  • Sorry - I was drunk - I meant to write - You pay for this and they give you that - the rock n roll gods will never forgive me for this

  • you paid for this but they gave you that - perfect no matter the era - the little man always getting screwed

  • pure feelings, got chills

  • farm aid great cause

  • great cover from justin bieber

  • Fucking incredible, thank you!

  • Neil at his best. Wish I could see the rest now.

  • Unintelligible gibberish, prefacing a storm of caterwauling, (un)harmonica screeching and high-pitched whining more worthy of a transgendered trollop pushed into a gutter after swallowing gallons of cum from multiple wayward gentlemen after a night of depraved abandon in several of the seedier establishments on the dark outskirts of the shining city on the hill.

James!! Scuttle your way to me quickly now, man!

Bag that cat Nelly Young tonight. Here's a stout bat. Beat the daylights out of her!

  • @FuckngBastard well now we know what you do on your weekends.

  • @FuckngBastard at least you named yourself aptly

  • @FuckngBastard always good to see some twat that knows nothing about music on here thanks.

  • Brings back lots of great memories watching the video not to mention Neil is amazing, I seen Neil performed at least three times and they were exveptional. As time goes by he is still active and his voice is still great!!!
