LMAO I remember seeing the movie on Television but my Mother turned it off because she was disgusted by the scene with the TV gushing Chocolate and beans out at Ann Margaret.
In March 25, 1975 , I went to the premier of Tommy the movie. I saw the all the stars in the movie execpt the one I hope to see and that was Elton. I spent all my allowance those tickets. I had a great time even thou I was disappointed.
This was Elton at the peak of his career as an ARTIST. His popularity probably rose even more since then, but that was because he was largely playing generic pop for the masses from about 1977 on.
@phillylily412: I nearly always prefer the original to a copycat version, but I agree with you completely. This version is better than the one by The Who, even though their version is also fabulous. A coworker who really knows music claims that even Roger Daltrey conceded that Elton's version was better. I have no idea if that is true.
This song and Phila. Freedom are not only my two favorite Elton songs, but also two of my alltime favorite songs by anyone. Thanks for posting, "sydlivy." Music is fabulous on this version.
One on the few instances in which the cover is as good as the original. My Opinion.

This Version rocks. Sorry Who. I like this one better, and was the highlight of the movie which sort of sucks.

First heard Elton's version of this song in the movie Tommy, and I still love it! I'd prefer this one than the original by The Who.
