  • These welders are great. I just built a really nice roof rack for my jeep out of some bed frame angle iron and some tubing. I use Lincoln wire....a lot less slag and smoother welds. I never go lower then 6 on mine though, I like to penetrate deep...lol. So if you need a welder and just do projects here and there this is perfect.

  • @maniacalmango Good to hear!

  • @cameramonkey2 Yeah

  • I'm looking at getting into welding. Do you think this welder would be good for small auto projects? (battery bays, seat mounts, fender welds, etc) ? I'm entirely newbie status so I figure starting with a welder like this would be a good way to learn without diving into something crazy expensive. Nice video by the way.

  • @koihoshi It would be fine for that. Just watch welding really thin (burns through easy since there isn't much control when not using gas).

  • @Johnnysshop what gauge metal was used in this video? I need to weld a bit on sheet metal that will be 22/24 gauge and since I will probably only weld this once in a very long time I don't see spending $300+ on a MIG welder to be a smart idea. Would this work on thinner sheet metal like 22-24 gauge?

  • @koihoshi

  • @koihoshi got one myself. best part about it is that you can get a 2 year warranty on it for $20 and they will take it back no questions asked for any issue. even better is with a new unit the 2 year warranty restarts

  • buy lincoln 0.35 wire it wont turn out so ugly

  • @TheInfotwins I've since tried that and you are correct.

  • @Johnnysshop yea man i have been there too it can still be dificult with that welder

  • @TheInfotwins True. A true mig with gas is the only way to go. I just don't weld enough to justify it.

  • @Johnnysshop me to man no more than i weld i cant bring myself to throw the money out there

  • @TheInfotwins buy a lincoln and use HF wire!!!!

  • make sure your welding gloves are fire proof, my princess auto ones caught on fire when using the o/a torch......

  • @tbndeereman75 Good question... I think they are. LOL

  • @Johnnysshop there were not any flames, but they were smouldering.

  • @tbndeereman75 Still a bit scary!

  • This vid helped me alot and who cares about sloppy welds they can always be cleaned up with a grinder!!

  • @pownallcross Thanks!

  • sorry for the double post. do you mind deleting one?

  • Wow dude, I had no idea you had such a nice channel! I had to Sub ya'...very broad spectrum! keep the great videos commin'. By the way, I have this Welder also! actually I modified an old rusty flat-bed, fenderless, farm trailer into a really nice Trailer! I used this 90 amp (easy Mig 100) to do all the welding! (The 2" x 2" square tube all the way around, and the expanded metal) .......well, If you don't mind Johnny?

  • @MrHarborFreight Man that is a really nice trailer! How long did it take ya to do all that work?

  • @Johnnysshop Thank You kind Sir! Believe it or not, it only took me 3 days. I remained dedicated to the project with no distractions. I am not totally done. I plan on installing an electric trailer jack and build car ramps (to haul my Son's Camaro we are building). I am glad you appreciate it! I have another welder from HF (220 volt, 110 amp, dual mig (gas or no gas) welder. I will be able to weld really thicker metal now! Gonna' also build a storage cage up front and about 4 ft. tall! Enjoy!

  • @MrHarborFreight 3 days is smoking! I tend to wonder off on projects and take twice as long. LOL

  • @Johnnysshop Don't feel bad Man! I USUALLY get distracted, but got lucky on this one! lol! btw....I am gonna' post .wood working projects I have done and will do, are on the way soon! I'll let ya' know when I post em'. have a great one! Every Day is A Holiday! Every Meal is A Banquet!....smile

  • @MrHarborFreight LOL.. Sounds good!

  • i got one and i love it , i use it for work and it works just fine.

  • @JohnyFear Yeah, it's great to have around the house.

  • Does this welder run on 110?

  • does it still work

  • @DanOlooney Yeah, just used it last month.

  • @EvansAutoShop I forget the size. I didn't use the HF wire. I was using Lincoln.

  • what wire were you using? the stuff it comes with is junk.

  • @jessestylex LOL.. Yeah, it is. I'm using Lincoln wire.

  • I'm no expert either, but i saw at the beginning, the welder pushed your hand back. I believe that's caused by not cleaning the metal well enough? I always take an angle grinder quickly to the surfaces I'm mating. Also after you tack, I believe you should start on the edges and make your way in to keep from blowing through the metal.

  • @xamboozi I think it was clean, I believe the ground area wasn't clean enough. It was a few years ago, I don't remember that far back..

  • Do you know if there's any way to use this welder as, or convert it to spot weld?

I'd like to be able to do quick spot welding of tabs on Sub-C batteries to make my own battery packs for my Dewalt drill, but don't want to spend money on another welder. The only thing I know is that it has to be a fast high temp weld, so as not to heat up the batteries.

    Thanks.

  • @keastland Not that I know of

  • think it will be sufficient to make car parts? like braces, bumpers etc

  • @streetphase Yeah, just have to clean up the welds. It can be kinda sloppy.

  • @RCrookie1 Yeah, it would be fine for those kinda builds. The 100 stand for the amount of amperage.

  • @Johnnysshop can i run 1/8 inch rods? i have a welding class in college with mechanical engineering friggen love welding so interesting and fun...im cheap so just want a small machine but wanna still have a little variety in rods...i believe 1/8 is 90 amps around thur can this handle that for some period of time?

  • @Johnnysshop nvm its mig i thought it was stick haha sorry

  • My first welder about 25 years ago was a Lincoln, 220 volt, 200 amp, 100% duty cycle monster, it was great. Then I got a cheap SIP pocket mig about 20 years, nice little welder, hard to get parts for. I then got a $400 Century about 8 years ago, again, a nice little machine. About 4 years ago I bought one of these Harbor Freight welders for at the shop for about $100. Seems to work just as good a the Century. What a wonderful deal! Not bad with thicker metal too, who knew?

  • by the way for those who think the flux core wire is not the way to go, you can't mig weld with the gas, in windy conditions, but with flux core wire, it makes no difference, the real difference using gas, is you get a weld that requires no cleaning, unlike the flux core wire, that takes a few seconds of your time to clean the flux off.

  • No expert, but I would think the camera needs the protection of the dark lens as well as the person welding, as in most instruction manuals that come with cameras, they warn about direct sun light, as in "Pointing it at the sun"

  • @Molin525 Yeah, probably so. This was a cheap point and shoot camera at the time. My new camera has filters for this type of filming.

  • is this welder strong enough to build a trailer to haul a bobcat in?

  • @houstonfool Hmmm... Maybe but I'd get a real MIG to build something that substantial.

  • @houstonfool no man you need to get a 220 mig for that minimum i would arc it

  • @ndenn002 Thanks!

  • Whats funny about these welders is the wire is always live, I had 1 for a while and it worked fine, but when I started using more exspensive ones you dont have to worry about the wire getting close to any of your work area.

  • @raynesdanimal Good to know...

  • why do these easy mig 100s have so much spatter

  • @Techgizmo4444 They are cheap... Basically you don't have the control you would have with a true Mig with gas. Also, the included wire is pretty crappy.

  • @Techgizmo4444 Because it uses flux cored wire...which means its not actually a mig (metal inert gas)

Works kinda like a stick welder except that the welder takes care of the feed and arc length (amperage)

  • When you did your demo weld, why didnt you do the full weld in one pass? Was this due to heat and worry about warping or is there another reason like maybe the welder wasn't connecting or something? Thanks.

  • @helloman1976 Because of the heat. Warping and burn through pretty much. I'm not a real good welder either. LOL

  • Great demo Johnny!

  • You seem like a cool guy!

  • @campauchicken I just need to convince my wife I am now! LOL.. Thanks for watching.

  • @Johnnysshop You seem like youre a decent welder. Ive been welding for a year and im top in my class. Just make her something freaking sweet out of metal! :D

  • @mrjrscientist Yeah, it does the job! The only area I've noticed difficulty with is thin panels since you don't have the ability to fine tune like you would with gas.

  • i recently bought the same welder.. at the right settings it works great! I mainly use it for exhaust welding and i set the wire settings about 3 on minimum heat and it works very well as long as the area is cleaned like it should be.. got it for 100$ with 1 year warranty so if anything happens to it they will replace it no questions asked! Great welder for that price

  • @nukeman14x I'd love to try it on some exhaust work. Maybe I'll get a chance soon.

  • I think this machine is different now. it seems larger.

  • @freddytk421 Could be

  • @freddytk421 nope, cases are kept the same but his welder is missing the carry handle on top.

  • Less than 100 bucks!????

OMG I just payed like 400bucks

  • GAWD, flux core MIG is the nastiest weld on earth. Guys, do yourself a favor and go with a good MIG welder and run gas with solid wire, you will never ever look back!

  • @dieselwarriordotcom Very true but for less than 100 bucks, it will get the job done. I'm borrowing a buddies Hobart with gas. Way easier!

  • @dieselwarriordotcom Flux core can be xray quality and beautiful in appearance if you know what your doing. Mig is easier for noobs though.

  • The hat's a good tip. Also thick socks should be worn.

  • @hangoutsumtime Glad I could help!

  • my welder is a harbor freight welder but its not the easy mig, its the 90amp version. But my welder came with a built in fan so the duty cycle is better than what the easy mig has, so i can weld constant for 5 min. before the welder starts to overheat but i don't weld to constant so couple min. breaks in between welding with a fan i never over heat it. but i haven't welded very much but i learned really fast, my uncle told me a bunch of welding tricks or tips to weld.

  • @motorhead45102 Nice, wish mine had the fan!

  • @Johnnysshop yeah the fan really helps alot, keeps the giant transformer cool to keep people from melting the coating on the coils, its sometimes a nightmare when transformers go bad! Also dunno what wire your using or tips, but Lincoln electric wire is much better to use than harbor freight wire, and the lincoln contact tips look like there made a bit better. And last the nozzle gel, helps out alot with the crappy spatter of flux., well im running out of characters on the comment, lol 2 left.

  • better than a stick welder.

  • @Thetruthishere11 not really, it has a small duty cycle and is probaly only 120 amps. for $250 you can get a stick welder that can go to 250 amps, your not going to get any mig welder for less than $800 that goes to 250 amps, and most of the mig welders that are that big are 3 phase

  • Wonder how long the CMOS in that camera would last if you recorded say and hour of welding?

  • @erniedean LOL.. Not long!

  • how thick is 16 guage steel?

  • @windoes98se .060 of an inch

  • @hangoutsumtime Just went to the site. 20 times better!

  • I have that same helmet and it looks really ugly so I peeled off the stickers and now it looks much better

  • @caradetaco67 Yeah, I hate the flames too. Just haven't peeled them off yet.

  • Hey I was wondering if you thought this welder would be suitable for welding a video game cockpit together? I would be using mostly 1/2" an 1" square tubing probably 1/16" or 3/32" in thick. Thanks for the video the welder looks pretty good to learn on.

  • @scutzi128 Yeah, it should be fine for that.

  • to be honest i wish that weld came with that type of welding helment cus when i weld i want to hold the gun stedy not hold a mask and hold the gun cus ill have to keep setting the mask down to flattin out the weld a bit but great vid

  • @jeromeb619 Yeah, the thing it came with is very hard to hold while welding.

  • i just bought a 220 hardbor freight welder.how do i run 220?

  • @JohnnyDesaint Have to get a 220 outlet added in your home. Or hook it up where your washer and dryer connect to.

  • @Johnnysshop thanx man i got to run 220 to my garage .......that sucks.

  • @JohnnyDesaint Yep :(

  • Johnyshop that was an excellent review and demonstrations, That was a 10. I was thinking of buying one @ HP just for practice, It looks like it's not design for continous clean weld like miller that use gas . I have a 55 gallon drum that I want to convert for barbeque smoker , you've made me brave to start it today . Thanks for that very educational review. You should apply for a job at a community college to teach industrial class . Again Thank you and keep posting your video.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it!

  • vyruc to het , taku chujovinu a kup sebe poradnu zvaračku

  • this is great, just for the fact I was going to purchase one of these in a couple of days to fix my exhaust, for the price you can't beat it.. good for beginners too.. you can't bitch.. thanx man, keep reviewing harbor freight..

  • I appreciate it. I will! Thanks for watching.

  • Good Video !!!! Would u pls tell me what would be the thickest metal Rod that you could weld with this Mig welder ???

  • I dunno. Rod or tubing?

  • picked up the helmet and welder today now just waiting for better weather to use it.. Plan on tach welding my exhaust back together.. My buddy swears on this, said he's welded go kart frames together with it..

  • Yeah, I cannot wait for the spring. It sucks in Ohio right now!

  • Great video! Always good to see HF Reviews on here...very helpful! I used to have a HF Dual-MIG 151, with cart and a gas bottle...loved it! I sold it and upgraded to a HF Dual-MIG 171 (93793). Been using for about 6 months now and love it! On sale now for $279.99....hard to beat! Thanks again for the vid!

  • Thanks!

  • Hello johnny, great videos.

Btw, this weld Stainless Steel (inox) 304 right?

I'm thinking about buy this easymig to weld some exhaust pipes.. 2mm wall size.. do you think this does the work?

    Thankz :)

  • I've never tried it but I have a buddy that has done exhausts with no issues at all.

  • @CplNet You need to use gas i believe for stainless. Being its a mig welder it should be able to do this.

  • Not all migs run gas that a very cheapo mig welder, I dont think that model even has the fittings to run gas

  • @mortie806

Technically if you aren't running gas you aren't running MIG (Metal Inert Gas type of GMAW) The difference is that most all MIG welders can run Flux Core wire which is FCAW. In the harbor freight sense, welders that don't come with gas controls are FCA welders, not MIG welders. Which is OK, its just not a MIG machine.

  • the gas comes in the form of flux inside the wire

  • Seems like your wire feed speed might have been a tad slow. Nice vid none the less, thanks for the info.

  • Thanks! Yeah, the feed speed probably is a bit slow. I'm still learning...

  • Hey Johnny,I ended up buying myself a Millermatic 140 for myself for christmas, couldn't wait to save for a bigger welder as it would take too long(think saving for a Miller 302 trailblazer lol) I got mine for $566 including a free cart with it And I think that this one will last me awhile til I outgrow it.

  • Nice welder! Sounds like a good deal as well.

  • That machine will not run a bead on sheet metal? thanks joe

  • Yes, this is just thinner metal. Didn't want to burn through it

  • I just got one of these machines and have not used it yet. What is the thickest metal that you have ever welded with this machine?

  • 1/4 inch is the thickest I've welded with it. Supposedly you can weld thicker metal with it.

  • Badass video. I love it! I just bought one of these welders and plan to weld a patch in a rustout spot on the floor of my car. I also want to use it to weld together nails to create a metal armiture for a small sculpture! Having the ability to weld is very powerful for any sculptor in my opinion.

  • Thanks a bunch for the comments!

  • i have the same welder but made for princess auto and you can tack weld or run beads all you want and it does and amazing job, just be sure to use lincoln wire that chinese stuff they give you with the machine is not bad but the lincoln wire rules ..

  • Yep, you have to run Lincoln wire. I threw the included wire away about 5 minutes after I tried it.

  • I got mine about a month ago...Pissed cause i paid full price and the bitch went on sale 3 days later.Awesome welder if youre just getting into welding...or know what youre doing and just use it on smaller projects.Does a decent job.

  • Thanks for watching. No alum with this one...

  • Aluminum and Steel cannot be welded together, they have to be imploded together.Fe is in the transition metals group while Al is in the "other" metals group on the periodic table.

  • ok thanks, that helps a lot!!

  • what is your power supply? did you have to change anything for installation

  • No, this one is just 110v. Plugs right into the wall. Power Supply is built in the unit.

  • but what about amps and fuses?

  • Just a normal 15amp breaker. No special circuit

  • I like youre vids man.And the welder works great dont it

  • Thanks, I appreciate hearing that. It works great for what I need it for...

  • I'm just scared shitless of electrocuting myself. :|

  • I hear ya. When I was a toddler I bite through an extension cord. I still remember the shock that gave me.

  • IS MIG easier then stick? My dad just showed me how to use a stick the other day and jeez, those rods go fast. :|

  • From what I've read about welding (I'm still green to all of this), Mig wire feed is much easier!

  • god dam autofocus always making creepy sounds, but would this work too just tac weld the sides of 3/4 steel i just want to weld them together to shoot at.

  • Yeah, the autofocus is a pain in the ass. Without it, you can't see anything.

  • Thanks for posting this very helpful video. It is the same exact welder and mask I bought from HF.

Finally a welding demo from a real life welder, NOT a "I weld on submarines and know you can't weld with anything less than a $1500 welder" snob.

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad I could help.

  • ahhh I got welders flash

  • LOL

  • Noticed a little bug crawling across the floor. It survived the heat.

  • LMAO. Yeah, he did..

  • got mine for $87.00 new . they go on sale all the time..

  • Sweet!

  • No, I hope to get into it someday. Maybe I'll take some welding classes.

  • i have the same welder and it works pretty good.i used it to build a mini chopper shown on my channel

  • Sweet little chopper. Have you ridden it yet?

  • Ha, i figured that out the hard way the other day lol

  • woah. Can't really see clear, my computers screen is crap but I hope that isn't concrete you're welding on, it can explode.

  • Didn't know that.. As you can tell, I'm new to welding..

  • concrete contains water and because of the heat from the weld it can become an exploding steam bomb. Did this when I was new to welding and I could feel the whole shop floor shake. BTW, you're doing great for a beginner. Don't worry about being sloppy. I always had a great amount of respect for those who at least try to learn to do things on their own rather than just give up and pay someone to do it. Hats off to you.

  • learn something new everyday,so it's best to avoid trying to weld on a concrete floor as apposed to welding on a table that has a concrete floor? Being on the floor has a better chance of this? what actually happens when this occurs?

  • Well, the heat source (the weld) is right on or next to the concrete, and the heat from the metal you're welding also transfers to and heats up the concrete. As the water in the concrete expands from the heat of the weld, it has no where to go. Something's gotta give, so the concrete gives way and explodes just like a bomb.

  • When you weld on a table, the heat of the weld is nowhere close to the concrete, most of the heat is in the table top and nowhere near the legs of the table, which remain cold, so there is no heating of the concrete and the water in it does not contract. It's just like heating up a closed soda can until it explodes (sorry I'm bad with examples lol).

  • That makes sense. I recently built a workbench so I'll have to use that next time :)

  • I got the exact model thanks to your video. Where can I buy the Lincoln Wire at? Thanks.

  • Lowes has the lincoln wire although the one's I've seen are.035 and I'm not sure if the MIg 100 can take it(your local one probably has some .030's) and you probably get some off of ebay as well.

  • Home Depot or Lowes

  • Man I had a crack at getting one very cheap but the auction was closed early for some reason. It's used but for the price I would have paid for it would have been great to learn on(what are the odds of getting a miller mig welder for less than $100? LOL) Johnny, you've been subscribed to,thanks for those videos,if ya make more with your Harbour Freight welder I'll watch'em.

  • Thanks for the leson, i have the same unit $99.00 with free freight.

I used it a few times and it does an OK job

The power level and wire speed is what I was not sure of. thanks Jim
