  • lol who knows what kind of cool stuff could be in this place

  • how did you managed to get into this place?

  • Its been almost 40 years i think its time to open it up of least let people visit do something with it!

  • How did you get in? Only Anatolian Turks have "right" to get in Varosha. Even Turkish Cypriots can't get in.

  • this city live in my dreams. I love cyprus with all my heart and i am very sorry for all that happened back in 1974.

  • people can go inside this city? or only illegal exploration?

  • @ZwirzPL You cant go in, but you can see it from outside the gates. Only those who help to patrol there are allowed inside. A friend to my family used to patrol there some years ago. :)

  • @ZwirzPL Just turkish and un soldiers can go inside. Forbidden for civils

  • @ZwirzPL You can now. I was there this week and there were trips to famagusta. Many of them!

  • been wondering why such empty place need to be restricted for the the people to see it...

  • i am a mainland greek, i lived all my summers there, i left at age 18 in the summer of 1973,...its 2011 and i am still there...mike ,betty, sherree, bobley this is for you...

  • If Cyprus wants Varosha back, here's what must be done to break Turkey and make them get out:

1: Boot Turkey out of NATO.

2: Seal off borders and block all waterways.

3: Have any European country threaten to declare war on them unless they return all of Cyprus and fund the rebuilding project of Varosha.

  • @chaoskidd1994 dream on honey.

  • It will be returned but forget about no Turkish presence on the island. They will remain and in a higher percentage than 1974. Live with it.

  • @riverbonk You are talking about Anatolian Turks. Turkic people who lives in Cyprus for centuries (Since 1571) are Turkish Cypriots and they are different from Anatolian ones. If the peace agreement is accepted most of the Anatolian Turks will leave Cyprus. So you won't be live with "aliens" you will live with "Cypriots" again.

  • Greetings to Cyprus from Sweden!

I hope that Turkey never enters the EU.

  • I love the way the Turks consider the now delapidated ruins of Varosha as a "bargaining chip". It's not exactly proved to be a commodity, since it's been abandoned for 36 years! Giving it back to the Cypriots would be the only sensible thing to do. Reface the place and get some profit flowing back into the once flourishing holiday-makers haven. If anything, Varosha is nothing more a burden to the invaders...it's complete madness.

  • I've been here, Turkish troops every where!!

  • Just sad... Imagine what this city would be like now if this never happened. It would have defiantly gotten bigger and become more beautiful. :\ makes me quite sad.

  • i am 14 years old. i an greek and i live in athens . there isnt one time that i ve seen this video and didn cried. I WANT TO SAY 3 THINGS

1--->varosha, you who made the video i love you

2---> cyprus is greek not only in our hearts but in fact also, we will have it back

    3---> fuck you turkey

  • You could sneak in but you could be shot if you give the patrols a fright, at least deported. dont be tempted.

  • this city is good to make a zombie movie !!!

  • horrifying...

  • was there any chance to send a more professional cameraman to film this... or were this cameraman so stoned that he was tracking the invisible spidermen?

  • @raymanuva Hey, most probably this guy was nervous as fuck, if he was caught, he was dead... You have to be brave enough to get into this kind of territory risking your life...

  • He's riding on something. You can see reflections to the right 5:45.

  • Greetings to Cyprus!

  • Turkish Cypriots, and Greek Cypriots do not hate each other. They used to leave together in peace and harmony, when the turkish attacked they all ran, they weren't expecting an attack. And all the people lying saying they got its all lies. You can't get in. so many patrols of greek soldiers around their section, you can go to the watch towers and their is just a road that stops which a stop sign and a barrier. Too many UN patrols, and definteley too many turkish patrols.

  • @Mrlemidge are you retarded ? they might have leaved in peace in varosha , but the only reason turkey intervened was because greeks were attacking turks.. but yes , even if you got in , you'd probably get shot ..

  • From what I understand, certain districts of Famagusta are populated, but the district of Varosha (Maras) is still declared a forbidden zone, am I right?

It's interesting to see the delapidated buildings, and how nature has taken its toll on the surviving buildings in the ghost town. How the filmer managed to gain access is nothing short of impressive. You must have balls of steel and an iron will, mate!

Last time I was in Cyprus was 1995, lovely island. Lets hope liberation comes soon.

  • The film maker was probably a member of the Turkish military or UN personnel, they are the only ones that are allowed into the ghost town.

  • could we see inside the buildings?

podemos ver dentro de los edificios?

  • it doesnt also belongs to greeks. Varosha was a turistic place which were the most owners are foreigns(British, Francais etc.). so Turkish Cypriot people also has rights as Greek cypriots has. We are the people of this island. and we also thank to TURKEY to save our parents life in 1960-1974, because makarios will kill us!! so Turkish Cypirot community will live forever under the flag of the TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS!!

  • learn history!!!

  • Comment removed

  • well, no one says anything about living together in harmony but it's a shame that the real owners of this city lost all their belongings what they build up in years. So, at least Turkey should return what doesn't belong to them, and then, but only then we could make a new try to be reunited ! We are all humans and I believe that we are clever enough to find a fair solution!!! But it's NOT possible just to share 50:50 :-). The world should wake up and should start helping to solve our problem...

  • hey man.. if you think u r a fair judge watch this.. i cannot post this on the video as the greeks unfortunately dont want this seen.. watch how the greeks got the brits out of the island and started killing .. search cyprus 1974 and watch the clip that says RE: cyprus 1974 the truth!!

  • i stood on that beach in september 2008, took some photos although we werent supposed to, it was the spookiest feeling just standing there gazing at the emptiness.

  • Can somebody tell me why isnt the Greek army taking famagusta back? it doesnt belong to turks so send them home!

  • they cant get it from turks cause you know the power of turkish army. no one in the middle east or europe can beat them. thats why

  • perhaps, israel can

  • I just say USA.

  • LOL

  • coz its own by us ...TURKISH CYPRIOTS!! try 2 do sumthin about it and more greek blood shall be spilt

  • @PEHKOOO Its a bit more complicated, Ages and Ages ago before the Greeks were there the turks were there, then when it was greek in 1973 the turks invaded half of cyprus

  • it was ethnic cleaning before the term was used, what do you expect people to do if Turkey's army is on the doors of the city with no protection and under constant bombing......

  • No the turkish don't need to be ashamed, what else were they supposed to do?? Its always the innocent who get hurt and its not like they demolished the city with everyone's belongings while they were still in it, which they could have. The people fled, and some were turkish. But as for the cars in showrooms etc, I heard turkish soldiers sold everything second hand!

  • by the way not all the famagusta is ghost town!! without Turkey help in 1974 there wasnt going to be a one single turkish cypriot left in in cyprus.!! all was going to be dead by greece and EOKA love from northern cyprus

  • so wait is there anything wrong with this city? is there like something wrong with it like Chernobyl?

  • It used to be a warzone.

  • how did you get in their? u must of crossed from the turkish side cuz on the greek side it would be impossible to even make it to the first building

  • It is also impossible to get in their cuz soldiers security and barriers makes it impossible..

  • How did you get in, with a car none the less? Is there like a way you can sneak in?

  • I was 10 years old when we left this then beautiful city, I wish I could go back and find my house just for closure, it breaks my heart to see it like this,

  • @skateboy333111222 dont cry!! we will have it back once again

  • @skateboy333111222 you are 46 and your youtube name is skateboy?

  • @skateboy333111222 but then you're not 27 years old, are you? (This would mean that you left the city in year 2009 (year you posted your comment) - 25 (your age in 2009) +10 (when you left Varosha) = 1994? I think this would be 20 years too early...

  • @skateboy333111222 How can you have left this town when you were 10? Considering just now you are supposedely 28 years old according to your profile, and the inhabitants left in 1974?

  • @celticonor92 - Duh.... because people don't usually put their REAL birth dates when signing up for online sites. Anyone who does is a fool. My profile, before I took it down, said that I was 100 years old and that was about 4 years ago. Do you believe THAT?! It's just being safe online just in case one's page is hacked. My Facebook acct, Myspace, newspaper, music and writing sites never have the same birthdates or personal details.

  • I have made a little film called Ghost Town of Famagusta on You Tube, I was told not to even point my camera at the military, how you managed to get in is so fascinating, I would love to go back and go inside one day. My film is from the areas you can witness from the barriers. I wish the true residents could go home after all these years of hostility!

  • really hate wat the turks did . am from scotland and my papa has been it the town wen he was a young man and i think that the city should be opend back up as a greek town .

i pray that this lovley town will be opend up one day

  • Im living in Cyprus not far from there, a town called Vrysoulles on the greek side. Is there a way you can get in?? looks like Chernobyl, would love to go in there.

  • even nobody answered this question.where were the greece army in 1974?why they left greek cypriots alone against turkey? the strange thing is they still talks!

  • They left greek cypriots alone because Greece at that time was under a military dictatorship (1967-1974) helped by the americans, it was obeying their orders. Greek ships and planes were ready to go fight but the order was never given. The Dictators were overthrown because of the "Atilla I" invasion on July 20, 1974, the "lawful" politician (haha!) Karamanlis returned and 3 weeks after "Atilla II" Turkish invasion occured! He was with the americans too, you see....

  • a question ? some greeks say that there are 140000 settlers in north and must be thrown away..what about the south after 1974 nobody moved from greece? also in 34 years 2 generations borned.who are these new children cypriot or turkish? i have lots of friends married with a cypriot and they have kid now..what do you think about that?

  • they must remain in Cyprus.

  • What a waste of a beautiful town. When will we ever learn that war and hatred only bring misery to everybody. For those who incited and caused the '74 invasion, hang your heads in shame.

  • you d better lough to america and ask them what are they doing in afghanistan and iraq even no american citizen is living there..what about israel ? i havent seen any comment about what is israel doing ?nobody says israel should be shamed?

  • we do,but then again we are talking about cyprus not iraq or afghanistan

  • they need them because our special forces are always in there

  • My father is from Varoshia.

    Since 1974 we are refugees.

    We will return one day.

  • My father is from Ammoxostos...

    Now we are refugees.

    We will return one day.

  • nothing left inside the varosha...only empty old damaaged buildings....there are 40 years old big rats inside..i got a chance to see inside 10 years ago...if you want to return to the 1974 ..you have to be there... also famagusta is still in 70 s ...time stopped there 38 years ago ..the open part of varosha is still interesting ..nothing changed after the war

  • what a shame... Bloody turks.

  • I've actually been there. We had some friends in the consulate. It was illegal of course, and they didn't allowed to take any photos or film. Curious though

  • have you actually walked around inside? how big is the city, are most of the things still as they were in 1974? i visited this place the other year but didnt know much about it until did further research, didnt see much of it either.

  • How the hell did you get in? were there no turkish guards around when you went normally there is loads. Please tell me your secerate!!!

  • the turks open the borders you have to show them your passport and pay to get in i would never pay to be be able to go to what is mine my home, Varosha you also need to get insurance to drive a car it is called to psefto kratos

  • How did you get in ??

  • he didnt get in there. it must be someone from turkish army who filmed it and sold it to him. hopefully there will be peace one day. but as long as greek cypriots things that they own all the cyprus and they dont want equal rights with turkish cypriots there will be never peace!! north cyprus goverment asked greek cypriot goverment to remove the ambargos over north cyprus but greek cypriots refused it!! so you are not getting back the part of famagusta which is (ghost town).

  • Exactly!! Love From North Cyprus!!

    We have to be EQUAL!!!

  • If I recall correctly, the Turks invaded. Why should the Greeks give in?

  • you are absolutely correct, thanks Dude :-)

  • SORRY... equal rights ??? how does this work out ?, if on one site are 1000 people, and on the other site are only 100 people, how the fk. can you think about EQUAL RIGHTS. What you are saying does not work anywhere in the world. Good Morning :-)

  • in my country 1million british whilst half million profess to be irish but all have equal rights we also have many walls dividing our city thats belfast by the way

  • hey man.. if you think u r a fair judge watch this.. i cannot post this on the video as the greeks unfortunately dont want this seen.. watch how the greeks got the brits out of the island and started killing .. search cyprus 1974 and watch the clip that says RE: cyprus 1974 the truth!!

  • This is a very interesting place, but how did you get in?? When we went it seemed to be guarded from all angles!! You could climb up towers and look through binoculars, but could'nt see thet much though. Is it true that cars are still in the showrooms and washing on the lines?
