Well, upon seeing Confessions of A Teen Idol, he now admits to his mistakes and errors in life. As you look back then, he seem more egotistical, but when I was watching the show on VH1, you saw a caring person to his family. He knew he was a flawed human being back in the 80s. He realized that he wasn't perfect and by turning down the lead role in Footloose, he realize the mistake he did. Right now, he sees the bigger picture instead. He was addicted to drugs, but recovered later from rehab.

When Christopher Atkins interrupts Brooke the 2nd time, you could tell Brooke is not the type of girl to be cut off like a second fiddler. Brooke doesn't seem like the type to be dominated by a man. Brooke has that expression to Atkins like "I've been in this business longer than you and you have no right to cut me off two or three times during my interview"...
