  • I am a teenage girl, but I know for a fact that I am going to join the US Military. I want to join the Marines but as much as I am thankful for it, I am not interested in sitting behind desks or working on food prep. I want to be there. I want to be in the action. My true desire is to be medically involved as well, but like I said, I am not interested in sitting in back. I want- no- I need to be there beside the men and be there to help. I am lost on how to get to that position though, someone,

  • @shiguy12 If you want to be a medic (Army) or Corpsman (Marines/Navy) you will need to join the Army or Navy. The Marines utilizes Navy Corpsman for our medical services. If you want to do anything else like work on aircraft or operate trucks/machinery or even be an MP or Combat Engineer you can be guaranteed those jobs by a Marine Recruiter. We have a large pool of jobs outside of clerical positions for women and most of those jobs are guaranteed (with minimum standards) whan you sign up.

  • @shiguy12 I share ur passion. I need to be with them, out there, fighting.

from one teenage girl to another

  • I also love how female Marines are held to the same standards as male marines

  • @Thunderscatshoo Your forgetting the Physical Fitness test portion hoss. 20 pullups vs 70 sec flex arm hang? Yet we get paid the same and girls expect equality in everything.

  • @saophen I know I was being sarcastic. I want to hear a female opinion on it, I will say the only time I would expect it to be different is if they are prego.

  • ha if we knew all of that before you joined no one would do it!!!

  • I want to become a Marine but first I have to lose weight. I was told that a recruiter would help me lose the weight but when I called I was told to lose the weight then come in and talk to someone...What do I do now?

  • @alexysbj091 recruiters are not allowed to give PT advice to non-Marines that are not simply trying to improve their PFT score. If a Marine gives PT advice to a civilian and that civilian injures him/herself the Marines can be held lible. We have had people lose nearly 100 lbs on their own then go to the recruiter.

  • @MidwestMarines Thank you! I will work hard to lose the weight.

  • "we were all nasty..equally" XD haha

  • are you allowed to have dreads in your hair when your in the marines?

  • @09jprincess Dreadlocks would not be authorized. It would be considered "eccentric/faddish" grooming. According to our uniform regulations, "eccentric and faddish individual appearances detract from uniformity and team identity. Because it is impossible to provide examples of every acceptable or unacceptable style of 'conservative' or 'eccentric/faddish' grooming and attire, the good judgment of Marines at all levels is key."

  • HOORAH! to the ladies in green!

  • @guns4good *OORAH

  • if you want the world to look up unto you and if you want to see the world, looking for challenge, confidence and be able to stand on your own feet, something that you can be proud forever serving the country with dignity honor and valor join in the Marines

  • This has crossed my mind a million times and is really the only reason I have held myself back from going to the marines. Ladies and gents I know it must be awkward but are you excused to the bathroom more often when your crimson week happens. I hate mine and have been at the verge of thinking about getting them taken out so I can just join and not have a problem with it.

  • @GALzMissYoungsta Your health and hygiene are very important, expecially in boot camp. You will be afforded every opportunity to take care of yourself. You will also be surrounded by other women going through the same things you are. Many women also don't even encounter that issue during boot camp due to stress. Finally, after boot camp you are a normal person with a normal life and will be able to take care of yourself just as you do now.

  • @MidwestMarines Thank you so much. For the past month I've started getting my body fit again. Believe me I must be in the worst shape but I'm trying to get back on my feet. You, my ladies encourage me to be a marine. I feel like to myself I'd finally feel an accomplishment at something I've wanted, not of what my parents have to say. Of course I'm gonna be scared to death since I've never spent time away from family. But this will push me to be a real, independent woman. Again thank you.

  • @MidwestMarines Would you call it a normal life?

  • wow I love you Captain Kays =D

I wish you were my company commander at Camp Pendleton back in the late '90s

    (yeah I know she's a JAG)

  • perez is the only pretty one, but respect for all

  • @aliyahrae14 Why was that even relevant?

  • Jw, do you get to shower before the Marine Corps picture? And how often does one get to visit the recruit px?

Also, if you have naturally wavy hair would it be best to keep it short or wear it in a bun? And do you have a special way of putting your hair in a bun or do you just through it up? Are you allowed to wear bobby-pins? So many questions! haha

  • @MrsLaLaLaGirl23 You "shower" every night. PX runs are scheduled weekly, but we only hit it up once or twice a month. Hair is up to you. Some wear it short so you dont need to put it up. Others put it in a bun. You will learn how to put it in a tight bun low on the head so you can wear your service cover. It is a little different for the helmet. Yes you can wear bobby-pins.

  • CWO Holt is freakin moto. you can tell. badass. Capt Kay is just hot. hell they are all attractive in a devildoggish sort of way. you all keep rocking and taking care of your juniors and whooping ass.

  • In bootcamp you get about 90 second showers... washing your hair isn't often til they send short haired females to the hair dresser.... and you will crawl through the mud and stink like all hell and you will not be able to shave anything til the last week! Semper Fi and good luck to all females who join! Enjoy those yellow foot prints :D Keep your head up is the best advice!!

  • Once a week if you're lucky and have a nice Senior Drill Instructor. Some girls only get to wash it once a month, or not at all till the end.

  • Just how often do you get to shower in boot camp? My hair gets really gross if I don't wash it every day. I know, I know, that sounds girly but it's true.

  • @StrangeShipper I am wondering the same question, honestly. D:

My hair gets really nasty, but I've got shorter hair. Dx

  • @StrangeShipper

You can't be denied a shower, but it's only a couple of seconds everyday. As for washing your hair, I think that depends on your SDI. My platoon was allowed to do so once a week.
