  • I am a pianist learning bass guitar for first time. what is a good video to start with?

  • very nice bass guitar. what's that?

  • höhö... 3 1 2 3 :D little mistake but not bad;-). very nice exercise. I use it really often ;-)

  • My fingers will not cooperate ._.

  • Nice this is very helpfull!

  • What's the mark of the bass?

  • UHM Y ARE THER TWO 3241's

  • @sclongboarder15 it should be 3 2 1 4

  • where are the first basic videos? I never knew about the first (1234) exercise! HELP!

  • @TheJomarie88

it's what everybody knows.. it's just like making 1 2 3 4 on each fret of each string.. that's the basic exercise for fingers, even in guitars..

  • There's something wrong with 5 of the combs. Wanna play a game?

    Spot out - which :D

  • thanks!

  • excellent lesson!

  • Great idea....thank's, I'm on it...

  • its called the spider walk techniqe

  • gok Wang plays bass? 0.o

  • Me Gusta...

  • @rosydonut la musica de rock :D

  • i want your bass guitar.

  • whats he tune to?? standard with a low B on top or a high b

  • Wow. My husband got me an electric bass for Christmas this year. I'm so excited to start learning. I've played upright bass a few times. The positioning of the left hand is giving me problems on electric. My wrist is sore. Any suggestions?

  • @kpas: This is something I had to deal with when I started learning bass. It's a matter of adjustment. Proper positioning means 1 finger per fret, but for an untrained hand, you'll feel the strain really quickly. It's just a matter of sticking with it, the more you practice, the stronger your hand and fingers become. Try playing a major scale higher up the neck, your wrist will be less strained. Once you get more comfortable, start playing lower down the neck (like C major, 3rd fret A string).

  • @kpas Something worth trying, too, is having a replacement wrist installed if yours is sore. I always carry a spare wrist in my gig bag just incase, you know?

    Hope this helps :)

  • The ads on youtube suck an its so slow it took me 2 minutes to start the damn video! an it skips

  • To me the 3142 is the most strenuous. I can feel those tendons (or something!) snap when reaching #3 onto the next string. Very good exercise. Thank you!

  • oo i never thought about doing that cross string thing. ive just been practicing on one string. thanks for the adivce

  • thanks for the vid, it helped.

  • damn...thats good ! finally espertvillage made good helpfull bass video :D

  • There's an error on the first two sets of the 3rd column. It should be 3124 and 3142. You repeated the 3's. Great exercise though, very helpful. Thanks.

  • great video.

  • Holy crap ur da bass MASTA!!!!......bater

  • cool video

  • Can you make a video on how to actually strum and play. i'm having trouble because I keep twanging some strings. Idk if it's me or the guitar or what I should do.

  • That's fantastic.. great exercises. I'm going to start doing them today.

  • yeah tht notes will create a village

  • 0.51 - that's mind-blowing

  • something you can get out of most fitness books... that third finger again. I realize that many use their third finger, but coming from a contrabass background the third finger is never used until you get to the higher registers (say 12th fret and beyond). I have found that using the 3rd and 4th finger as a single unit (even on the electric), has done little to limit my bass playing. Just my opinion, intonation is better if you don't use the third finger to fret (helps to hold down string)

  • Getting my bass either tomorrow or the next day. This looks like a great lesson to practice everyday.

  • ill be able to play lines much more faster??

  • sir.. ibanez gsr 200ex play good?

  • 1234 2134 3124 4123

    1243 2143 3142 4132

    1324 2314 3214 4213

    1342 2341 3241 4231

    1423 2413 3412 4312

    1432 2431 3421 4321

    correct me if i'm wrong

  • Thanks for the upload, my practice sessions were getting kinda stale.

  • Why....

  • Cheers bro, keep it up!

  • my pinky doesn't respond. Do you think i should cut it?

  • @TiMickQC

    hahahahaha hilarious :D

  • @TiMickQC Actually, I just made a comment. Having come from a contrabass background, it is the third finger that is not necessary in getting the proper fretting. I normally use 1, 2 and 4 as my fretting fingers. It is a matter of strengthening the pinky. Watch most jazz bassist and you will only see the use the third finger as the high registers.

  • @TiMickQC LOL, just practice my friend!

    it will come alive!!

  • @TiMickQC HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

  • @TiMickQC Sadly yes. It's a well known fact that if it doesn't respond, it's best thing is just to destroy it.

    Hope this helps :)

  • @TiMickQC nowones reallyy does

  • @TiMickQC I wanted to cut my pinky off for years but it's o.k., just practice, it WILL get better. It's still a pain in the ass for me sometimes but I can do alot more with it. Just play, til it hurts.

  • Thanks for the help man!

    5/5

  • thats a bit wrong.... there are a few more optiions for combining fingering there!!!

  • and 3241 repeats - __-" so silly...

  • pro vid deff helped me alot

  • nice bass

  • Thank you XD

  • Awesome. Thanks.

  • good stuff

  • thanks 4 share bro,,

    Thanks alot! :D

  • wow, probably the only good video out of like 400,000 that expert village have

  • i caused miself pain while trying this. lolz

  • if your hand starts to hurt stop playing.

  • i got better since the first time i tried this. just had to get used to it.

  • same at 3123

3132, the errors sound good though

  • does no one notice how in the second column the last 2 combinatiions are

    2412

    2421

    ...wtf?

  • @vermilion243 You're right, it should be 2413 and 2431.

  • thats really cool,,,,can you please show me how to start with the basic scale?1234?????

  • Fingering exercises. LOL get it?

  • Absolutely Brilliant Practice! Thank you...

  • i see what you're doin it's like a tongue twister for your left hand so u dont keep to the same old shapes and patterns

  • im gonna give it a try. good technique

  • cool lesson...check out my approach. Its designed to get you moving up-down the fretboard musically, lessons posted on my page... Cheers.

  • that's cool, thank you !!

  • I have a 5 string Ibanez and I don't read music. I'm trying to understand what you are doing. I know that the number tells you what finger to use but how do you know what sting and what fret?

  • you don't you use the 4 fingers everywhere, like you can be up at the 17's and do the 2134 cuz it isn't telling you wwhere, but which finger order u use for the 4 frets ur onlike it could be on any frets like 16 15 17 18 or 3 2 4 5 and you can mix anything up like string order and stuff

  • another perfect video ;-)

  • I enjoy this, It is an exercise I never thought of but I will surely try it out. And btw don't listen to these idiots, they obviously just had their parents buy them a first act bass so they think they know everything

  • I didn't know Dean Cain, aka superman, played bass !

  • This is awesome

  • Play with a pick and you are a dick!

  • Shit, did I say that?. Well I must have meant it, I was just taking the piss lidesnowighwif....whatever your name is.

  • Talking the piss? I don't know what that means but it sound like the fastest way to make people stop listening to you.

  • "TAKING the piss"

And your right, its basically used as a way to stop people taking what your saying too seriously.

Good guess. And I am not being sarcastic this time round.

  • A real bass player uses both ;)

  • Just kidding!!!

  • Yeah, the bass player for the Foo Fighters is laughing at you all the way to the proverbial bank. As well as a great number of other famous bass players. I think I'll keep my mind open to ALL options. Since both generate music....and cash. But you can stick with your "there's only one way to play a bass" mentality. What about guys like Victor Wooten who do a lot of tapping?.....Oh, I forgot, that must be out too? Good luck to ya.

  • Take it Easy man !

  • why do you have to bash beginners just because the need to do finger exercises. it doesn't mean he's against tapping he's just a teacher.

  • Hey, just wanna make u come to this video and see what wonderful responses u got on ur joke - i had a hard laugh, so i hope ull have it too

  • I cant even remember what I said it must have been funny and involved laughing at finger style / tapping fanboys.

  • ur name is true!

  • lol? i dont get it now...

  • Try applying the permutations to scale tones, then you'll come up with more musical patterns.

  • are there any vids or web tat teaches people..to read tabs n strings for free..??

    (like c majors n all..)

cos i am self learning bass..

    pls tell me..ty

  • Yeah there are many videos on YouTube, I am sure you will find what you are looking for here.

  • great lesson...

  • in the 24 combos of 4 sheet. he made a mistake on 2 of them. in the "2" row the last 2 should have 3's instead of 2.

  • good job smartass

  • its called attention to details.

  • i call it showing off

  • how is it showing off? if i was that damn good i wouldnt be on this link obviously.

  • nvr mind...im sorry i sed tht...i was in a really bad mood. cudnt stand anything negative.peace

  • hi. I am bassoon player, but I play bass guit in band. I used my professional knolege, but I would like you to suggest me some book with scales (but not only tabs...i need sheet...like classical music system). There is a lot about bass that I don't know, but I want to learn!

    Thank you, in advanced!

  • knolege? lol

u might be advanced in music but you might want to take a refresher in fourth grade spelling

  • Great.. effective and Simple !

  • FKN Awesome !!! Thanks man!

  • to me, the best beginning excercise is just playing songs that you like and are able to do, you'll progress without even knowing it

  • Yea, now more basic fingering exercizes.

  • Nice one dude...you have a good pedagogy in you teaching. Keep up the good work.

  • This was helpful and I can already play a little faster but I have one inquiry dude.

Why are there a pair of 3241's in the third combo set?

Is one of them supposed to be 3124 or what?

Or is there a specific reason that is unknown to me?

  • Awesome, sure beats the old 1234. Thanks!

  • damned teeny pinky....always hits the wrong string and makes this ugly noise.

  • call me a retard, but I can't follow this

  • very helpful, nice exercise

  • I just started and i try to do the 1234 but i always misfire and get a string buzz

  • I am trying to understand the order that he has numbered. I wish the video showed a closer view of his fingers, I should see if I can connect my laptop to my 50" plasma.
